FYI: I asked for permission to do this DIY. I see so many comments from landlords upset regarding rental apartments DIY's. If you are renting please remember that you need permission to make any changes and that if you don't please make sure they are not permanent and that you will return the place the same it was giving to you. The day I move I will be placing back items I removed. Thank you.
I think landlords should appreciate when renters take pride in their living space and do things to make it look nice. As long as it's nothing TOO out there they shouldn't have to remove their hard work, because the new tenants just may love it. I redid our house, from peel and stick flooring all the way to painting and replacing electrical outlets and their covers. When we move this house will look a million times better then it did when we moved it, someone is going to love it and I hope they appreciate the hard work I put into this place.
You are so right! A girl that lived in my rental apartment before me redid the kitchen and the bathroom cabinets with contact papers and I absolutely love it. Its why I chose this apartment in the first place.
I love that idea but I don't trust landlords. A landlord would charge the next tenant more for a "customized apartment" or "luxury upgrades" they didn't do themselves. The landlord might like it now while you're there but once you're gone, you could end up with a lawsuit. Not saying every landlord would do that. I'd rather save myself, and potentially someone else, that mess by taking it down once it's time to go.
I agree with you! It’s an upgrade to the rental space. We have made sure that we can paint and redo cabinets in the bathroom! My new space has three bathrooms and the first guest bath has an out dated medicine cabinet. It is being Replaced thankfully by the owner of our rental. We had our painter completely paint everything except the bathrooms. This we saved up for. My choice of paint for living room and dining room and long hall was honey tan by Sherwinn Williams. Both bedrooms are light gray. I am looking forward to adding back splash in the kitchen. What do you think of the peel and stick tiles. I absolutely love love your Upgrade! I decided to subscribe! All the best to you.
I am 78 years old and I have used contact paper for a lot of "stuff". Never once did I think of placeing a piece of paper over the groves then placing the contact paper over both. Absolutely wonderful idea. The kitchen turned our very, very nice. Thanks for giving an old lady a very useful new idea.
I came here to comment on what an impressive trick that is. So simple and effective! I have been wanting to cover my cabinets but felt too intimidated by the grooves. Going to try this!
@@cocopuff6810 if you don't like the impression tiles would show and want it to be smooth you could lay down a piece of thin cardboard or poster paper first.
That's awesome! Congrats on your new place, hope you enjoy it. I love these DIYs to help Renters able to more freely enjoy their living space the same way home owners are able to.
So this is by far the BEST actually rental-friendly kitchen makeover I've seen that is truly affordable. So many people make videos saying "rental-friendly" and then they end up painting things and drilling holes in the wall. Thank you so much for this. My husband and I just went to Target and got some marbled contact paper and plan to give ourselves fresh-looking counter tops. :)
I agree. I did see another renter-friendly diy but they used some sort of board from Home Depot to cover the cabinets. It was really easy but I would rather go to one store. I had the Idea for the poster board because I was going to use it on my tiled back splash because nothing will stick to it for long, but I wasn't sure if it would work on cabinets! I'm so happy it does.
I did this to my kitchen over 12 years ago in a rental we were in because the kitchen was in bad shape. The landlord was so impressed that he asked us to let it up. I did it in turquoise pattern and it was beautiful. You did amazing ❤

Almost all of us in our lives have started with a "crappy kitchen." Do you stuff that is different to make it look like yours. And you can hang up a little picture underneath the cabinet with a push pin. So there's ways that you can make it yours without watching those overprice ways of doing your house. It doesn't have to look like the Kardashians live there. But it will look like you live there with love..And the fact that you have a roof over your head that you can afford and you can cook and eat and be content it for outweighs all the other stuff. But some of these ideas are really excellent. We've all had those kitchens. Really and truly and somehow we survived. And raised kids and pets and all the good stuff. Peace and blessings to you. Gail in Central Florida, January 1, 2021. Thank God...
My sons and I are starting over. So we just moved. Our counters are stained and just yuck My landlord said I could paint or anything to improve. But as a single mom. Paint is expensive. This technique is perfect for me because I have been wanting to switch up my kitchen cabinets, but I’m so scared of doing all the work to sand and then paint them, and potentially end up not liking them. This will allow me to “try before I buy.” Love it!
