Good news! The game is fully playable now! It is recommended to play on an Emulator though. Community member Calinou has posted a video to their channel showing how stable the game currently is. We have had several members of the discord perform full playthroughs to credits as of recent. Patches are still being released as well! If 60FPS sounds good to you, that is also now supported.
@@Zerbraxi Keep in mind, stability is still lower than desired. You will still run into some crashes, of course. Additionally, don't forget that Savestates don't actually "close" the game, so the virtual n64's memory doesn't get cleared. Any memory leaks, and it can pile up on the emulated N64's part and encourage more crashes. I believe normal saving is entirely functional, savestates ar ebetter for quick redos while saves are for stability and hopping off the game.
I fucking LOVE this game, sure it's not a typical Starfox game, but the visuals, the characters, the world, it's fantastic, and there's always Starfox Assault to remedy this, Assault is a great pairing to this game, Adventures acting as the finally modern Starfox game visually, and setting up Krystal's intro to the series, so when you play Assault you're already familiar with the idea of a Starfox game with ground gameplay, yet also familiar enough with Krystal not to be confused by why she's in Assault. The 2 games work so well. Assault as the more traditional Starfox game with fun new element like the Landmaster and on foot combat, and Aventures as just a cool intro to Krystal and RPG game.
It's in my top 10 for sure, at least in terms of childhood games. The only reason it's not higher is because of a mandatory timed puzzle where you had to shoot fireballs, and I could never beat it because of the awful fireball controls. I never actually finished it as a kid because of that
If I knew how to make a meme, I would post one here of the joker saying “Mario goes from rescuing princesses to driving go karts and nobody bats an eye. But pull Fox out of his Arwing and everyone LOSES THEIR MINDS!” Why is it that Mario can make any type of game there is and it’s seen as a Mario game but Starfox has to abide by these extremely narrow parameters of expectation or it’s not a true Starfox game? I don’t care if it wasn’t originally intended to be a Starfox game. Super mario 2 wasn’t originally a Mario game. That doesn’t mean the definition can’t be expanded. I wish people could just get past that and enjoy this game for what it is. It’s in my top 5 favourite video games of all time. Also, the detail in things like Fox’s fur was way ahead of its time, at least for Nintendo. I honestly feel many Nintendo games don’t catch up to it until the Wii u era.
I don't think you'll find anyone fight you in the graphics. This is probably the best looking Gamecube, easy top 3 contender at the very least. For me, my original hesitation of what Adventures was years ago, compared to Mario, is by this point we only had 2 games, one of which was a remake. Yet another 3d adventure game wasn't all that exciting when the primary genre Dtar Fox was a part of still had a ton to explore. Sure, at the end of the day it turned out, "fine", on my opinion. However, I always love to hear when someone loves a game to be one of their favorites. Sharing around all of our different views and perspectives is why I have fun doing this and not seeing eye to eye is but a fun conversation starter
Honestly those strength and endurance tests can be beaten by pausing as soon as you get tired. Idk if starfox allows pausing, but rare had races with this bird lady from Banjo Tooie. And even though it gets harder with every race, I pause the game to take a break and to allow my muscles to relax. Bout 5 to 10 minutes, then start up again.
This could definitely work on the Test of Strength, but fear might be a bit tougher since the Test of Fear is less about endurance of any kind and more about response time. Pause strat definitely ftw though.
I really think that this game had so much potential to become a classic that would masterfully close the life cycle of the Nintendo 64 by pushing the console to its limits and that would be fondly remembered like other RARE classics like Banjoo and Kazooie, Conker Bad Fur Day and Perfect Dark. It's really a shame that they decided to turn it into a "Star Fox Game", the Star Fox elements in the game always felt rushed and poorly fitted into the game's environment and I really hated some decisions like cutting basically the entire campaign of Krystal and imprison her in a crystal to fully focus on Fox Mcloud. It's funny that I had a lot more fun playing the Beta of this game for the Nintendo 64 than Star Fox Adventures on the GameCube, I hope that someday Dinosaur Planet can suffer the same fate as Star Fox 2 and that we can play this game with its vision original.
Yeah, I think for this game to have worked it would've needed to just stay Dinosaur Planet, or there needed to be a Star Fox Adventures 2 to implement what they had learned. I also had a load of fun playing Dinosaur Planets prototype for this video. It was a surprisingly good time considering how unfinished it is. Maybe one day Dinosaur Planet will make its way back. I mean, the possibility isn't 0% at least.
I Love Starfox Adventures, but I want to Play the ORIGINAL Dinosaur Planet. I don't see any Real Reason why we can't have Dinosaur Planet today. The Characters are Different, the Plot and Story may seem the same but End Differently, there are 2 Protagonists instead of just 1, there's no Starfox Elements in the Original Dinosaur Planet, and so much more. Hell even the Level Designs are Different.
Someone mentioned to me, and I've been following the Dinosaur Planet discord, but it would appear that all of the data on the prototype that was discovered is fully playable. It's probably the best we're ever gonna get and the most Dinosaur Planet we'll ever see.
Yes to Turok retrospective! Turok 2 was a favorite of my brother and I. I can still remember the opening, mostly because I rarely got too much further beyond that. Haha But I loved playing that game, starting to get some of those better weapons and killing Dino’s in some of my deeper runs. So much fun!
Nice! It's a series that seems incredibly underappreciated. I remember playing A TON of that Turok 2 multiplayer back in the day. My cousin used to be way better than me at it so I'd always beg to play Smash Bros instead so I could feel better about myself lol!
So after doing some experimenting with the lightfoot: test of strength, i think i discovered why it’s so hard. The first few seconds, the game looks at whatever rate you’re pressing the a button and it matches and exceeds it quickly. So if you start out going a mediocre speed, wait for the game to match it, then mash the ever living crapp out of the button, then you’ll win every time. Gotta say it took me days, and many many many tries
My god dude, I understand your pain with the test of strength part. Back when I was a kid I couldn't do it either. I had to ask my dad to do it for me. So yeah, imagine my dad coming home from work and I was like hey dad, can you press this button for me as fast as you can?
I understand it very good aswell. Me & my Sister were playing it back in the day and we never gotten through this point because apparently we were to "stupid" to press A fast enough. Nowdays its not a problem at all. Thx to our Mother and her fast thumb we beaten him at some point. Tho later my sister found a useful trick on the Internet that when swiping a pen over the A button it presses it also many times in a short time. Also usefull in Mario Party mashing games :D
@MauriceGS first off, shout out to your mom huh?! What a boss. Pen trick works well. Another one is to use your pointer finger only cuz the reflex is faster. That or use the thumb for A and "bounce" if off your pointer finger on the back of the controller while still pressing. Essentially doubles your presses when you get good at it. Totally how I win at every Mario Party mingame despite getting screwed everywhere else and still losing.
