I feel like this song needs to be heard today and everyday because of our current conflicts around the globe. This is such a beautiful melody and sentiment. I hope the new children of tomorrow may still have dreams to share and adventures to take.
It's been pretty impactful since its release in 90. I was 12 when it premiered on MTV (back when mtv was actually *music television* 😉) although I've not yet heard the updated lyric version that Scorpions now perform.
I am old, I am german ... the pictures you saw ... I was there! ... I always have tears in my ears/eyes, when I hear this song. A song of hope! *peace ♥
Song is about the fall of the Soviet Union and the fall of the Berlin wall. Now, it seems, those wall are going back up. We all need this song especially now.
Today's youth did not experience the Cold War between the NATO countries and the Soviet Bloc. This song came out as the Soviet Union was collapsing, and the two Germanies reunified and became one Germany. This song was so emotional, so hopeful, for a world that was changing.
Boomer here who grew up during the Cold War. I visited both West and East Berlin in May 1988, thinking I’d never see the Berlin Wall come down in my lifetime. 18 months later, people were dancing atop the wall and tearing it down with pickaxes and their bare hands. My first reaction was, “They’ll be shot!” But no. In a moment, it seemed, everything had changed. It was a beautiful, thrilling moment that I’ll never forget.
We had so much hope when the iron curtain fell. I was in the U.S. Army at the time and it was like we were all brothers and sisters. It hurts my soul to see how it’s all become divided again. We had a chance, I don’t think we will get another in my lifetime. This song alway reminds me of that special moment.
the history is about Germany and the fall of the Berlin wall but more importantly, about the end to all wars. They are a German band so it would be heavily referenced by them seeing as they were together as a band and played through that time period.
Whistling as an instrument proven again to be a huge add to a song. This song is magical and transports you despite the subject being war. I will always be thankful to the Scorpions for releasing such an epic song.......
A significant song for a German band like the Scorpions. A song about the reunification of Germany. Being able to reunite with lsot family and friends.after many years of oppression under the Soviet boot of retaliation after WWII. A song of freedom and brotherhood.
Quintessential 80's bruv I think we take for granted how great this music is because we grew up with it. To see a new generation embrace and enjoy it is truly a beautiful thing.
The fall of the Berlin wall was such a happy time for the western world, I still have to fight back literal tears every time I see and hear this video.. especially in light of what western governments have become since. I was in 10th grade #GenX
I’m from Wales, went to watch the wall come down. I still have my piece of the wall. We were so full of hope & love. But here we are in a world with way too many wars 😢 I still choose HOPE & LOVE! Great reaction as always xx
When I was a youngin, my dad was stationed at Checkpoint Charlie on the wall...I have a photo of him relieving himself on the wall and giving his russian shadow the finger...he brought home a chunk of the wall from when it came down plus a ton of Polish Solidarity stuff...cool shit, breh!
Scorpions have a pretty diverse catalogue. You won't be able to pin down a "characteristic" sound style for them, because they don't have one. They just make music, and are much less concerned with the marketability of a consistent sound. Keep in mind, they've been going since 1965 (and are still recording and doing shows today). So these guys are right up there with the Beatles and the Stones. Most of their early songs are about Sex and Love, with a few exceptions sprinkled in, but that only continued into the mid 1980s, and everything after that has been a crapshoot, the subject could be anything. Since vocalist Klause joined in the late 70s, (he's the singer on all their studio albums), they have been regarded for rock ballads, but that is by no means all they do. Notable songs: "Bad Boys Running Wild" (put them on the map) "Rock You Like A Hurricane" (their most famous) "Animal Magnetism" (most commonly cited by other musicians) "The Future Never Dies" (Best live recording, not overdubbed) "The Zoo" (A fan Favorite) "Humanity" (Revitalized the band with younger audiences) "Rock Believer" (that one came out less than 18 months ago). "Love is the Answer" - MTV Unplugged (Hear the band founder, Rudy, sing... yes, they have two accomplished singers, even if you normally only hear the one). The band however will celebrate their 60th anniversary next year, so their discography is massively larger than this, many hundreds of songs. Also tons of guest appearances on other artist's albums as well. I especially like the track Klause recorded with Avantasia. They are, by far, one of the most influential rock bands ever. They make everyone's top-10 list for most influential bands, along side The Stones, ACDC, Skynyrd, Zepplin, etc.
