I'm 19 and watching the dead end hip hop videos have totally changed my perspective of hip hop/rap in a good way. And I thank you guys. But sadly my generation is full of stubborn teenagers who won't give old school rappers a chance. Our generation is smart when it comes to technology but ignorant when it comes to morals, respect and honor
@mikesbruv Appreciate that man...I don't think ppl realize how complicated it can be trying to capture as many key moments as possible into these 15 to 20 min segments...There's SO much great footage to go through! I see you comment all the time, thanks for being such a loyal follower of the show.
the content is complex but he delivers it in a real simple boom bap type of way...genius.his metaphors are all clever but easy to grasp..hes a master of walkin that line
Just gotta give props to modest media's camera work, even though everyone gets well passionate (apart from beezy, he seems pretty laid back), these vids are edited really well, nice
@yugang08 Yes, I heard Comeback Season only because I thought So Far Gone was so bad that I had to be missing something. While Comeback Season was better, I still didn't think it was amazing. The convo was about Drake now. And, yes, I think Drake is wack. What's bizarre is people acting like I'm the first person to say Drake can't rap.
I completely agree with the comment about stoupe. Stoupe was what made JMT great, and when Vinnie was Ikon they had a unique style. BUT Times have changed.
The 1 thing that always angers me about people who hate drake ( not sayin im a drake fan) is the fact that HES NOT TRYNA BE HARD thats the reason i respect him cuz hes litettlry when you think about it this generation LL COOL Jay
C Town food explanation is one of the best I have heard. I always tell my peers to get on the internet and SEARCH for new music, they will most likely find someone they enjoy more than their current favorite rapper. Nas used to be my favorite MC, but then his consistency was lacking and I discovered MF DOOM who with his obscurity and lack of bad album over took Nas. I would not be surprised if I find someone in the future who I like more than DOOM, the constant digging is always fruitful.
One thing you guys don't mention is the complete change of the music industry. The rappers that don't have a lot to say just rap about their surroundings. A writer writes what he knows. A rapper raps what he knows. The hip hop industry is vastly different from what it was in the 90s. They weren't flying private jets and popping a molly in the 90s.
There's three reviews you guys just have to do. Domo Genesis - Under The Influence, Casey Veggies - Sleeping In Class (Deluxe Edition) and Das Racist - Relax.
I think it boils down to the younger generation wanting to fit in with their peers. I can't see the incentive for them to dig through old school hip hop when they have no one to share it with.
i agree on you about when drake is trying to be hard or when he talk about shit that doesnt really relate to him but when he talks about his family, life, past experience ect. thats when hes good or great to me
Feefo had an amazing point about simplicity, it has its place. When im gettin pumped for a football game i aint gonna be listenn 2 no complicated deep shit, i listen 2 flocka! When i want a laugh nd some corny fun lines i listen to wayne. When i want sum left feild shield shit i got tyler. We hav a place 4 everything
@sdofik LOL, i think you may be referring to me, the camera man(Rod aka Modest Media)....i'm always laughing dude, i cant help it. Producing this show is so much fun. Thanks for watching and subscribing man!
You guys NEED to listen to the group Rhyme Asylum if you love underground hip hop...I would love to see a video on you guys talking about them....they will blow your mind
I agree with C-Town on alot of what he says and I'm a college kid, but to say drake cant spit is bizarre especially when he's old shit with LB and 9th wonder was hella dope, Think Good Thoughts is such a dope track.
It's just that compared to their work with stoupe it looks weak (production wise). There is a major step down when you go from heavy metal kings an I against I to When Crows Descend Upon You. The production on violent by design is perfection. When you go from production perfection to good it looks like a major step down. Also, I love the cold vein. I call it the greatest of all time.
@mykectown You know, I wanna know what your opinion is on a rapper named Wax. He started off (kinda) like a UA-cam rapper and now he just recently signed to Def Jam. Anyways I think you should check him out. His channel is waxandherbalt. Sift through it cuz he's got a lot of different material.
There are so many young kids I met who WANT to learn about the hiphop outside of your j coles, kendricks. I would love to get a spot like this to have a great convo
True. But then again he's a little more creative than mainstream rappers. I actually want to see Dead End Hip Hop review some old classics, maybe Violent by Design could be throw into that list.
