Wasili Novratidis It's not cheating. ;) Daniel Kreuter Very interesting approach.Even though you have all main loops, it's weird to see that you don't create all of them before you create rest of the geometry. Well done.
Toni Tuomikallio lol, thats not what i meant. Daniellemade an tutorial on modelling an anime char. The reference pics he used where handdrawn by him. Besides i use the same technique and post a lot of reference anime pics on the g+ 3d anime forrum.
Fotus Knight I'm just getting into modeling characters and stuff. I understand how it works, but I want to learn the best ways to model so that character models don't have deformations during animations. The only other thing that makes it somewhat difficult is knowing shortcuts in Blender. I am a game designer/programmer and I have spent most of my time in Unity. I've only ever used Blender for simple cutscenes. I'm excited to start learning more.
For modeling faces it's best to know locations of T and N poles and what your loops focus, nose, mouse, and 2 eyes. or if u want to copy then remember how many loop edges there are like 22mouth -20 eyes for pixar. Like what this video shows, especially take note of the poles below the mouth the have the quads evenly distributed under the chin for the best deformation in animating. May i ask if you can do a possible vertex nurb curve facial rigging and animation tutorial video Daniel ? like how they do it in maya but in blender as i have yet to learn this.
I know you're speaking english, but I'm here looking at that text like: "what?" Just started blender modeling, figured I'd comment a joke from a newbie... haven't quite gotten to character modelling yet, but I excel at scene and object modeling... can't wait to get confident enough with blender to finally be able to accomplish something like this
I was modeling child face yesterday for many hours.. I am just beginner but spent already like 70 hours in blender very intensive. You doing some things which would help me with my modeling I have just no idea how you do it :D pity
Meu Blender o ZOOM do SCROOL do Mouse, para por a imagem bem próxima OU TÁ BUGADA, OU TÁ MAL CONFIGURADA!! POIS ELE APROXIMA NO COMEÇO, ATÉ QUE CHEGA O MOMENTO EM QUE ELA NÃO APROXIMA MSM!! SERÁ SE SUA SABEDORIA PODERIA ME AJUDAR??
Is this type of box modeling still being used? Isn't every head sculpted and retopo'ed now? Kind of like "do it in zbrush" than port to blender kind of deal.
2 years later i know but some people answered me on videos that are 5 years old aswell :D , how long does texturing work for such a complicated mesh ? Im modeling and learning since a wheek so im a nooby didnt even touch charachters yet
its very awesome and important to me. i hope its not timelapse :( i hope in your next videos you make a tutorial about modeling technique like this but cartoon style head (ex. disney character)
I want to learn how to model characters for Garry's Mod... so... I'm here. I'm hoping to be able to use the models in Pac3. Literally the only reason why I'm here...
I'm not very confident with them yet and it's hard to let go of habits... I'll definitely do more sculpting in the future but I will need to practice a lot. thanks for the recommendation
I use the move tool of the sculpt to tweak my wire, it's faster than move point by point and more acurate than the proportionnal editing. You can also use the smooth brush to smooth the wire and the standard brush to push surfaces. It's modeling with the sculpt tool, not really sculpting. ^^ The F2 addon allow you to create a face by selecting only one vertice, no need to extrude and fill the face, it's faster ;) Look about that, i'm sure you will like it ;)
I am sorry, according to the link you find reference to the map, which has 404 images, all hung up, could you please share this with reference to FIG what it ~
i never tried to create a head from side view,is it possible to create from just Box?,it looks like retopology, only extruding sides of the polygon edges.
Not impossible, just can be a bit fiddly when you want to extrude etc. Best to either start with a vertex or plane and go from there. But it is possible anyway - it's up to you how you start your project.
Looks so nice, but its hard. ANd theres always that non satisfation cuz tis a simple thing, always looks weird, cuz its not sculpted, yours is nice but mine UGH SAD
When working with the ear overlay, is it possible to just save an ear model or shapoe set that you have made seperate and just import, incase you are trying to quickly throw something together or you are just modeling a ear that is to be covered?
Jordan Williams I don't know if you have figured it out already, or if someone else has given advice, but if you select the whole ear in edit mode, press P to separate by selection, then duplicate the ear, then save the ear as a separate file you can import it into other projects
Tips for anyone trying to do humans, hard surface aka not sculpting is terrible for doing complex organic shapes. If humans and characters is what you want to do, get into sculpting.
As great as your work is, I had to slow it down to the slowest setting to watch it. Also, it would have been nice to hear you talk your way through it. I am new to this... although I do digital graphics and artwork, I have just begun to delve into the world of 3D.
Teodor Velichkov You can make a somewhat decent head after about 3-4 months; Being able to do it on the fly like this in two hours probably takes years.
michael is 100% correct, except: Maya is a stupid, glitchy, pile of poo. 8 months of restarting every project 20x and you will be this fast. my favourite feature in Maya is the crash-on-save feature. still haven't figured out how to un-tick that box.
Emily Kincaid Depth is likely Done by switching back and forth between side and front views. Alot of times people will just make a part two dimensional and then grab and scale the edge loops to provide depth. Curve is a guess that you get better at making over time that you can approximate by looking at lighting. This is just my experience the artist in the video might do it another way.
i've just started learning modeling the head but your workflow and topology is amazing.
THIS is the best edge loop tutorial i found on internet . perfectly optimized for basic details. the thing i like no nonsense talks in background.
This is the best and definitive tutorial on the whole internet.
I used to discard past projects. Now I keep them as reminders of my progression.
I've uploaded a time-lapse video of one of my short practice projects.
Take a look if you're interested in my way to approach it.
Oh you used a real photo. Expected some reference material from yourself.
Wasili Novratidis
well, photos are more realistic than my drawings after all :)
It's a good practice I believe.
Do you always go so dense in your poly count so early?
Wasili Novratidis
It's not cheating. ;)

