Just to clear up a bit of confusion, when I said people "hate it because it's Star Fox", I wasn't referring to not enjoying, or even disliking the game. I was referring to continuing to be angry at it all of these years later. Do you really HATE every game you didn't like? Do you still talk about every game you didn't care for 20 years later? That's what I'm talking about. I totally understand if someone still wouldn't like it even if it were Dinosaur Planet, but people wouldn't talk about how much they still hate it all of these years later if it were a new IP. That's what I was getting at, I guess I should have been more clear on that.
Personally, it's because you get just a slight taste of what a good Star Fox game could of been (like 64) on the gamecube. It's in the game, and with that combined with people expecting a Star Fox game...well, it's like rubbing salt into the wound. People expect a beloved franchise not to deviate too far from their roots, unless it's a spin off coupled with a main game the fans crave. Just look at how well Diablo Immortal went down. If that was announced with D4, no where NEAR as much hate it has now.
I actually personally enjoy it and still play it for nostalgic reasons. I totally get why people aren't a fan of it and I myself joke around about it a bit but, I like the game. Also the ost was fire at some points, great soundtrack but only a few.
@@slashingkatie7872 banjo nuts n bolts was scary bad. I didn't see any trailer or gameplay for it, went out and bought it saw what it was and ever touched it again. Was expecting banjo threeie.
You're probably the only one person who speak positively about this game, I mean everyone who knows this game only remember jontron's opinion about this game, even with flaws I would like to play this game
Happy to inform anyone digging through this year old comment section of the fact that a rom of Dinosaur Planet has been found and released. It’s a bit later in development, but it’s mostly complete.
"a confused akward good bye" that really cut me to my soul. Rare and Nintendo's split was like seeing Mom and Dad get divorced after they seemed so compatible and so right for each other for so long. It was so strange when it happened.
And then rare shits out a tongue-in-cheek mockery of a beloved franchise with nuts and bolts. And besides LOG’s mockery and binyot moment, it’s... okay. Not really fitting for banjo-kazooie though.
Not gonna lie... I would like a starfox adventures 2. I know that Starfox is known for it's dogfights, but I honestly did like adventures more than the main series.
Hey! A bit of info about how the dinosaur language works: It's basically just a cipher of English. It's all explained in the manual (which I no longer own), but basically you take normal English words and switch the letters to corresponding other letters and then you have Dinosaur words. The "Enable Dinosaur Language" might just be taking the normal English subtitles and converting them using a program (I write code semi-professionally; it wouldn't be difficult). Sorry for the long post, great video!
That explains why the words spoken in English were converted too in the dinosaur subtitles, the automatic translator couldn't tell which words were supposed to stay in English.
That makes a lot of sense, I was actually wondering how they'd take the fricken time to reword everything in the dinosaur language! Unfortunately my copy never had the manual, so I never got to learn that. That's super cool though!
@@NitroRad Yeah, I remember when I was a little kid I translated a bunch of phrases into Dino language because I thought it would be cool to show up at school speaking Dinosaur. It went exactly as you would expect. I was an odd kid.
Maybe we see a new f zero game or golden sun, banjo Kazooie, paper mario(god I still need to play those games),another dead series But just remember if bubsy can come back everybody can
Im surprised of how Krystal is thrown to the side in the story, for how much of a popular character she became in some circles. I always thought she had a bigger rol... But at the end it was just her assets
From what I hear, she was meant to play a larger role in the game, but for one reason or another, became a side character. In fact, I think she was originally meant to accompany him.
21:56 *looks at Krystal* Nope, don't see ANY POSSIBLE reason that this game could've been rated T. Mmm-mmm. No siree. Jokes aside, great video as always Nitro!
@@cameronminor8690 I mean you probably can't get into a pool on your own if you're pre-13 (except for those times I did) but c'mon. Let's not all act weird about bikinis and stuff like girls don't wear that stuff all the time by choice.
@@xotl2780 ESRB is American-based though. We make a big deal out of cleavage exposure over here. I dont think E10+ rating was around yet because surely that would fit this game more than T.
And you know what the weirdest part is? It got a T rating because after you hit Tricky enough times in the head a very little bit of blood comes out. Meanwhile Ace Combat 4 gets away with a _E_ rating despite the fact you're fighting a war, language like "dammit" "bastard" and "S.O.B." gets used quite often. Stay consistent ESRB.
@@williampaschall I guess that's true for me I am in the same boat as Nitro Rad with this game (though I didn't have it growing up) as I like the game a lot and even though it has its quirky moments (like when fox first sees krystal) I like it how it is and I really want to know why people still hate this game as it's in a similar way to super mario sunshine when it first came out.
