I recently removed the contact paper for anyone who was wondering how it was holding up. It held up amazingly, I just decided it was time since I have a baby on the way an we aren’t sure how much longer we will be living in this rental. So I put in the work now, while I can and I made a video on how I did it. Check it out!!! ua-cam.com/video/39zyTJDTviU/v-deo.html
Hello, thanks for the video. I want to install this on my rental kitchen cabinets but wanted to make sure if it doesn’t leave any mark or anything on the original wood cabinet. You said you removed it, so I thought you already saw how the before cabinets look right now. Is this contact paper removable? It doesn’t leave any marks or peeling when you remove it after using a long time? I really need to change my cabinets and wanted to make sure before. Thank you so much again for sharing. Happy to subscribe your channel.
For people questioning contact paper on the kitchen, it is very durable. The glue is similar to the kind they (3M) use for wall murals, door lettering, and similar products. So it's not going to peel unless you either peel it yourself or you've applied it incorrectly. It won't be affected by liquids, but you should certainly use caution with extremely hot dishware. No, a mug filled with coffee or tea is not going to damage it. If you set a pot that was just boiling on it, it will likely melt, but if you're going to invest a bit in some redesigning, it won't hurt you to buy a trivet. Add a little extra to your decor. They even sell some cute ones at the dollar tree.
I think for the counter id wanna get some wider roles so there arent so many different pieces. More of a seamless look. But this is great! Im def gunna do my cupboards i just wish my cupboards didnt have all the bevels and routing in them. Ill probably change up the knobs too.
WOW - that’s a ton of work you put in!! I’ve watched a million and one videos about updating kitchen cabinets and counters and this is the first time that I’ve seen a kitchen that is EXACTLY like mine. Exact same cabinets and counters. Thanks so much for sharing your experience!
You did a beautiful job it's always going to be someone that's a goodie goodie to find some negative crap to say... Not to think of the time and creativity that went into it... It looks fabulous
Amazing! Thank you for posting. I am moving into a rental in three weeks and while I love it, the kitchen is not my taste. This is the perfect color combo. I was an army wife for 20 years and have been contact paper counter tops since 1994, but I haven't done cabinets. Your look better than I imagined!
Yes they do l have watched on u tube channels. Today we have some of everything for home in improvement you can make your whole place look totally Different. I do want to change my counters l just had my floors done last year and replaced my stove and fridge both stainless steel brand new so my counters are next l too am going to do the counters l might do my cabinets as well l picked out my Back splash and countertop papers Judy got to put it together. Thanks 🙏🏽
I love this! I've rented for over 25 yrs. And we have moved into some really ugly places! Contact paper is genius! You can cover paneling on walls. They make contact paper that looks like shiplap You can get some that look like brick. You can use it to cover old vinyl floors. And use as wallpaper. Its fabulous
That video has brought me back to 1997 when I had the same project as a newlywed. I used “white wood” paper for cabinets and “marble” paper for countertops... Scandinavian style on budget.
I just received my contact paper for my kitchen countertop and kitchen cabinets. Updating our double-wide, very exciting. I've watched this video probably an uncountable amount of times. love the music too. great job, i can honestly say i was inspired. simple and affordable but still nice looking. thanks for sharing.
Wow, I'm impressed!! I'm putting together a proposal for my landlord as I live in an old house that needs some TLC in the kitchen - badly! I worry if he'll say "No" to putting new cabinets in. Well now, because of you & this video, I have something to fall back - black wood contact paper! Thanks!! Your kitchen looks amazing!
Amaziiiiiing. Time for me to go buy some contact paper too. Noticed they have so many types of designs of contact paper on amazon. Love the marble contact paper design..looking at some now. The quickest and easiest way to change kitchen designs without paying a fortune. And the contact paper is there for the long haul till u decide to remove it. Waterproof and everything. Love it
Googled black contact paper cabinets and found this video only to realize I’ve seen this house before!!! lol loved there a few years back! Love what you did!
I appreciate your How To. Methodically covering the various angled, curved, smooth and sharp-edged main surfaces and borders/trim pieces. I'm looking forward to my first attempt. I'm not expecting to replicate your results, this is my first time.
Starting at 10:06 is how you should have done all of the countertops. One Continuous piece for back to front. And never a one to two inch wide strip at sink or front edges. Hoping they don't peel off.
I contacted my kitchen cabinets 40 years ago. I only did the door fronts in dark wood grain and left the trim in white so it was much easier. My brother thought we got new kitchen cabinets when he saw it for the first time.
