You are a genius!! I was tearing my hair out trying to come up with a budget friendly alternative to buying a new counter top and you’ve just delivered! Thank you! Subscribed!
Here is a tip to get a better edge. Do the front edge first! Use a piece of plywood or other flat surface to butt the front edge pieces up against the plywood so the top so the front edges are exactly flush with the top surface. THEN place the top tiles on, so the top tile will just cover over the edge of the front tiles.
Wow! Proof that no matter the budget all it takes is love, attention and rolling up your sleeves. So many diys I spot in this video that really pull the whole vibe you have going on together.
Love how this turned out but what I loved even more then the finished results was the fact that your son and husband got in there and helped you. Making it a family project. ♥️👍🏾☺️
Omg STUNNING? I think I am going to try it, my children are still young and wild, so using tile would be a better option until we are ready to redo our kitchen fully. Seven years is a reasonable amount of time to save for my dream kitchen. Thanks for sharing. 👍
I was going to paint mine but my husband a automotive painter was no way that will hold up!! So I agreed and started looking for other options. thank God I found your channel I'm doing them now and they look amazing so far and not a hard progect bless u and your sweet family 💞
An inexpensive sheet of sheet metal or aluminum would enhance the dishwasher more than the tile. Or you could spray paint the metal white or black. The tiles look great on the counters but the dishwasher, not so much. Stunning result, especially at this price point.
Great job. When I was first married I lived in a framed in home with no running water and plumbing. I managed to make my little home as homey as I could. I hade a place called Bargain Bills and one stop for paint flooring and decor. You do what you gotta do and it looks great!
I used a hair blow dryer to heat up the tile glue when I redid my bathroom floor and it made it so much easier to remove after that! Just a tip for the next time!
After watching many of your programs, it is obvious your happy and positive attitude make it possible to do all these great projects. If you ever bottle all that energy, I will place a large order.
I have an idea. So if you have a rounded edge, you can still use the tiles. Just install same way. But instead of going down the edge you get the trim wood strips. Even the decorative scrolled wooded ones and paint or stain to match. They have flat strips and rounded ones by the corner round in home depot n lowes.
Suggestion: Start at the sink area putting a full tile directly next to the sink on the right and left sides. This allows for a full section of tile at each side of the sink that are highly used areas. This only leaves a small section at the front and back. The smaller sections then are near each end towards the wall or appliances.
I did this in 1985 if a fixer upper rental mobile home. It was still going strong when we moved out 2 years later. I had completely forgotten about that little project. Great job.
I have been watching countertop videos, tonight, & yours just popped up, Thank goodness!! I love this idea!! I will be putting over some old 70's ORANGE😝 COUNTERTOPS! Is there anything special I will need to do to the existing tops? Anxious to try this, Thanks for sharing yours turned out Soo lovely goes great in your kitchen!! Next up how you did the walls!! 🤗😉
Missy Won't reply to negativity!! I’ve watched some other videos on counter replacements and a lot of people sand the area so the adhesive has something to grab onto. Then make sure you clean the surface well to prevent any bumps or air pockets.
I enjoyed how this was a family project and that even your pets are included as well ! It looks stunning and you all should be proud! Beautiful Home You Have Created!
It’s been two years since I wanted to redo my countertop and paining just sounded like a lot of work and I was actually watching videos about that right now to motivate myself to finally paint them but ran into your video. This is a much faster and easier way. I did my floor with these so I’m familiar with them which is a plus. Thank you so much!!
Wow I would have never thought of using floor title for my counter tops! I redid mine a few weeks ago, I got some paint for countertops at lowes and painted mine. Yours look beautiful, great job!
Also, you could put white caulk down the line on the very edge where the side and top meet. Run it over the edge don't worry about the extra that will smear onto the vinyl sticker. Then grab a paper towel and wipe over it all without putting pressure on the gap/line directly. Wipe off any excess on the vinyl and let the caulk dry. Small amount of water on the paper towel makes getting the caulking off places you don't want it easier too. You could do clear, personally I think white would look good. It will help keep any food debris/ bacteria / mold from getting trapped in that thin line. Putting a line of clear caulk around the very edge against the wall helps keep anything water ect from getting trapped and causing damage over time. Learned about all the nooks and crannies water ect can damage a home over time the hard ( and costly ) way, yikes! Great vid and color choices!
Happened upon your channel. One suggestion for anyone considering this, you might want to put the side pieces on first, then you can put the counter top piece over the lip of the side. Would help avoid food getting in the cracks between. Great project....love the outcome!! :)
You are so handy and I’m sure your husband is proud of you saving so much money and the sweetness you show in caring for your family and home. Good job!! Looks so nice.
Beautifully done!!!! I would’ve never imagined using floor tiles.....contact paper yes, but floor tiles??? I’m floored, lol ( no pun intended). I’m fairly new to your channel, and so far I’m loving what I see. Many blessings to you.