It really might end up being that way. What's a shame is that in the age of Roguelike's and lites, it would be very easy to adapt the gameplay of Star Fox and the model set forth all the way back even in Star Fox 2 and it could be an incredibly interesting title. There are still a lot of options they could run with, but I'm not confident we'll see anything for a bit. Though I at least have at least 4 more videos to do for this series so we can have some fun with that along the way :)
@@Zerbraxi I know it isn’t starfox, but there is a game called Sky Rogue that is essentially just all range mode from SF64 but a rogue lite, also has local co op.
I have to point out as you mentioned at 43:13. The original voice of Krystal in Dinosaur planet was Eveline Fischer - not Estelle. Eveline worked at rareware and also voice Joanna Dark in Perfect Dark.
Krystal, like many characters from Dinosaur Planet was going to be axed by Rare from the final game. It was Miyamoto's decision to keep her in since he wanted an attractive fox girl in the series. It would also explain her limited time in the final build.
@Zerbraxi It gets weirder when fox says "But how do I get mine in there" when glancing up at her. You can also see suggestive posters on the Great fox when Krystal gets there. Kind of makes sense when you think that Fox probably hasn't seen any ladies in the eight year gap between 64 and Adventures
The test your strength I remember when I was a child and I could not do that at all I even have my friend younger than me he tried and he felt so many times too until I got my big cousin damn there one tap pretty much all it took he a goat
The Test of Strength is this wild ride of emotions and memories for so many people considering how tough it was. However, you'll then get to that point as an adult and wonder if your child self just lacked hands considering how easy it actually is lol.
Ahh, Adventures! The game with super graphics, super bgm and terrible gameplay. As far as tough challenges are concerned, the most dreaded part of the game for me was the krazoa challenge of fear. Trying to keep the bar within the boundaries was very hard and I had to laser-focus on the meter so much that I couldn't enjoy the visuals. I would also fail it so many times and be forced back to the beginning of the temple every time, too, which made it frustrating. As for that strength test you hate, here is a tip; momentum can help make it even easier. From my experience, it seems that the rate of spin from the totem itself adds a hidden dynamic to how easily you can recover when you are being pushed back. Allow the big guy to push you back a bit, but not enough to knock you over. Next, start jamming the button like crazy. The resulting speed of the totem's spin will be harder for the brute to recover from as he nears the pit and will knock him into it. It kinda sucks that Krystal didn't get more play time in this game like she should have. If they had just kept the switching between two characters in this game. Not only would it have made more sense, but I would have enjoyed seeing a hot furry babe bashing baddies' heads in with a staff. Meanwhile, Fox himself would blast them away with his awesome array of blasters and cannons. Seeing what a flying dino companion could do would have also been a nice addition, kinda like having a dino drone.
Krystal not being more involved is probably the biggest sin of this whole game. Especially when you consider that she actually never gets to shine in the entire series...like at all...ever! If not for Dinosaur Planet I'd honestly have like nothing to say about Krystal at all but her setup is clearly good but never paid off. It's a real shame.
Really well done! I loved this game so much as a kid. I still think the music and overall atmosphere of this game is so good, but I can never force myself to finish this again 😅
The strength test is the sole reason I can’t play this amazing game without a turbo controller. Only other criticism I have is the fire blaster control. It has often resulted me in just stopping a playthrough for months on end simply because I spend hours just trying to aim it to free the high top on dragon rock. Otherwise, the game is a fun and amazing experience every time. And it was a great introduction to Andross for those who only had access to the Star Fox game cube experiences.
The aiming is definitely something I don't like either. I pledged to complete Jet Force Gemini this year and it uses the same control method and I'm not thrilled about it
Even playing it on original hardware it's a pretty game. Playing it on a Gamecube with an RGB SCART cable connected to my Retrotink and it's beautiful. Playing it on Dolphin Emulator upscaled to 1080p with precompiled shaders and it's absolutely GORGOEOUS for a Gamecube game. Basically, you have several options on how to play it and it's one of the best looking games of that generation regardless of how you do it.
Pssst, play dinosaur planet instead! You can download the rom or even play it on real hardware. It’s not finished, but it’s a beautiful and super interesting game. And it’s fascinating to see the original vision before it was butchered.
I'm just disappointed because Dinosaur Planet almost certainly would've been another Rareware n64 banger. Taking Miyamoto's offer to make the game a Star Fox title was a pretty safe move financially and publicly since they were in a bit of a struggle at the time and it was a new IP, but it also put Star Fox in a weird position because now the next game had to somehow appease the OG Star Fox fans and the new fans of Adventures, and ever since then the series has sort of been an inconsistent, rocky mess. I really wish that Star Fox would've had a natural evolution from Star Fox 64's gameplay and that Dinosaur Planet got to remain and succeed as it's own franchise. I don't think Adventures is a terrible game, but I definitely don't think it was worth what we possibly could have had in the grand scheme of things.
It's not the ultimate release we want, but thankfully it seems like everything from the Dinosaur Planet prototype is fully playable. I will DEFINITELY be covering that at some point for sure because I share you sentiments about it.
You beat the test of strength easier by moving your finger across the A and B button super fast, it hurts but you will get it your first try. Edit: Maybe I was just a weak child too haha.
34:06 I think I got used Jet Force Gemini’s odd controls after a while, but dear god, the Tribal hunt is faaaaar worse! I just want to play the final level please 😭
I'm gonna be going through Jet Force Gemini fully this year at some point and I want to try and more carefully analyze the controls. Not sure if I'll make a video on it, but possibly since it's Rareware and I'd love to cover everything they ever made on the N64
This will forever be my favorite game ( maybe purely based off nostalgia ). My parents bought me this game on release w/ the bobble head when I was 4 years old and to this day as at 26 year old I still enjoy playing this game. The music will forever punch me in the gut and bring tears to my eyes of memories of my mother R.I.P mom!
Thank you for sharing this. I love hearing these stories on how games impact our lives. Sorry about your mom 😟 I'll definitely remember this story next time I play
I LOVE this game so much. I'm a massive starfox fan, but an odd fan. Assault and adventures my 2 favorite starfox games by a mile. I wasn't introduced with starfox 64 but actually through smash bros 64, that's where i fell i love with fox. So i always saw fox as a fighter so when adventures came out... holy crap i loved it SO much. Fox with a freaking staff running around?! Amazing! And assault is just.... it just the perfect mix of everything and it's beautiful as hell.
Even as much as I pick on Adventures, there's SOO much to love about it still and Assault, man Assault has such an unnecessarily bad reputation. I hope you enjoyed :)
That's really cool. I also really miss the Rare from this time period. I've debated doing an entire retrospective episode on just them in particular. Maybe someday...