Dude! A Dinosaur Planet ROM has just been discovered!! It looks GORGEOUS and I'd love to hear your opinion about the N64 version now that it's available to play!! 😍
I am really happy that things like these are being discovered or even recreated. I know it wasnt leaked but reverse engineered but the pc mario 64 version has allowed people to create awsome things like the render96 version. Thanks to the internet we are able to not only preserve but also discover and distribute (though i still hate how there are so many dead links on things that are not even that old)
it’s so cool, such a strange insight into the game while it was in the middle of changing platforms and incorporating Star Fox. missing textures and everything it still looks amazing for a 64 title.
Yeah it felt like an almost overly optimistic statement to get his point across. If every negative comment was instead just silence we would never get the games we want.
Star Fox adventures was so damn good and doesn't get enough credit for how gorgeous it was and how vast the game world was. I'm also not a fan of on-rails shooters, so I played the old star fox games growing up and didn't love them. I did enjoy Adventures so much though.
Fox McCloud... >Doesn't care about Dinosaur Planet >Is just getting involved for the money >Is a Nintendo IP created by Miyamoto ...Is Fox's attitude in SFA meant to represent Nintendo and Miyamoto's attitude towards the Dinosaur Planet game?
I think the reason ppl get mad at games like federation force and such is because they get announced at a really bad time. If they announced it when, for example, metroid prime 4 was shown first, ppl wouldnt get frustrated. Its like if f-zero finally had a new entry but it was a go kart spin off. Atleast thats my theory
Exactly. Nitrorad said he didn't mind "Hey, Pikmin" because there were things for him down the line. Problem with Metroid Prime Federation Force was that there wasn't anything "down the line" yet. Same with Diablo Immortal. Fans didn't have anything on Diablo 4, so when Diablo Immortal was announced, there was nothing else to focus on.
I always had a love hate relationship with the game. I can respect the original intention, and it never bothered me the way that they handled the gameplay since it was actually the first star fox game I played, but the game was admittedly pretty long winded. Compare it to Majora’s mask or Wind Waker, the two 3D Zelda games released closest to its release, and you see the difference in style. Majora’s mask also has a difficulty spike in the dungeons and it can stretch it out Great Bay and Ikana Canyon compared to the first two areas, but the real bulk of that game was the side quests that developed the game world. Meanwhile, Wind Waker was long because of the repeated sailing, which was seen as a detriment at the time, but the dungeons were still straightforward and the puzzles were pretty simple. Meanwhile, this game has you go through the same two dungeons twice, they’re not that engaging either way, there’s mandatory button mashing in Lightfoot village (my worst nightmare as a kid), and the bosses really aren’t that good aside from the Red Eye king. I don’t consider this a bad game, but I feel like there could’ve been a lot more polish if the development, like you said, wasn’t probably effected by the Microsoft merger.
Naturally, Majora's Mask is a direct-sequel to Ocarina, so the game developers are assuming you've played Ocarina first, and mastered it, before picking it up. Essentially, the dungeons and timer are putting veteran players to the test, to see if you can weld Link's arsenal to make him one of the most versatile heroes in the series ever (bar Breath of the Wild) and I love the game for that. Likewise, anticipate BotW 2 being a much harder game if it comes out on Switch (and not another next-gen console)
abloogywoogywoo well what I meant was more that Woodfall and even Snowhead aren’t really hard for first time players, but the amount of stuff you have to do in Great Bay and Ikana Canyon is a significant jump up from those two, not so much that the game itself is inherently hard
@@trueblueryu5713 Woodfall is meant to ease-you-in, but Snowhead is definitely where the game stops "guiding you by the hand". I can breeze it today no problem, (and do the Gilded Sword side-quest in the same cycle no problem either.) But first-time? Without a guide? Going through all the floors? Trying to find the fairies in cryptic places? Controlling Goron Link for the first time in tight-areas/on-tracks? Trying to raise the pillar? Very challenging, and it only gets harder from there. My only disappointment was there was no proper 5th dungeon on the Moon. And no, to anyone reading, that shit on the 3DS doesn't count, goddamn that awful Zora section. >:C
This is still my favorite. To me the GameCube was the system that shook up old IPs. Luigi's Mansion as a launch title blew my mind, and then Star Fox adventures just really drove it home that the GameCube was a must own system that took risks.
I love starfox adventures, seeing Krystal in ultimate as an assist trophy in her adventures outfit with the staff gave me an ounce of hope for more adventures somehow
I actually think Starfox Adventures could have worked even with the Starfox title if this was a spinoff series. Look at games like Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and Hyrule Warriors. Nobody looked at those games and assumed that they represented the future of the series. Granted, that's possibly because they had recently had mainline games released or announced, but imagine if you didn't play as Fox. Have General Pepper send a mercenary to Dinosaur Planet and get some name drops along the way. Or maybe game companies should learn the old adage of "if it ain't broke, don't shoehorn it in to an existing franchise".
