Hi, thanks for watching! I drew the reference images. But you can go to Google Images and search for "character sheet" or "mug shot." You can find a lot of great front and side views of all kinds of characters.
@Ralpimp09 Well, these images are a character of mine for a project I'm working on. But you can Google "mug shot" and find front and side views of all kinds interesting people.
So you were selecting the centre vertices on your front view...but moving them left using your side view?.... mind has just actually been blown. Thanks for that!
Your technique here is something i will run with thru my career. I started with the pseudo anime kid and i loved it, since i started blender 2018. I got the front face right the first time. However, the back of the head is killing me. Pls help somebody!!
I'm sorry but i'm still a blender noob and i'm just wondering is this the easiest way to create edge/face loops because i've been searching all over the web and am just getting frustrated because all the tutorials are so long and go on and on and never really answer that question or I no longer have the patience to watch them so if you would be so kind and help me out I would really appreciate it :D thanks so much
Hey man this is a really cool vid, easily the best one i've found on youtube for modeling a head. I have a question if you don't mind - why do you start with a plane, subdivide it, mirror it and delete half? Is that something that aids you in creating the edge loops and ensuring that they are clean for rigging? I am having a few troubles with rigging my head model because of strange vertex edge problems and I end up spending too much time fixing stuff. Thanks
This is REALLY impressive. After you created the 2d mesh, you go to the side view and drag out the vertices and place them. How did you know which vertices to grab and where to place them?
There isn't enough info here for the Blender beginner to follow. For instance, I have no idea how to set up the simultaneous front and side views and have the plane facial template in the correct position. That is kind of essential for using this technique.
VERY Nice!! congratulations im from peru im just starting learning 3ds max and practicing i sow you tutorial its easy and good results,. Thanks for post it help me a lot in my edge loops look for. sorry my english not well
I was wondering, how would I knwo if my references are properly aligned? My side orth never matches with my front. I have Photoshop but learning how to use it. thinking maybe I could use guides to make sure certain features like eyes, nose etc match? but the reference images I have been using they look like they du until I am extruding, so maybe there reference images the smoothed there mesh?
Man this is the best technique I've seen so far for head modeling, thanks
yjis is the BEST face modeling I've ever watched :)
Very good explanation of fundamentals. I was really struggling with this, so thank you
This has aged incredibly well! Also, it's horrifying to see Blender 2.49. I remember it well. (shudder)
stop
Thanks! It sounds like you need to select the four verts around the hole and press F to created a polygon.
I don't think anything I've done has ever been called sublime. Thank you so much!!

@Blender3dvids There is more to come in the next week or two. Please stay tuned! : )
Great explanation! This will make my moddeling much easier!
@Blender3dvids Select two verts and press Alt + M
there was a few times i thought i was listening to john malkovich
@Ralpimp09 Sure, in fact it may even be easier without subsurf.
For a completed 3D model, try TurboSquid
@Ralpimp09 Thanks! Yes, I used both set smooth and subsurf