The only thing that comes close to Rare’s run in the 90’s is Rockstatar from 2001-2013. GTA, Midnight Club, Bully, Red Dead Redemption, max Payne, LA Noire and Manhunt
Weirdly, i had a dream the other day that because Microsoft had not released a RareWare game in so long the company reverted back to Nintendo 😂 if only it wasnt just a dream. Great video! Really interesting to see the differences laid out like this.I heard about the alpha build releasing but haven't checked it out yet. Its always fascinating to see games in early builds like this, I wish we got to see more games in this state. I personally really enjoyed StarFox Adventures, i hadnt played a zelda game before i played it so it just seemed completely original to me. Also this game still looks amazing, honestly how did Rare get the fur animation so good in the early 2000s
Yeah the visuals are absolutely insane still. Granted this footage wS using some upscaling but even on my original gamecube hardware in 480p native wide-screen it's easily one of the best looking games of that generation, if not the best.
If Nintendo or Rare actually made Dinosaur Planet instead of Star Fox Adventures, then maybe Dinosaur Planet would have had a franchise, depending on sales.
Unfortunately I have a feeling it would've been stuck as an unused IP similar to so many other Rare franchises at the moment. As much as I love Rare's stuff, if Banjo Kazooie is dormant I just imagine everything else will stay that way as well, unless Nintendo owned it like DKC then perhaps.
I Loved this game, got it for Christmas and played it until it broke. It was so beautiful to look at! Loved the music, designs etc. - Never played Zelda and the original Star-fox game. I will always love this game, but I would love to play the game it was supposed to be too!
@@Zerbraxi I know right! I got Gamecube too, so it was the biggest gift after playstation 2. It was the first game I really really wanted after the Spyro games, SMario 64 Bajo etc..
@@Zerbraxi yea I played it like a thousand times and I agree what you said about you having problems with the strength part I need it a pencil or a toy to help me pass that level and I did and I also asked my dad to help me with that level because he’s so strong and he did pass the level too
One thing that is a big misconception about Star Fox Adventures is that Miyamoto didn't just say "Cool game! Make it Star Fox." A new SF game was beeing produced alongside Dinosaur Planet, but after a long trip to dev hell that made them scrap the starfox game and just fuse the best ideas from both projects to make a game for the Gamecube, Star Fox Adventures was born.
Yeah I tried to make the comment there that "the details change depending on who you ask" because even internal developers at Rare have told different stories of the events over the years. However, after now having played the Dinosaur Planet prototype for about 6 hours, and have seen more of what it is in the prototype's code as available content that is playable, I'm really curious to see what things actually came over from the Star Fox game that was being worked on because SFA is VERY close to Dinosaur Planet in a lot of ways.
I wonder if there's evidence to this lost SF game before it got scrapped in favor of Adventures and combining the worlds of DP and SF into one big mess. Is there a link to this?
8:02 because SFA is a butchered mess. That pterodactyl used to be a major character to DP. Really weird choice to not just get rid of the whole cage lol
I just found your channel today and im watching all of it, dude I love your channel and you actually really made me laugh, one of my new favorite channels for sure.
It'd be impossible for me to not acknowledge that video in some way. It's such gold :) There are a couple little references to that video sprinkled throughout.
So a lot of people like to blame Nintendo for messing this up by forcing fox in. But why? Fox could’ve just replaced Sabre like he basically did, and Krystal could’ve stayed in the game. Like why the heck did they remove Krystal’s sections? Making this a star fox game doesn’t necessarily mean remove Krystal entirely.
We'll probably never know the exact details of the how and why. Maybe in time though we'll get more of Dinosaur Planet to play and have our cake and eat it too.
This game was awesome. I dont understand how "starfox elitists" (most of which don't even have 10 hrs in Starfox) complained about this game when there was also Starfox Assault
To give them a little slack, people were pretty upset when this came out mostly because a game like Assault didn't actually exist yet. Honestly, I think the hate on it is pretty overblown almost entirely because several other great Star Fox games do already exist.
Okay yes, hello, hi. I came here to listen about Star Fox Adventures and then 13:41 happened and you my good sir are very much correct. SONY, REMAKE LEGEND OF DRAGOON. pls and thank you, have a good day. carry on.
_Star Fox Adventures_ is such an odd mess of a game when you look at its development history. It began life as an original IP at the tail end of the N64's life cycle, but Rare was pushing that aging hardware beyond what Nintendo thought possible. The game was featuring fully-voiced characters and cutscenes along with a story and characters that had a surprising amount of depth and potential to them. Rare really wanted to make their own adventure game that could stand on the same level as Zelda. But then Rare's higher ups took Miyamoto up on the suggestion to transition it to a _Star Fox_ game and everything went sideways. First they had to redo parts of the story to make it fit within the new series, then they had to transition from the N64 to Gamecube, then they had to start cutting tons of content to ship the game two days before they were bought out by Microsoft. At one point Krystal herself was almost cut entirely to save time until Miyamoto encouraged Rare to keep her in (and change her appearance to give her more "sex appeal"). It's a miracle the game looked and played as well as it did given how much was altered in development. For as odd and divisive as _SFA_ is among the fans I still think it represented the right path forward for the series. Although I had great times with the rail shooter gameplay of _SF64_ I found myself coming back to the series because the setting and characters had that charm and promise of an ongoing adventure story that most Nintendo franchises don't even bother to try. I'd honestly rather see Nintendo give _SFA_ the reboot treatment that restores the original game's narrative and work it into the setting better rather than yet another retread of the first game. In fact, there's been enough interest in a _SFA_ remake that two major fan game projects have already taken up the task. The one I'm most intrigued for is rebuilding the entire game in Unreal and combining the original _Dinosaur Planet's_ story and gameplay with modern refinements. This includes revamped Arwing sections, better on-foot combat and exploration, and Krystal having her protagonist status restored and working alongside Fox to save Sauria. The creator even got Estelle Ellis to reprise her original Krystal role for this project.
The story behind the development of the game is equally as interesting as the response to it. It's truly the culmination of so much that either lands as a love it or hate it scenario. I also would love to see a return to this style in some capacity. It would be controversial yet again, but even a hybrid gameplay setup with Adventure and Arwing sections could provide to be an incredible experience. I mean heck, an NES game called The Guardian Legend did a very similar thing with Adventure and Rail Shooter gameplay where you back and forth and it's actually awesome!
Good luck on a Turok series review if you ever do that. I’m assuming you’re truly ecstatic for the Nightdive Studios remaster of 3. Hopefully they also get their hands on the prequel because under the various issues with controls, checkpoints, and some other issues it seems to be a really good game. I’ll definitely play those games once they go on sale. I LOVE just how crazy and stupid the game’s premise is. It’s too bad the series is now dead. They look like so much fun. You’d think that with the resurgence of Boomer Shooters and Neo-Boomer Shooters like Doom 2016/Eternal that we’d have a new entries that takes the best ideas from across the series and builds on it. We NEED more weird games like that.