I think your reference to mainline games is really a big part of why Star Fox fans are upset with this game (I'm not really in that camp myself). Those other games you mentioned had their mainline franchise continue. What have we gotten in Star Fox since Adventures: Assault which has you mostly a foot soldier, a strategy game on the DS, a carbon copy of 64 on the 3DS, and a mutilated version of 64 on the Wii U. So for fans of the franchise, they're only being offered shameless 64 remakes or titles that are Star Fox in name only. Even though I'm not losing any sleep over it, I see how it would be frustrating for people who really wanted the franchise to expand off it's SNES and N64 roots.
@@ressljs at the time I loved the graphics of the whole star fox team with rare and gave me much hope on the series but after the second gamecube game with the cartoon style it really threw me off it doesnt seem much the same
hyrule warriors sticks to the lore of a zelda game though, and was made with zelda in mind. star fox adventures, you can tell star fox was ham fisted into it. woulda been better as its own game.
It's funny how dinosaur planet seems to be linked with this staff. Everything in Dinosaur planet is accessed with the staff, and there are power ups for the staff.
I take Krystal knowing the language as her originally growing up on dinosaur planet. If that text at the start was added in then it recontextualizes her as coming from space to connect with starfox. Makes more sense if she was part of the planet originally
Came to the comments to say this. I thought Krystal was supposed to be from that planet, not that she was an outsider. The game really doesn't follow up on a lot of story points it makes early on.
I've been thinking about, but I suppose the original story (Whatever that could have been) could be further recontextualized by Krystal actually being an alien like Superman. Like she came from another planet not by choice, and ended up growing up on Dinosaur Planet. That would also work in terms of her learning the language, but being a foreigner as well. Though whether she knew that growing up or it being a twist would be another story.
I could probably imagine this crude, cynical, "let's just get this over with, so I can get my pay-check" sort of attitude they gave Fox in this game, being more tailor made to someone like Wolf O' Donnell. Like, maybe if they did something similar to Star Fox Assault/Command, where Star Fox and Star Wolf are forced to join forces, or maybe have Fox and Wolf be stuck working together at some point in the game, or something like that.
@@skibot9974 Well, I did imagine that, if they were to do another StarFox game, that they could do a side adventure, involving the members of StarWolf, that has different gameplay to the usual StarFox antics.
I have to wonder if that was Rare's attitude towards the game itself not liking that Nintendo forced them to make Dinosaur planet into something else so they developed the attitude of "screw it let's just get it done for the paycheck"
I liked Star Fox Adventure, I sometimes wish they made a sequel. I liked how it was like Star Fox mixed with Legend of Zelda. Krystal was my favorite character in Star Fox Adventure
Star Fox Adventures is my first Star Fox game, and I love it. It is an underappreciated gem for sure. I also love how on the GameCube's memory card screen, it even says Dinosaur Planet.
@@Obscure_man31 Well to be honest I like the Arwing segments (and I love Star Fox: Assault, my second Star Fox game), but I love the other aspects, so I guess I prefer it as a Dinosaur Planet game, but I still love Adventures.
@@SSDARKPIT to be honest why not just say its your favorite dinasour planet game because its not really a star fox game really. @Brocialist Party of America i hate to break it to but this is a dinasour planet game but with fox mcloud in it the who game was 90 percent completed the other 10 went to star fox so its a dinasour planet game no matter what you say.
The villian that was supposed to be the final boss of Dinosaur Planet, was a dragon named Drakor. So yeah, the final boss wasn't General Scales and was supposed to be a suprise villian. Although with the story they had in mind for that game, I think it would have worked better.
This was hands-down one of my favorite Gamecube games. I'd say it's even one of my top favorites of all time. I still pull it out and play it every couple of years.
I remember buying this game a few days after release, it was somewhere in 2002 I'm not sure, anyway I was disappointed, it was boring... beautiful game, nice music but the overall experience was just so tame I hardly remember anything, from my point of view the space-fights were the best part, it's telling. Lol I even pretended to one of my friends that the game was awesome, then I lent it to him and he told me "it's kind of a sh*tty game" and I was like "sorry dude I couldn't find the strengh to tell you before^^" But Zelda Wind Waker, Mario Sunshine were so good, GameCube had shining games that made you happy, something quite unique to this console (well dreamcast had funny games too, Ready 2 rumble, Crazy Taxi)
as I sit here waiting for the 20th anniversary of the release of Mega man legends 2... even took part in the fan dev team for legends 3 before it was scrapped the day the prototype was supposed to be released.