I love these DIY videos watching others tear up their houses and putting it all back together again. If I was a bit younger I would tackle my counter tops but I'm afraid I will run out of energy in the middle of a project or worse drop dead and leave my poor husband who doesn't have a handyman mentality with a half baked kitchen. He would surely drop dead shortly thereafter. Your countertop looks lovely
I really enjoyed watching this video. I loved the before counter tops. But after the transformation! I'm in love with the new counter tops!!! Thank you to the entire family. GREAT TEAM WORK 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Hello, I have been a silent follower for some years now, this video inspired me to do my kitchen countertop and I am loving it. I am now watching your new kitchen makeover to see what else I can implement on a budget and I will be documenting them on my channel as well for memories. Thank you for all you do.
AWESOME JOB... I AM RUNNING TO HOME DEPOT! I WOULD HAVE NEVER "THUNK" TO USE FLOOR TILES BUT THIS IS GREAT. I HAVE THE OPTION TO CHANGE THEM OVER TIME. BETTER THAN PAINTING A FAUX MARBLE WHICH I HAD PLANNED ON DOING! NICELY DONE DIVA!
How perfect! I just redid my kitchen, doing a CD back splash which came out great. I wanted a more white counter tops and can't find laminate and was just about to paint and epoxy when I came across this video. This is great! I'm going to go look and see what Lowes has that I can't live without. Thank you for posting this.
Oh my goodness! I did this with all my kitchen cabinet shelving but never even considered doing the countertops! Love this. Will look into doing a floor tile search for my countertops. Thanks for the video. Awesome.
Aliiyle advice to you others who have this project in mind. I have done few like that already ... Floor professionals use weighted rubber roller to secure tiles , edges and joints. You can use pastry roller pressing it down firmly. Another thing..Doing steps cover I have learned that edges need extra glue and SANDING DOWN because they are sharp like raisor. This would apply to your edging . Personally I would just paint with melamine to match the tiles.
Your budget kitchen transformation is phenomenal. It just looks so pretty! That brick wall had to be a lot of work, but wow, what an impact. Great job!
Good for you❣️I know exactly where I need to do this, in my goat milking room in my little barn. It’s just a piece of wood on my prep area and I need it to be something I can clean up more easily. Thanks.
Love this! My Mom and I used these tiles on her work bench in her garage - we used some addtl adhesive when sticking them down and these have lasted us now for almost 20 years! We were SO proud of ourselves, as it was one of our first home improvement projects together and it still looks amazing!
nice job! i did the same thing in my bathroom a few years ago when i re-did the the sub-flooring, i had some tiles almost identical to yours left over from the floor so i just used them to cover a small counter between my sink and doorway. great minds think alike, now I'm tossing around doing the same thing in my outdated kitchen ...
The priorities were, keep coffee maker on, start dinner in slow cooker, keep stress levels low so dad is amiable to helping and congratulate son for working so hard. Great job all around mom.
We did this about 8-10 yrs ago with black marble look tiles. Looked great at the time and was durable. Like you it's time to lighten/brighten things up. Still on a tight budget. Might do this again but newer color. Thanks for the video.
I’ve seen contact paper but never floor tiles, great idea! I personally would like try doing this with the sticky wood plank tiles that I have seen as I love the rustic wood look or I wouldn’t mind the square tiles but in a diagonal pattern. :)
One suggestion would have been to have NOT lined up the seams on the front edge. Like laying sod, the seam lines needed to be offset. Other than that, the project looks pretty good.
Use Loctite marine sealant instead of caulking. Great stuff . Beware it’s hard to use and takes patience . You must clean it off your skin fast . I use industrial goof off . Great stuff ! You will never have a leak ruin .
I am blown away by this idea, your new counters looks great, so much better than the dark ones. I don't know if a heat gun would have helped soften the glue for the removal of the old ones, but would be worth a try next time around.
Wow!! Great job!! I would never, in a million years, thought about using floor tile. I think that the lighter color looks much, much better than the darker color. It matches your wall and cabinets. Very nice job.
GENIUS! Funny thing is we bought the same self adhesive tiles for our floor. Now Im gonna go back to Home Depot and get another pack for our countertop to match. Thank goodness I didnt buy any contact paper. This idea is way better! So glad I clicked this video lol 🙌🏼🙌🏼 GREAT JOB! 👍🏼👍🏼
I had them on my floor too - but it would be too much on floor and countertops so i bought plain white... which im still working on - didnt like the white....
I love what you did. Floor tiles on countertops is a wonderful and durable solution. I have a very small kitchen with granite counters and I do not want to cover then up but the cabinets are awful. My kids broke 2 doors off before we lived here 1 year. We are going back and forth on whether we should rip out old cabinets and put in new ones in or try to fix the old cabinets. I don’t really know how to fix all the problems but if I did, I could save 10k on new ones. The cabinets are thick with paint, don’t close too well because of too much paint and are really ugly.
II would never of thought to do sticky tiles. I have the ugliest counter tops in texas so i'm definitely going to do this this weekend!!!! Thanks for your brilliant idea!!!!
Am new to your channel and so far enjoyed watching, one wee tip you should have used a iron on the tiles to melt the glue on the back, I have them on my kitchen floor...good work looks fab..x
We have been checking out different types of a cabinet technique we can afford and I am in awe of this idea. It has never occurred to me to use this product of the kitchen counters. YES! We are going with this for the kitchen and bathrooms. Now we need to figure out what to do with the tub / shower liberglass product and how to paint it.