IT ALL COMES DOWN TO THIS: YOU LISTEN TO THE MUSIC TO YOU GOT INTRODUCE TO THAT IS RELEVANT AT THE MOMENT, DEPENDING IN WHAT GENERATION WAS THAT IS. SINSE YOU A LITTLE KID TO A TEENAGER. WHEN YOU GET OLDER YOUR STILL ATTACHED TO IT. AND THAT WOULD CHANGE IN EVERY GENERATION , EVEN THE YOUNG CATS THIS DAYS. IS A CIRCLE THAT NEVER ENDS. IS LIFE...YOU JUST NEED TO SEE THE PSICOLOGY BEHIND IT. AND IM NO PSIC JUST LOVE MUSIC.
@Eziokilla9595 It's not their best I agree, but Ive never heard them review Jedi Mind Tricks. I'm sure Feefo would say Violence Begets Violence would bump in the whip. I'd actually really want to see a review for Violent By Design or Servants in Heaven, Kings in Hell, but they never do classic/old albums. They should start though.
I was feeling Drake when he made that "Comeback Season" mixtape, but when he dropped "Thank Me Later" on Cash Money I was disappointed. To no surprise when Drake went mainstream his lyrics got little watered down as well.
Balance is the only thing thats missing. I understand why Gucci, Audemar riches is famous todays day but there has to be a balance in order for people to understand why hip hop is hip hop. Too much of one thing isn't good. I know all music can't be different but simple all the time isn't good neither is lyrical all the time. But thats my opinion. Love how many different points of view you guys have its intriguing to hear everyone voice there own opinion.
@mykectown I agree with you that Drake isn't lyrical but you have to admit he is a great song writer. It is hard to explain but the way he structures his songs are amazing. When I listen to Drake, I get everything he is saying the first time I listen to it. And that is fine. When I want to listen to cold lyricists, I listen to Jay, Lupe, Nas, J. Cole, Black Thought. But I feel like hip hop just needs a balance. For every Drake, we get a J.Cole.
drake i so honest though he isn't a deep thinking lyricist but he tells it like it is and lays out his feelings that people can relate to no one else does that
You guys talk alot about music that bangs, I'd be real interested to hear your opinion on Jedi Mind Tricks new album Violence Begets Violence, which not only bangs but has complex concepts and lyricism.
its not about the golden era or this new school hiphop..its about GOOD HIPHOP and SKILLS..if you take Rakim Acapella's and u do a remix with a good Southern beat..the track still would sound dope
ok, uhm. by bangs i meant, heavy bass, aggressive music, which it is. I didnt say the album was mind blowing or monumental, I just said it has complex lyricism. Not the most complex. just lyrical. And dope profile picture, The Cold Vein is classic
what's your opinion on whether a mc uses a pen/pad or rapping off the top of their head? is it cause they found their "style" or is it to show off their abilities. i brought it up because i think many rappers would be better if they quite the bullshit and actually take time to write. to apply it to a current rapper for example when Wiz stopped writing i think his lyrical ability went to shit.
@mykectown (cont.) in a more balanced radio world, guys like Drake would probably have a few songs you would consider listenable. Not that he's ill. I just give him brownie points for being semi original in his approach and being as honest with his rhymes as he could possibly be for someone at his level. For the record, your comments are the ones that stood out to me because I know EXACTLY where your coming from when it comes to most of this shit out.
@mykectown now i know as well as you do that black thought is LIGHT YEARS ahead of drake lyrically but that probably wont mean shit to him cause i get the feeling he never really bumped a roots album in his life. Also, gotta huge props for bringing up lines from 75 bars, probably one of the best example of a dope rap record w/ each line ending w/ the word nigga haha
@mykectown no. I completely feel where u're coming from. My bad for coming off on some "you should like Drake" shit. My 1st response (overreaction?) was more towards what seemed like a very angry rebuke of what I consider a relatively harmless artist when it comes to offending one's intelligence. In that regard, he and Waka don't compare IMO. If someone likes Waka, I prejudge them with nothing else to go on lol. I don't necessarily do that with Drake. For me, there's a delineation btwn the two.
My bad**using my phone to write this comment, it keeps posting before I write out my complete opinion,. But going back to what i said, in my opinion the reason why I think the younger generation doesn't respect the older generation is because, they yet to mature and understand everything from hip hop to everything around them, for example, in one of the other DEHH videos, I think it might of been Mike C said that, you give a teenager start of there teen to late teen-who
rich kid because its what they see and hear. Using that as an example, and going to what mikes 2 younger cousins are saying, the younger generation yet to understand and appreciate the music that mike or kings, beezy, feefoo older type of hip hop(hope this makes sense lol , it sucks writing out a comment on a IPhone)
@Eziokilla9595 I agree, he definitely needs to tone that down. And I can't say that I don't prefer his voice on VBD and The Psycho-Social LP. I miss his mystical verses when he was Ikon.