That white contact paper on the cabinets is an amazing idea! I own my home but have been thinking of painting my kitchen cabinets. This way I can try out the color (or close to) and live with it a bit to see if I like it
Contact paper on cabinets instead of painting it, is a fantastic idea! I totally apprecuate how you showed us everything in your contact paper process! Thank you a bunch! How does contact paper hold up with water, cleaning and rubbing?
Great to watch! I did something much like this back in the 80's while living in military housing. It looked great and held up great for the 3 years we lived there. So easy to remove when it was time to move. I even put contact paper the bathroom floor and it look great.
How were you able to maintain it when you put it on the floor? My floor is tile and 16 years old. I can't go through the expense of replacing completely.
Removing it is my first concern, coz when it's time to leave a rental you need to make sure it comes off completely without damaging any paint or wood. Please update how you took them off easily. 🙏🏻
I just watched this awesome kitchen makeover video, and I can't believe they did it all for under $30! The DIY tips were super practical, and I love that it's rental-friendly - perfect for someone like me who can't make permanent changes. I'm feeling inspired to give my kitchen a budget-friendly facelift now.
When you move please share how easy or hard it was to remove the contact paper. I'm always worried about the adhesive leaving goo behind 😕 but I want to do this to my new place!
The lady is brilliant. Thank you very much for the advice. They are simple and give a nice final effect. For several months I have been thinking about how to renew kitchen cabinets, with fronts that cannot be painted, I was limited by the recesses in their middle part (like yours), thanks to you I now know how to deal with it and refurbishment of cabinets will be done without dirt, paints, glue, etc. Thank you very much again! Best regards from Poland.
Wow! Such a great job!. You have a lot of patience . I could see myself getting frustrated and tearing up thr paper. Very trdious and I applaid you for such a profession renovation on a budget.
Wow! Beautiful job! Thanks for sharing this transformation. My parents are landlord of multiple buildings and they sure do appreciate when tenants want to help with renovating their space!!! Five or six years ago, one of his tenants wanted to fix/upgrade the wood floor so he and my dad went in 50-50 on the expenses. the tenant did all the work and installed it himself! beautiful bamboo flooring (landlord approved)! It still looks like it was just fine yesterday! Just beautiful
I always appreciate videos like this geared towards rentals, because it's always a simple & cheap solution ♥️ I'm a home-owner, but I benefit from these ideas so much when I want to have a beautiful home on a budget. We used contact paper on our kitchen table & our stairs (not the risers)😱😱. It's held up for over a year now & still looks great !
Perfect! Wow. This is the BEST Budget DIY I’ve ever seen. I have wanted to do these ugly cabinets for the four plus years I’ve been here but was daunted by the grooves in the cabinet doors. I saw a video where someone used heavy mylar- which would defeat the budget... never thought of poster board. What an ingenious solution. I did my backsplash and counters once- but not as well as you did yours. Definitely had some wrinkles. Also the place where the counter meets the wall and continues up... it cracked there due to the crappy caulking job the maintenance people did. Anyway, thanks for this... I’m inspired. Can’t wait to try this! I think I’ll have to ask somebody to help by pulling the paper as I place it.
You definitely have a gift! You can easily look at something and see it's potential and put it together in your mind! Beautiful and yes, perfect for a rental!
Me too scruffy oh I thought she did incredible it looked great I just wonder the only thing is how long will that contact paper stay working around the sink I just never worked with it so I don't know it looks stunning
OMG your video just saved me so much of a headache. putting contact paper on the kitchen cabinets with ridges seemed impossible but that construction paper trick is a God-send. Thank yoooouuu
This is amazing. I have been trying to find an easy way to cover my bevelled cabinet doors. Now I’m going to try your technique of using a board over the front before using the vinyl. How exciting!!! Of all the videos I have seen yours is the most down to earth and pragmatic. Thank you from the UK!
Very creative i used adhesive paper before in my first apartment just for the area where my garbage can was ... i just peeled it off and used some goo gone on the sticky areas, washed my walls with dawn and warm water. Saved me alot of time and having to pay to restore the painted wall when i moved out.
