I've had the X90K for a few days now and honestly I'm quite happy with it. Obviously it's not an OLED, but for my particular use (an average of 10 hours a day...and I use several of those hours as a PC monitor) I don't think an OLED was what I needed...
On the other hand, minimally touching some settings, I don't see blooming except if you intentionally look for it very very carefully (something that doesn't make much sense) and watching TV in an absolutely really dark environment...
Detail in dark scenes, in my opinion, is better than it is in an OLED...at least on the C1 I tested, in wich I found that dark scenes tended to be too dark without much detail.
Colors are really natural and if you like more saturated colors, you can also get it by changing settings.
Brightness is also much more than enough for my taste and the sharpness of the image and that "almost" 3D effect that Sony gives it is quite nice.
I like the new remote control, since it is simpler and smaller than the previous one. By the way, it comes with 2 remote controls, one more "minimalist" and the other with more buttons, but also smaller than in previous years.

That's why I'm leaning towards X90K too. It's just because I would use this TV all day long + it's gonna most likely lose the price quickly since it's not hyped OLED, and you should be able to buy it in pretty reasonable price soon.

Your comment about blooming is spot on about so many TV "issues" in general. Blooming, imperfect blacks, DSE......most of these things you won't notice until a TV reviewer tells you you should notice it. Meanwhile they rave about OLED even though OLED's dimness/ABL is far more annoying to me than any of LCD's shortcomings.

I was at first debating between the Sony A80K and the LG C2 since atm they are the same price. But saw the X90K on sale and after comparing the A80K and the X90K I decided I would be OK with the X90K but did like the LG C2's picture more than both Sony TVs. Am I the only one that sees the C2 OLED screen as being unrealistically black? For example, that picture of the lion by the water looks so unrealistic and not true to what your eyes would actually see. And also the image of the sun going down at 4:50, it looks unrealistic because a sun setting is never going to look that dark on the horizon. Just my opinion. I think the Sony's colours look way better, much richer and truer to reality.

We bought the a80j 77inch for our den and X95K 75inch for our living room which we are loving especially the sound. We are thinking of replacing our 2019 LG E9 with the new 77inch C2. it seems, that I'm the only person, who detects for OLED fewer details, blurry particles and tinted colors, good to see in Explosions. If this video is "real" I like the x90k more, it's simply more natural and precise in color down to the smallest details... better contrast and black can not heal that for me. Maybe I'm totally wrong, but the OLED has (also often seen in other Previews) the wrong white balance, for example snow is blue or green, sky and skyscrapers are tinted, not simply mostly gray.

I have a x90k and a c1, so the c1 decently looks a little better but honestly very comparable and hard to tell the difference when not side by side. Also the x90k doesn't need professional calibration if you use the custom picture setting. Sony already pre calibrates their flagships. Also input lag is minimal and 30fps games will look slightly better on an led due to not having instant pixel response like an oled

Put an oled and led next to eachother, 2 completely different panels and technology, then use the same settings on both?
Ofcourse it won't look the same, but ok i agree a good oled always looks better than any led tv, but think the sony managed pretty well here,
Sinse iv'e become abit allergic to oled coz i had a burn in on my screen,2017-18, i know the panels got better, but the problem still exists, they haven't been able to Solve the problem, but they have worked around the issue with movin pixels and tone down area where u might have a static picture wich u almost always have when gaming.rather have some blooming than the risk of burn in,image retention. As u might have seen on the oled, the snow was abit blue,
But Brian mentioned that early in the video, oled can b abit "blueish" unfortunantly it doesn't matter wich tv u look at, there's no such thing as a perfect tv,

Hi Brian, thank you for the video. I've been looking forward to some detailed videos on the X90K. I'm looking to buy a new 65" Sony in the next couple of months. My 8 yr. old Bravia KDL-60W850B edge-lit died on me a couple of months ago and I've been immersing myself in TV tech video blogs ever since, to get up to speed with understanding all of the new tech. I have learned a lot from you and Stop the FOMO, B The Installer, Keep It Classy Tech. etc. My use case is predominantly cinema: new and classic films across many genres; from restored Criterion titles on bluray, blockbusters and epics to A24 indies on bluray/4K. With all of the recent price drops; the A80J, the X95J and now the X90K all seem to be in the same price range. I am hoping that you can give me a little advice? I am wondering if the X90K being the newest with the 2nd gen XR-1 processor (and with more dimming zones) can beat out last years X95J ? Very concerned about contrast. Also, I am very interested in the A80J, but I worry about bleed- in since I can listen to hours of Apple Music and am worried that the static cover-art-square in the center of the screen might create a bleed-in problem. What unit do you think might be the best of these three for a cinephile to purchase at this price range? I don't know if this is the correct forum to ask for advice, but I value your expertise and opinion very much. Thank you!

Well the obvious question is this. I'm watching this comparison on my 1080p Sony KDL-40Z5800 LED that I wish to upgrade to 4K HDR. I can see the difference between the two and the C2 looks better. But wait a minute. I'm seeing the better C2 quality on my old Z5800 LED. Surely the latest X90K has better image quality than my Z5800. I would be happy with the C2 quality shown here on a X90K. I get the impression the video camera is raising the brightness to make the darker C2 look normal which is then blowing out the X90K. Shoot another video set to make the X90K look normal and the C2 will look way too dark with crunched blacks. It's all relative. Inky blacks are artificial. Very few things are 100% black in nature due to bounce light, so I have never been all in on plasma or OLED inky blacks.