That A Fox in Space clip. God I forgot that series was a thing. Thank you not only for a good retrospective review on this game, but for reminding me of that series, Nitro! Keep up the great vids! Love your content!
i actually still have fond memorys of this game even after all this time, hell i even went out and got a copy to replay it sooner or later just to give it a try giving all the knowledge and experience i have going back into it
It's still one of my favorite games on the GameCube, but then again my first party titles were Wind Waker, Zelda Collector's Edition, Sunshine, Four Swords and that Wario game I can't remember the name of and this growing up.

26:50 I had the EXACT experience you did here when I was a kid. I had to have my brother do it for me and he beat it so easily. Years later I was able to more or less beat it first try but that was such a huge road block for me, especially since at the time I rented it from Blockbuster. The Test of Fear afterwards was another one I struggled with, so this entire section of the game was one I don't really look forward to. I really do like Starfox Adventures so it's great to see someone out there have a more or less positive take on it. Great video as always dude.
Holy shit what a coincidence, I just started replaying this game the other day and now you upload this video! I’m probably one of the 7 people in the world who adores this game. Cuz I love Zelda clones with platforming elements starring animals I guess.
Honestly, it saddens me that this game was rushed. I recall hearing something about the Scales battle a long time ago. Appearantly the Spellstones were supposed to save Krystal and the Krazoa Spirits the planets. So, the Scales battle would've been Fox and Krystal againts Scales, however that was sadly scrapped due to time reasons...
Nitro. I don't know how to thank you. Not only do I enjoy just watching old games you talk about but I love how you talk about them. Taking old. More forgotten games and bringing them back to life again. It just makes me extremely happy that there's some one like you to make sure these games are never forgotten.
As someone who barely played 64 in the day and had this as my first Starfox game, I was more upset that the game felt half-arsed and clunky than the game not being a TRUE Starfox game. However, Rad brought up an interesting point regarding branding and theming - if Scales copout was intentional and the boss was supposed to be a Krozoa or Andross, there aren't enough shmup sections where they player would be expected to be good enough to beat the final boss. Moreso, the Starfox sections were more tacked on and out of place than the reused assets - but if those sections were redone as free-roam sections on the skies of the planet like Drakengard, you could throw in airborne dinosaur enemies and have sections where Krystal could join in on a pterodactyl. As for Miyamoto, his hands-off approach with Starfox didn't work, but for Metroid Prime in a similar boat, his attention to detail may have saved the game in which all of Retro's games after Akklaim were canned, and fans weren't happy with the FPS angle. But, having all of the rooms interconnected with powerups made Prime still identifiable as a Metroid game, despite missing powerups like the speed booster. You can't say the same for Federation Force which was trying to be a competitor for a local co-op FPS trend, and ALTHOUGH IT HAD SOME GOOD IDEAS, using Metroid lore to make Samus second fiddle doesn't have the same charm. Now, making an RTS where space pirates, the federation, and phaaze would have skirmishes in a campaign, that has potential as never being done that would suit a touchscreen handheld. But, as Kid Icarus proved on the 3DS, it's an uphill battle to put a traditional shooter on a DS due to the cramped layout, as even Prime Hunters had some growing pains. Would Federation Force have worked better as an F-Zero spinoff where we see Falcon as a bounty hunter? Maybe. Would having more crossover potential besides Smash with F-Zero, Starfox, and Metroid be able to temper expectations when Nintendo wants to experiment with a franchise? Going with how badly Starfox Command was handled, probably not. And given how Starfox forgot Dinosaur Planet after Assault, there probably wasn't too much potential to begin with.
I appreciated this game as a fun spin-off with some interesting, unique concepts. It's such an awesome product of its time and screams classic Gamecube!!
That game was incredible beautiful and mystical, also the music was incredible. I remember feeling butterflies in my stomach everytime I turned on my game cube, I used to wake up early just to play it when I was little.
I don't hate Star Fox Adventures because it's not a Star Fox game. In fact, I thought the game looked cool and was excited to play it. No, I hate it because I honestly don't think it's a very good game. This was supposed to be Rare's take on Zelda, and should've been amazing. But towards the second half, I was questioning whether I liked it or not. And then the ending sequence cemented my opinion, with the out-of-nowhere villain switcheroo, and worst of all, Krystal's not-role in it. I went through the game expecting some cool stuff with her once I rescued her, but instead she just ineffectively shoots Andross with her staff, and Fox is all "this is embarassing" and runs off to his arwing to finish the job himself. That sequence is proof that people like Krystal for her looks more than anything, by the way.