Now that is a great idea and super affordable. I have a house and I wanted to change it up but I’m on a budget and this video was amazing. Your kitchen came out beautiful.
This is genius! I have similar cabinets that are UGLY and I hate them! We own our house but don’t have the $$ to renovate. I’m absolutely doing this until we can get a more permanent solution! Weekend plans, done.
That’s amazing! I ordered a bunch of peel and stick wall paper to redo my kitchen an will be starting tomorrow. This video really helped with how to get around the outlets and cabinets!
Wow I’ve never been so impressed by a video!!!! Wow you should go into business doing for owners of rentals and or anyone on a budget wanting an affordable make over. I’ve recently bought a lot of rentals, and I was thinking I wish somebody like you was around here that I could have you go buy that $30 for the stuff and pay 150 to put it all together you know it takes you however many hours you just charge per the hour or a flat rate you really should go on a business, we need to think of a name. This is the best video I’ve ever watched most amazing affordable transformation wow and I love your stove hood cover how beautiful is that, makes the white stove look very cool
Me too.. cabinets are not nice they are very old and draby looking.. but it is a rental.. but it's a good trick .. I did it to the last place I lived in.. cause that kitchen was awful. Not ce house awful old kitchen. Bit when I removed the contact paper it left the sticky coat behind.. had to scrub with a remover
Our lease was just renewed! Can’t wait to try this on our rental. The kitchen cupboards are the worst. Someone painted oak cabinets dark brown and it’s wearing off! Love the backsplash too!!!!!
@@marysansevere9903 You should be able to remove the residue with no problem. However, the paint on the cabinets that is "wearing off" may pose a bigger problem. Most likely it will peel additional paint off and that would not be considered normal wear and tear. So, it could affect her deposit.
Girl, you did that! If it looks that good in person I think I will try in my kitchen as a trial before I actually paint my cabinets. That way I can live with the faux color to see if that is really what I want. Before painting it permanently
That's what I was thinking! Money is tight and I need a serious kitchen make over. This will help me decide if the color scheme is what I really want. Plus, who wants to go through all that work of painting, not to mention the time involved. I can't wait to start this project. I already went to Walmart to get the paper lol. Good luck with your project as well! 👍😊
I did this to my counter and backsplash in a rental before buying my house. I loved how well this method held up on the counter and back splash but boy do I wish I did the cabinets. I love how you made the surface smooth and how this turned out. The cabinets really do make the difference. Love this.
Thank you for making this video ! Just bought a home that had long time renters and it’s too expensive to redo everything from scratch so I’m so excited to try this on my old cabinets and countertops
Girl!!! So Genius putting that paper over the cabinet!!! I was like how is she going to make those edges perfect!!! Thats how my cabinets are and u did a perfect job!! I am sooo impressed by u!! I am going to do this!!!TYSM!!
You did an amazing job! Do you plan to add knobs to the cabinet doors? They sell one that stick right on with strong adhesive. I think that would give your kitchen an extra pop!! ♥️
This turned out SO good!!! I've had the thought of covering my kitchen counter with contact paper for over a year, but always too chicken because it seemed so hard to do. Your technique looks WAY less intimidating than what I had in my head, or seen others do! I just may end up doing it. Thank you for the inspiration, your kitchen looks FABULOUS!
The only problem, wear & tear. My daughter n law did that for their counters and it didn't hold up at all. They are rough on things anyway but still, if you can maintain that look, that's great, I think it looks beautiful. Sometimes, if you ask, landlords will allow upgrades, like painting, some will even allow you to deduct the cost from the rent. Just thought you might benefit to know that, being a previous renter, and previous landlord. Good luck on future endeavors, btw, you must have patients of a saint, I have the worse time trying to apply contact paper on anything, you made it look so easy, and great idea using the the dollar tree poster paper on the cabinet doors, your a smart cookie.
For $30, I would just redo it if there is wear and tear as oppose to doing permanent upgrades on a rental. The wear and tear does come into play on how the person takes care of things or if the household is large.
Woman! Thank you so much! I am struggling with my kitchen rn. I don't have much to work with but your video is definitely helping me make a start. I'm a stay at home mom as of right now and that's not normally how I live so it's different and now that I'm at home all of the time I have came apon all of these at home organization tasks and I don't even know where to begin.
