Ugh. There is no franchise on the planet that I want a revival for more than this one, no matter how pointless that hope may be. So goddamn underrated.
@@Chubby_Bubby I'll admit, I still bring and use a drill for cleaning fossils when playing Frontier, albeit mostly for fossils like Edapho, Dimetro, most long-necked vivosaurs, and light durability rocks (read: easily broken by high power tools) and such, as those are easy 100-point excavations. I still understand how cleaning was butchered in Frontier, as well as everything else about it, but I believe is a massive case of "good idea, poor execution" as well as viewing Frontier as "wasted potential incarnate" regarding story.
I loved that the BB Brigade had skeletal dinosaurs as opposed to regular ones, even if they were just evil team grunts having them made them feel more expressive even if they were the same 7 mixed about
Holy crap I’ve been playing the Fossil Fighters games for a decade and I only learned today that when the medals gleam, that means they can use a team skill together. Wow! Great vid, it’s always awesome to see people talking about this criminally underrated game series! :D
Thank You so much! I put alot of effort into these videos, and it's always nice to hear someone enjoys the video. As for Fossil Fighters it's such a fun creative series, I really hope it comes back in some way shape or form in the future! Either a new game or some inspired by it would be perfect 👌
I picked up the first Fossil Fighters when I was in early middle school because I liked dinosaurs and wanted something similar to my loved Pokemon. I distinctly remember my mom taking my DS away for the night and I specifically waited until she fell asleep to grab it because I was in the Dinaurian's spaceship and I NEEDED to defeat King Dynal. To this day, a dozen years later, it holds the position as one of two games to keep me up all night (Fossil Fighters and Kingdom Hearts), which is a feat because I love my sleep lol Still adore and still occasionally play the first and second game to this day. Frontier? ...well, I gave it a solid 6-10 hour attempt, then I gave it to a friend who wanted to try it out. We both agreed it was best to just throw it in a dark corner of the closet. I think they still have it, but maybe they sold it. I couldn't care less lol.
As a person who played Fossil Fighters & Champions to death when they were younger, I truly miss this series. I still have my games and continue to dig up bones and see what Dinosaurs I get. My favorite Vivosaur is Teffla from Champions. Amazing series and videos of one of my favorite games!
@Chubby_Bubby Amazing choice. Ngl as a kid I completely disregarded the story saying "Who is this skeleton man and why is he stopping me from advancing? Oh well time to get Dinos!" And kept pushing through. It was literally years later thar I realized this game had a story 😭😭
27:37 If you talk with a Dinaurian during the disguised segment of the Starship, they'll explain that the Dinaurians' battle forms are advanced holographic combat tech. The reason only the big three have the ability to transform is that the technology is still in a prototype phase.
It's like the "real solid vision" from the Yugioh anime. Similar holographic technology is what gives the vivosaurs physical form from their medals. So the holographic technology the Dinaurians have is basically a transformation, but not really.
Dude, you're unleashing memories I had nearly forgotten of as a child, now being a college student. The adult jokes that always stopped just shy of toeing the UA-cam line, then commenting on it being a child's game were always funny. You seriously opened my eyes a bit as well to some of the finer points of the games' plot and design aspects as well, since it's been so long, and I appreciate them a lot more now that I'm older. Like many others, I am one of the few dreaming about a revival (ha ha, get it?) of this series in some capacity, even if it is for tomorrow's generations. You know what, if it's not out in 10 years, who knows, I am studying Video Game Design after all. . .
For the champions story twist, I remember playing it as a kid and being completely caught off guard. I assumed Joe just lived such a busy life he wouldn't remember us, and Barebones recognized us from tournament coverage
Honestly to add onto this 'Don Boneyard' making threats to his admins never really struck me as more than 'yo stupid what made you think that was smart' only done with more bone puns and a bit of your dad asking if you're okay mixed in. Like I know it's never shown anywhere but it's a vibe I get. The admins are just scared of having a father figure be temporarily disappointed with them. Joe having a go at the islands themselves could even be explained as him being scared of what could happen if Zongazonga breaches containment and going to an extreme measure driven more by fear in that moment and making a bad call (nobody's perfect). His lies are also not really all that deep, since he just didn't want everyone to freak all the way out by saying anything too revealing that he'd been body snatched... As umm... How do you think the public would take that? Either laugh it off or get really freaked out.
I'm glad I convinced somebody to give Frontier an honest try. But at the same time I'm scared that it's downsides might make you not enjoy it. 😅 You'll have to let me know how u like the game so I know whether or not to keep CATIOUSLY recommended it people.
