Khe Sanh was where our U.S. Marine Corps "Grunts" were under siege by 3 NVA Regiments in 1968, and Aussie Special Ops (& more;) were with us in 'Nam in '65, & on... We'll Never Forget.

This is rock n roll not country. This band was huge in Australia in the 80's. This is called pub rock. in the 80's on a Saturday night, you could find in pubs all over Australia bands like Cold Chisel, INXS, Midnight Oil, The Models, The Angels, Divinyls, Australian Crawl, Rose Tatto, The Radiators, Hunters & Collectors, Icehouse, Noiseworks, The Choir Boys, Hoodoo Gurus, Mental as Anything and many more. These bands were huge and accessible to fans, in pubs all over Australia. Some went on to international fame, others were just huge in Australia. Before the internet in the 80s, every Thursday afternoon a free magazine would be out at train stations, street corners in bins (not rubbish bins lol), called the Gig Guide. You would get this free magazine to see what pubs and venues your favorite bands were playing that wknd. The good old days the 80s.

I saw everyone on that list, multiple times, except INXS, I thought them too commercial. But what an era. Glad you mentioned the Radiators, they supported The Angels a lot, it made for a great night out. I remember when Midnight Oil first started out, they sold copies of their first cassette at the door. :)
I remember once, Angry, shaking the sweat off his head onto the drum skins, and it would bounce right back off. I always waited for Peter Garratt to do the same thing but no. LOL.

Crikey mate. I'd forgotten all about the gig guide. Wow you've now brought back so many memories of the Prossie, (Prospect Hill Hotel), the Sentimental Bloke, the Commercial, the Cricketers Arms, The Derby, The Station, The Village Green, The New Orleans Tavern, The South Yarra Arms, The palace, The Sydney Myer Music Hall, and of course Festival Hall and the ultimate The Espy. Hah, I worked on the door of the Espy when I was 18 in 1986/87 and man the heads that walked through that door back then. Met Bowie there, Annie and Dave, Michael Hutchence and some of the band, Mark Seymour, The Finn Bro's, and of course the most well know poof, or at least known as a poof, Molly Hum Drum Meldrum, Between rubbing shoulders with their like and getting laid nearly every night I was in heaven and didn't even know it. God they were bloody good times.

Hi to both of you from Melbourne, Australia. Khe Sanh is the unofficial national anthem for whole generations of Australians here Australia committed substantial military forces during the Vietnam War. The big Australian engagements included Long Tan, and Operation Silver City (mentioned in the lyrics), amongst others. Aussie spec forces worked with their US counterparts and on their own as well. The lyrics are definitely in an Australian context, and reflective of that time period. Whilst Khe Sanh has a folk/country thread weaved through it, Cold Chisel is definitely a rock band. Jimmy Barnes is an Aussie Legend! Really enjoying your content! Looking forward to more Aussie and Kiwi tunes as well. Cheers!

The genre would be Pub Rock.
Cold Chisel have just announced and sold out their 50th anniversary tour in Australia, happening later this year.
You could do a Chisel week and not run out of brilliance. Some reactor favourites though are
    Bow River. (Harmonica for days)
    When the war is over.
(both of those from the 2008 ringside concert).
Their cover of Wild Thing from The Last Stand is a perfect example of their young rock days.
And then there’s the lead singer, (well the primary lead singer), Jimmy Barnes with an amazing solo career. You could start with his duets though.
With John Farnham- When something is wrong with my baby
    With INXS - Good Times
With Joe Bonamassa - Stone Cold
And then Rob Squad, you would just be scratching the surface

They just recently announced a reunion tour and new album so maybe that’s why you’ve been getting a few extra requests for them. They are an iconic Aussie Pub Rock band since the late 70s. Bow River is a must, bluesy rock with guitarist Ian Moss singing lead on that one 💕 But you need to do the official video so you can actually see the band cos Jimmy is quite the wild character on stage!! Other Chisel songs: Forever Now; When the war is over; My Baby; Flame Trees. Then you need to do some solo Jimmy Barnes: I’d Die to Be With You Tonight; Let’s make it last all night; Lay Down Your Guns; Too Much Ain’t Enough Love.

I'm sure others have said that this song's an unofficial national anthem, and Chisel are touring for their 50th anniversary. So another loved one is Flame Trees, plus Forever Now (which the drummer cowrote/wrote respectively), Saturday Night and/or When the War is Over, so you can hear guitarist Ian Moss take lead vocals too. I think you need to see initially their cover of "Wild Thing" from the Last Stand tour in 1983 when they first called it quits (or the 'official' version). Love the muted smile by the guy when Jimmy Barnes sings "their legs were often open but minds were always closed".
    He got it

This song was banned on Australian radio for the lyrics. Eventually the industry understood it couldn’t be ignored. Greatest pub rock band in Australia ever.

If you're looking for more Aussie bands, particularly more recent, try Powderfinger "These Days" or maybe The Whitlams "No Aphrodisiac"

Prepare for a tonne of views and more requests for this band. Aussie legends. Just announced their 50th anniversary tour, it sold out in an hour at big venues, and now they've announced more shows due to demand on sale next week. Expecting that to sell out quickly.

Whatever you listen to of Chisel do the live version. Started as a pub band & ended up one of our best live acts. Jimmy Barnes can sing anything. A great blues rock voice coming from his Scottish roots but every member of the band were exceptional artists.