I’m sorry but I’m going to imitate this exact same look but just add a splash of Red because of my appliances. Girllllll you did your thing!!! I cannot wait to try this this weekend
Wow love this I painted my cabinets four yrs ago ,didn't like the finish and stripped it off. You just gave me a new project to up date my kitchen , its been a funky color yellow since I brought this house. So thanks for a new project for the new year. I shop at Lowes so much I love seeing creative women great job.
Wow! I was really septic when I saw you wrapping the cabinet doors as I really thought it was not going to turn out the way you wanted but it absolutely looks gorgeous!! Amazingly gorgeous!! You did a wonderful job!!! I LOVE what you did & the price as well!!!♥️♥️♥️
I did something similar in my rental kitchen, but the backsplash was textured and it looks like those small square glass tiles (Amazon) and the countertop I used was white marbled look and the cabinets I just painted grey since they were painted (BADLY) by the owner and we agreed to paint them. Looks sooooo much better! It changes the whole feel of the room.
If you are going to paint countertops the hardware stores sell countertop paint that will hold up and be cleanable, plus they come in a variety of colors. Much better than regular paint.
This looks amazing and you had a great solution for the grooves on the cabinets. As a renter though, I have rented places with contact paper peeling off and it's quite dreary. This is why I have never done it. Please let us know how it holds up.
I just realized my kitchen is designed the exact same way holy cow the stove sink the cabinets and everything exactly like mine wow I think I want to copy your entire kitchen style lol love it
Totally impressed - thank you. I'm so not crafty so vids like this help with ideas for my house. Love the cabinet posterboard idea - what a cool, simple solution. 🤩

This would make cabinets much easier I was wondering how to get around the middle part. Thank you so much for how to do it I love this DIY video. Thank you again I love the entire kitchen.
I am utterly gobsmacked that you transformed your kitchen for so little money (and lots of ingenuity). Thank you for sharing this brilliant idea. WOW!!
I love it!!! It made me so hopeful! I’ve been wanting to redo my kitchen for some time but on a budget. I have similar cabinets so I’ll def use your poster board idea! Muy Bella, dama
I love this idea!! It's a great way to change the look of your kitchen without going through all the high expense or getting grueling work. Not to mention the patience it would take to wait for all the cleaning, priming, and painting days that it takes. This looks like a one day event. My only problem is my counters are tile. Maybe I'll just bleach the grout to give it a clean look and apply decals. Thanks for the hack! Your kitchen looks beautiful! ❤️
The cabinet wrapping is such a good idea. I was thinking of doing something similar but was worried about the wrapping not coming off the actual doors. Thank you
This looks great! I’m wondering How long will the contact paper last when cooking and also how easy it is to clean the countertops from germs? Has it lasted?
Always use coasters and cutting boards, and always wile the counters with a rag if there's water or food on the counters. You can't just intentionally abuse your counters and not give a damn bad expect your counters to be perfect new and shiny.
So I’ve used this contact paper on my closet doors years ago and it comes off flawlessly. Only thing with the white is it’s kinda see thru so if there’s pattern behind it will show.
Super late response, but we did this to our kitchen counters, and to seal around the sink, we used caulk. It’s easy enough to remove once you need to remove the contact paper, but it seals from water getting under there.

Yes……… someone who didn’t piece the contact paper all together!! ~ This is how I remember my mom doing it back in the early 80’s 🥰
Exactly!!!
This is one of the very best room makeovers I’ve ever seen. And I’ve been watching these kind of things (first on tv, then UA-cam) for over 20 years.
Oh I wish more people would see this comment because many people have been wondering, thank you
Sis you deserve a huge like! Renting doesn’t mean you should bear with the ugly kitchen.
😂😂😂😂😂😂 exactly
I want to do this I'm just praying my landlord agrees
I'm about to do this exact thing to my cabinets very soon. I just couldn't figure out exact how to do it. Thank you for uploading this video~
Glad I could helped thank you💕

Same here l wanna change up my kitchen in my new apartment
@@laciaredding3931 what’s all the zero for
Now that is a great idea and super affordable. I have a house and I wanted to change it up but I’m on a budget and this video was amazing. Your kitchen came out beautiful.