@@Chubby_Bubby Don't worry to much it's mostly for collection sake and even if I don't enjoy it too much, it's still an interesting piece nonetheless. In the end, I actually also got champion on the DS so it evens out haha
As someone who has own and played all three Fossil Fighters games growing up I truly do believe that this series deserves a second chance of life again and more games made. Am glad the love for this series hasn’t extinguished and fallen into true obscurity. Am happy some people are talking about this series and truly hope Nintendo does revive the series again someday.
Watching this has made me wanna make a Fossil Fighters RPG campaign, the original Fossil Fighters was one of the very first DS games I got when I got my DSi on Christmas and I will always treasure this series till the day I die.
I never quite understood why they never used the dinosaur aliens again. I mean a horror themed temporal conflict between shapeshifting dinosaur aliens, body snatching litches, and bioengineering terminators powered by darkness sounds like it would be a pretty crazy concept.
This franchise was such a big part of my life and it is so nice to see people giving it the love that it deserves. Even now, i itch to play FFC in new runs with new teams and restrictions
As a gremlin I was obsessed with dinos. I read every book in the school library and public library over dinosaurs. Fossil fighters fueled that obsession and I remember making fossil fighters themed school projects
1:18:11 the shortening of the real dino names is one of the points of the series. As a learning game. While stylized all the design convey the real dino they are based on to teach kids actual dinosaur info. The shortening is so kids can learn the real names the actual real info the dino is based on in the library/fossilary too. It made the names of the dinos more memorable both in the game and in real life
as a long time fan of the series, it's refreshing to see someone praise Todd's character in champions. I always thought he was super overhated and had really cool development.
2:03:09 -ish This is a moment where I go, "Why not both?" Because both being able to walk/run around and dig up fossils at a location and being able to drive around and see dinos appeal to me.
Haven't gotten around to playing frontier but saw some walkthroughs and I honestly thought about this when I saw the gameplay, the bone buggies would be a great feature for the dig sites if implemented differently. They could have made all the dig sites mainly cater to the bone buggies but have walking sections that are more "off the path" that reward you for exploration or skillful driving (maybe you need an upgraded vehicle to access some of them). It could also remove the pay to dig sites that were in the first two games and I think it would be an improvement as it would feel more earned than paying a fee after a point in the story. They could also design the walking places so that the fossils are still in the walls and you carry limited equipment to make cleaning more challenging which would ideally match the player's skill as they progress in the game. Or they could also just make fossil cleaning happen at the dig sites and remove the whole "running back and forth" mechanic in the first games. I don't like the rogue vivosaurs though, I think they would be good for story beats or side quests, but they feel too much like wild pokemon to me. Frontiers threw some good ideas out there but man, it sucks that it was held back by glaring issues.
As a long-time Fossil Fighters fan, I love how well this video acts as an introduction for people who aren't familiar to this series but also a revisit for those who are. This series is what got me into video games at all and I'll always love it for it. The first 2 games are my favorites and I'll always stand for them, and as much as I ignore the existence of the 3rd it does have its positives. I'm glad this video exists since it reminds me that there are still passionate FF fans around, and hopefully we get a new game in the future. Also that meme at the end was well worth it lmao
I think he forgot to mention the announcers in battle it’s not even like madden level commentary but it’s funny and cute and makes the game super endearing
I have a few gripes with frontiers but i still enjoyed the game (ik thats not exactly what your comment it pointing out but im just giving my opinion) the few things i dont like are some of the vivosaur designs, the fact that you can only have a team of 3 if the other 2 parts of your team are npcs instead of being controlled by you. But really other than that i enjoyed frontiers. I see why its hated though
Was randomly thinking about fossil fighters and just finished watching your retrospective on the first one. Seeing this got posted 6 hours ago brought a smile to my face :’)
Between this game and spectrobes, I miss the whole "dig up fossils, revive, fight monsters" game design 😭 when will an indie dev give us a good spiritual successor a la stardew for harvest moon
It would be very controversial, yet so cool if they made a Fossil Fighters game on the switch that incorporated undocking it and using the touch screen to clean fossils. Like if in-universe, your character is also doing that to a touch screen interface.
Brooooo the nostalgia im getting just seeing this game again after so many years is insane i loved this game as a kid sadly I never finished the game at that time tho ;-;
you've got the time travel bit with frontier a little mixed up - the reason why we don't see any changes is because Tria always goes back in time to stop Dreadraven - but that still needs to happen, Tria just can't sit idle thinking that dreadraven failed. Otherwise it's a paradox OTHERWISE FANTASTIC VID BRO love your passion for these games. I'm sure fossil fighters will come back one day in all its glory.