That the furries find Krystal appealing, isn't really a measure of what makes a game good or bad, nor does it work to its merit. Because honestly, if Rule 34 is anything to go by, people will say they like whatever is objectified and sexually attractive. Krystal's anatomy is, as Rad said, just off. Neither cutsy nor badass. (I think its because her head is too big perhaps?)
@@Thomas-te2lg I was coming here to say this. I've never played adventures, only 64 and assault, and I think she's actually a pretty solid character in that game.
The “never beat this as a kid” part reminded me of when I had similar issues in the original Kingdom Hearts. Oddly enough, I needed serious help with the Stealth Sneak, but there was enough after that kid me could do that I could then make it to Hollow Bastion in Expert.
That fucking minigame has the stupidest RNG, I had one playthrough where I kicked his ass like Rad did. Another one, and he kicked my ass twice, before I beat him, and in all three attempts I was mashing the shit outta my controller until it turned into molten plastic and sweat. WTF......
This is the first time I've actually seen someone talk about this game in depth beyond "it's Starfox but NOT." Was very interesting to see. I'm definitely of the belief that it should have stayed Dinosaur Planet too. I remember I visited a friend who had this game and I hated it because there weren't the flying sections (as much) like I expected and I really hated Krystal for being a bland sexualized character who served no real purpose. A sentiment that became worse as I saw how popular she was online. Years later I felt pretty bad after finding out how retooled this game actually was because she was originally going to be the protagonist and there was so much more to her from what we saw in the original footage. I definitely think the majority of the hate this game gets is hate for it being a Starfox game too. It's become popular to hate it because of a few youtubers who got popular content surrounding it as well. This happens a lot because of youtube unfortunately. People who have never actually played it and therefore have never actually formed their own opinions on it will just copycat what other people have said. "Just because it's not what you want doesn't mean it's inherently a bad game" Damn the Oddworld fans who have an extreme hatred for Heart of Darkness need to hear this tbh. That's a similar sentiment to this. They go into it expecting it to be identical to Oddysee then get all nasty because, surprise, it might be a similar game, but it isn't. The hatedom for HoD is significantly less prominent than for this game I think but it's the same principal. You can't go into a game expecting it to be the same as a different one. And Starfox Adventures ended up bearing the brunt of that because of how it was never meant to be a Starfox game in the first place. It was fighting an uphill battle right from the start.
The thing about Federation Force not being talked badly about this day is...that nobody actually talks about Federation Force at all period. As for me...ever since i had the Zelda Wind Waker + Ocarina of Time Bonus Disc launch edition of the GameCube, and saw StarFox Adventures on the HotClips trailer compilation of it, i wanted it. I thought "holy shit StarFox but ZELDA?! WHERE CAN I GET THIS?!" back in the olden days. However, much like the name of the publisher, the game itself was surprisingly RARE in our country, and i couldn't find it for at least a DECADE. Afterwards i played through it, finally, and liked it up until the first half of the game. Then...then came all the backtracking, and back backtracking and UGH, the whole game just seemed to fall apart. Is it really THAT bad? Not really...is it good? Not really either. It's MEDIOCRE...but let's be honest, after StarFox 64...nobody would settle for mediocre.
I played this at that magical age when everything slightly curvy caused a particular reaction. Krystal, wearing a loincloth, is floating in a crystal. You go to that location during the game. You can get almost right underneath her prison. There's a first person camera mode. Not hard to guess what happened.
I've loved Metal Gear Rising since the day I got my hands on it. That game is one of the most insane, over the top, ridiculous action games ever made, and it's also one of the best in the genre. What a masterpiece. Also, I really liked Star Fox Adventures. It's not a masterpiece itself, but it's pretty fun! I enjoyed it for what it was/is.
The thing with Starfox fans is, being a Starfox Fan is one of the most suffering beings one can be in a fandom. At least with F-Zero and Pikmin and other games like that, you have the prospect of a new game to look forward to. Starfox is a series with the following history of games: 1) Starfox 2) A cancelled sequel that only technically saw an official release almost 25 years afterwards, and even then, it wasn't actually finished. They just polished the Beta build to look presentable enough. 3) A remake of Starfox 4) A game that was only a Starfox game for legal reasons 5) An actual sequel... That half of the levels of are remakes of levels from the Remake of Starfox... 6) Another sequel with a crappy control scheme, on a console that was not designed for a game with that playstyle. 7) A remake of the remake of Starfox 8) Another remake of the remake of Starfox, but with crappy controls. Face facts, if Pikmin gets a new game, it'll be a brand new thing, if F-Zero gets a new game, it'll be brand new. All Starfox fans have to look forward to is yet another fucking remake of Starfox 64...
