ebay you forgot ebay. It is like the best place to get used instruments. Also tromba and pbone are good plastic instruments but pampet is terrible and they make unusable trumpets that are practically bugles. Personaly plastic will be better for the new instruments from the 50-200$ range. Used is different though you can pick up a used yamaha clarinet for like 150$ in decent condition and like a decent yamaha trumpet like a ytr 136 that comes in silver for like 160$ and a trombone for like 150 on a bid and flutes are the cheapest for like 100$
Can you leave the link to this specific trombone so I can try it because I tried looking for it but I couldn't find it all I found were some 100 dollar ones

Aww, thanks! I've really started to enjoy teaching the younger ages over the years. We've had some amazing beginning band classes the past few years that makes teaching them a ton of fun. They all seem to put up with me too 😂

the production quality on this video is actually crazy. i was super surprised when i looked at the subscriber count and it was under 100 thousand. keep going man!! I can tell you'll make it!!
I've had a plastic trombone (red pBone) for the last 2 years. The main reasons why I use it is that I play in a marching band, and it's lighter, less fragile and warms up a lot faster. The pBone is 2.5x more expensive than this one. The slide is actually very scratchy at the beginning, but it's got smoother over time (not as smooth as the brass trombone, though). I generally use it with a metal mouthpiece because I find the sound is better. However, when I play to several hours in a row, or out in the cold, I prefer the plastic mouthpiece which is more comfortable. The tuning slide slides too much, so I has to stuck a teflon thread between the slide and the body. All in all, the sound is not as good as a brass trombone, you have to blow harder, but it's definitely worth it. But for the orchestra, I keep my heavy fragile brass Yamaha
I agree, I think if trombone is your main instrument, and for how cheap they are there really isn't any reason not to have a plastic trombone at some point. Different tools for different needs.

You may already know this, but “Tromba” is the Italian word for trumpet..they also make plastic trumpets..”Trombone” is also an Italian word-it means “big trumpet”….
I played a plastic C trumpet on my senior trumpet recital and I actually enjoyed the warmer sound and consistent intonation I got with the plastic trumpet. I played a piece called the storyteller and it was probably the best piece on my recital. I almost feel like the plastic instruments are better at controlling your tone on and don’t let you get that “blast” tone as easy so they are almost better for the newest beginners as it’s easier to get a “good” tone and they stay in tune no matter the temperature so they are also a shout for marching band use. I might buy the plastic trombone just for a fun instrument at some point to mess around with.
I've yet to try a plastic trumpet, but I'd like to. Plastic instruments are really nice for when marching band creeps into October and it starts to get really cold. Hard not to enjoy a fully functional instrument at $65.
I'd like to see you polish up the metal on the inner slide stockings with inexpensive automotive polish or something. Additionally, I would like to how it responds to slide cream (Yamaha Trombone Slide Lubricant is a personal fave). Lastly, I wish we could see how the plastic bone, and mouthpieces respond to loud playing for instances like in a marching band. Great video, hope your channel gets bigger. Keep up the good work! :)
Thank you for this video. I have been thinking of an experiment i want to try. And now it is a go. I am going to frankenstein together a trombone with a sax or clarinet mouthpiece to make a slide saxobone. Best to you.

They do make carbon fiber trombones. Just about every part of the horn can be carbon fiber except the stockings of the slide, and any rotor valves that might be attached. Butler is the main company behind them and they sound great. Super popular to get an outer sleeve done for a lightweight slide. Ive noticed the full horns are popular amongst the older amateur crowd. When playing trombone isnt everyday and you have disposable income, a carbon fiber horn makes a lot of sense!
I might get one! The finish got me. I play in a community marching band (Big Easy Easton Brass) and I'm all in favor of ditching my heavy baritone sax for something like this. Fortunately (or not!) I play both.
I was scared the red was going to look cheesy, but I actually like it quite a bit haha. I definitely wouldn't want to march with a bari sax. I spent my freshman year of high school marching the largest bass drum, so I'm no stranger to back pain from lugging around huge instruments.

Plastic would be good for Mardi Gras parades in New Orleans. It also might be good for a first year student to see if they are going to stick with trombone or switch to another low brass instrument, or saxophone.
I love your vids ❤ As a Trombone player, when you’re putting it together do not put the bell on the table. Put it on its side because the bell could fall. Hope this helped!
I’m liking this, great quality for a smaller channel, it’ll go far. As somebody who taught themself trombone (I play euphonium so it’s not the hardest thing), my first trombone was a crappy and heavily dented straight tenor like yours, and my tone was a bit questionable at first, it’s just that practice, and not using my beyond abused trombone. I’m now realizing how bad I typed this.