I think a good replacement for the vehicles that keeps the usage but doesn't make people mad about cars is to just have dino mounts, and giving them little saddlebags for the tools and stuff
every couple of years or so just the thought of a fossil fighters sequel gets me so excited... The switch is near the end of its cycle and no new game.. but just when i give up hope my interest is "revived" and i can't help but still continue to fight for it.
as a paleo nerd, it amazes me how much care they put on not just the battle strategies, but also the designs of the vivosaurs that are referenced by their name, where their fossils located, and their strange history (seriously, i could go on and on about these designs) ok, maybe one which is the T-rex for a game made in 2008, this is one the very first portrayals of feathers in a t-rex, also adding more personality on it by making the feathers into a fiery mohawk (i know recent discoveries show t- rex has little feathers, but its just that many movies and games just portray so many rexes with the same scaly template). Its very unfortunate that i got frontier bcuz i miss the series so much, only to be met with so much dissappointment and annoying mechanics mandatory on your playthrough. Not to mention the cut roster and butchering their designs (i feel sorry for the hadrosaurs in this game, their basically giant rubber duckies, once again a terrible example of making hadrosaurs look useless and harmless when thats not the case.) brother, the fact that you made a 2 hour long video about fossil fighters just fills me with joy. Just hearing you talk about the positives of the first 2 games is awesome. keep up this video format WE FOSSIL FIGHTER FANS WILL LET THEM KNOW THAT THIS FRANCHISE SHALL NEVER GO EXTINCT IN OUR HEARTS!!!!!
As a monster fanatic, I'm always on the prowl for new series to get into. This one kind of gives me a Monster Rancher vibe in a way, so I think I'll give it a shot at some point. Though I may steer clear of the third one - don't really like the sound of not being able to control all of my party members in battle.
I've actually not tried monster rancher myself so I can't speak to how nuch FF is too it. But I hope enjoy the series if you get into it. i can't blame you on that third one, frontiers is a rough game. That I'd only recommend if somebody was already interested in the series or intersted in an "okay" mariokart/pokemon hybrid.
Yeah it was pretty odd to me when doing the research for this video. That I didn't see anyone really discussing how obvious of a theme champions seems to have. "Facing your fears" is an aspect of most of the character's arcs in champions, and it was especially apparent with Todd! I'm glad someone else could also relate with the lil green king, I still rep him as the best "friend" character in all of monster taming! 😤 #nocap #frfr #onzonga
@@Chubby_BubbyI honestly loved the whole “facing your fears” concept, not just with Todd (the most obvious example and the only one I really thought much about in that lens) but with EVERYTHING about champions. Learning something new about these games even a decade later; I’m surprised I didn’t notice the overarching theme of the game earlier (I was a dumb kid I didn’t connect the dots lol) but it just further secures it as my favorite in the series
@@Chubby_Bubby also the fact that green is my favorite color, he uses primarily air types, major anxiety but still picks fights, getting left out of friend group camping trips half the time, getting jealous FOR being left out, like bruh me fr fr
Oooof, core memories unearthed and revived. I first found out about this gem of a series with the Wii Shop download demo (does anybody even remember that existed?), and I instantly fell in love. I must have been no older than 10 years old. Anyways, I really like the... uh, "colorful" way you explain things you don't like, and I 100% agree on almost everything you said about them! Though I was kinda expecting you to gush about the Vivosaur's designs, but still! 3 *HOURS* of Fossil Fighters content to revive (heh) my love for the first two (and only) games. Also, 10/10 puns. As a pun enthusiast, you actually got me to say "ugh" out loud. Congrats, that got you a new sub!
For those curious and stuck in fossil fighters post game. Not only does the new guy in the top of the shop tell you what you can do. But if you are trying to get to the yeti side quest. You need to spend 80,000 on Four oasis seeds. Once All four Oasis's are planted, only then will you unlock the yeti side quest post game. And the more Oasis you plant, max four. The more rare fossils you can find. Also Fossil frontier was probably my personal Favorite, although Fossil fighters and Fossil fighters champions are defiantly close if not tied. Just loved the story and characters of Frontier same with both fossil fighters and fossil fighters champions as well.