Part of the reason I'd love to do a Turok Retrospective is actually because I haven't played most of the series but I always remember loving what I did play when I was younger. Embarrassing fact, but I didn't even know there was a Turok 3 until like a year ago....yikes huh? I love exploring these series where I haven't played every entry but I have a "rough" idea of it because then everybody can kinda chime in and either set up my expectations or mess with me about things. This happened with Golden Sun The Lost Age for example which I hadn't played before and everyone's enthusiasm for it made me like it even more! However, based on the recent poll I threw out there, Turok easily won so it's definitely happening now. I just wanna wrap up Star Fox first before I start anything on Turok since I'm so close to finishing the Star Fox series. Just finished the last of the 9 endings in Command last night :)
That’s interesting. I have a similar story in regards to Half-Life where for a very long time I had yet to play the series. But, it still had a really big impact on me because I’d watch a bunch of lore videos, some let’s plays, Half-Life 2 Beta recreations, and some other things. The Half-Life series was pretty ingrained into my psyche and because of this Doom 3 was my favorite of the Doom games because the overall tone and set up was basically Half-Life 1 with demons instead of aliens. The Aliens series is also something that had a big impact on me despite the fact I’ve only seen one of the films, and bits and pieces of some others (mainly because as a kid I wasn’t allowed to watch rated R movies, and I just haven’t gotten around to it as an adult). I’ve watched numerous lore videos, played a few of the games, read several comics, and my cousins had the action figures. There was also this really cool AVP Minecraft mod I really liked. There’s some things like that where even though it took me a long time to experience the main thing they still rubbed off on me. Recently Turok has kind of been doing that. I’ll DEFINITELY play those games when they go on sale. Good luck with those videos, especially on the 2008 one that tried to be a mashup of different shooters of the time and failed miserably (assuming you do that🤣🦖). I think a big chunk of why I find Turok so appealing is because I LOVE the Lost World setting/genre because I watched the Peter Jackson King King a bunch as a kid, and that weird Land of the Lost movie with Will Ferrell (that movie is so atrociously bad it’s good😂). Good luck on the rest of your Star Fox retrospective. It will definitely be good to have that past you. Fr what I’ve heard Command is really fun, but it gets repetitive fast so you only want to play it in short bursts. I watched a let’s play and aside from story beats not logically lining up with your ingame actions it was fine for the most part. Most of the characters acted like they normally do and it would’ve been a decent sendoff for the series. Unfortunately, the terrible endings and the sections with Krystal tank the game. I don’t really have to go into detail why because it’s pretty self evident. Good luck on that video. It will be interesting👍
The game is alright. It has SO much style and charme... while the gameplay is obviously rather meh. And then there is Krystal. I mean, I am no furry or anything but.... but well...
I don't hate Star Fox Adventures, it's just okay though. I personally think that Adventures should've been Dinosaur Planet which would've helped Rare with a new Ip & the furries still get their furry queen Krystal, & Star Fox fans wouldn't be in one of the biggest civil wars in video game history. Imagine that reality, well, we can't, because we don't know what that would've been like.
I guess I didn't play the game until I was at least 16, which is already half to adult, but I didn't see the Lightfoot Test of Strength as "too unbeatably hard". NO, THAT particular oscar goes to the TEST OF FEAR, my absolute BELOATHED. What I do like about Adventures is how well they had tied Krystal into the later games then, but with Star Fox Zero rebooting the entire franchise once AGAIN, they do make a reference to Sauria, but Krystal is nowhere to be seen, which I do find kind of a bummer because I do like her and her being a part of the Star Fox team. Also Assault should have gotten a better sequel than Command tbch... It absolutely WOULD have been nicer to see her an Fox interact more and maybe even save the planet TOGETHER instead of her being discount Zelda recycled IN SPACE and OR even play the original Dinosaur Planet as it was originally intended by Rare.
Ya that Test of Fear was WAY harder than I recalled. I don't know why the Test of Strength was the piece I struggled with back in the day but have no memory of having any difficulty at all with the Test of Fear.
9 year old me was so duped by this game... Star Fox was my favorite game, so when my parents happened to take me to a Bust Buy and I saw "Star Fox" on the front, I didn't need any other info and begged my parents to get it for me. I ended up having fun with it as a kid, but replaying it a year or so ago was rough.
It seems to age poorly especially in terms of it's game design. It at least has some impressive visuals for its time which makes it pretty while it's a slog to play lol
I was born in 95 and got this game when I was 6 or 7. Naturally this was my introduction to StarFox and I loved this game. As a kid without the context of the StarFox franchise or Dinosaur Planet I think this title really could stand alone as a very enjoyable adventure. As an adult with that context I totally understand the complaints. I think it’s disjointed but still a very enjoyable title on the surface. Also I will never forget being at my grandpas house trying to get him hand my dad to beat the test of strength since I couldn’t do it myself 😂
Child muscle control is clearly terrible since so many of us struggled with that dang thing. As an adult it's an absolute joke that you'll beat on accident. It's wild.
32:34 I swear that the test of strength is programmed in such a way that if you press A just a smidge too early you get whooped. At least that’s what kid me remembers.
My theory is that it's programmed in such a way that it knows if your under the age 15 and makes it agonizingly difficult just so as an adult you feel foolish when you crush it years later. Like some sort of sick joke from Rareware. I'm totally embracing full conspiracy theory on this one.
I looked into it and it's really just "mash as hard as you can". The trick is that every frame you aren't mashing, you lose ground, so it's very unforgiving.
I liked the game for what it was. A little disappointed at first but the Zelda clone gameplay was good enough, I ended up finishing the game without being left unsatisfied, so that has to mean something. Absolutely a one-and-done game. I had a harder time at the Test of Fear section. I can only wonder about the thoughts on Star Fox Zero. It was ambitious, perhaps overly ambitious, in my opinion.
This time around I failed the Test of Fear maybe 3 times? Definitely harder than strength. We'll definitely get to Zero. I try to be as fair as possible and Zero is just so complicated to talk about so we'll see how that goes.
The same exact thing happened to me with the test of strength. I had to have my older brother do it when I was young. And going back and replaying I was so anxious but then didn't sweat at all. What's really weird, is I can't beat some of my Mario Party records as a kid though
@@Zerbraxi that feeling when you ate a bad ass meal and you’re left on couch like damn that was intense. That That right there . Thanks for the video!!
Fun fact haven’t heard the name turok in a long time. But when I was a kid I loved this game (granted I didn’t have many games to dictate what was a good game or not) but it was a fun game to me but now that I’m older I kinda feel the things wrong with it but I still don’t hate it. Flaws are a massive part of games and sometimes they are more noticeable than others. But just because this game was meant to be another doesn’t mean there wasn’t some enjoyment to be had.
I never imagined so many people would actually want to see a Turok series retrospective LOL. Agreed with your sentiment. I hope I was still able to point out its strengths while expressing my struggles and frustration.
Don't give up on making videos! I am watching your video one year later and this is the type of content I enjoy that scratches that "itch" for me :) Edit: Also this is my first video I've watched and already subbed! I have something that I can donate to you to help you review more games!
The test of strength must have got child-me stuck for a year, until I got a turbo-controller. The trick is to start out slow and then go fast once you get a bit of momentum going.