Comcast cable isn't in HDR so I don't get that extra brightness either...just 200 nits...but the samsung was also very juddery on cable no matter what I did so I returned it but when displaying SDR content, the X90K is miles better cause you need that brightness otherwise in normal cable viewing you can't see the picture and there's nothing you can do about it. I have a QN90B right now but can't see me paying $620 more for it compared to the X90K for regular TV viewing so I'm exchanging it for a 65" X90K for my living room. This was a fantastic comparison, thank you!😄 I'm upgrading from a 50" 2012 Panasonic GT50 plasma and I'm weighing up between a larger LCD or smaller OLED, so this was really useful!
I want to go minimum 65", and potentially 75". Getting a decent oled, even the C1, still just seems too expensive at those larger sizes. So I think the X90K is the way to go. Do you think the X90K warrants the higher cost over the X90J?
I was impressed with the X90K here. In HDR it traded blows with the OLED in terms of brightness, with blooming being decently well handled. The OLED was still better overall though. In SDR, the X90K definitely "popped" more.
You mentioned that the X90K sometimes gets "too bright", where it brightens the entire screen too much rather than affecting just specular highlights. Do you think this is something that could be fixed (to some extent) with calibration or not something that is too much of a problem?

I have an Epson 5050 UB projector. I tried the C2 and it was just too tiny compared to a 200 inch screen. so I sent it packing. I kept the Sony 85 because it was bigger and had a bigger impact. When you are used to a giant screen it really does not matter how good the image is compared to the image size because you feel you are INSIDE of the movie or video game. A life size image with life size sound and multiple subwoofers is the ONLY way to go. Godzilla is HUGE and measured in feet and yards...not measured in tiny inches. The Sony is behind my motorized 200 inch projection screen...and I use it for casual tv and for movies too. Beautiful Sony color! But nowhere near the life size massive image impact of the Epson.

I played pacific rim 2 on the A90J/X95K (65”) side by side and the miniLed was imo a better image. The oled isn’t bright enough. That’s why my Panasonic is an amazing oled.

Honestly, it works perfect now. There is a bit of blooming before algorithm adjusts to stop blooming. but there is almost no details loss compared to oled which is important. All other brands just shut the dimming zones to arrest blooming with a huge loss of details. Most people don't understand this.

Smaller oled can be silly though as a 65in destroys the best 55in with epic immersion.
If you're into 2k/4k, anything smaller than 65 is silly.
75in also introduces small picture theatre effect with 2.35 movies, 65 doesn't.

Technically….you’ll see the C2 in “eco/APS” mode OOTB upon boot up, in SDR, with energy saving on. HDR typically defaults to Standard I believe, however, with energy savings still on. I kinda get why they do this, but it really turns me off seeing a OLED being even dimmer with energy savings on, and a cold as ice color temp. I wish LG made it easier for average consumers to set up their set correctly, as it can become a bit convoluted, with all the settings and options.
For me, it’s not a big deal, as I understand settings, and how to calibrate. I love this kinda stuff. But for the average Joe, they might really be turned off at first lol. They might be coming from a decently accurate TV, and wonder wth at first 😅
Sorry, I just had to be a smart ass lol. Btw, I’m still in awe of my C2, spending a whole year with is, after having a pretty bad experience with the CX. Didn’t plan on keeping the C2…but it just was love at first sight, and surprised me. LG fixed so many of the little issues and quirks, that turned me off on the CX. The improvements were bigger than I was expecting, and the brightness bump is more than noticeable. LG really focused on color too. The CX could look really diluted and under saturated in bright highlights. The C2, and its different dynamic tone mapping approach, and new processor, is a lot more highlight focused, was amazing to see too. The CX lifted the entire scene, including the black level, mid tones, everything…The C2 doesn’t do this. It always looks organically saturated.
Btw..you said “you can calibrate the sets down to look the same”. The point of a calibration is not to make a set dim and dull, or identical. Tho, if they’re good sets, they should look similar. Calibration is done to maximize the TV’s potential, not nerf it. It’s to create a profile, to understand the limits of said technology, and maximize the tech to it fullest potential. It’s to set it up properly for the ambient conditions it is in too, and to create multiple viewing modes, for different scenarios. It’s to set a baseline, which follows the standards said content was graded to….and then you can add things you might subjectively like, on top. It really bothers me that so many people have this notion that calibration is dimming and making the picture dull. If that’s the case, then the calibration was done poorly. Or the set can’t replicate the standards. (Like those fake HDR TV’s that can only hit 200 nits peak….so just to say it again, a calibration should improve the set, not hurt it.
I mean you can still watch a set that has a proper D65 white point, has proper color tracking, gamma, etc, and boost things like luminance, or EOTF, to fit your surroundings…for instance, using DTM in a bright room, or just bc you like DTM (I do on the C2). Or using DoVi bright, vs dark. There’s always compromises tho when deviating. I just don’t get the notion that a calibrated set is dim or dull….it’s a misnomer if I’ve ever seen one.
Say you had a 4,000 nit Pulsar, or a BVM HX310 that does 1,000 nits full field, and it was calibrated to follow the standards…like PQ…would you consider that set dull and dim, despite the amazing capabilities of those panels, and them being calibrated to standards? I highly doubt it….I know they don’t look dim and dull to me. Quite the contrary.
I love ya Brian! So don’t take anything I’m saying in a bad way. I’m just putting my two cents out there, and trying to help ppl understand.