I got the first game in the series by sheer luck. My mom was looking for dinosaur games on the DS because either Christmas or my birthday was coming up (I don't remember which atm) or maybe because she just wanted to expand my game list... I can't really remember I was like... 11? Maybe? She was looking at the local GameStop invventory on her computer (Back when they were pretty reputable compared to now.) to see what was in stock. Originally I wanted to get Dino Pets for the ds and she went to get it because there was like only one copy, the guy at the store steered her away telling her it received a lot of bad reviews. Instead he recommended Fossil Fighters, something more engaging and I think she did mention I was playing pokemon and mystery dungeon at the time, so I was familiar with turn based combat. So she bought it and told me why I didn't get Dino Pets, case and point I ended up loving the game! I never finished it, I got stonewalled at Duna's fight at the Volcano. I did end up asking for the sequels so I have physical copies of all three games. I'm currently replaying FFC to finish it because if the whole 3DS wifi shut-down. I have the DLC, but I still want to see this game to the end :). What I find really neat if you played FF first is it teaches you to clean better! Before every rank up match you have to clean a fossil to a certain minimum level which increases over time. While it never gets above 80 points, usually by then you get so detailed and quick you start naturally cleaning to 90+ points on a regular. As for the buster probes.... the bigger/more to clean fossils don't have buster points..... so you can't use buster probes on em. Not all regular fossils have buster points either and you can find buster points without the probe if ur lucky/careful enough. What was really funny when I revived Carno for the first time in FF, I got so excited I ran downstairs to show my parents.... thing was... I Was supposed to be sleeping! Not playing my video games! Final note: Your cleaning scares me... I cringe so much at your recklessness.
I never got around to playing Champions or Frontier, but the original Fossil Fighters was always one of my favorite games growing up. Seeing this video pop into my suggested was a pleasant surprise and its nice to see that there's still an active community for the series. Hope one day we can eventually get a revival that lives up to the original!
I did a video like this myself a few years back, it's such a great game. The fact even over a DECADE later, we're still talking, making videos on it, let's playing it just...that speaks to the power of this game. Much love, and many thanks for making this, and showing this series is still alive.
As someone who has put in probably over 800 hours into this game since I was 7. I LOVE THIS GAME! For the comparable Pokémon game I was playing at the time, black and white, this game’s was incredible in comparison!
The upgraded cleaning equipment is useful for tougher fossils. Usually some of the dark fossil and regular rocks are easier to clean the top layer with the upgraded hammer. The upgraded drill is less helpful, but does clean faster. The problem with the drill is that you shouldn’t keep it on the fossil after it gives you the high pitched sound of drill on bone. Also KL-33N when fully trained can clean between 90 and 100 points for all fossil rocks other than new or dark. The robot can also clean jewel rocks too to the same points. One thing that I find frustrating is that in order to revive them all you need to repeatedly get into some areas in order to get fossils that sometimes cost an absurd amount of gold to get (aka. go into pay to dig site pay 3000g each visit just for a chance for rare dino parts). It could take hours and millions of gold to get all of them. I should know, I'm still trying to get all of them. I also always pick Duna when I replay FF1. Duna seems more mature than Rosie and Duna is the authority on Ghunash. I also agree that I like to see the bratty rich kid Rosie put in her place by getting back the hilarious Digadig accent and then be transformed into her regression ray mouse form on top of that.
As an Australian, I cant tell you how sad I was Sydney never came back. I turned my accent up 10 notches are read his dialoguem with such glee, it almost made the game a 4/10 experience for me.
Frontier was only one released in Europe so its the only one I've played. Played through it 3 times when it first game out and I called it my favourite video game ever made Thanks for explaining why the community doesn't like it, i never really knew why. Hopefully I can get to the rest of the series someday soon (Also yeah my profile is very subtle)
I love this series, and have so many memories with it. Back in like 2018, after not playing the game for a decade, my friends and I were discussing nostalgic games, and found out we played the same game. The thing is, we hadn’t! I had played the original thinking it was the only FF, and they had played Champions thinking it’s the only FF, so they got really confused when I mentioned the human-dinosaur hybrid aliens and their giant planet eater
I'm so impressed by how a fully 3d full length dinosaur turn based rpg was able to make two full games (one with improved graphics and animation quality) on the itty bitty ds system. I really hope they revive this franchise with a new game like the first and second one, frontiers was such a let down
My boyfriend introduced me to this game (he's had it since he was in middle school) and I can confidently say that it is AMAZING I haven't finished it yet, tho lol but so far it's great just a little grind-y lolol
Fossil fighters frontier is my childhood! Played it a lot and still play it, all thanks to my friend who gave me it. These games are truly Classics! In fact, I’m playing it as I comment this.
Yeah, someone else who loves Frontier! It was also my childhood and it really saddens me to see almost everyone on the internet HATE it. So thank you for showing me that I'm not alone in my deep love for this game.