Everyone else is talking about Drake, I'll give my two cents. I like his music because it sounds good, and (usually) I can listen to it and just relax. He (for the most part) does not have good lyrical content, but I think that a lot of it sounds good, and that's good enough for me. My biggest problem with his music is when he shows up on some terrible made-for-radio track (Pop That, Love Me, etc.). I think most of the solo stuff is fine.
@GamingBender Why is it such a big deal that I don't like Drake? I don't get it. I'm not telling anyone not to listen to him. I've heard enough Drake to know I'm not a fan of his style, his lyrics or his delivery. If other people like him, then that's great. A lot of people hate my favorite rappers and that's fine.
@qlatrell So Roots is backpack hip hop, too? OK, I give up. You people and your labels. Haha! Anyway, no, saying "Drake can't rap" isn't simply a blanket statement...it's an opinion. I clearly said in the video I don't care about his content. I simply don't like his style, flow or rhymes. It's not that deep! He doesn't have to be conscious. He can talk about ant hills all day. Just do it well. Why are people so concerned with me not liking Drake? This is so weird.
The industry pushes simple, catchy, and nightclub-friendly rap because its accessible and easy to digest like fast food (to carry on C-Town's food analogy). Its much easier to market and sell than "healthier" complex rap which makes u think more than "feel" and requires more effort to listen to. Money is influencing too much of what the youth hears. We need more diversity. We need a more balanced hip hop diet.
@mykectown me personally, sure myke, i like and appreciate your insight on hip hop & rap artists but that doesnt mean u & me gotta agree on everything nor does it mean we gotta like the same things. I, unlike some folks here, respect everything u say even if i dont agree. Well thats all i gotta say. My apologies in advance if u found my rambling of 4 comments to be completely un-necessary lol
Feefo is so right. There is a place in hip hop for everything. Everyone has different opinions. Do not try to change peoples opinions. Listen to what the fuck you wanna listen to. Just because you like hip hop doesnt mean you have to be a hardcore hip hop nerd and listen to all sorts of crazy shit. You listen to what you want. If you wanna be a hardcore fan then listen to all sorts of shit. If you wanna be a casual fan, listen to casual stuff. Theres a place for everything
Drake's rapping = children's books Biggie and Tupac = Shakespeare he he This video enlightened me. I finally realize wtf is the deal with Drake. Stand back I'm about to pull some Aristotle shit. Both sides in the video agreed Drake's music is simple. Therefore, Drake = children's books (they have simple writing and people can enjoy some of those stories for some fucking reason I don't understand) but don't no English teacher or even a person with a brain is going to argue that those children's books are better literature than Shakespeare, Charles Dickens, Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, or Homer. So when people say Drake is the best rapper, they're pretty much saying that children's books are better than Dickens or Hemingway (these would be Tupac, Biggie, and other greats which are not lil wayne) just because they enjoyed the story in the children's books more. I don't know why people aren't honest in music like in literature. People study Shakespeare and other great literature for the quality of the writing so they can improve they're own writing skills. However, they're favorite story is going to be the one that they enjoyed the most which happens, in this case, to be a children's book. If you feel that I insulted Drake, then I hope that it makes you feel better that I actually went easy on him this time.
+FallenX100 Not even close to Aristotle, not even stoic, however I agree completely. It's like the cinema these days as well. People say the Avengers is amazing while I'm sitting back watching Lawrence of Arabia.
drake does goes in on some level. ever since he been down with young money he watered down a bit but he still kills it. he's not a lyricist though but he aint a garbage rapper. good video
@ORDERnPROGRESS Thank God there is another person who agrees with me. I agree, MC's change over time. Em, Nas, Ice Cube, Jay-Z, and Xzibit are all overshadowed by their earlier/classic work. I'm also not taking issue with Canibus's early shit, like Rip the Jacker, but if you compare Melatonin Magik to Lyrical Law, I wouldn't be able to tell them apart. I agree, when Vinnie is on, he is FUCKING ON. But, more times than not, nowadays his music blends together. BTW, do you know who Vakill is?