That kitchen looks so much better what a great job.! The only thing is you need to measure and mark your places then cut and if you do it this way you won’t have to do patch work because you will be cutting to your measurements you just took. And it will fit better and you will have larger pieces for your countertops like your cabinets. But it really is a great transformation in that kitchen. And the colors you choose are perfect.
I do not have as much counter space as you do but I never thought of this idea.. Perfect!! I am going to try it. Maybe even the cabinets. Thanks for the great idea!! You did a fantastic job..
I have the exact same black wood and white marble paper in my Amazon cart right now! It was great to get an idea of what it looks like all together 😊. I am going to do this and add a Subway tile backsplash to it. Great job!!!
I’ve never seen anyone use the wood grain contact paper. It looks fabulous on your cabinets! I have manufactured home cabinets and they’re 🤮! What a great idea to cover them! Your transformation looks beautiful! Your hard work paid off.
You have a LOT of patience🤷🏾♀️. Great job....❤❤❤....HOWEVER most apartments that look like this🙄... the landlord or management will gladly allow a tenant to paint and improve alsp as long as THEY don't have to pay for it. This video can serve as your portfolio for all future rentals. Show this to management and let them see how good your work is and TRUST ME they will TRUST YOU..Its FREE improvement on YOUR DIME. They would be foolish to deny you. Also consider countertop paint. It looks amazing and its much faster! Best wishes to you!!
I agree. In one of my old apts we had added the backsplash fake tiles & had changed the nobs.. when we moved out they asked if we'd please leave everything as is. LOL They really liked the way it looked. We were surprised.
In doing your counter tops do the main flat area first then go back to do the backsplash section. Follow up with a nice thin line of caulking. This allows for a solid piece of contact paper on the counter area that has a lot of use. Doing this way will stand up longer to daily use.
My Apt has no medicine cabinet so I purchased Dollar Tree contact paper & a $5 CD laminate stand from the thrift store, I covered the stand with a very cool white & gray contact paper & now I store all my toiletries there with several Dollar Tree plastic containers. Now my granddaughter's know exactly where Grandma's scrungies & brushes are kept. 😁
Just be careful with putting anything too hot on the surface! It can burn through the paper- but if you want to keep it you can always pour resin over it and then it should be fine with any hot pots or things on it!:)))
Omg I did my counter marble to I wanted to do my cabinets black but I was kinda SCARED until I saw your video thank you for doing this video It inspired me to do my cabinets black thank you so much for this video
Wow, that transformation was lovely. I recently used contact paper to update my table, and I love it. I used the faux marble one. I was contemplating using it on my countertops because I wasn’t sure how durable it would be near the sink due to water . But it seems it holds up nicely. You inspired me! ❤️❤️❤️ (new subscriber ☺️)
Girllllllllll you saved my life I literally was going to invest in new cabinets because my is also out dated wall paper just change the game thank you so much Best DYI 👍🏽
I did my kitchen countertop ... Everyone thought i thought bought new countertops ... I know how much work it takes ... Had to use small pieces too ... I think u did a really ... Really good job
It’s funny because this is EXACTLY how my apartment countertops and cabinets look in my rental(your before). Gives me hope! I just don’t know how it would look once I opened the cabinets and drawers though.. I’m on the fence
I love black!! I painted once my rental black cabinets..and just left it like that when i moved out...putting paper is time consuming more then just painting them really fast but nicely
Very nice! I had to do this decades back. Our kitchen cabinets were white metal. 😣 I made them look like brown wood. That marble contact paper is what I'm using soon on my dressers.

Genesis Adams how many rolls did you use for the counter tops?
I wanna know approximately how many rolls you ended up using?
I came across this video I must say I enjoyed watching it and it came out beautiful.
How many rolls did you purchase ?
That black contact paper is life 😍
Yaaaasss!!😍

I might have to try this in my brother scan n cut.. I bet it is cheaper..
How many contact paper should we get?
I've had mine on my cabinets for 4 years and it's held up great.
I think for the counter id wanna get some wider roles so there arent so many different pieces. More of a seamless look. But this is great! Im def gunna do my cupboards i just wish my cupboards didnt have all the bevels and routing in them. Ill probably change up the knobs too.
The lines drive me crazy too, but I feel like after you put everything back on the counters you probable wouldn't notice.
The more seams the more places for water to seep into which is the only bad part about it. So you have to make as little seems as possible.

The faux black wood print with the marble print is the best mix of prints I’ve seen on UA-cam and I will definitely be stealing for my apartment 😍😍😍