I really like the idea of Star Fox having both land and air segments. If you treat the Star Fox games like a TV show (or just... animate the goddamn series), I think it would be a hell of an improvement. Also, that clip from A Fox in Space was great! Lmao
@@Thomas-te2lg Story-wise, no, not at all. It just takes place after StarFox Adventures. You can return to the same planet in one of the levels, and Krystal is a major character in the game, but other than that brief revisit to Sauria, or however it's spelled, and the fact that Krystal's there, StarFox Assault has nothing to do with StarFox Adventures.
That whole bit at the beginning of the video about how "it's easier to appreciate the different game after the regular games came back" is exactly how I feel about the DMC reboot game after we got DMC5, Dragon Ball GT after we got Dragon Ball Super, and Power Rangers after we finally got some Super Sentai DVDs. I agree 100%. It's a shame some fanbases (especially Sonic) have yet to learn that lesson. I'm sure we'll all collectively hate the "Paper Mario Sticker Star trilogy" a lot less if Nintendo ever makes a true Paper Mario 3 in the future.
@@OmegaChase1002 no I stopped at the mid point of the tournament it just pissed me off and the hype around it made me hate it more because God forbid you criticize it at that point you get treated worse than yamcha.
Seeing how buddy buddy Nintendo and Microsoft have been lately, it would be cool to see Rare finish their original vision for Dinosaur Planet and rerelease it as a download only game; tho that's probably what I would love to see, doubtful anyone's gonna agree with me
"It feels a little bit inconsistent with the Fox we knew from Starfox 64" I mean, the Great Fox looks like they've been selling parts of it off to pay the bills. If I was so out of work I was taking siding off of my house and selling it to make ends meet you're damn right I'd want to get paid. Edit: Also I like how the sound effect for the fire ball is the same sound effect of the Imps shooting a fireball at you in Doom. Not saying that effect originated in Doom, just that Doom and SFA use the same effect.
That is the story in the manual. They've been out of work (Meta joke to Starfox not having a game in awhile) so this mission is a big opportunity to get paid to fix the ship and stuff. Also there's a description of the Arwing saying "It's seen better days" though that doesn't really factor in its gameplay
Many years later, we finally have a build of Dinosaur Planet, right during the transitional shift. Also, fun fact! Originally, in Dinosaur Planet, there would've been a fight against a Kamerian Dragon, the resurrected god of the dinosaurs (or against his heart, I dunno), and one you beat him, he melts down in pretty gruesome detail for the N64, blood drops and all! Maybe that's what they would possibly refer to as "Blood" for the T rating, but when it didn't make the cut, they just kinda forgot about it.
I remember that one test with the rapid A presses as a kid as well, i also had to get my dad to beat it, the twist being i actually HAD a madcatz controller, I was just too dumb to use the turbo function haha
For the record: people were ticked about Federation force because of the disrespect shown to Samus's character in Other M. And we were hoping for a game to win back our approval and trust. Then: "KOO KOO KACHO! I KNOW YOU LOVE THE DARK AMBIANCE THAT'S AN ICONIC AND INTEGRAL PART OF THE FRANCHISE! GUESS WHAT? WE TOOK THAT OUT AND MADE IT A CHIBI MULTIPLAYER GAME!" Because that wasn't completely off tone. I don't mind spin-offs. But at least try to act like you care about the source material when you make one.
Exactly. I didn't hate on federation force because it was a different type of game. it was because it's timing after other m where the series was in a very critical nearly dead state as is and really needed a new game that would bring things back on track(which we would eventually get in the form of samus returns but at the time there was nothing down the line we could know about) combined with the fact that it completely disrespected the tone and overall feel of the series made it a complete "WTF WERE THEY THINKING!?" style shitstorm of a game.
You can't disrespect a character by giving them development when they previously had next to none. Samus went from a permanent mute/drone to a human character in a great sci-fi series.
I would really like to see some talk about Metal Arms: Glitch In The System. It was a game released for Gamecube, PS2 and eventually to Xbox, by Swingin' Ape Studios, and remember it fondly, even through the hard third person shooter setting.
Eh, I personally think an open-world, exploration based star fox game would've worked much better were it based around the sci-fi aestetic star fox has and made much more heavy use of the arwing. I have some affection for the game, but shoving an ip where it doesn't belong is pretty much always going to feel awkward even if it's game of the year quality. I just feel kinda betrayed learning my childhood game was basically based on a lie y'know?
Even though Rare now is a completely different team from Rare then, I'm hopeful that Banjo being revived to be put in Smash with as much thunderous applause as he got will be enough for Microsoft to realize their IPs have a LOT more potential than they gave them credit for, and start bringing Rare's IPs out starting with a safe gamble. Remastered Banjo Kazooie.