The guitarist is Rudolph Schenker, who formed the band in 1965. Things did not come together till 1970 when the singer Klaus Mein and Rudolf's younger brother, Michael (15 years old) joined the band. Two amazing and ground breaking guitarist from same family. Michael Schenker was just 16 when The Scorpions recorded their debut album in 1972, but Michael left in 1973 to join UFO (another band you need to check out). He did briefly return to The Scorpions in 1978 before forming his own band, MSG (Michael Schenker Group). UFO's live double album is amazing! Need to listen "Rock Bottom" live.😊
Scorpions is such a beautiful band to listen too. No props or fancy stage just pure beauty 😘 I love how you feel so much when you listen to the music of the past ❤️
We were stationed in Wiesbaden WEST GERMANY when the Cold War ended and got to celebrate with out German neighbors and my German coworkers. It was an amazing AMAZING time to be living there. Great reaction !
Yesss - The Scorpions are one of the exports from Germany that have been very successful beyond the country's borders - even in the USA. We are very proud...
@martinsv9183 it's a commercial type of song. He should explore some older Scorpions tunes like The Zoo and Blackout. Hell actually even earlier Scorps than that.
@@metalmaniac1244 If you by "commercial" mean that everyone likes it, then yes. And that's why you start with those types of songs. Instead of doing the same misstake that I predicted with ZZTop.
I served in russian army in 2010-2011, Scorpions was favourie band of my commander and he loved this song. He was born in Kyev. He is good man, he retired from military service in 2011 too. Don't even know what he feels today.
This is a brilliant song. Such an important piece of music that is still relevant today. They played this at Hellfest 2015, and it is absolutely worth a reaction. It's a fantastic rendition and will give you goosebumps. Also should listen to Still Lovin you, it's a great song which they also played at Hellfest and was a great performance.
This song is so emotional. When the wall came down I called my sister (an RN in the ER) and we cried together. Tienamin Square. Berlin Wall separating East and West Berlin during the Cold War. President Reagan said " Mr Gorbachov, tear down this wall!" The end was from the Space Station
Wow I remember being a young mother watching the wall come down on CNN and crying and laughing in shock and happiness. This song still haunts me and reminds me of the relief we all felt when it happened.
THIS SCORPION 'S SONG USED TO MAKE ME CRY 😢 SOOOO MANY AWESOME TRACKS MOLLYBOY!! AWESOME REACTION MOLLYBOY 💙 AND THANK YOU WHOMEVER REQUESTED THIS GEM 💎!! 😊💓🤘✌️ CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN ON YOUR 50K + IS AWESOME!!
I learned to whistle with this song! When I was a kid, on Saturday, I was allowed to watch TV for a bit longer before I had to go to bed. I used to watch a movie and then watched MTV for the last 15, 20 minutes before I had to go to bed. One evening, this song came on and when I heard him whistle in the beginning, I tried to imitate him and somehow, I managed to pull it off! My parents were already asleep, so I had to be quiet but I was so surprised and amazed, I totally forgot about the being quiet part...until I heard _"Shut the fuck up!!!"_ which brought me right back to real life! I went to bed but I was so proud of myself, it took me a while to fall asleep.
Great reaction MollyBoy!! To fully understand this song is to know what was going on at the time! The USSR, Soviet Union as we knew it was falling apart - the Iron Curtain was coming down. Germany was being reunified, the Berlin Wall was being dismantled - Scorpions being from Germany understood the impact of this - families that had been apart for decades were now able to reunite! It was huge - and there was a beautiful feeling of hope! This song was more than just a ballad - it was a love song to the peace that was happening at the time - unfortunately, we need this again - how fragile peace can be! Let's hope a Wind Of Change comes through again! Cheers!
this song makes grown men weep. i'm not sure how much of the song's composition and release timing was a PR stunt. the Scorps, unlike any other german band, had become the "rock ambassadors" of Germany - no other band could've appropriately presented this song. but in hindsight, it doesn't matter. maybe it was really the band that genuinely felt like creating this - they were, after all, among the few that had played behind the Iron Curtain. whatever - what matters are the memories, the magic of the moment, and the beauty of the song. :-)
Yeah, the timing on this was flawless. It was recorded before the wall fell, but only by a few months, and the video was released just after the wall came down. The cracks were starting to show with the Soviet Union, so it was assumed the wall would fall at some point, but nobody knew exactly when (it was kind of a surprise when it finally happened, even if it was seen as inevitable, it really happened fast... kind of by mistake, lol... interesting bit of history there, lol). But there were years of building anticipation leading up to that, which is what the song is really about... not something that had happened, but something that was anxiously anticipated.
You're absolutely right @ "cold war". For us germans in 1989 this song became "THE soundtrack" to the reunification of east and west -germany after 28 years of seperation (fall of the berlin wall / UDSSR. I was only 9 years old but i remember to this day watching the news with my parents showing millions of people celebrating in the streets in tears, crossing the borders tearing down the wall.
