Honestly, I'd be more likely to just buy a Starter Set (which I have), and a box of Barbgaunts, if I want a 'Nids Combat Patrol. And the new Datacards, or just the free Vardenghast Swarm rules. Seriously, the Combat Patrol: Tyranids, and the Combat Patrol: Space Marines (when it hits the shelves) are seriously ridiculously expensively priced for what is a box of MONOPOSE STARTER SET minis!
Unless if they’re changing how things were with 9e…no, the Starter Sets should be available all edition long.
Рік тому+1
The Leviathan box would be limited, but the full range of starter sets should be available until the next edition, that's a key part of their business, to have a full set for beginners.
They do it because otherwise all combat patrol prices would have to be increased. Would be strange to just have Tyranids a different price to the rest. They want to keep the starter sets cheap ish in order to get people in. Plus for next edition, they don't have to adjust the price. I think games workshop pricing is very cryptic but mostly due to the efficiency or not of the sprue manufacturing process.
It doesn't look like GW will release it to third parties? Maybe because there are plenty of Leviathan box sets still out in the third party stores with just that little bit more for your money and it can be split between players for even more value. As for the box set itself, I was in GW in Sydney Australia and the set is on the shelf along with a bunch of other things. As for new starters, I have never seen GW staff give new people the bums rush on product. They are more open to speaking to new starters about the whole process and educating people on how things work.
I’m sure someone out there or many someone’s will have to buy many of these. I mean it’s one click ! Saves so much time ! Seriously though this is all normal GW people need to stop buying or just expect more of the same.
I agree, it doesn't make sense for GW to release the new Tyranids Combat Patrol box this soon after the 10e Starters were released. I understand that the whole point of the new CP format is to make it easy for new players to get into WH40K, and it may be daunting for new players to spend the extra $50 for the Ultimate Starter -- even though it's a far greater value and includes terrain and the rule book. Also, the 10e Ultimate Starter includes a second army so two new players can play each other. The Ultimate Starter is unquestionably the greater value... but new players are less likely to recognize that and will prefer the cheaper option. GW is catering to them with the 10e Tyranids CP box. The rest of us know better and aren't going to buy it.
@@SleepyPsyker Even though the Tyranids CP box is just a re-package of half the Ult. Starter Set, it's not good business to create a different SKU to contrast the greater value of the Ult. Starter to sell more of the latter. The 10e Tyranids CP box is ill-timed. I'm aware that the old Tyranids CP is out-of-print and scarce, so GW needed to create a new Tyranids CP box for 10e, but releasing it this soon after the 10e Starters is a bad idea.
This combat patrol is an insult. It is pretty much the same as Leviathan and the Ultimate Starter Edition if we ignore the missing units between all 3 boxes.

O tenth in Gravis.....🤤
not to defend GW or anything, but im not entirely sure what their options were. they kinda painted themselves into a corner. this is the _third_ box set to release with tyranid models in a matter of months. it needs to include some of the new models, but nothing _too_ special, because its still supposed to be a 'basic' set. repeated contents are unavoidable. also, they _have_ to release a combat patrol, because they've created a dedicated game mode for it. if they said "sorry, nid players, you're stuck with the old one because we dont feel like putting out a third box", nid players would be mad and rightly so. they wouldnt get to play with new models in the combat patrol game mode. alternatively, if GW acknowledged this problem with the starter set and sold the combat patrol at a lower price than usual, every _other_ faction would be mad. not to mention how this would confirm that they're overcharging for all this crap in the first place. and to anyone thats going to say "just put different models in it", GWs entire business model is to get you started with something basic and start selling you the things you need to expand that army at full cost. they dont want to sell _every_ faction model at a discount. with obvious, limited exceptions, like the leviathan box. at the end of the day, they didnt really have a choice. which is stupid, but it is what it is. eventually leviathan contents from resellers will run dry and even the starter box might stop being sold within a year or two. meanwhile, this nids combat patrol will be available for years and years. probably well into 11th edition.