Thank you so much!❤️
This is genius! I have similar cabinets that are UGLY and I hate them! We own our house but don’t have the $$ to renovate. I’m absolutely doing this until we can get a more permanent solution! Weekend plans, done.
omg your solution for the rounded parts of the cabinets is GENIUS
This was frikkin genius. I just moved into a rental with hella old and grimy cabinets. Wow.
Me too.. cabinets are not nice they are very old and draby looking.. but it is a rental.. but it's a good trick .. I did it to the last place I lived in.. cause that kitchen was awful.
Not ce house awful old kitchen. Bit when I removed the contact paper it left the sticky coat behind.. had to scrub with a remover
Just need to be careful .. landlord could charge if the sticky tape substance doesn’t come off
I'm obsessed with this Hall you have truly motivated me because I have just lost all the passion of standing in my kitchen
My kitchen looks exactly how your kitchen looked before. Thanks for uploading, you've given me a great idea of what I wanna do to my kitchen space.
Our lease was just renewed!
Can’t wait to try this on our rental. The kitchen cupboards are the worst. Someone painted oak cabinets dark brown and it’s wearing off! Love the backsplash too!!!!!
Thank you! Let me know how it goes would love to see it💕
Omg @runwaylyghts yessss someone did the same at my place 😩
Do you ask the landlord if you can do this? What if the contact sticks ?
Mary Sansevere
No, not sure the response.🤷🏻♀️
Love this.
Brilliant! I love that you did not have background music so that I could concentrate on the techniques you were using. The kitchen looks phenomenal.
well i mean when she wasnt talking and putting the marble on the other side of the room she did lol
AMEN to that !!! Music with these DIY videos is so over rated !
You technique was flawless 😍.
Yes absolutely wasn't it though
Shero!
Very nice
Right!?!?!?!?!? I would have ended up wrapped in the paper stuck together.
Brilliant idea to add the paper on top! I came to UA-cam just for that ! 🙌🏾❤️ thank you
I like this but it would be nice to see a diy removal when you move out. I’m curious if it leaves marks or takes the paint off the walls.
How do you remove the adhesive paper?
Thank you for making this video ! Just bought a home that had long time renters and it’s too expensive to redo everything from scratch so I’m so excited to try this on my old cabinets and countertops
Girl!!! So Genius putting that paper over the cabinet!!! I was like how is she going to make those edges perfect!!! Thats how my cabinets are and u did a perfect job!! I am sooo impressed by u!! I am going to do this!!!TYSM!!
Thank you so much!!
You did an amazing job! Do you plan to add knobs to the cabinet doors? They sell one that stick right on with strong adhesive. I think that would give your kitchen an extra pop!! ♥️
I didn’t even know I needed this video. Wow. GORGEOUS 😍
This is the most "Beautiful" budget friendly makeover on UA-cam 🌟💜🌟💜🌟💜🌟
I’ve always done contact paper for my apartments. The contact paper usually lasts 3 years for me. It’s going on two since I’ve redid it
@@chinadoll5863 Same here. Usually lasts about 3 years in our home as well
For $30, I would just redo it if there is wear and tear as oppose to doing permanent upgrades on a rental. The wear and tear does come into play on how the person takes care of things or if the household is large.
That happened to me too! But it was mainly because I forgot to clean my surface. :)
Or it simply wasn’t a good paper.
i put a layer of polyurethane on top of my counter and it helps a lot!
Go ahead girl whatever makes you happy I am so glad I could help. If you do tag me on IG if you have one I would love to see it. Thank you!
I need a “love” button for this
Thank you!❤️
Wow love this I painted my cabinets four yrs ago ,didn't like the finish and stripped it off.
@@blablabla82a Good to know! The countertop I did was a peel and stick. But I would like to paint the countertop in the bathroom.
@@jenniferific They also sell sink paint to make it look like marble or whatever. Go to Home Depot
Great job, I am wanting to do my backsplash. The walls are textured, hopefully it sticks.
