One way to make use of those extra parts is to kitbash some additional models using the limbs jutting from some fleshy holes or cracked eggs. Once Easter is over, you're liable to pick up loads of plastic Easter eggs at a discount. Stick some on a base, cracked open and covered in some kind of goo. Like the unit is being encountered deep in Tyranid territory, and whole swarms are being hatched battle-ready to join the fight. Might be useful, if you still had some heads or bodies unassembled, to cast them as a mold (100% silicone is fairly cheap to buy in tubes, and mold up really nice if you mix them with corn starch). Cast the two halves of each part, make copies using plaster of paris/resin. Add those to the eggs or gaping flesh holes, to complete the effect of creatures emerging. Cover any mistakes in the cast with chunks of egg shell or a dollop of goo.
Tamiya Airbrush Cleaner is the exact same product as Tamiya Extra Thin. You can save a lot of $$ if you don't insist on getting it in a glass jar with a crappy applicator (an old paint brush if far better to apply it anyways) For example, in Canada I can get 250ml of it for $14 if I buy it branded as "Airbrush Cleaner" or $7 for 40ml of it branded as "Extra Thin Cement"
@@bobbobo4748 Check the MSDS of both products. They are the exact same chemicals used in the same proportions. Google it yourself and come back and tell me again how unrealistic it is 🙃.
Nids and Orcs... two armies which we have enough spare bits of that we could melt them down and build a home. I had to start recycling. Tamiya is amazing, does have some draw backs, but my fav glue btw, just be careful with vapours, I find they are stronger then some others.
Just got done with my first new gen termagant kit (From leviathan) and they are so simple to assemble, it actually removed part of the fun (I enjoy building much more than painting)! Just 4 pieces per model, and each took like 90 seconds (including cleaning flash which was near non existant). Compared to these older sprues it was like night and day. Was kinda bummed they didnt have poison sacks and gland thingys anymore either so they dont really match my first batches (poses aside). I guess they are easy enough pieces to green stuff sculpt on.
Thanks for the glue recommendation. I tried using a Mr Hobby Mr Cement S with a tall narrow blue cover, and it evaporated so quickly upon application I couldn't even glue anything! Citadel's glue is excellent, but that dispensing method is really annoying when it starts drying and clogging. Hopefully they'll swallow their pride and change it soon. In the meantime, I have to pay a visit to my local Tamiya shop. :)
Glad it was helpful. I've always liked using Citadel glue but the Tamiya brush application made such a difference and is going to speed up my Astra Militarum army build big time. Thanks for watching!
As others have suggested here i'm vouching for using either sprue goo-tamiya extra thin sprue mix or very thick gloopy plastic glue of some variety. Hugely speeds up the cleanup phase and or allows you to skip using dedicated filler quite alot of the time. Id also suggest spending a few more minutes per mini making sure there is zero gaps on say the heads and cleaning up with files and wetsanding. It's more effort of course but if your not having to fill as much because of the goo/thick plastic cement you can afford to lavish more time on each model and it looks alot nicer,The eye notices it just as much as a nice colour scheme. Il also reccomend you some vallejo plastic puttin in the with needle nozzle.. it takes a good few hours to fully harden till you can sand it but it's very precise and will aid you alot in having horde armies that look like they were assembled by the GW studio or somthing.
@@tabletopskirmishgames Try vallejo plastic putty too and wetsanding if you've never done that before. Wetsanding is a game changing thing for finish quality and speed. Also treat yourself to some various modelling sponge sanders/sanders and nice quality files. It's ultra common in the scale modelling world but sadly not so much in the WH hobby. Most of that stuff will cost you mere pennies :) 1000 grit wet n dry paper can be had for like 50p at alot of car body and hardware stores and sponge sanders-nail buffers can also similarlly be had cheap at beauty stores if your not bothered by purchasing stuff from the ladies section lul Also gonna throw the tamiya scriber ii in there for digging out lost panel lines from sanding and getting into the nooks of plasma coils and similar places.
You want a tackle bin, and tape a note in each compartment- (heads, l arm, r arm, claw, guts, etc.) And cut off the bits and fill it up. don't worry about the trimming and filing, till your ready to build. After that, you build them in groups of 20 or 30.
Awesome! It's such a great set and good fun to put together. Adding the Tervigon and Tyrannofex makes the army is over 1000 points and it looks really cool. Have fun!
This set only has termagants and their weapon options. If you are only playing for fun, there's no reason why you couldn't give them the Spine Fists and proxy them for hormogants. Or just build them as Termagants with any weapons and proxy them. As long as your opponent is happy.
I don't plan on playing competitively or anything, but games like this or MTG require you to be at least some level of competitive in order to still have fun (i.e not losing outright regardless of map, deployment, gametype, and opponent lol). I like the fluffy idea of a swarm of biomass punctuated by large monsters but I don't often see this in batreps online. Is that kind of list at least "competitive enough not to suck in casual play and make me regret spending yet more money on plastic crack"?
That's a good point. I've only been playing at my local club, and a lot of us started at the same time so we can be equally as bad as each other 🤣 I think Tyranids are pretty strong right now whatever you choose to do with them. Once you know the stratagems that's a huge advantage, and creating a battle forged army will make sure the units you sue are as even as they can be too.
@@tabletopskirmishgames Now I'm almost glad some of our lads have Tyranid armys...at least until I finish of my 2nd Company along with the executioner tank
@@tabletopskirmishgames i really love your indepts on the Sprues and Options. Something i rarely see. Hope you have fun with Nids and this Great Box. It is a perfect start.
It's an amazing box. But not the right fit for me, KT wise I would have been much more interested if there were Hormagaunts instead of so many Termaguants. Plus, Tyranids are quite easy to 3D print, even from 3rd party creators. Space Bugs are just much more generic than Space Marines which really have to look like GW SM for me. Been using the Tamiya Ultra Thin Cement for a while, it really is an awesome experience using the brush. Found a super glue on amazon with a brush as well, lovely products which make hobbying much easier and less frustrating. Same goes for a pair of premium Aliexpress Snippers. Cut through Plastic like butter. Nowadays I often think to invest in such everyday tools and let one or two boxes just go w/o purchasing them.
It really is. Looking forward to adding the bonus Tyranids from the Imperium magazine that come with the next delivery. A Broodlord and Genestealers will be a fun addition. I'll have to try the ultra thin cement, thanks for the tip!

I have these models already in my army but I still found it fun to watch an unboxing and build of figures I love.
It's such a fun box to build. My boy and me love the Tyranids now! Thanks for watching 👊
Wow, I didnt know this box came with options. They needed to put a picture of the winged tyrant for sure

Just take the pin straw out
Just built this box, those hive tyrant wings were a nightmare to get to stick
Yeah if you don't get them right away it gets fiddly.
I had one wing go perfect first time and the other had to be braced for a bit
I fill my citadel glue container with that tamiya glue for when i want more precession. Really good stuff

It definitely feels that way.

It's awesome to have a swarm of Termagants and the variety you get with the Hive Tyrant and Warriors.
How many points
The combat patrols are designed to give you approximately 500 points or 25 power level.