I love how you jumped in the shower for a 20 second clip. Great stuff as usual zerbraxi, I'd love to hear you talk more about rare stuff, kind of miss them and their games
I had Turok on n64 as a kid, it was cool! I even bought a couple of the novels, and I was captivated. What a time. I'd watch your retrospective definitely, I've been meaning to give the game a shot again these days as it's been more than 20 years.
@@Zerbraxiwell, last i checked, the game went into "beatable" status, allowing people to see all the content there is in the rom. Probably some good 20 hours of gameplay If you know exactly where to go and what to do. Would love to see a playthrough.
I'm a bit obsessed with this game, and as far as I know I'm the only one to bother modding SFA (as opposed to DP). There's so much left in the code that tells you the game is really only half finished. About 50% of the maps were deleted. I don't know if both characters were meant to traverse the same dungeons (instead of Fox doing each one twice) or if there were meant to be more. You mention that it was originally meant for two characters, and in fact many levels' animation scripts refer to Krystal specifically. They just did a check to apply it to whichever character is active. It's pretty evident from that and the general clash of styles that they just merged both storylines and then cut a bunch out. Meanwhile Fox is still named Sabre in his files. There's a lot of leftover models, objects, voice clips, and sound effects too. You can tell there was major time crunch. I get the feeling the finished game felt rushed not only because of having to rewrite the story, but also because of changing console, and because Rare always got too ambitious and had to cut a bunch of things. Rare's extensive use of the same stock sound effects as everything else ever was definitely one of their weak points. The music was always fantastic, but the sound effects were awkward. I mean, they work, but it's so strange to hear a horror movie trailer using the same "children laughing" sound as Diddy Kong Racing, or that one "whoosh" sound that's in everything ever. People overlook the fact that Tricky is a child and a dinosaur. He can't really speak; there's a translator involved. He's basically a clever dog. The only thing that really bugged me about him was sometimes his breathing was too loud and sometimes he got in the way. The Test of Strength is an odd one. Everyone finds it either absurdly easy or absurdly difficult. I looked at the code and unfortunately, the only "trick" to it is mashing as fast as possible. It's just very unforgiving if you aren't perfect. Fun fact: the game has so much in common with Jet Force Gemini because it's the same engine. It's also used by Diddy Kong Racing and Mickey's Speedway USA. The maps are still called tracks internally.
That last bit of trivia is super interesting. I did know about Jet Force Genini and SFA but had no idea DKR and MSUSA were all the same engine as well. Thank you so much for sharing that!!
Adventures was the first Star Fox game I played. Because if this I didn’t experience the jarring shift between it and 1/64. It’s crazy to think it’s 20 years old now. Wow! I really liked Adventures because the gameplay was fun for the most part. The music and graphics were super good. I really liked how it added Krystal and built up Scales. Too bad he wasn’t the final boss (Andross shouldn’t have even been in the game). Unfortunately, the Arwing sections weren’t super fleshed out and there were various drawbacks. A dinosaur world/land can easily be crammed into a lot of settings, but the fantasy elements clash too much with the sci-fi focus of 1/64. I’m of the opinion that for a sci-fi setting to have fantasy elements they should be there from the beginning like 40K and Star Wars. Stuff like telepathy and James being kept vague as to whether or not he’s a ghost, actually there, or a hallucination are fine because they don’t really rock the boat. Even though I loved Adventures, I think Dinosaur Planet would’ve been the better game. The story is so much better, I really liked how Krystal and Sabre had their own quests and traveled to unique areas. The lore with the Krazoa and Drakor’s species was interesting. It’s really too bad that we didn’t get this. I would’ve loved to see where the story could’ve gone in potential sequels. Thankfully we at least have the rom and like you said the community has been continually fixing/improving it. Haven’t played it yet because I don’t have a very good computer that can run emulators, and I don’t want to play a buggy mess that crashes all the time. It will be awesome to see this thing once it’s done. It’s really too bad that Rare was bought out by Microsoft and turned into what it is now. There’s so many great ips left dormant. I know this next part will piss off some people, but I’ll say it anyways. When Goldeneye came out of GamePass I was excited because people have been hyping it up. Then I played the game and reaction was “this sucks. I’m going back to Halo and Half-Life”. I’d probably like the 360 Xbox Arcade version more since it’s a CoD clone and CoD games are fun. Great video. It will be interesting to see your thoughts on Assault (favorite game in the series. Too bad they didn’t build on its formula).
I'm very looking forward to doing Assault. Goldeneye is definitely a product of its time but it's impact on the industry is undeniable. Thanks for the discussion here. Definitely hoping to be able to cover Dinosaur Planet more thoroughly in due time. 😉
@Zerbraxi Good luck on the Assault video (You should include the clip from e3 where they showed it off as a fps and it got booed and was later changed to a third person shooter. I wish that they would’ve added in the option to toggle between first and third person). Assault is definitely my favorite game in the series. I really liked how you could jump in and out of vehicles. I just wish it was a little bit longer and there were more rail sections. I remember for the longest time I assumed it was the last game in the series because it had this feeling of finality and I didn’t think they’d try to make a game that would top them fighting bootleg Borg. Then I learned Command was a thing and the story for that is a complete dumpster fire (it’s sad because from what I’ve heard the gameplay was really fun and had it been handled better it would’ve at least been a good send off for the series). If I could have any of the Star Fox games be remade it would be Assault. A while back there was a rumor about a potential Assault remake. But, that was based entirely upon people having wild speculations that Namco putting out a job listing to remake GameCube games for the Switch could potentially lead to that. Even if that is true we won’t know for several years and it could easily be canned halfway into development. Something I’d like to see in a potential Assault remake would be a side story that shows what Bill and Katt were doing during the game (there could be a starting mission where they also take on Andrew’s forces while Star Fox deals with them. One set on Corneria as it’s being taken over. As well as a space one where it shows the fleet being destroyed before fleeing towards the end. It would also be nice to see some Star Wolf missions). I’d also love to see more maps, playable characters for the multiplayer (if that was online it would be a blast), weapons, vehicles, and other content to better flesh out the game. Too bad that almost certainly won’t happen. I can see that about Goldeneye being a product of its time that is nostalgic for a lot of people. There’s some games from my childhood I really liked that people now aren’t big fans of. Or certain small aspects of games that haven’t aged well, but like you said they set the foundation for more to come. If you want more Star Fox content that isn’t official there’s two really cool fan games you should check out. The first is Star Fox Event Horizon made by UndyingNephalim/IceCreamMan. It’s a reimagining of the 64 continuity that uses characters and ideas from all three reboots. It’s a mod for Freespace Open, which is an open source game so it’s 100% free. Last year the guy got in contact with Krystal’s original voice actress and she’s going to do voice work for his game. He also found Bill/Wolf’s 64 voice actor to reprise his roles. The SNES/64 arc is almost done. The guy just has to add voice acting and rework/rebalance certain levels. He’s also setting the stage for the Adventures arc, which will include lore/plot points from Dinosaur Planet. The game is