This reminds me of how AAA video game publishers will present their big game with like five different versions. Where you need a chart to figure out what you're actually getting, and which you ideally want to buy. The POINT of the exercise is to present the customer with so many choices, they end up giving up in confusion and exasperation, and buy whatever. Regardless of whether it's actually a good deal. It's scumbag behavior, and it's no surprise GW are getting in on it.
You know I recently started getting interested in WH40K and was quickly drawn to the tyranids but it seems like this is the WORST time to get into them with the rapid changes and the weird pricing. I am having fun painting the one set of termagants I have now. It’s a leviathan set without the squad weapons, but considering my learning curve on painting I might not want to show all of these little guys in public anyway. 😂 Anyway it’s clear even to me that the combat patrol box is pretty bad compared to leviathan and the starter kit. Wtf!?!
The issue is not that the pricing is weird, but that, in general, it's very high. The points per dollar of the new models are rarely pretty, and in the cases where it's a good deal in that direction, it's for units that don't seem very good in game. Either way you slice it, the super cheap starter sets, or tyranid halves of leviathan, don't help that much when everything else is so expensive
I'd argue that it's THE Best time to get into Tyranids, as the models coming out now will not be replaced for a very long time. Plus, with them being in all the starter products (like this two player box set) you can get them at discounted prices that won't be available later.
Apart from this example, I think they are actually much better these days than they used to be. The starter sets are good value, the rules and datasheets are free and the introduction of combat patrol has made the game far more accessible to other types of players other than tryhard nerds
Can we just all agree that 10ed kinda is shit… i’ve not wanted to toss stuff in the bad this bad with 40k since they did that hero hammer edition which was savagely shite too… i’m just kinda sick of it, my terminators can’t justify their points cost shooting bad/toughness good movement slow/fighting meh…. Really doesnt cut it! The rules really need to start balancing based on points costs 10terminators should be comparable to Knight but they just aren’t… i’m not gunna talk about aeldari again cause thats boring fast… i do feel kinda bad for the people who play aeldari and have for years and them now being the boogey men on the gaming club rather than being the annoying dash and grabbers that they used to be… all round crap rules for those fellas… and yeah i dunno how the hell they can fix constantly respawning stuff… that doesn’t seem workable with finite points takes me back to when the demons players were spamming horrors and that was just the worst… infinite splitting and then summoning… it was like playing 2 armies… the one the lad brings the other one the guy summons and your just standing across the table making the wtf face….

In my country people are selling tyranids half of leviathan box for ~20% cheaper than this combat patrol box.
If you want to snatch army for good price check trading groups in your area for battle boxes splits.
Its a push fit box if you had leviathan which many had. I bought 90% of this box for half its sale cost.
Where does this leave the leviathan box? Quite possible gw are using the unsold boxes to sell as combat patrols.
There is no such thing as unsold leviathan.
Exactly so what was the point in anyone buying it if at least one of the cp is trash
You still can get the complete Tyranid half for 65-75€ on the secondary market
yeah the CP is kinda bad with the starter boxes existing, i don't need it as i got the leviathan launch box
But the starter set is limited as far as I know right?
So in a few months the only option will be the combat patrol
Unless if they’re changing how things were with 9e…no, the Starter Sets should be available all edition long.
I got the last CP box, which is also redundant.
I wonder what would be missing if they released the space marine half of the leviathan starter set as a combat patrol
It's already exists. You get both combat patrols in the Starter set. It's the captain, librarian, 5 infernus marines and terminators.
BECAUSE THEY CAN! financial impact (boycott) is the only thing they understand!
I’m sure someone out there or many someone’s will have to buy many of these. I mean it’s one click ! Saves so much time ! Seriously though this is all normal GW people need to stop buying or just expect more of the same.
What a crappy deal. This box, plus Neurotyrant and Screamer Killer can be had for 80€/100$ off eBay as the second half of the Leviathan box.
the more and more I see of how they deal with the Nids the more I feel bad for their players.
My friend Darius bought one. We proceeded to beat him with sticks for this decision.
I swear the exact same thing happened with Necrons last edition.
That's why they're doing it again. It apparently worked incredibly well the last time... ;-)
It's to get you to buy the starter set.
