    I've uploaded a time-lapse video of one of my short practice projects.
    Take a look if you're interested in my way to approach it.

      well, photos are more realistic than my drawings after all :)
      It's a good practice I believe.

      It's not cheating. ;)
      Daniel Kreuter Very interesting approach.Even though you have all main loops, it's weird to see that you don't create all of them before you create rest of the geometry. Well done.

      Toni Tuomikallio lol, thats not what i meant. Daniellemade an tutorial on modelling an anime char. The reference pics he used where handdrawn by him. Besides i use the same technique and post a lot of reference anime pics on the g+ 3d anime forrum.

     Fotus Knight I'm just getting into modeling characters and stuff. I understand how it works, but I want to learn the best ways to model so that character models don't have deformations during animations. The only other thing that makes it somewhat difficult is knowing shortcuts in Blender. I am a game designer/programmer and I have spent most of my time in Unity. I've only ever used Blender for simple cutscenes. I'm excited to start learning more.

    For modeling faces it's best to know locations of T and N poles and what your loops focus, nose, mouse, and 2 eyes. or if u want to copy then remember how many loop edges there are like 22mouth -20 eyes for pixar. Like what this video shows, especially take note of the poles below the mouth the have the quads evenly distributed under the chin for the best deformation in animating.
    May i ask if you can do a possible vertex nurb curve facial rigging and animation tutorial video Daniel ? like how they do it in maya but in blender as i have yet to learn this.

      Just started blender modeling, figured I'd comment a joke from a newbie... haven't quite gotten to character modelling yet, but I excel at scene and object modeling... can't wait to get confident enough with blender to finally be able to accomplish something like this

    Nice, why don't you use F2 addon and sculpt tool to tweak your model ?

    • @DanielKreuter
      @DanielKreuter  10 років тому

      I'm not very confident with them yet and it's hard to let go of habits... I'll definitely do more sculpting in the future but I will need to practice a lot. thanks for the recommendation

    • @pitiwazou
      @pitiwazou 10 років тому +5

      I use the move tool of the sculpt to tweak my wire, it's faster than move point by point and more acurate than the proportionnal editing. You can also use the smooth brush to smooth the wire and the standard brush to push surfaces. It's modeling with the sculpt tool, not really sculpting. ^^ The F2 addon allow you to create a face by selecting only one vertice, no need to extrude and fill the face, it's faster ;) Look about that, i'm sure you will like it ;)

    i never tried to create a head from side view,is it possible to create from just Box?,it looks like retopology,only extruding sides of the polygon edges.

    • @SoujiMonaru
      @SoujiMonaru 6 років тому

      Not impossible, just can be a bit fiddly when you want to extrude etc. Best to either start
      with a vertex or plane and go from there. But it is possible anyway - it's up to you how you
      start your project.

    When working with the ear overlay, is it possible to just save an ear model or shapoe set that you have made seperate and just import, incase you are trying to quickly throw something together or you are just modeling a ear that is to be covered?

    • @itsmikedgaming
      @itsmikedgaming 9 років тому +4

      Jordan Williams I don't know if you have figured it out already, or if someone else has given advice, but if you select the whole ear in edit mode, press P to separate by selection, then duplicate the ear, then save the ear as a separate file you can import it into other projects

    • @longpinkytoes

      michael is 100% correct, except:
      Maya is a stupid, glitchy, pile of poo. 8 months of restarting every project 20x and you will be this fast.
      my favourite feature in Maya is the crash-on-save feature. still haven't figured out how to un-tick that box.

  • @larogue100
    @larogue100 7 років тому

    how do you determine depth and curve?

    • @michaelsteinberg3272
      @michaelsteinberg3272 7 років тому +1

      Emily Kincaid Depth is likely Done by switching back and forth between side and front views. Alot of times people will just make a part two dimensional and then grab and scale the edge loops to provide depth. Curve is a guess that you get better at making over time that you can approximate by looking at lighting. This is just my experience the artist in the video might do it another way.
