William Ma The detonator is better at hunting down spies if you know how to use it.
It allows you to detonate it at any distance, which means that even if you miss, you can just detonate it and engulf that frenchy in flames. There’s also the option of boosting yourself so you can catch up to any sneaky frenchmen who may be trying to escape.
It deals more damage too, which is nice.

Except it doesn't. You have to be above water to shoot it. The flare can go into water, but that's the case with all of the flare guns.

@@Fatsaver Im talking about if you land a direct hit with it, it deals more damage, with the combination of the initial hit and the mini-crit explosion.
It can:
- Stun lock
- Deal more damage despite having the highest damage penalty out of the three flares because of the bouncing flare hitting you twice
- Destroy stickies
- Flare jump
- And even be a temporary trap with that bouncing flare
Is there anything the scorch shot can't do?

This demonstration has been redone because the flare guns now apply 7.5 seconds of afterburn (down from 10 seconds) and the afterburn damage has increased to 4, for a total of 8 damage per-second.

Soooo the scorch shot, let's see what it can do.
-Mini crit burning players
-The Flare bounces players in the air
-Bounce them even further in the air if they are already on fire
-The bouncing flare will set other players on fire within it's blast radius when it hits the ground
-Speaking of blast radius, it's blast radius is nearly as big as the beggars bazooka meaning you barely need to aim with it to be good with it
-Can delete stickies for some reason
-Can do a mini detonator style like jump
-And is so spammy and piss easy to use that there is a 90% chance that it will make players leave the game
And all of this is balanced out by a -35% damage penalty and -35% self damage force
If Valve ever decides to do a balance change to the items in the game, I wouldn't be surprised if they decide to nerf this devilish thing first.
This weapon is super fun to play against.
It was my first random drop ever, I will never stop using it for how good the knockback is.

I don't have any issues with this weapon being used by a pybro to eliminate stickies or for a combo finisher. My problem is the kind of pyro that spams the shit at larger distances to harass anyone without taking any risks. And before you say anything, I don't main sniper, it's actually my least played class and one that I actually hate playing against for the same reason, instant deadly shot from larger distances at basically no risk whatsoever. But sniper, at the very least, has to have good aim, thing that doesn't happen with the scorch shot. And not even mention the phlog scorch shot combo.
The Phlog as its own it's actually balanced and maybe even a bit underwhelming because you have to engage enemies to get the mmmph charge, and the lack of airblast makes you really vulnerable, but with the scorch shot you don't have to take risks at all.
I insist that this weapon is excellent for pybros so I don't want this weapon to be nerfed into the ground at the point is useless just like the sandman, but it also urgently needs a nerf because right now it's literally a straight upgrade of the flare gun.

If they reverted this weapon back to how it was in 2012, I don't think as many people would complain about it.

The only thing that prevents this weapon from being a straight upgrade to the flare gun is it’s inability to crit burning players, and the damage penalty doesn’t mean shit, you hit them for 20 and then minicrit for 30 half a second later, you don’t have to aim it, and you can flare jump with it, making the detonator useless, the only good thing about this weapon is: it’s tauntkill looks pretty cool.
The detonator is still better for jumping
It's designed for long range harassment and crowd control. The splash radius is much smaller than rockets' or any other explosive, not to mention it's unreliable damage. Detonator isn't useless, its jump is much greater than Scorch Shot's and it's better against players who have the higher ground or are airborne.
And the taunt kill deals 420 damage :D

Ah, this flare gun is in need of a nerf. It's too easy to just spam the weapon and eventually splash one or several people with it. I think they should work on the afterburn so it's either weaker or doesn't last as long.
One airblast and everyone's extinguished. But yes, the afterburn duration should be shorter on non-direct hits.

Well then by your logic the Rocket Launcher and Grenade Launcher/Stickybomb Launcher needs a nerf because "It's too easy to just spam and eventually splash once or several people with it.". And before someone says it, the splash radius of the Rocket Launcher and Grenade Launcher is greater then that of The Scorch Shot. Not the other way around.
The difference is the rockets and grenades don't light people on fire. Also, I do think the Stickybomb Launcher needs to be rebalanced, but that's another topic.
@@BippoErnesti most of the scorch shots damage is DOT, most explosives do burst damage. Assuming you somehow didn't get healed or extinguished in that 7 seconds I doubt you would take more damage than from a rocket. Even assuming you did, because it is DOT you can easily kill the pyro before it kills you

This weapon isn't op, it's just hella annoying to play against.
Nah, it is op since it requires basicly no aim, it does an insane amount of damage, can 2 shot light classes, has a really strong knockback, it's highly spamable, it stun locks, you can still land an devastating amount of damage even if you miss, has full afterburn, has the biggest DPS of all flares, can hit multiple people at once and much, much more.