This was actually the second story-based game I ever played; my sister and I got a gamecube around 6/7-ish, and we simply didn't know anything about gaming at all. We knew tetris, super mario land 2 (and as little children didn't even knew that a super mario land 1 existed) and frogger. that was it. And with that perspective, the game was - to put it simply - awesome. I remember years later, seeing Star Fox Command in a store, and since I wasn't really into the franchise, I only knew it existed as a larger brand from smash bros. I had no idea how actuall Star Fox gameplay was suppose to look like and that the game was based around the aircraft shooting rather than the land exploration, so you can imagine my disappointment. So with that perspective, I can absolutely confirm that I personally view this game as a timeless classic with beautiful design that still stuns me to this day, and if it weren't a Star Fox game, I'd bet my kidney that this would be the general consens on the game.
Nitro Rad I like this despite not being a true Starfox game. Banjo Nuts and Bolts...eh not so much.
@@slashingkatie7872 banjo nuts n bolts was scary bad. I didn't see any trailer or gameplay for it, went out and bought it saw what it was and ever touched it again. Was expecting banjo threeie.

"a confused akward good bye" that really cut me to my soul. Rare and Nintendo's split was like seeing Mom and Dad get divorced after they seemed so compatible and so right for each other for so long. It was so strange when it happened.
Jared RB Garrison Microsoft only wanted him for the shirt he always wears.
And then rare shits out a tongue-in-cheek mockery of a beloved franchise with nuts and bolts. And besides LOG’s mockery and binyot moment, it’s... okay. Not really fitting for banjo-kazooie though.

Hey! A bit of info about how the dinosaur language works:
It's basically just a cipher of English.
Like Al Bhed
That explains why the words spoken in English were converted too in the dinosaur subtitles, the automatic translator couldn't tell which words were supposed to stay in English.
@@Diwasho Exactly. This is all just speculating on my part, though.

She ended up being the game's damsel-in-distress. Just like Peach or Zelda. But she's actually playable in the first section of the game.

And the whole AM2R fiasco. 2015-16 were not kind years to Nintendo...for the most part, anyway.
@@SSBBPOKEFAN oh yeah, add that cherry on top and it was understandable why people were mad
granted, they had reason to take down AM2R because their own Metroid 2 remake was being made.
@@BigHailFan well, they didn't explain it like that tho. They just took it down as soon as it was done.
I hated going through the water shrine so much, myself.

I take Krystal knowing the language as her originally growing up on dinosaur planet. If that text at the start was added in then it recontextualizes her as coming from space to connect with starfox. Makes more sense if she was part of the planet originally
I read some where that is not from dinosaur planet but from another planet that was destroyed when she was little
@@maximillianlylat1589
I believe that explanation better than what the game gives.
2:09 Anyone else here in 2021 to say a beta of Dinosaur Planet has surfaced?
Pikmon
I could probably imagine this crude, cynical, "let's just get this over with, so I can get my pay-check" sort of attitude they gave Fox in this game, being more tailor made to someone like Wolf O' Donnell.
Like, maybe if they did something similar to Star Fox Assault/Command, where Star Fox and Star Wolf are forced to join forces, or maybe have Fox and Wolf be stuck working together at some point in the game, or something like that.
Or make this a Star Wolf game as to make it more clear this isn’t going to play like Star Fox 64
@@skibot9974 Well, I did imagine that, if they were to do another StarFox game, that they could do a side adventure, involving the members of StarWolf, that has different gameplay to the usual StarFox antics.

Crystal being encased in a giant crystal is a lot like how Zelda is sealed in one a couple of times.

Well yeah! An anthro female fox character. I can dig it! This whole game was practically MADE for furries. 2 thumbs up from this red dragon!
Krystal was only good in Star Fox: Assault.
@@Thomas-te2lg I was coming here to say this. I've never played adventures, only 64 and assault, and I think she's actually a pretty solid character in that game.
Dude he already explained it in his video
People hate it cause Starfox is in it
Take it out and it'll be like jetforce Gemini
Oh man, I didn't expect you to throw in a "Fox in Space" clip. You have some good tastes, James.
It’s February 20/2021 and the early build of Dinosaur Planet has finally leaked
24:18-24:23 "I... AM... the Great Mighty Poo, (Fox swings staff) and I'm going to flush away from you."
The “never beat this as a kid” part reminded me of when I had similar issues in the original Kingdom Hearts. Oddly enough, I needed serious help with the Stealth Sneak, but there was enough after that kid me could do that I could then make it to Hollow Bastion in Expert.
"Let's see how strong you are!"
100 attempts later...
*quits game*
"Just because it's not what you want doesn't mean it's inherently a bad game"
Damn the Oddworld fans who have an extreme hatred for Heart of Darkness need to hear this tbh.