I really like the way you use the paper on the cabinets to take away the old fashioned style and make it look modern you are awesome
Ohhh beautiful, just what I want to make in my kitchen, I thought would be expensive and now I see how cheap it could be. Thank you for sharing
I’ve watched this before about 5 months ago.. Well here I am once again watching it. This time at 4:48 a.m. LOL. This kitchen is absolutely beautiful !! Y’all did a wonderful job !! 🔥 THANK YOU for this affordable budget friendly makeover 😍 Definitely going to give this a go 🥰
This would make cabinets much easier I was wondering how to get around the middle part. Thank you so much for how to do it I love this DIY video. Thank you again I love the entire kitchen.
Omg Girl ! The cabinets & counter tops look so high end now ! Absolutely gorgeous !!
Thank you!❤️
I cannot believe you did this with contact paper! Nicely done!
I am utterly gobsmacked that you transformed your kitchen for so little money (and lots of ingenuity). Thank you for sharing this brilliant idea. WOW!!
This video is whats up! Thank you for posting for all us renters!
Glad I could help thank you!💕
I love it!!! It made me so hopeful! I’ve been wanting to redo my kitchen for some time but on a budget. I have similar cabinets so I’ll def use your poster board idea! Muy Bella, dama
Omg this is EXACTLY the solution I’ve been looking for re grooved cabinet doors. Thank you!!!
Girl. That cabinet technique, 🤯. Genius!
I was not sure how I was gonna get to those indents 😅
Great job! Looks so nice! 🤩
Thank you!❤️
"SMARTS"! EVERYONE WANTS THEIR HOME- SPACE TO BE NICE N REFLECT THEIR PERSONALITY!!! 💥🌟✨
Girl you have the patience of Job himself 🤦🏾♀️😅🤣 GREAT JOB!!!
using the marble counter top adhesive, did you still set hot pots/pans on it? does it hold up well?
My question to.
No it does not, I know from experience.
You can’t set hot pots/pans on laminate countertops anyway so no.
LexiePlusFive Thank, you.
Nooo
Your solution for the doors is genius!!! Thank you so much. This helps a lot with an upcoming project.
I’m trying to redo a property I want to rent, this looks amazing! How did the sticky paper hold up to water?
Girl, you did that! I love me a good renter-friendly upgrade.🥰
The cabinet wrapping is such a good idea. I was thinking of doing something similar but was worried about the wrapping not coming off the actual doors. Thank you
I'm curious how this is holding up?
Me too
I know someone personally who did her countertops and they lasted her whole lease
Is holding up really well I will do an update on it this week.
@@camryisaac how difficult is removal of the contact paper after several a year?
@@brifnic8305 her lease was only a year but with a little arm strength it came up fine
I really appreciate your simple but elegant improvement in your living space. Love your giving the price as you go along! A fan for sure!
I admire your commitment! That was a lot of work but it had to be so satisfying when you were done.
This looks phenomenal! I’ll be getting my own place soon and you have been a LIFESAVER!! ❤️❤️❤️
I am blown away by how good this looks! Such clever ideas! Great job!
Wow I can’t believe how different it looks, great job❤️
Thank you😘
I am sooo going to do this!! Thx for this video-I am motivated ‼️
Brilliant. I am currently looking for a cheap way to give my cabinets a fresh look and this is an awesome idea. Thank you.
Love this!!! Do you know if it will leave any residue behind when taking the paper off? I want to do this to my cabinets too
So I’ve used this contact paper on my closet doors years ago and it comes off flawlessly. Only thing with the white is it’s kinda see thru so if there’s pattern behind it will show.
I did this on my kitchen counters at my apartment. There was a tiny bit of residue, but it came off with dish soap and water. :)
Is it hard to remove when you move out? Also, when you wipe down your counters, does it come off or start to peel?
No not at all I actually show you and answer a couple of questions on my last vlog.
I would be most concerned about the area around the sink with water continuously splashing here and there, wouldn't it begin to peel there?
Super late response, but we did this to our kitchen counters, and to seal around the sink, we used caulk. It’s easy enough to remove once you need to remove the contact paper, but it seals from water getting under there.
I’ve been putting off my kitchen because of the cabinets and you just solved my problem so easily love it
I forgot to ask my question, how did you cover ur drawers and the ones that aren’t removable?
How well does countertop hold up to water.