I never did band but i have been experimenting with making my own instruments recently, even my quickly thrown together prototype instruments managed a sound similar to a clarinet and i made a section of pipe sound like a horn, from my experimenting you xan get similar results with so many different materials and shapes it would be insane if a company didnt get a passable instrument at a 50-100$ price point.
Ok the subscribe button with the times signature and the treble clef and bar lines is so cool. As a fellow percussionist, so im glad to have a UA-camr I can rely on👍👍👍
I picked up a pbone when I was student teaching. It was nice, but in the end it stays at my parent’s place to play at community bands when visiting. I picked up a pbone mini though just for the ability to learn alto trombone on the cheap. That being said they will not replace my $4000 Yamaha bass trombone, but they’re not as bad as some people say. I would say if you ever get to check out a f attachment plastic trombone I would. It is not to bad. The rotor is a bit slow. I went with Tiger because it has a metal lead pipe that helps warm the sound slightly. Still doesn’t replace a brass horn, but it is a little closer. No much different than a fiberglass sousaphone and a metal one. Still different, but not bad.
If you want a plastic trombone, get a pBone. Have one of the originals, played it for a couple years, it's great. Doesn't have the same feedback as a brass horn but it's really hard to tell from a disance. Just get a different mouthpiece and it will match any King 606 or Yamaha 354, the included mouthpiece is bad lol. I play a 3B and a 6B duo gravis regularly now, but I wouldn't hesitate to play a pBone.
I was expected like a normal music stand was i was pretty surprised you got one of those sitting stands to rest instruments. Tbh only learned about them or know they are supplied well in the band room 😅
I love these cheap instrument reviews. Im 16 and i play bass guitar, lead guitar, tuba, euphonium, piano, clarinet, bassoon, trombone, bass clarinet, trumpet, and flute. Bass guitar is my main instrument. Been playing it for 8 years. Please make a cheap bass guitar or cheap tuba review video.
Bass guitar would be a great one, as I don't actually own one myself yet even though I have multiple guitars for some reason... Tuba on the other hand...I have a feeling that the cheapest tuba would still be really expensive 😂. I'll have to work my way up to that one :p
I played trombone for 4 years in band, which was almost 20 years ago now. As nice as this plastic one sounds, surprisingly, I feel like for a student it's more or less just a decent home practice instrument, but I wouldn't have ever brought this thing to school. Band kids get a lot of flak in general from other kids, they don't need to be made fun of by other band kids to, js. 😂 Not that I am even sure my band director would have even allowed it.
Years ago, I found myself a Single Rotor Bass Trombone online for under $200. One of my Coworkers in the Navy had been looking over sheet music in the office trying to figure out why the piece they were playing sounded off at one part. I had to ask him if anyone was playing the bass part, noone was. The pedal note in the piece, so I ordered myself a new bass and joined them for a while. Kept that horn for years, my daughter used it in band, then broke is multiple times.. Ended up not being able to repair it from the amount of damage she did. also her band director replaced my 1 1/2 G with a 6 1/2 AL. :(
The trombone you have according to the serial number is from 1949 and the closest modern one I could find by blessing is around $1,500 new it appears to be a student model. First time watching loved the video
Cheap amazon Instruments are highly underrated. I take two periods of band, so I can’t always buy the most expensive instruments and my trumpet is around $100, it has served me well for 1.5 years the only thing to watch out for are the valves drying out quickly, that may be an issue with the stock oil though.
So far that's the consensus I've come to as well. I'm very happy with the quality of the trumpet and trombone I've gotten so far for how little money they were. I believe I'll check out a clarinet next, and that could very possibly break the streak of good instruments haha.
Plastic Brass instruments are perfect for buskers and smaller traveling bands. If you can mic the bell up on stage it would sound fine. Or in an open air busking situation not a lot of people would notice.
@@MadMusicBand as a former jazz trombone player, I am currently shopping for one of these just because of the cost. I am fully willing to sacrifice the few things this plastic lacks over traditional brass.
@PrinXessDime I'm with you there, the cost to performance is pretty high for a $60 price tag. Even for double that you get a lot of instrument for the money
Oh hey, the slide is self lapping XD Edit: 21:54 HEY! I may not be a trombone player, but I know my sci-fi, that's not *Star Trek*! Edit2: ok you got me lol.
This video led to a long discussion between my wife and about Jack White and White Stripes. She had no idea who he is or that song. She’s 39. Im 47 and felt help again. Also, I knew something my wife didn’t. So winning!
If im not mistaken, your blessing is a 1998 model. I know atleast with their trumpets the year is 50 higher than the first 2 digits. The model number is most likely stamped on the mouthpiece reciever.
At some point down the line, you should review orchestral instruments and don’t tell any of my friends in Orchestra but if you. Were the band teacher at school, I would totally join
I'd like to do orchestral instruments eventually as well! I'll be honest, I'm not great at them though haha. Also, don't worry, I won't tell your friends...but you should join band anyways ;)
I can’t carry a tune even if it’s in a water bucket. But brass instruments have metal “echo” right after the main sound. Plastic doesn’t, it’s just noise.