In order to start the yeti quest you have to randomly find the creature while digging on Coldfeet Glacier. Only once you’ve randomly seen it can you start the quest.
Growing up I really loved dinosaurs, Like alot. I remember watching my brother play ff1 and champions and would sometimes mess around on his save. When Frontier came out I thought it was weird and didn't bother with finishing it. Sometime last year I remembered the game and decided to replay the first for nostalgia. I was blown away by it stood up. I really loved every thing about it. It's kinda sad that it's not that popular because of how just fun it is. Hopefully Nintendo will bless us with a game on the next console. Also in the part about champions where you there mention being no dinaurians, You can battle Duna but I think it's locked to dlc. Final thing great video ❤
1:09:52 For Fossil fighters champion there is “backward” compatibility to get the other body parts for the older vivasaurs but you need two ds or someone else who played the first game.
This was one of my favorite DS games. I never had anyone else to play them with but I’m glad to find other people like them as well. This video really brings me back. Thanks for explain frontier because I never got to play that one!
As someone who loved both the original fossil fighters and loves pokemon, I think pokemon could learn a lot from fossil fighters, especially when it comes to battling. The fossil fighters system is essentially somewhere between triple battles and rotation battles, but The ability to manouver vivasaurs into the back slot, the side slots having to reach more and do less damage but provide good support buffs, and the resorce management of the battlepoint makes for a FAR mar engaging, dynamic, strategic , and overall enjoyable experience and provides a lot of room for strategy and customization. Despite a much smaller roster of creatures and attacks, fossil fighters manages to get more out of each induvidual creature with its battle system than pokemon gets out of any of its far larger roster of moves and creatures in its simplistic 1v1 rock/paper/scizors system. If fossil fighters can get so much more out of its small roster than pokemon can, just think how much more engaging would pokemon games be if, say, the game was built around a simmilar rotation/triple battle system. Edit: also, the pre battle selection screen is absolutely goated. Not being able to take all your vivasaurs into a battle (but theyre still in your team and gain XP) adds another layer of dynamic choice to the game so you can have multiple different strategies depending on who youre taking into the battle. Ironically, this is something the pokemon anime has, but no the pokemon games.
I hope this game franchise comes back. I'd love an open world Bone Buggy areas with aspects of Super Revivals, better graphics, better sound design and just a good return to an early Yugioh/Digimon esque story? I'd prebuy it in a heartbeat, just like if they returned Spectrobes to the world
Seeing people still making Fossil Fighters content in 2023 warms my heart and drives me insane in such a positive way. I’ve been working on my current FFC save file to complete the entire fossil index (which means completing the skeleton of EVERY Vivosaur (that is possible for me to get to)) and that undertaking is currently tiding me over while I hope and pray for more content. If Fossil Fighters gets revived (pun intended) I will be so incredibly happy. Thank you for making these videos! It was so nice to hear someone (that isn’t me, for once) talking about the little dinosaur series that’s so dear to me. ( ´∀`)
@@pablothememer8686 I did! I’m ridiculously happy to see the Dinaurians again. I had the DLC stuff legitimately on my original cartridge, but it unfortunately got lost a long time ago. I’m super grateful to the people that created the fan-run connection for allowing me to get it back!
I love this game. Always have, always will. Dinosaurs are my passion and Duna was my childhood crush next to Azula from Avatar and Runo from Bakugan. Thank you for putting a spotlight on this game. You did my fellow paleo nerds a service. Also, Rex is an English Bulldog. Hence the accent.
Fossil Fighters and FFC especially has a special place in my heart. I remember my father picking up the first game used at Gamestop when I was probably around eight or nine, and I was hooked the moment I saw you could make dinosaurs fight other dinos. Must've done at least ten playthroughs of FFC over the years, loved using a team of Deltadromeus, Sinosauropteryx, and mah boi Compsothagnus, cause this comp really stressed using the battling system in FFC to it's fullest, rewarding good positioning and elemental matchups, and all three having FP boost made it a lot of fun to keep blasting out team skills or Sopteryx's 100% confuse move. Also since I was reading Animorphs at the time I was convinced the Dinaurians being able to turn into combat forms was a physical thing, not holograms, and I thought the holograms were limited to human disguises. Rambling aside this game was a major part of my childhood and while I never played Frontiers cause I didn't like the vibe and the cars for some reason, I always love seeing people remembering the games fondly, and I'd absolutely grab a FFC remake if it ever happens.
Everytime I see someone mentioning Fossil Fighters a smile creeps across my face, because I really hope one day they'll remaster the first game, or hell even add a new entry, or just make the first game playable on switch!