super fun. Unfortunately, due to engine limitations there’s no rail sections, you can’t transform vehicles like in 2/Zero, and you can’t hop in and out of vehicles like in Assault. Luckily the core gameplay is still really good, but those do kind of drag it down. There’s also a few bad/weird story changes here and there (killing off Fara. For the longest time I just assumed that she was some oc that got really popular until I learned she’s from a 90s Nintendo Power comic that almost nobody read). Thankfully those don’t drag down the experience too much. The other is this reimaging of Adventures called Star Fox Remadventures, being made by Esphirian. I’ve talked with the guy in the comments and he has a bunch of cool ideas for the gameplay as story. For one thing Andross is dead and there’s just a military alliance between Scales and his remnants. Krystal is going to be along for the journey and we’ll see her bond with Fox over the course of the game. The Great Fox and it’s crew will play an active role in the conflict. For gameplay it’s going to be like BOTW where there’s a big open world and you can do objectives in any order you want (I’m assuming there will also be some Metroid elements where you’ll need an ability to access certain areas). You’ll be able to swap between Krystal and Fox like in Lego Star Wars and you’ll need their unique abilities to solve certain puzzles (I think that certain enemies will be weak towards a certain character’s abilities so that would also encourage you to swap between then). Fox will play more like Assault, and Krystal will play more like Adventures. In his version Randorn and Sabre are now Krystal’s biological family and blue. The Cerinians are also now native to Sauria/Dinosaur Planet and they’ll have a “special connection” to the Krazoa similar to Bungie’s version of the Forerunners that will explain their powers (in CE Guilty Spark mistakes Chief for a Forerunner implying that an armored human is indistinguishable from a Forerunner. He also calls humans Reclaimers, which means to reclaim something that was once yours. In Ghosts of Onyx the Sentinels speak Latin, which is the language of the Forerunners and the Covenant already understands that because they’ve been dealing with Forerunner tech for so long. Only humans can operate Forerunner tech without first taking it apart and reworking it. In the storyboards for Halo 2 the Ark (later turned into the portal to the Ark in 3) was located in East Africa where modern humans first originated some 100,000 years ago. This just so happens to align with when Forerunners disappeared from the galaxy. In the original Halo 2 ending the “big reveal” would where the Arbiter is taken by Guilty Spark to the Data Vault, which was this room that contained a sarcophagus with a Forerunner skeleton that acted as a holotype for the Ark’s machines to guild development of indigenous life to a desired point. I couldn’t be anymore blatant unless I was outright telling you what Bungie had planned. Gee, I sure do wonder what kind of a crazy revelation will explain why Krystal can interface with Krazoa artifacts and has powers related to them. It truly is a mystery). Scales is also misinterpreting the Krazoa as gods and I’m assuming his plan is to ascend and join them as a divine entity. Unfortunately, there’s no playable builds/demos at this point because it’s so early in development and Esphirian doesn’t want Nintendo to strike it down. You should check out the videos the guy made for it. It’s really cool. Good luck on a potential Turok retrospective, assuming you do that. I unfortunately haven’t played the games because they were before my time and I haven’t gotten around to it. It’s really too bad that series is gone. Those games look like so much fun. I just LOVE the INSANE premise and all the crazy weapons that are super cool but would be horribly inefficient in real life. I wish more games would use Dinosaurs. It’s too bad that we won’t get a neo-Boomer shooter reboot like Doom did. There’s a lot you could do with that setting.
The voice actors noticeably struggling with Panzerese (the made-up language) compared to Japanese is quite noticeable in Panzer Dragoon Saga too, while in the previous games this was delivered completely fine. But this is limited to just the initial and final scenes whereas the other games are fully in Panzerese, a neat explanation of this can be extrapolated from the lore.
Interesting. I know I keep saying it, but I mean it, I really want to jump into Panzer Dragoon Saga. If it wasn't for this nagging thing in the back of my mind that wants to play it on original hardware, yes I'm way too aware of how expensive it is but I want to still, then I would've done it already. Maybe this year will be the year I get over not being able to own it and just play it anyway.
I already watched a couple of days ago but I just wanted to say this is very good in-depth retrospective! Also didn’t know this was you I thought you stopped making content a while ago
Thank you so much. I really appreciate you coming back to leave such kind words. I'm not sure if I could ever really stop making stuff. I've been doing it for so long now, granted not always consistently, but I'm pretty sure it's an addiction at this point 😅
Good vid, as it stands I don't really have my own opinion on this as I've never played it (need to find a copy to experience it). But I am a big fan of starfox and I'm looking forward to your video on my favorite game in the series. Star Fox Assault
If you like playing on original hardware it's thankfully not too expensive to pick up since it sold very well. That, or you can explore the ocean and find the undersea animal Dolphin and play it on one of those :) I'm really excited to jump into Assault because I've not played it in such a long time but I remember playing the multiplayer SOOO much. Probably even more than 64.
31:35 Yep. That was me too. Didn't palt this till very recently in my life, but that bit with mashing the button, I almost gave up on the whole damn game because of that bit, and took me over 70 tries. The part I finally gave up was the part with freeing the Apatosaurus from those restraints. 3 and a half hours of crying, yelling, and nearly breaking my controller over that BS. And when I finally got it, I was lsit the next thing, and when I saw I had to do that again, I was like "...Fuck this". I have still yet to muster up the courage to give that a go again.
Just swap Sabre for Fox and done. Make it a side story and no one would care. Well...people would still care but it might have still come out more interesting
the game never tricked you into thinking it would be a normal starfox its clearly called starfox adventures the front of the box shows them there out of the vehicles and all the screenshots on the back show it too why do people pretend like the game was tricking them like that really annoying
I had the same experience with the test of strength! And had to beat it the same way by bracing the controller on the floor and mashing that A button with my whole life! Did not need to know that it was actually so easy 😅
Im glad i had good parents. They actually got me a turbo controller because young me couldnt botton mash fast enough. Turbo controller did it right away
Looking at the Dinosaur Planet demo I'm going "What was Miyamoto thinking?" Just because Krystal was a fox, he wanted it linked to Star Fox? What a mess. I would have played the heck out of their initial draft of the game. I loved this game when it came out and a lot of it was due to how fun it was to play, though I could tell straight away that this was not a good Star Fox game. I was and still am a bit like you, standing at that fork in the road and seeing both sides of the argument. I had a lot of trouble completing the game as a kid because of all the backtracking, I would get bored and walk away from the game. My favorite thing to do was swimming and using the staff tricks to do all sorts of weird shit, I don't actually have a firm memory of facing Andross so I wonder if I even completed the game. I was probably 11 years old when this came out so its possible I didn't. Nonetheless I do think that its beautiful graphically, I found the gameplay a lot of fun and really inventive. Rare also did a really good job of animating Fox's face so that he's recognizable but still able to communicate through facial expressions. That's not a small feat so they deserve credit for that. SFA is strapped somewhere in the Mediocre Valley. Not good enough to be great but not bad enough to be interesting. Poor Rareware.