I haven’t played a trombone since middle school. 20 years ago I might get one of these. Be good for my twins to learn on. My wife and dog might hate me though lmao.
I like listening to reviews on cheep horns and other instruments. I went through 6 years of band classes, joining jazz band as wel as concert/ symphonic, and I played the saxaphone through most of it. I'm blind, so i needed my parts read to me and interpreted in small increments, but despite this I still did well for myself and the rest of the class. YOU'd probably be surprised at the playability of cheep saxaphones. They've come so far now, especially since it doesn't cost a ton to get a low end Chinese made horn that plays nicely. I haven't tried any myself, but I have an old Vito student horn which is really just a Yamaha with other branding. More recently I did get Yamaha's lower end digital sax which I play from time to time as a stand alone instrument with basic built in sounds, just to keep my fingerings and skill up, and it can be used as a midi controller as well, so I'll probably load up the studio horns in Logic pro and have a play with those, using the digital horn with it's standard sax key layout, breth sensor, etc, to trigger the notes and at least some of the articulations provided by those sounds.
You're an inspiration for sticking with music while being blind! I'm really excited to get to saxophone, it's looking like the clarinet or flute will be next (they're so much cheaper) but I'll definitely hit sax too. That's exciting about the cheap sax being pretty good, if I end up getting a good one. I actually have a Roland aerophone (like your Yamaha) that I used to use a lot at the podium, but it became more work to set up and keep going than just grabbing whatever instrument I actually needed. That's cool to hear that you're still sticking with it, it's honestly one of my biggest wishes as a music educator that my students find a love in music and will want to continue it in some way as they get older. I don't expect everyone to go on and get a music degree, but even just playing casually or keeping up their chops is fantastic to me. Let me know if there's anything I can do to try and make my videos better for you in the future. I'm really trying to get my audio quality tuned in, my trumpet review audio was kind of rough, but I've gotten a bit better with the trombone video. Hopefully the next one is even better :)
That’s so cool I’m blind also however I’ve been an orchestra and I’m not even joking. What I heard my voice over. Say I am blind. I freaked out. It’s nice to know this other people in this car section who had the same interest and have the same roadblocks I can go through at times.
Friendly suggestion to somebody wanting/playing a plastic horn: Metal mouthpieces are MUCH better, I suspect were you to put the metal one from your old 'bone on the plastic horn you would like it.
I actually showed both in the video! I agree that the metal mouthpiece did make a positive difference. It was hard for me to tell when actually playing it, but while editing the video the difference became pretty apparent between the two.
The blessing looks like a ‘scholastic’ model, but i’m a little too lazy to do any research on when it was produced. The quality of that horn really depends whether it was made in the elkhart factory pre merger from like 1930-1980. If not, it’s probably made with crappy chinese materials and manufacturing. Also, you should play your F naturals a little farther out haha. Great video :)
Thanks for giving your thoughts on the trombone, I really would have thought it would be easier to figure out but I haven't had any luck personally. Also, good looking out on the F's, I'll have to be less lazy ;)
@@MadMusicBandLooking into the serial number seems like it was made late 90s so right when production quality went down. If the bell has ‘Elkhart’ stamped on it, it might be one of the later models still made it Wisconsin, other wise it’s probably a stencil made in china. As for Fs, i was more talking that first position is a little questionable, too!
@@chipdavis7835well I'll be, you led me to researching and you do indeed have to kick out first position F a touch to get it in tune, had no idea... That's good to know. Maybe I had been lipping that down, or possibly had just been out of tune 😂. I'll have to start working that in to my playing and teaching, thanks!

Hadn't even heard of the mini, I'll have to check that out.
I look forward to trying one, I've heard good things!
Let’s hear the plastic section! Now the composite section. Wow what a world!
No way it would beat a Bach 42 or Bach Stradivarius.
The price beats it! ;)
@ By several hundred miles! 😃 I only meant that there is no replacement for brass when it comes to overall sound quality.
I was expected like a normal music stand was i was pretty surprised you got one of those sitting stands to rest instruments. Tbh only learned about them or know they are supplied well in the band room 😅
Yea, I was really excited about the stand...wish I'd known to push it down further :p
Excuse me, you only have 500 subscribers? This feels like a video in a 1 million subscriber channel.
Oh yeah you just started, it makes sense…
I'm glad you think so! Hopefully the videos will only get better from here :)
My day is going great, thanks for asking
That's what I like to hear!
Ya sold them outta stock AND hit your subscriber goal! Congrats.