Nitro Rad, just wanted to say that this is such a well made video. Much respect, man.
"She was a lot more pudgy."

Dubzzops When does he say that?
Krystal is hott
How about some art of that
Kinda shocked how similar Beyond Good & Evil is to this game !
(amazing video as usual dude)
I played this at that magical age when everything slightly curvy caused a particular reaction.
Krystal, wearing a loincloth, is floating in a crystal. You go to that location during the game. You can get almost right underneath her prison. There's a first person camera mode.
Not hard to guess what happened.
You're not alone there bud.
I absolutely loved this game, took up a good chunk of my childhood
people should be at least thankful for this game since it gave us Krystal
Then we shoud thanks rule 34
Krystal is one of my gateway furries.
Oh yes, for sure! ^.=.^

Thank you for giving starfox adventures justice
One of my first fav GameCube game
Starfox is a series with the following history of games:
1) Starfox
2) A cancelled sequel that only technically saw an official release almost 25 years afterwards, and even then, it wasn't actually finished. They just polished the Beta build to look presentable enough.
3) A remake of Starfox
4) A game that was only a Starfox game for legal reasons
5) An actual sequel... That half of the levels of are remakes of levels from the Remake of Starfox...
6) Another sequel with a crappy control scheme, on a console that was not designed for a game with that playstyle.
7) A remake of the remake of Starfox
8) Another remake of the remake of Starfox, but with crappy controls.
Lmao
Ah yes , starfox adventures, the game that causes someone one who has never played a zelda game before,to swear " it's just like zelda!"
It was a lot more like Zelda than it was like Star Fox. Also it was kind of a discount Zelda anyway. It was fine.
Having played every Zelda game and loving them all dearly, SFA is definitely just like Zelda.
Wait.. wasn't Star Fox Assult the sequel to this one?
Story wise, yeah. Gameplay wise, no.
@@Thomas-te2lg
Yes.
And the gameplay change was for the better.
Bought a turbo controller as a kid just to beat the mash "A" part against the strong dinosaur. RIP.
Gt will always be leagues better than lets get Super sandwich letarded
@@erueka6 you talkin bout the anime or the manga

3:44 I'm pretty sure that those exact climbable wall textures appeared in the oot 3ds remake
I’ve been waiting for psychonauts 2 for 14 years and then they went and put it off for 2020
Seeing how buddy buddy Nintendo and Microsoft have been lately, it would be cool to see Rare finish their original vision for Dinosaur Planet and rerelease it as a download only game; tho that's probably what I would love to see, doubtful anyone's gonna agree with me
I'd love to see that as a Xbox / Switch dual release, going along with Banjo now.
"It feels a little bit inconsistent with the Fox we knew from Starfox 64"
I mean, the Great Fox looks like they've been selling parts of it off to pay the bills.
Exactly.
I literally rapidly rubbed my knuckles on the A button to win. Got them scrapped and needed some bandages afterwards, but hey at least I won.
GUESS WHAT? WE TOOK THAT OUT AND MADE IT A CHIBI MULTIPLAYER GAME!"
Because that wasn't completely off tone.
I don't mind spin-offs.
But at least try to act like you care about the source material when you make one.
They also could have presented it better.
What's funny is that Samus in Federation force actually has memorable appearances that play off of her amazing skill as a bounty hunter
@@alex_-yz9to except that stupid ending.
You can't disrespect a character by giving them development when they previously had next to none. Samus went from a permanent mute/drone to a human character in a great sci-fi series.
We just need nitro rad to do a review for Tak and the Power Of juju i think it came out on all 3 known classic consoles ps2, xbox, and GCN.
I would really like to see some talk about Metal Arms: Glitch In The System. It was a game released for Gamecube, PS2 and eventually to Xbox, by Swingin' Ape Studios, and remember it fondly, even through the hard third person shooter setting.
That game is actually pretty good from what I've played but I still need to finish it
IT LEAKED TODAY BABY!!!
If you know, you know
The N64 Prototype?
maybe Fox's dialogue being annoyed is Rare being meta about disgust for the change in the game.
Star Fox Adventures always has been and always will be one of my favorite Nintendo GameCube games of all time! ^____^
Before Banjo came to smash
Nintendo bails Rare from Microsoft’s 2nd party prison
Even though Rare now is a completely different team from Rare then, I'm hopeful that Banjo being revived to be put in Smash with as much thunderous applause as he got will be enough for Microsoft to realize their IPs have a LOT more potential than they gave them credit for, and start bringing Rare's IPs out starting with a safe gamble.
Remastered Banjo Kazooie.
And that sweet threeie
Actually my first starfox game, I always liked it probably for nostalgia