This is a great summation on feelings I find myself very in tune with. There is some good news though, for something at least a bit fun. The Dinosaur Planet prototype has been completed from the disc that was found, so all available content made at that time is now playable in it's, probably, pre-alpha state. I'll definitely be coming back to play through it. I wanted to share that it's available in case you were interested in trying it out yourself.
6:12 By the sounds of it you are from the US so you might wanna watch where you point that thang, Mess around and recieve 38 warning shots to the back. Great content though mate I'm joining the ranks of your subcribers.
LOLOL!!! In this here country it's shot, or get shot brother. My NES Zapper aint failed me yet. Thanks for subscribing though. That means so much to me. :)
It's such a shame. I wished they would have released the original idea with updated Gamecube Graphics. Because Iam absolutely sure Dinosaur Planet will drag the N64 framrate to 10 or less. Anyway! Nice video. Really good you also covered the beautiful Dinosaur Planet build. It's so bittersweet and sad :(
It won't be the last time I cover Dinosaur Planet. Looks like all of the content is now accessible from the prototype build, as long as you do things in a very particular way, so that alone will have me return to cover everything there is about the game.
I've not played all of them but I'd love to go back and play through the whole series. Embarrassingly I didn't even know there was a Turok 3 until like last year....
@@wangchung2157 I've been slowly working to acquire physical copies of every Turok game so I can now join you at least in our Turok 3 N64 weirdness lol I think the only games I'm missing now are Turok 2 and 3 on the Game Boy Color.
The Legend of Star Fox. Hard pass for me as I don't really think Adventures would be my taste. But I can't wait to see you talk about Assault. That was my first Star Fox even.
I'm excited to cover Assault. I know it's another "controversial" entry but it's a more focused conversation around the game itself rather than like Star Fox Adventures being a Star Fox, Rareware, and Dinosaur Planet all muddied up and everything.
You aren’t the only one that got their ass beat by Musclefoot bro….I had to see him Hotdog and Grandstand…many, many, many times as a kid in middle school. If only I knew about turbo controllers…or had a job. 😂
I wish there was a sequel to star fox adventures personally where Krystal gets reunited with saber Randorn and kyte with help from Fox. It is very sad that rare was bought by microsoft at that time. but probably these days with nintendo and microsoft having a good friend ship maybe banjo might come back.
I would love to see a return to some older Rareware IPs but I just don't think it will actually happen. They do like to acknowledge their history and legacy but practically none of those original staff still exist at Rare, and understandably so the new teams want to focus on new creations. Though I still can't wait for the Dinosaur Planet prototype to be fully playable with what's available in the rom!
What I find funny is dinosaur planet was 99% complete before they switched it over to Starfox and GameCube hell fans have been modding and fixing glitches in the prototype from a few years back to make it 100% playable
!!!!!!! I'm adding this to my project board to cover right now! This is so exciting!
@@Resinbirb I recommend Star Overdrive as a successor to SF Adventures.
Could not agree more. Adventures plus assault is amazing. My favorite games ever honestly.
Stairfax Temperatures
It's in my top 10 for sure, at least in terms of childhood games. The only reason it's not higher is because of a mandatory timed puzzle where you had to shoot fireballs, and I could never beat it because of the awful fireball controls. I never actually finished it as a kid because of that
@@Nerdywolf18 I recommend Star Overdrive as a successor to SF Adventures.

fun fact the game was released september 23 and microsoft bought rare on the 24th
I should've mentioned that in the video. Dang! Great point though.
Krazoa Palace's theme is one of my all-time favorite pieces of video game music. It sounds so good.
It's pretty wonderful huh
Well, because Mario is THAT flexible, Fox it's more of an specialist that focuses on doing one thing and one thing well
Honestly those strength and endurance tests can be beaten by pausing as soon as you get tired.
If I ever get a chance to chat with a Rare developer from that era, this is top3 questions I'm asking
My god dude, I understand your pain with the test of strength part. Back when I was a kid I couldn't do it either. I had to ask my dad to do it for me. So yeah, imagine my dad coming home from work and I was like hey dad, can you press this button for me as fast as you can?
And now you'd probably destroy it in less than 2 seconds lol.
It's such a shame that Star Fox has joined the halls of "Nintendo franchises that will likely only be known through Smash"
Ya...I messed this up 🙁 I wish UA-cam still had annotations so I could just make a small note there. It's a pretty embarrassing screw up.
She also did a bunch of tracks for DKC3 alongside David Wise. She’s a legend
Krystal, like many characters from Dinosaur Planet was going to be axed by Rare from the final game. It was Miyamoto's decision to keep her in since he wanted an attractive fox girl in the series. It would also explain her limited time in the final build.
Lol it would also explain the "sexy time" sax music that plays when Fox first sees her. That scene goes from serious and eventful to weird so fast.
It was also his idea to make her more sexy.
@@renakunisaki That idea perhaps worked too well.
I don't wanna talk about it why is she portrayed as that on the thumbnail@@renakunisaki
Of course it's odd.
Starfox characters are forced shoved in there.
I Love Starfox but they don't belong there.
I just love that line. "They don't belong there." Lol
@@Zerbraxi It would be nice to see her star in her own game just for that reason. I just hope that the devs don't mess it up if they do that.
Really well done! I loved this game so much as a kid. I still think the music and overall atmosphere of this game is so good, but I can never force myself to finish this again 😅
I forced myself to finish it for you :)
35:57 ... I don't think I ever related to anything this hard before.
LOL!!
I pledged to complete Jet Force Gemini this year and it uses the same control method and I'm not thrilled about it
I grew up playing star fox adventures on GameCube in the early 2000's and the 90's was the best super Nintendo mario world from 1991
Super Mario World is beautiful!
@@Zerbraxi yes
I might give Star Fox Adventures a shot... this game is gorgeous!
I think we were all weak. You're in good company 😀
I loved it. but nothing will touch 64
Nothing would make me happier than a game finally eclipsing Star Fox 64. I'm still holding on to that hope. :)
Sorry about your mom 😟
I'll definitely remember this story next time I play
I miss Rare. This is still my favourite game almost 20 years later.
Great point! Also so happy see someone else giving some love to Midnight Club.
@@Zerbraxi I know it will never happen but I wonder how much a remake could improve it
@@thepixeltavern I recommend Star Overdrive as a successor to SF Adventures.
That's so cute. Nothing can ever overpower that feeling of a game you love as a Christmas gift.
@@Zerbraxi I know right! I got Gamecube too, so it was the biggest gift after playstation 2. It was the first game I really really wanted after the Spyro games, SMario 64 Bajo etc..
This game is very nostalgic for me. I've never gone back to it as an adult, but as a kid, I loved it.
As much as I pick on it, please don't let me ruin your fondess for it 😀
It has some awesome moments
I still have that game and it’s the best gamecube game ever
Dang! That's big praise!
Ya, I touched on that later in the video and the change from Princess Kyte to random tutorial bird is so odd.

@@Zerbraxi Maybe Miyamoto didn't want Fox to use a sword??? So Krystal was removed and Fox was given the staff.