This was simple, inexpensive and did not require power tools. I will definitely be giving this a try. Thank you.
I'm so glad ive found your channel. Finally somebody that remodels cheaply and my style.
Yup, not that pretentious and expensive mode that some folks embrace!
A word of advice, heating the tiles totally helps. With a blow dryer or iron, low setting and of course a heavy piece of fabric over the tile.
Is this for adding or removal
Here is a tip to get a better edge. Do the front edge first! The lighter tiles made a big difference! New subscriber. I love DIYs! Thanks for sharing!
I agree! I love the lighter look! Thanks for watching!

Very satisfied.

@@DorsettDoorstep I think they sell the aluminum in rolls with a sticky back so maybe that is something your can use.
@@evelyntobias8081 yes, it is called contact paper! ; )
Lol, a woman after my own heart! Who says you can’t start a kitchen project and cook using the same counter you’re redoing!

I love the realness of her video and her real life... dishes in the sink, kid with no shirt helping=😍😍😍

@tmmercier67 When you moved out were you able to remove them & reserve the actual counter tops?
Very smart idea, I never thought of the floor tiles. I was going to paint mine but, you gave me a better idea. Thank you 🙏💝
Well I’ve found my kitchen counter redo! I was about to hire someone but I can do this myself!! Thank you for this! I’m impressed and amazed!
I did the exact same thing in my little makeshift kitchen in my shop., Same tiles too. I used doors as the countertops. I love it!!! So easy.
"Goo Gone" would probably help with the sticky residue. (For anyone else wanting to try this) That stuff is amazing!
Love this DIY! 👌
You have an exceptionally strong design sense. This is absolutely vital when choosing to use extremely low cost materials. BRAVO!
