I am so shocked, many are now saying this is their first time listening to Phil Collins? Where has folks been! Been listening to him since I was very young, Im 63 now.......Love me some Phil!
Notice how these artists knew how to build the crowds up and how they use lights , and music and how they come on stage and how the enteract with the crowd. Notice his expressions and way he sung playing to the crowd. The artists in the 70s and 80s knew how play the crowd and be part of them and make them feel part of the show and Collins was a pro at it
Was running an errand the morning of my wedding in '81. This song comes on the radio. First time that day I lost it! Also I'm always amazed by drummers who sing. Imagine trying to keep the beat and sing at the same time.
It has taken me almost all of my 60 years to not care what other people think about me. I'm so happy you are learning that at a younger age. None of those people have ANY IDEA what you are capable of accomplishing. Keep going - you are enriching MANY people's lives by what you are doing here on this channel.
Wow! I just realized I've been listening to Phil Collins since my college days, in the early 80's! This song is 40+ years old! And! It Still Blows My Mind!
Hey, "J"...you go head and spill your story line... that's why they call it " ART "...it inspires one to tell their own Truth...where've they've been ...you wear your story well 🌹🙋🇺🇸✌️ PHIL and his TALENT are a WORK OF ART !
January 1981 Phil wrote, produced and performed this single in a very subdued UK environment with 'some' attention but not at the the level it's risen to today. The concert we're watching here was at the Palais Omnisports Paris Bercy, in June 2004. At the beginning he recalls a meeting with someone for whom he obviously has no respect (Well if you told me you were drowning, I would not lend a hand. I've seen your face before, my friend, but I don't know if you know who I am. I was there and I saw what you did...saw it with my own two eyes (In his mirror). So you can wipe off that grin...I know where you been. It's all been a pack of lies.) He's referring, of course, to himself and not to some imaginary other. His lowest point in life (drowning) through his answered prayers for success (I can feel it comin' in the air tonight, oh Lord) to his eventual stardom (I've been waiting for this moment all my life) brought him here to share with you and me the one thing that we're all afraid of...failure vs success. The melody is haunting, the atmosphere follows suit, the lyrics touch all of our hearts and the climax is...well, you tell me!

I'm 67 years old and even though I love all types of music from all eras, the music of the 70s and 80s is the music that entwines my heart and soul. The best years of my life. Most of the family and friends from those years have passed, whether from illness or age, but when I hear the songs, I'm back with them; healthy and laughing and loving life. I enjoy seeing you and others of your generation - and those even younger - experiencing and appreciating the talent that came before you. Thank you for your videos.
I'm 27 myself, and I only heard Phil Collins when I was 6. I'm so grateful that there were people who came before me who produced something like this, for my generation and others to be inspired and strengthened by.
He was 53 years old when he did this concert in Bercy, Paris in 2004. Truly an amazing performance by Brad Cole (keyboards, synthesizers, Vocoder), Daryl Stuermer (6 String Guitar), Leland Sklar (Bass Guitar), Chester Thompson ("Rhythm" Drums) and Phil himself (vocals, drums).
Insecure people will always try to break others down to lift themselves up. Don't pay attention to them and stay focused on yourself and your life then they will have no power to obtain from you and they sulk away back to the shadows.
_"Insecure people will always try to break others down to lift themselves up."_ No. Some of them may do that. But just because somebody is insecure doesn't mean he is an asshole, like you're trying to say.
@@dxb8086 You're right, I stand corrected. I'll rephrase it to say that there are many insecure people who will often times try to break you down to lift themselves up.
@@dxb8086 I get what he meant. He didn't mean all insecure people put others down, he meant those who do put others down are insecure in themselves. Trying to hold others back, and not liking them succeeding because it reminds them that maybe they're not achieving what they wanted themselves.

This is the best live performance that I have ever come across of this song. Phil Collins has such talent! I wish he was still performing, but his health isn't the best nowadays. We will soon be losing so many of the great talents of the 60-70's era.