I loved this game when i just a wee little shite
Do you still love it as a rather big shite nowadays?
This game was awesome. I dont understand how "starfox elitists" (most of which don't even have 10 hrs in Starfox) complained about this game when there was also Starfox Assault
To give them a little slack, people were pretty upset when this came out mostly because a game like Assault didn't actually exist yet. Honestly, I think the hate on it is pretty overblown almost entirely because several other great Star Fox games do already exist.
Okay yes, hello, hi. I came here to listen about Star Fox Adventures and then 13:41 happened and you my good sir are very much correct. SONY, REMAKE LEGEND OF DRAGOON. pls and thank you, have a good day. carry on.
Preach it!!
I mean, I am no furry or anything but.... but well...
It's all good. You can just own it. Krystal fans seem very welcoming lol 😆
I like this game, I wish it stayed as Dinosaur planet so we could have more of this style gameplay. I went from this to 64 and was like WTF is this?!
Ya the difference the 2 is staggering.
You made me legit laugh out loud with "Imagine that reality, well, we can't...". What a funny line that's also so true.
Omg same!! There's one in particular, the snowboard ramp minigame, that I can't even come close to beating my kid self
Okay Zerb put out a 55min video on SF Adventures … that’s a fuck yes

The test of strength must have got child-me stuck for a year, until I got a turbo-controller. The trick is to start out slow and then go fast once you get a bit of momentum going.

Had me at "Remake Legend of Dragoon"
Waiting for its release is the reason I wake up each day.
The Gerudo in the Zelda series have their own language too.
Very good point Voe. Sarqso.

Maybe we all got... CONFUSED about that game... 20 years ago (Oh man I'm feeling older everyday)
But you got a new SUSCRIBER! How about that?!
Wow!! Thank you so much. I'm definitely not confused about how thankful I am 😀
That bird at the beginning was going to be Krystals sidekick, like Tricky to Saber (Fox)
I think I ended up mentioning that near the end when I started going over Dinosaur Planet, but if I didn't state that then whoops!
@@shreksnow1918 I recommend Star Overdrive as a successor to SF Adventures.
@orangeslash1667 I’ll be sure to check that out. Thanks for the recommendation👍
It's one of my favourite games from Star Fox franchise
Nice!! You seem to be in good company based on a lot of others similar feelings in the comments.
DUDE I STRUGGLED WITH THAT DAMN TEST OF STRENGTH AS A KID TOO
I'm so glad I'm in good company!
@@Zerbraxi you described my struggle verbatim
I could never get past that test.. and the game started off good.. I gave up after I couldn’t pass the test of strength
@@BlkAuDiS401 I recommend Star Overdrive as a successor to SF Adventures.
30:51 same I got stuck on that part to, I had my friends older brother do it ,he did it with a pencil it was a trick .
Wait...what was this pencil trick?
I've been doing it for so long now, granted not always consistently, but I'm pretty sure it's an addiction at this point 😅
how do you not have at least 10 times the amount of subs you have? This is great!
Thank you so much :) that's very kind of you
Good vid, as it stands I don't really have my own opinion on this as I've never played it (need to find a copy to experience it). But I am a big fan of starfox and I'm looking forward to your video on my favorite game in the series. Star Fox Assault
If you like playing on original hardware it's thankfully not too expensive to pick up since it sold very well. That, or you can explore the ocean and find the undersea animal Dolphin and play it on one of those :)
I'm really excited to jump into Assault because I've not played it in such a long time but I remember playing the multiplayer SOOO much.
All that frustration just for the twist ending... it's rough
Put that down!!! You don’t have enough scarabs!!
*increment bid by 1 scarab and try again*
Y'know all things considered if Nintendo was so dead set on adding fox, they definitely didn't need to butcher or alter so much of the original vision
Just swap Sabre for Fox and done. Make it a side story and no one would care. Well...people would still care but it might have still come out more interesting
I 1000000% related to the test of strength part. Love it.
Test of Strength was legit trauma for any child back then. Therapy for years to overcome those insecurities.
the game never tricked you into thinking it would be a normal starfox its clearly called starfox adventures the front of the box shows them there out of the vehicles
and all the screenshots on the back show it too
why do people pretend like the game was tricking them like that really annoying
It's funny because I'm pretty sure I made this exact comment as well in the video.
oh yea i was just tricked by the part where you pretended to have that dumb opinion@@Zerbraxi
I had the same experience with the test of strength! And had to beat it the same way by bracing the controller on the floor and mashing that A button with my whole life! Did not need to know that it was actually so easy 😅
I was pissed when I beat it for this video lol. All of that frustration for all these years... for nothing....
I remember having my dad beat the test of strength for me as a kid. I was only 8 years old at the time.
That's actually a really cute story
Im glad i had good parents. They actually got me a turbo controller because young me couldnt botton mash fast enough. Turbo controller did it right away
@kstreet7438 that is seriously God tier parenting right there
Looking at the Dinosaur Planet demo I'm going "What was Miyamoto thinking?" Just because Krystal was a fox, he wanted it linked to Star Fox?
Anyway! Nice
video.
I love this game so much
I'm glad!! What's your favorite part?
Krystal exists because of this game so I can't complain about that.
LOL, that seems like a commonly shared opinion :)
Oh yeah. Button mashing. The one thing that trained my fingers so well.. that even my exes back then had something from it.
Gaming is helpful in so many ways. I'm happy you've been able to share your gift with others ;)
Let's see how tough you are
This guy's girlfriend
Bro needed that double thumb MarioKart Double Dash A button smash
What is this double thumb black magic you speak of? I'm all about that on floor index finger slamming action!
Stairfax Temperatures
So good the comment came through twice.
The Turok games even Evolution are pretty great
I've not played all of them but I'd love to go back and play through the whole series.
Embarrassingly I didn't even know there was a Turok 3 until like last year....
@@Zerbraxiea people flip out when I bust out my N64 copy when I get asked whats an obscure game I own
@@wangchung2157 I've been slowly working to acquire physical copies of every Turok game so I can now join you at least in our Turok 3 N64 weirdness lol
I think the only games I'm missing now are Turok 2 and 3 on the Game Boy Color.
Wait you could haggle in that game?!
Oh no... he ripped you off didn't he?
The Legend of Star Fox. Hard pass for me as I don't really think Adventures would be my taste. But I can't wait to see you talk about Assault. That was my first Star Fox even.
I'm excited to cover Assault. I know it's another "controversial" entry but it's a more focused conversation around the game itself rather than like Star Fox Adventures being a Star Fox, Rareware, and Dinosaur Planet all muddied up and everything.
Love the video.
Thank you so much!
You aren’t the only one that got their ass beat by Musclefoot bro….I had to see him Hotdog and Grandstand…many, many, many times as a kid in middle school.
If only I knew about turbo controllers…or had a job. 😂
Turbo controllers were reserved for the very special of us out there.
It looks like they're almost there too. Once it's 100% I'll definitely be back to give it a final go.