Thanks for sharing your workflow. I like how you used a quad only mesh, it obvious you know topology very well.
That was like... edge loop porn
Sculpt mode? Never heard of that
and heres where i throw away my past projects
Dont ... do .. that
Please don’t focus on other’s skills, just focus on your own.
daaaammn daniel back at it again with the blender timeleapses

The topology is Perfect !
EARS man...... Sooooo hard
Mine look like the default cube lol
That ear had me on the edge of my seat!
A very detailed construction you've got there. Nice :)

Awesome looks like a mask and if you use 3D printer you can wear what you drew. This is why i love 3D
dude! I have to keep working on my skills... a total noob here... but this is a sick demonstration!! Thank You!
Wow so easy you did it! Specially the ear. Oh my!
Was like watching a spider build it's web. Thanks for sharing, super helpful
wow! you are a master, the video it's too fast but you can learn alot from it. I love the way You fix the topology.
This helped for learning basic things
i created a replica of the reference image. not as good but hope it will do
imgur*com/a/BQ5Sy (replace * with .)
u know, u could have added a background music instead of plain timelapse!
* Watches this video *
* looks at default blender cube *
* looks back at the Video *
What the fuck
Just if someone can answer me this, when he selects the faces he just made by looping he is just relaxing them with the looptools relax isn't he?
I wish I could model this well.
Nice topology.. No no no, AWOSOME topology!
No, it's wrong topo... U can search other channels
You have left a pentagon in the eye region on the outter part close to the eye
only 2 hours ? wow good job
I wished I could like it more than once...
So no head?
I was modeling child face yesterday for many hours.. I am just beginner but spent already like 70 hours in blender very intensive. You doing some things which would help me with my modeling I have just no idea how you do it :D pity
This video makes it look so easy, then i try and it isn't! lol
This vid helped a lot thx :D
when I mirror i can't see the vertexes! HELP?!
isnt this blenderellas way of modelling :D

last move leave a triangle haha :D
here the reference image forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=737252
thanks for your great videos
***** Thanks for helping those who are interested in getting the reference images easily! Much appreciated :)
i cant open the reference image
Amazing!
I have anxiety. I'm being self taught and I forgot how to mirror, my mirror isn't working. I don't get how you can just start the eyes that way.
I like to make character from my mind
Awesome job at all
Same

Wow. I better stay away from the 3D world.
impressive
Where do I find images to use as planes? Google images doesn't seem to help

Once i did one very nice following a tutorial
Great Work! :)
hi sir are you interest in mlb 2k12 edit cyberface please help thankyou so much in blender
could you make a custom model for me?
Do you take commissions for doing this from my reference photo in very low poly count? (for a low poly mask 3d print)

2 hours modeling, 25% of it is just the ear :~
Do you have a Tutorial on this???
参考になりました。
Прекрасно сделано :)

I MADE THE FAST 0.25
AND IT IS STILL SUPER FAST
BUT IT IS HELPFUL THANKS
Well damn.......never realized exactly how much work goes into things like this..........how long did this actually take you?
It took 2h
Can I get that reference image?
As great as your work is, I had to slow it down to the slowest setting to watch it. Also, it would have been nice to hear you talk your way through it. I am new to this... although I do digital graphics and artwork, I have just begun to delve into the world of 3D.
The small areas intimidate one
nice one. pure handcraft.
a good starting point for that kind of work might be makehuman dot org if you dont know it yet, daniel?
Why couldn't you make the reference available for download??
How much experience you have to make this dude ? But it is cool

how do you determine depth and curve?

What screencasting software are you using?
where you got photo?
reference image actor in korea. very funny. she is name moon geun young.
are you sure?
znews-photo-td.zadn.vn/w1024/Uploaded/ycgmvvbt/2014_01_02/moongeunyoung.jpg
i need my model
1:35 green lantern
Turm off that damn arrows and your life became easier
Where do you get your references from?
please sent to me file 3dmax?
This is fantastic! Nearly every blender video I find is a time lapse. Why are they often like that?
rabid padme because blender is complicated and hard
hay!... Its ET
Bad tophology stop me at nose and ears 😂
? ??? Race?
Its to fast :(
Very fast demonstration. So it is not understable
please slow
you can slow it down with the speed adjuster in your player
Where is there reference from?