Came in my recommened middle of work. Going to watch this whole video. Loved the games. Im 23 now and the DS for me was my favorite handheld like most kids. (Though the psp was significantly before its time.) These games made me obsessed. I would play for hours learn every odd team setup and comp. I loved learning the synergy between teams. The 'super battles' in my own eyes that were the post game optional bosses. All so good.
Fossil Fighters Champions, one of the bests. Great charachters, super fun, good strategy, good variety of dinos and... incredible well done story. I really liked this digagame xD.
oh my god i thought i hallucinated the three hour fossil fighter analysis, it showed up once in my recs then disappeared! i love the first two games to death-- frankly when I first played champions I thought the plot was so short. like beating the final boss of champions felt like the legendary fight halfway in the first game-- a good fight, sure, but it missed the significantly better latter half of the plot! todd is a real one no matter what though 💯 my favorite conspiracy theory: joe the medal dealer from the first game is actually joe wildewest in the second. we already saw him beginning to turn his life around by selling real fossils. he cleaned up his life and, as a lifelong thespian, commited to the wild west bit. I have no evidence for this but i believe it in my heart
I like that theory alot actually, "Joe wildwest, bandit turned folk hero~" bet that would make a killer movie trilogy in the FF universe lol. ALSO TODD IS THE REALEST ONE OF ALL TIME!!
I was waiting to finish my first playthrough of Frontier to watch your retrospective on it. Looks like I’ll have to wait a little longer since I’m 100% watching this video despite watching the other 2 parts already lol
the first fossil fighters game I played was the second one and honestly its one of my favorite games because it gives the satisfying feeling of being one of those cliche anime protags that were popular in the 2000's all in a game that didn’t feel like some absurdly long rpg or something. talk with friends, get cool masks, defeat a bunch of enemys and save the day it felt so rewarding not to mention the satisfaction of getting all the dinosaurs unlike the pokemon games where it feels like some sort of resident evil puzzle for some of them.
I have such fond memories of Champions, and I had gotten Frontiers and the original after but didn't finish either of them I don't think. Now all these years after I remembered the game and I've gotten so hype to try and go back to play them all. Its so nice to see someone cover content from this game, I loved Champions a lot and I hope to have fun actually playing through the other two, though I am considering maybe going Frontiers>Original>Champions or even just reverse chronologic order instead of chronological order cuz I wanna end the marathon on a high note. Thank you for covering this and I'm probably gonna come back to watch so I can see the spoiler sections after my runs!
Fun fact for fossil fighters frontier, if you can find the passwords to put in, you can get some pretty good dinos to play with in story mode till you upgrade and find better ones.
At first I was hyped for another FF video from you then I realized it was the collection of them. Either way always a good watch, also I respect the one piece referemce 50:08
I have a few ideas for some more FF content. But as far as reviews go this is sadly it til we get a new game. Which I hope happens one day. Also hell yeah peak fiction ☠️
I’m also a fan who gives Frontier credit for the quality of life improvements. Some of the challenge routes are complete BS though, especially the one in Frozen Wastes. It’s nearly impossible!
Ugh. There is no franchise on the planet that I want a revival for more than this one, no matter how pointless that hope may be. So goddamn underrated.
Agreed
Dawg I'd give my big toe if they'd at least make a remake of one of the first two. Another game would be awesome
Haha, “revival.” I see what you did there.

The medals gleaming will make it so much easier to team build than having to actually test each one in battle.

I wish I experienced these games as a kid. I would've been obsessed 😭 BTW that's a great favorite 🦋 mine personally is spinax!
Would like to see Zongazonga as a boss in Super Smash 6 if it gets made.
I never even thought to talk to any of them...
I prefer to think they can transform ya know?
I'd like to head canon that older generations of Dinaurians had the ability to transform. But lost it over time due to losing their planet.
God I loved fossil fighters. Happy to see someone talk about it in youtube.
There's still a very lively community on it, I know I got plans for another champions series.
and we play for another game, maybe a remake?
Two of the best games of all time...and frontier
God I hope that wasn't the finale please let spike make a good one
Thats a good point, I remeber them planting those ideas in the story to help hide the twist better.
Awesome retrospective, this was the reason I bought Frontier even with all the downside, this is a game part of a series that should not be forgotten.
I'm glad I convinced somebody to give Frontier an honest try. But at the same time I'm scared that it's downsides might make you not enjoy it. 😅
You'll have to let me know how u like the game so I know whether or not to keep CATIOUSLY recommended it people.
@@Chubby_Bubby Don't worry to much it's mostly for collection sake and even if I don't enjoy it too much, it's still an interesting piece nonetheless.