This is a song about hope. It is perfectly fine to love it. It is certainly still impactful when you think about it in terms of today’s world, but when these events in the video were happening, it hit even harder. It definitely gave me hope as a teenager. I hope today’s youth in areas under these same things get their chance to hope soon
You are the only reactor to really get this song. Plus when you look up you open yourself to us. Its why I subscribe. First young person I've seen who gets it
The Scorpions - Sails of Charon with their original guitarist Uli Jon Roth is a banger. He is an amazing guitarist, and to think the Scorpions "second guitar player" is still awesome says a lot about the talent in that band.
The very first time I heard this was while watching a Filipino cover band in Singapore. They nailed it, (including the whistle) I had been at sea so didn't get to hear it before that. I LOVE the Scorpions. I rock with them, but this my favorite song. 10/03/2017 Grand Sierra Resort Reno
I remember when this album came out, riding the bus to elementary school 😂 Z104 was the radio station and it takes me back to the smell of the bus seats and diesel fuel exhaust smell😊 good times
Scorpions wrote this about being the first 'western' rock act to play in Russia. The walk to Gorky park was a part of the band's tour. Klaus Meine wrote this as an anthem of hope, and a recollection of their shows in Moscow. I vividly remember sitting in my world history class, senior year of high school, and watching the Berlin wall fall (our teacher had taped the news show from the night before) and our two German exchange students sobbing on each others shoulders as their whole lives changed. I miss the hope that we had in those days.
This song was so prolific during the fears of the Cold War era! I remember when it was released and how important the words and video were; it still to this day, hits me right in the feels ❤❤
This song holds a special place in my heart. Summer of '90 I was 14 running around with friends getting into all kinds of shenanigans met my first girlfriend. It was my teenage summer, and this song was the anthem. Had no idea how much change was coming...
More tears. What a day with you! I can tell you that when I saw the Berlin wall up and then come down... it was very emotional. As for The Scorpions...Blackout should be next. Just good, hard rock.
The sound of the Cold War ending. Truly classic. More than a song, this was us watching the social constructs of the world evolving before our eyes. Now, The Zoo is my favorite Scorpions song.
This song hit nearly everyone, the message seemed to resonate & bring a somewhat “unified” feeling to many in such a way music is capable of. The Scorpions are one of my top ten bands & have some killer tunes, many with wonderful lyrics. Klaus’ vocals are so dang unique & unfortunately often overlooked but he’s got such power there. ……& that whistle….. (I appreciate your honest commentary, it’s refreshing among your generation.) Keep bringing more of these guys, you won’t regret it: my suggestion is “The Zoo”, “Bad Boys Running Wild” & “Loving You Sunday Morning”! 🤘😎
I was 4 when Iron Curtain fall. For me, as a Pole, this song is double emotional especially I remember stories my parents told me about their young life behind the Berlin Wall. Beautiful song.
I feel ya, man. I literally limped thru an 8 hrs shift in the kitchen. Neuropathy and a pulled groin muscle did the trick. Timeless Scorpions song written after the FALL OF THE BERLIN WALL , something that had existed as a DEFINING STRUCTURE OF THE COLD WAR during which I grew up. I was 23 yrs old when the Cold War ended. I was very close to attending the AirForce Academy in 1985 out in Colorado. Right size, right eyesight, and the right interests, Aerospace engineering. Rough days are like rain squalls on your journey; man. Peace!
You are young enough to be my child! I love your channel, I hope you feel more at peace very soon! Your reactions bring back such great memories for me!
The Scorpions album that I feel particularly fond of is Lovedrive. Wind of Chains is a cultural song. It was inspired by changes going on especially in Germany when the Berlin Wall came down. I was a kid so I got to witness it.
Good to see you diving into.the Scorpions Still playing Still Touring Take a deep dive into this German Band ..you will not be disappointed 60s 70s 80s 90s and present 50 yrs of rockn...
You have covered many great 80's bands. Scorpions were one of the best concerts I ever went to. If you want another cold war song, Tesla's Modern Day Cowboy is great. If you like 80's rock guitar shredders Tesla's Love Song will blow you back even further. Enjoy the journey!
The Legend *Scorpions* with the legendary voice of *Klaus Meine* and a legendary song that is timeless, we so need a song of hope and music can do that, bring us all together from all over the world. Great channel and reactions as always, you are awesome 💖🙂👍💯Thank you.
I was lucky enough to see them live in the early 90s in Toronto and they were incredible live . They sounded perfect. ❤ Rock you like a hurricane is a must my friend. Peace out ✌️ ☮️
Scorpions are a great hard rocking band that also threw in softer songs that both men and women could enjoy (some girls don't like heavy rock). You picked two softer ones thar are awesome and make sure to check out the harder stuff too. You'll like it. The Zoo. Blackout, Rock you like a hurricane. No one like you. Big city nights. Other soft melodies that must be heard are Send me an Angel. Holiday. Loving you Sunday morning. All hits! Keep going down that rabbit hole.