I'm 19 and watching the dead end hip hop videos have totally changed my perspective of hip hop/rap in a good way. And I thank you guys. But sadly my generation is full of stubborn teenagers who won't give old school rappers a chance. Nah
"i learned how music back then actually had a message" my god
The young generation would only bash the old folks that are stuck on 90's album and say modern music aint what it used to be.
@mikesbruv Appreciate that man...I don't think ppl realize how complicated it can be trying to capture as many key moments as possible into these 15 to 20 min segments...There's SO much great footage to go through! I see you comment all the time, thanks for being such a loyal follower of the show.
Plato's allegory of the cave being applied to people thinking Drake has dope rhymes haha..
Man, I REALLY wish that I was in this room. In this conversation. C Town makes the most sense to me.
the content is complex but he delivers it in a real simple boom bap type of way...genius.his metaphors are all clever but easy to grasp..hes a master of walkin that line

this video literally explains why i dont really get along with kids my age....

8:30-8:37 the defintion of hip hop and probably music in general!
And the comeback season Mixtape . Elzhi ,Phonte, and 9th wonder all approved
I think it boils down to the younger generation wanting to fit in with their peers. I can't see the incentive for them to dig through old school hip hop when they have no one to share it with.

Can someone tell me what the name of the track in the first twenty seconds of the video is? I feel like a chump because I have no idea.
You guys NEED to listen to the group Rhyme Asylum if you love underground hip hop...I would love to see a video on you guys talking about them....they will blow your mind
i wish i had a bunch of ppl to talk to like this and especially C Town
make sure to review the new blackalicious when it comes out plz
yall should have your own tv show
Damn the series went through a whole movie. Note credits playing at the end.
I agree with C-Town on alot of what he says and I'm a college kid, but to say drake cant spit is bizarre especially when he's old shit with LB and 9th wonder was hella dope, Think Good Thoughts is such a dope track.
THIS HAS BEEN A FUCKING GREAT SERIES
btw are you guys watching casino in the background?! :D

I think feefo was trying to say that the tempos and drum loops are different bringing out different rhyme schemes that are not as raw.

Casino in the background. sick movie
An argument that will never cease.....
@Bellcasus The artist are Kid and Play,I think
This is the "Great Debate"
IT ALL COMES DOWN TO THIS:
YOU LISTEN TO THE MUSIC TO YOU GOT INTRODUCE TO THAT IS RELEVANT AT THE MOMENT, DEPENDING IN WHAT GENERATION WAS THAT IS.
@spcw4 I asked the same question. Cats get upset when you don't care for their idols.
@Eziokilla9595 It's not their best I agree, but Ive never heard them review Jedi Mind Tricks. I'm sure Feefo would say Violence Begets Violence would bump in the whip. It appears that not many in hiphop look @ the history of the genre, where fans of other genres appreciate the history more.
Myke, @ the end did u say RUCKA ALI????

Phonte - Charity Starts At Home..... Album coming soon!!! Put it on your to do list! And Review!!
Message from the future, that shit's gon be bomb
what's your opinion on whether a mc uses a pen/pad or rapping off the top of their head?
is it cause they found their "style" or is it to show off their abilities.
i brought it up because i think many rappers would be better if they quite the bullshit and actually take time to write.
to apply it to a current rapper for example when Wiz stopped writing i think his lyrical ability went to shit.
Who was it that Myke named after El-P?
Wow it gets even more heated. Dayum.
@mykectown (cont.) in a more balanced radio world, guys like Drake would probably have a few songs you would consider listenable. Not that he's ill.
+FallenX100 lmao that wasn't some aristotle shit at all
+FallenX100 Not even close to Aristotle, not even stoic, however I agree completely. It's like the cinema these days as well. People say the Avengers is amazing while I'm sitting back watching Lawrence of Arabia.
+FallenX100 Tupac's rhymes were easy to understand and, compared to other lyricists, were quite simplistic as well. What does that mean?
+Chris Lockhart I don't think being simplistic is bad. Lacking reality, meaning and message is.
Daeron Vu My point exactly. Tell that to the op, that's what he's implying.
@sandrofilipee i second that motion!
@JW2K3 i know he's from toronto and i read your comment, but who cares where he is from and where you are from?
Dudes in the caps flip-flop like crazy, haha. It's cool though. I see what they're saying.
19:53 De Niro disapproves
Old school all day and I am 19.
drake does goes in on some level. ever since he been down with young money he watered down a bit but he still kills it. he's not a lyricist though but he aint a garbage rapper.