In the end, I actually also got champion on the DS so it evens out haha
@@HiroEmblem Thank Goodness 😮💨
As someone who has own and played all three Fossil Fighters games growing up I truly do believe that this series deserves a second chance of life again and more games made. Am glad the love for this series hasn’t extinguished and fallen into true obscurity. Am happy some people are talking about this series and truly hope Nintendo does revive the series again someday.
I almost teared up when I heard the opening theme for Fossil Fighters DS. That shit was my childhood
I will never fail to get a gleeful smile each time I'm reminded that Nevada Montecarlo is a fusion between Indiana Jones and Carmen Sandiego.
41:23 Imagine if instead of diga-dig talk and turning into a mouse being separate problems, Rosie turns and starts squeaking in diga-dig too
2:03:09 -ish
This is a moment where I go, "Why not both?" Because both being able to walk/run around and dig up fossils at a location and being able to drive around and see dinos appeal to me.
Seriously, just go on to the Fossil Fighters subreddit and you'll see how much Fossil Fighters: Frontier is hated amongst the people on there.
It actually has a unique charm that’s is for sure different from the other two but I still love it.
@@LacTose90the problem is that it had to live up to its previous two games, and it most certainly did not do that
I have a few gripes with frontiers but i still enjoyed the game (ik thats not exactly what your comment it pointing out but im just giving my opinion) the few things i dont like are some of the vivosaur designs, the fact that you can only have a team of 3 if the other 2 parts of your team are npcs instead of being controlled by you. But really other than that i enjoyed frontiers. I see why its hated though
Was randomly thinking about fossil fighters and just finished watching your retrospective on the first one.
Seeing this got posted 6 hours ago brought a smile to my face :’)
Your welcome ;)
Between this game and spectrobes, I miss the whole "dig up fossils, revive, fight monsters" game design 😭 when will an indie dev give us a good spiritual successor a la stardew for harvest moon
It would be very controversial, yet so cool if they made a Fossil Fighters game on the switch that incorporated undocking it and using the touch screen to clean fossils. Like if in-universe, your character is also doing that to a touch screen interface.
That sounds really cool tbh, but I could only play it in handheld cause I'd be too lazy to get off the couch every time 💺🦥
This inspired me to pick up Fossil Fighters again and truly upgrade my star team again to 100% it. Genuinely the most fun I've had in weeks
Brooooo the nostalgia im getting just seeing this game again after so many years is insane i loved this game as a kid sadly I never finished the game at that time tho ;-;
you've got the time travel bit with frontier a little mixed up - the reason why we don't see any changes is because Tria always goes back in time to stop Dreadraven - but that still needs to happen, Tria just can't sit idle thinking that dreadraven failed. Otherwise it's a paradox
OTHERWISE FANTASTIC VID BRO love your passion for these games.
The switch is near the end of its cycle and no new game.. but just when i give up hope my interest is "revived" and i can't help but still continue to fight for it.
as a paleo nerd, it amazes me how much care they put on not just the battle strategies, but also the designs of the vivosaurs that are referenced by their name, where their fossils located, and their strange history (seriously, i could go on and on about these designs)
ok, maybe one which is the T-rex
for a game made in 2008, this is one the very first portrayals of feathers in a t-rex, also adding more personality on it by making the feathers into a fiery mohawk (i know recent discoveries show t- rex has little feathers, but its just that many movies and games just portray so many rexes with the same scaly template).
Its very unfortunate that i got frontier bcuz i miss the series so much, only to be met with so much dissappointment and annoying mechanics mandatory on your playthrough. Not to mention the cut roster and butchering their designs (i feel sorry for the hadrosaurs in this game, their basically giant rubber duckies, once again a terrible example of making hadrosaurs look useless and harmless when thats not the case.)
brother, the fact that you made a 2 hour long video about fossil fighters just fills me with joy. Just hearing you talk about the positives of the first 2 games is awesome. keep up this video format
WE FOSSIL FIGHTER FANS WILL LET THEM KNOW THAT THIS FRANCHISE SHALL NEVER GO EXTINCT IN OUR HEARTS!!!!!
That I'd only recommend if somebody was already interested in the series or intersted in an "okay" mariokart/pokemon hybrid.
you could also use a mask in a location with no vivasuars of the type to farm wondrous, miraculous, dark, and jewel rocks
Just downloaded on my hacked 3ds, I forgot about this gem of a game.
Also holy fuck I never related so much with Todd until this video stated his entire character arc plainly dayum
Spinax imo is one of the best designed vivosaurs on the whole roster. It always stays on my team no matter how many times I replay the game.