Well, if the Space Marine combat patrol comes out, it will be the same issue
It’s this edition’s necron warriors
This combat patrol is an insult. It is pretty much the same as Leviathan and the Ultimate Starter Edition if we ignore the missing units between all 3 boxes.
So this is just 9th edition necron warriors all over again?
Very much the same as the Necron warrior box last edition.
Legit went to the store for drop day, saw this box and the price and put it right back down, such a dumb box for a ridiculous amount of money.
about as deranged as the pricing on the votann vehicles
The box kit Levitan is A number one heard the edition again is broken maybe GW needs a game actual master instead of cut for more and this supposed don't work?? You would think to cards first born including and tenths with terminator force sheild and necrons titans tau looking into it??coming soon like dam it "Com On GW"......😃😄😁😆😅 5 Smile's love the scale terminators. O tenth in Gravis.....🤤
You can find a tyranids half of the leviathan box for vheap since most marine piggies bought tons of the box.
not even with proper gaunt options...
Why you gonna buy this for 95 when for 65 you het this plus the space marines from the starter set
not to defend GW or anything, but im not entirely sure what their options were. they kinda painted themselves into a corner. this is the _third_ box set to release with tyranid models in a matter of months. it needs to include some of the new models, but nothing _too_ special, because its still supposed to be a 'basic' set. repeated contents are unavoidable.
also, they _have_ to release a combat patrol, because they've created a dedicated game mode for it. if they said "sorry, nid players, you're stuck with the old one because we dont feel like putting out a third box", nid players would be mad and rightly so. they wouldnt get to play with new models in the combat patrol game mode. alternatively, if GW acknowledged this problem with the starter set and sold the combat patrol at a lower price than usual, every _other_ faction would be mad. not to mention how this would confirm that they're overcharging for all this crap in the first place.
and to anyone thats going to say "just put different models in it", GWs entire business model is to get you started with something basic and start selling you the things you need to expand that army at full cost. they dont want to sell _every_ faction model at a discount. with obvious, limited exceptions, like the leviathan box.
at the end of the day, they didnt really have a choice. which is stupid, but it is what it is. eventually leviathan contents from resellers will run dry and even the starter box might stop being sold within a year or two. meanwhile, this nids combat patrol will be available for years and years. probably well into 11th edition.
im suprised when you do pricing you dont add australian dollary doos aswell. to show the rest of the world how up the arse we take it :P
GW being scummy? To their consumers!?
I mean it’s still a good deal for GW off the shelf
I was hoping they would make a combat control with hormagaunts and biovores. But of course they had to shift excess sprues.
How about I bought TWO of the old boxes... FML
necron + not-necron = less-than-necron
And GW wonders why people are turning to 3d printing.
thanks
Anyway it’s clear even to me that the combat patrol box is pretty bad compared to leviathan and the starter kit.
Departmento Retardius is acting up again.
God, I really am starting to dislike GW. Rip off after rip off. Utterly ingenuous to it's customer base.
Games workshop is so greedy
50 bucks for a biovore / pyrovore / lictor? Not fixing your broken ass lists with wargear?
Peace out.
Limited edition box is limited, who knew?
Gw is such a trash company.... they don't deserve this IP anymore.
Apart from this example, I think they are actually much better these days than they used to be. The starter sets are good value, the rules and datasheets are free and the introduction of combat patrol has made the game far more accessible to other types of players other than tryhard nerds
Somehow I felt less lucky after buying the old tyranid combat patrol kit
wada
Add a comment...😢
Games workshop at it again. Scimping, nickle and diming and shorting you.
Is actually more fun and accessible than 9th edition if you stop playing large 2000 points games with meta and rule abusing army lists
joke on you, I run eldar.
How's them nerfs treating you?
@@stolos2418they didn’t get nerfed NEARLY heavily enough
I’m pretty sure the joke is on yourself if you decided to play the boring space elves. Honestly drukhari are just more interesting in every way.
The joke is on anyone and everyone buying anything from GW; made and/or retailed
Ok, good for you. The others, don't be salty and complain so much, it doesn't look good at all