Oh no! Gonna have to find a new cheapest trombone 😂
14:15 Seven nation army is the tune 😅
You got it! :)
You should do an instrument collection video with all the instruments you own
I'll have to do that over the summer when all my instruments come home, it would be a long video!
Had a good day, thanks for asking.
Good deal :)
as a percussionist, our worst nightmare is to use an air instrument
Haha, I've actually embraced it :)
7 Nations Army! 14:27. Gonna play that in my concert later this month for concert!
That's awesome, great song :)
Also, wow that's awesome that you play so many instruments! I wish I was as driven as you when I was 16 but I couldn't even read music at that point!
Yea, I would allow it for sure, but I get why a kid might not feel comfortable with it.
My husband just decided to learn the trombone, so seeing this video made me laugh.
That's awesome! Tell him that I believe in him 💪
It's the perfect trombone for a percussionist. You can hit it with sticks and not hurt it.
🤣
Brass is such a soft metal, its easy to bend or crush.
The trombone you have according to the serial number is from 1949 and the closest modern one I could find by blessing is around $1,500 new it appears to be a student model. First time watching loved the video
Thanks for the info! Mines definitely not worth 1.5k now, but I bet it was great once upon a time :)
Glad you got to enjoy the funness of a trombone!
Trombone is awesome!
The squeaks are going to be worse than a fork scraping a porcelain plate.
Plastic Brass instruments are perfect for buskers and smaller traveling bands. If you can mic the bell up on stage it would sound fine. Or in an open air busking situation not a lot of people would notice.
Yup, I've been really impressed with it.
Hey that's my havoc trombone model
Oh hey, the slide is self lapping XD
Edit: 21:54 HEY! I may not be a trombone player, but I know my sci-fi, that's not *Star Trek*! Edit2: ok you got me lol.
Ha! I can't believe I had to wait this long to get this comment. 🤣 I was really proud of that joke.
very nice video why only 537 subs
Working on it! Gotta start somewhere ;)
This video led to a long discussion between my wife and about Jack White and White Stripes. She had no idea who he is or that song. She’s 39. Im 47 and felt help again. Also, I knew something my wife didn’t. So winning!
Haha that's fantastic. Happy to help educate her ;)
@@MadMusicBand Thank you. And for giving me bragging rights for an hour over my awesome wife...we just subbed to you!
If im not mistaken, your blessing is a 1998 model. I know atleast with their trumpets the year is 50 higher than the first 2 digits. The model number is most likely stamped on the mouthpiece reciever.
Thanks for the info! I'll check it out once I get a chance, a student has it right now haha
love these
I wonder if you could use lapping compound to help the wear go a little faster so it can get smoother.
I did not expect that😳
At some point down the line, you should review orchestral instruments and don’t tell any of my friends in Orchestra but if you. Were the band teacher at school, I would totally join
I'd like to do orchestral instruments eventually as well! I'll be honest, I'm not great at them though haha. Also, don't worry, I won't tell your friends...but you should join band anyways ;)
great video, keep it up
Thanks, will do!
That's cool to hear, I bet a local community band would love to have you (if there's one nearby). Either way, at least it's easy on the wallet! :)
Great video! New subscriber !
Good stuff yet again!
I appreciate your support! 🎶
TROMBONE PLAYERS ASSEMBLE
Good job on the video Mr.jamison
🎵🎶🎺
Seven nation army was the tune, i have a tuba solo on it in pep band currently
I play trombone for school but I thought A was the metal trombone in the blind test
also, would it be possible to do a video of this type of an euphonium or baritone please
I'd absolutely love to, but it's looking to be above $400 at the minimum for a baritone... Gonna need to work my way up to that 😂
@@MadMusicBand You should try out the jHorn!
My days going fine
Finally, somebody said how their day was going! :)
Temporarily broke my brain at 21:55.
Muahaha!
love your reviews dawg
More to come!
17:51 fastest mouthpeice switch ever tbh
correction: you don’t need to oil them for AROUND 2 weeks of using it
14:15 seven nation army
16:48 when the saints go marching in
The blessing looks like a ‘scholastic’ model, but i’m a little too lazy to do any research on when it was produced.
Around the time 16:36 that was a perfect b flat
im so glad i use adblock :D
nice
Ngl you need to have more subs and likes for a band director, my fellow percussionist 👍
Thanks 😊
No problem
as a member of the Imperial Sith Alliance. i say to you.. you will show the imperial march the respect it is due. It may have been a long long time ago. in a galaxy far far away. But we did blow up a planet. and you've heard about it.
You are so good I’m doing it and you are way better then me
I swear every band teacher besides my current one was a percussionist 😂😂
7:37 “It’s not going to be perfectly smooth as far as like the action goes” (does a action) “ Ya think about how a trombone should go, Ya Oil it up and its just nice and slick” ( does action again) 💀💀💀
I chomp my pinky like once every month but it is what it is