I'm doing a nuzlock style playthrough in champions and omg. This game is so special
Let me clarify, loved gen 5, one of my favorite Pokémon games, but damn this game was great.
*3 HOUR LONG FOSSIL FIGHTERS VIDEO IN 2023 LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOO*
for champions the dinorians are dlc quests where after you beat them in order you get them in order and the robo dino
I’m playing fossil fighters again because of this video so thank you
I actually liked the Barebones joke but thats me. 😅
I freaking love Frontiers! I really want a Switch port!
I played the OG game so much as a kid and loved it but never checked out any of the others
As soon as you made the "I have a type " joke, I laughed a lot, because that's so absurd... Then I cried because it actually did that to me.
Played through it 3 times when it first game out and I called it my favourite video game ever made
Thanks for explaining why the community doesn't like it, i never really knew why. Hopefully I can get to the rest of the series someday soon
(Also yeah my profile is very subtle)
The OST in og Fossil Fighters is incredible. Dynal's theme is the best song in the game.
Fossil fighters and fossil fighters champions will go down as some of the best games of all time in my book
@@omegaglacial YEAAA!
Loved the video. keep up the good work. Man, I really wish fossil fighters would make a comeback.
Absolutely fantastic video. Loved your storytelling and formatting. Thanks for letting me delve back into a franchise I’ve missed for quite some time!
I would say Ty Ranno and Trip Cera are both Dinaurians, probably.
In order to start the yeti quest you have to randomly find the creature while digging on Coldfeet Glacier. Only once you’ve randomly seen it can you start the quest.
Fossil fighters champions was so fucking good.
You downloaded the extra data from the fan run Wi-Fi connection right?
@@pablothememer8686 I did! I’m ridiculously happy to see the Dinaurians again. I had the DLC stuff legitimately on my original cartridge, but it unfortunately got lost a long time ago. I’m super grateful to the people that created the fan-run connection for allowing me to get it back!
Frontier was my first Fossil Fighters too and it's still my favorite.
Never found a game similar to this one, in its own lane for sure
I found my old cartridge of the game and I’m about to replay it because I want to relive all the fun I had while playing it.
I got the 1st Fossil Fighters game as my very first DS game, and I've been hanging on to it ever since.
One of the most underrated games
Just bought champions for 100 but i lost it so in my mind worth every cent.
I'm so sorry 😔 on the bright side. Emulation is free, and the rom hacking scene seems to be starting to bloom, so who knows 🤷♂️
It’s been likely a decade since I last played these games. After watching this video, I gotta find my old DS games and replay these masterpieces
Seeing this brings me so much nostalgia because it is very good
im so glad to see fossil fighters come years later its honestly so amazing
I loved your commentary, I would love to watch you play these games.
Fossil Fighters Champions, one of the bests. Great charachters, super fun, good strategy, good variety of dinos and... incredible well done story. I really liked this digagame xD.
came for fossil fighters, stayed for u. great video man i enjoyed all of it :)
Thank You So Much! :)
oh my god i thought i hallucinated the three hour fossil fighter analysis, it showed up once in my recs then disappeared!
i love the first two games to death-- frankly when I first played champions I thought the plot was so short. like beating the final boss of champions felt like the legendary fight halfway in the first game-- a good fight, sure, but it missed the significantly better latter half of the plot! todd is a real one no matter what though 💯
my favorite conspiracy theory: joe the medal dealer from the first game is actually joe wildewest in the second. we already saw him beginning to turn his life around by selling real fossils. he cleaned up his life and, as a lifelong thespian, commited to the wild west bit.
I appreciate the support! I hope you enjoy Frontier even if it's rough around the edges....
just came to say god i loved this game and im glad someone remembers it
the first fossil fighters game I played was the second one and honestly its one of my favorite games because it gives the satisfying feeling of being one of those cliche anime protags that were popular in the 2000's all in a game that didn’t feel like some absurdly long rpg or something. talk with friends, get cool masks, defeat a bunch of enemys and save the day it felt so rewarding not to mention the satisfaction of getting all the dinosaurs unlike the pokemon games where it feels like some sort of resident evil puzzle for some of them.
@Chubby Another game would be a gift from the heavens, sadly the franchise is on life support. Keep up the great content :)
I love this series and I still have all the games and play them occasionally
I love fossil fighters so much. The first 2 games made my childhood. Thank you for the great retrospective.
I’m also a fan who gives Frontier credit for the quality of life improvements.
Some of the challenge routes are complete BS though, especially the one in Frozen Wastes. It’s nearly impossible!