This song is special to me, my Oma and Opa (Grandparents) came to the US from Germany (East) the way people had to live over there during that time was very hard. I always remember my grandparents stories when I listen to this. I miss you Oma and Opa 💔
This song always takes me back, first time I heard it I had just gotten my first car and was taking a drive when this song came on the radio, it literally stopped me in my tracks, I actually had to pull over and listen to the guitar solo....that was a long time ago. I'm a middle-aged man now.
I feel like this song needs to be heard today and everyday because of our current conflicts around the globe. This is such a beautiful melody and sentiment. I hope the new children of tomorrow may still have dreams to share and adventures to take.
exactly--still relevant today, and we need another wind of change. Recorded 30+ years ago, but still relevant in 2024.

I was in P7 when I watched the fall of the Berlin Wall on the news on a Sunday. Amazing song too. Still chokes me up all these years later.
For the Scorpions at their best, listen to WORLDWIDE LIVE. All the bangers, played perfectly.
Agreed, one of the best live albums ever! 🤘😎
My first Scorpions song I heard was “ Speedys Coming “ from the mid 70’s. Total Banger !
Congrats on 50k, you are one of my favourite reaction channels. This is such a powerful song. Was an amazing era when this was released, so much hope.
The Scorpions - Sails of Charon with their original guitarist Uli Jon Roth is a banger. He is an amazing guitarist, and to think the Scorpions "second guitar player" is still awesome says a lot about the talent in that band.
It was a wonderful time to watch the wall come down. This song gets me everytime. 🤘🔥🤘🤠
The very first time I heard this was while watching a Filipino cover band in Singapore. They nailed it, (including the whistle) I had been at sea so didn't get to hear it before that.
I LOVE the Scorpions.
I rock with them, but this my favorite song.

I remember when this album came out, riding the bus to elementary school 😂 Z104 was the radio station and it takes me back to the smell of the bus seats and diesel fuel exhaust smell😊 good times
my very first slow dance was to this song... ages ago. Still hits man, it still hits.
Legends and in the day, 1 of the BEST LIVE BANDS EVER...! ( It gives me Chills to this day...) l remember ... lm 54
This song was so prolific during the fears of the Cold War era! I remember when it was released and how important the words and video were; it still to this day, hits me right in the feels ❤❤
This is one of those songs that touches your heart! 💜
Perfect whistle intro...touching and heartfelt 🤘🏽
This song holds a special place in my heart. Summer of '90 I was 14 running around with friends getting into all kinds of shenanigans met my first girlfriend. It was my teenage summer, and this song was the anthem. Had no idea how much change was coming...
More tears. What a day with you! I can tell you that when I saw the Berlin wall up and then come down... it was very emotional. As for The Scorpions...Blackout should be next. Just good, hard rock.
They had a bunch of great songs - Rock You Like A Hurricane, Rhythm Of Love, The Zoo, No One Like You, Still Loving You are just a few good ones!
The symbolism and representation of this song makes me cry everytime
Brilliant choice ❤😊
The Scorpions album that I feel particularly fond of is Lovedrive. Wind of Chains is a cultural song. It was inspired by changes going on especially in Germany when the Berlin Wall came down. I was a kid so I got to witness it.
Every song on lovedrive, my favorite scorpions album, is a banger
Good to see you diving into.the Scorpions
Still playing
Still Touring
Take a deep dive into this German Band ..you will not be disappointed
60s 70s 80s 90s and present
50 yrs of rockn...
Great channel and reactions as always, you are awesome 💖🙂👍💯Thank you.
saw this live, in Australia. An awesomely powerful song. Great concert.
I was lucky enough to see them live in the early 90s in Toronto and they were incredible live . They sounded perfect. ❤ Rock you like a hurricane is a must my friend. Peace out ✌️ ☮️
Great music will never die.
No one like you, in trance, loving you Sunday morning, Arizona, all bangers.
Have seen them live 3 times, even met them. Cool guys and they put on an amazing show!
Congrats on 50k matey. 🥳 Scorpions do loads of songs like "Still Loving You". They are superb at rock power ballads.
I love you being a rap fan opening up to rock and metal.
You had a very genuine reaction to this song. Thank you.
Scorpions...my first real metal band that caught my attention at 14 years old...they still sound great over 40 years later! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
This song always takes me back, first time I heard it I had just gotten my first car and was taking a drive when this song came on the radio, it literally stopped me in my tracks, I actually had to pull over and listen to the guitar solo....that was a long time ago. I'm a middle-aged man now.
