Great video. Very informative. I will try when i get a chance and let you guys know. I know white vinegar has a strong smell to it, is there any vinegary smell after washed down? After washing the vinegar and dish soap mixture, can you use window cleaner spray then squeegee that down for a shiny/polish finish?
There will be a vinegar smell after you clean it, but it doesn’t stay very long. You can definitely use regular window cleaner after you use this. Let us know how it works for you!
@@AbbyPenny honestly i just cant believe how well this method works. Very simple and inexpensive products needed. My shower doors look like they're brand new again. No watermarks at all. I've seen many videos on UA-cam and TikTok and yours really caught my eye. Straight forward. For those that want to know what products i used and how i did it: I used Fairy Liquid and Sarsons White Vinegar (2 things i have always had in my house. But i didnt microwave the vinegar) Mixed them both thoroughly and used a Dish Sponge and rubbed it on to the shower doors for a solid 5-10 minutes and let it sit for about 45 minutes then washed it down with hot water using the shower head. Then i squeegeed it down and polished it with window cleaner and a microfiber cloth. Couldn't be any happier 👌💯👍 Cheers Abby you're a life saver 👊 P.S: Yes you was right. At first there was a really strong smell of White Vinegar but after washing it down and polish, it didnt last long 👍
Awesome!!! We are so happy to hear how much it helped! We were also very surprised with the results the first time we used it, but once we used it, we had to share!
I watched the video and decided to try it. I have 4 glass shower doors I've salvaged from a house being remodeled and they were covered in soap scum, calcium streaks, and just general dirt and mold. They came out pristine. This really works. Those door will be used as windows in our mini greenhouse. Thanks a bunch, I couldn't be happier with the results
Worked great! You definitely need to heat the vinegar as when the solution cools it clogs the spray bottle. As soon as the bottle clogged I put the bottle in hot water for 5 min or so to unclog. This worked for me!
I have tried EVERYTHINGbut nothing worked. I've spent so much money and then I came across this video! I already had the supplies so I tried it out and oh my God I was so amazed I was telling everybody to come look at my shower door. I was so excited. I'm doing it again today too is the only way I will ever clean glass 0:06 shower doors
I am going to try this. Normally, when the scale gets too bad on my shower doors, I lay paper towels on it and spray them with just vinegar to make them stick. Let them sit about 10 minutes and then go back, peel them off and rinse. It works very well but your way looks even easier. And I'm a weirdo who loves the smell of vinegar so it's a win/win for me. LMAO!
Brilliant, I've just tried it, and the sliding shower doors, are 'sparkling!' I've also put shaving cream over them; as my nephew showers everyday, whereas I prefer to bathe! Thank you.
@@AbbyPenny we were dealing with 70 year old tile and soap scum that was probably that old as well! The solution worked better than ANYTHING else we tried. Thanks!
How long will the mixture last? After I use, can I keep )(store)the mixture in the bottle for the next time? The vinegar will get cold if you store it, so how do you recommend heating it up or is that necessary. I did use your idea and it worked but I don´t want to have to mix it every time. Thanks.
Thanks for posting but this method did not work for severe buildup, even after 3 applications. Considerable spots remained. Perhaps the method of adding rubbing alcohol to this mix would help to cut the stubborn calcium stains on shower glass.
I use 1/3 C. Dawn to 2/3 C. generic white vinegar, stir together to mix in a measuring cup then pour into a dish wand and use that to wash down the shower walls, tub and faucet. Works better than anything.
I made the solution up, and it is in my spray bottle, is it okay if I reheat, the solution I have already, again, in the microwave, using a measuring cup, and then poor the heated solution again; back in the spray bottle?
Great video, just to add on: the fume of vinegar is not harmful unless you inhale a ridiculous amount of it over a ridiculous amount of time, which will be way too far to reach from working with it for 30 minutes. It is not even as 1% of poisonous as chlorine, or other chemicals, probably not even as bad as your perfume. you see, you could easily drink 5 tea spoons of vinegar and you are perfectly fine, but if you drink 5 tea spoon of perfume, it could be a different story. So this method is very safe.
I have been trying to get hard water stains off my shower door for 5 years now, I have tried EVERYTHINNG under the sun and nothing works. And so I tried this with high hopes and even applied it 3 times. With NO LUCK😭
@@AbbyPenny I have used both Walmart brand and Kroger in your concoction cleaning them biweekly. It seems using the squegee promptly is more important than the brand of dish soap
My shower door has never been cleaned in 17 years. The scum buildup is at least twice what yours was. Do you think this method will clean a door that dirty?
Heating the vinegar in the microwave does nothing to improve the efficiency of the vinegar so I will not be heating my vinegar when I do this but I am glad that you put the proportions
Just a FYI: During my research about this cleaning method, I read that heating the vinegar thickens it, so it is less runny and more able to cling to surfaces.
@@AbbyPenny I tried your concoction. It works amazing. I was so excited to show the result to my husband when he came back from work lol. Thanks for this great life hack.
I haven't cleaned my tub or shower in years! And they look like new! How often do you clean soap scum from the inside of your dish washer? How about from inside your washing machine? Correct, never. The best way to clean soap scum is never get it in the first place. Chunk all your bath soap and only use liquid soap. The main ingredient in bar soap is Sodium tallowate. Sodium tallowate is a true soap made by combining the fatty tissue (or tallow) of animals, such as cattle and sheep, with lye, typically sodium hydroxide". It's pure white animal fat that holds the soap in a clump. It sticks to the tile or tub and water will not run over it. Sits there and the water evaporates and leaves mineral deposits on the fat. Repeat a few times and you have "soap scum". Liquid soap or "detergent" holds oily skin residue in suspension and it washes everything away when you rinse. Just like your clothes or dish washer. Also an added benefit is that your drains will never clog up!!
I used WD-40 for my shower glass. After spraying, waiting 5 minutes, I wipe it down. This has lasted 5 months so far. You need to place newspapers on the shower floor to prevent slippery accident.
Did not work for me. I actually did 3 cycles of applying the mix per instructions in this video. Still plenty of calcium stains in the lower part of my shower glass. PS: I actually used 30% vinegar from homedepot. Still not working!!
Want to have super clean shower glass and NEVER have to put products on the glass? here is all you have to do. #1 get a water purification system installed in your home that takes out all of the impurities coming into the house from the house’s water source…#2 invest in a 12” squeegee from say Costco/Walmart/Target, wherever you can buy one… then, after each and every shower that anyone takes in that shower, immediately after showering and before you exit the shower, simply Squeegee off the glass door and any other glass in the shower…that’s it! I have lived in my present home, starting three years in October, and have done this ritual. Every time I have ever showered in the shower and the glass stays perfectly spotless and screak free and no need for cleaning with harsh chemicals and hoping that takes care of your issues, let the water purification system take out all the contaminants to where your water in your shower is pristine clean and then simply wipe the shower glass down. It takes you about 30 seconds to 45 seconds to do the door and at least one panel of other glass …there you go ..I have never ever had to use anything on my shower glass ever!

does this remove hard water limescale buildup on bathroom tiles ?.
Only on sealed times. Vinegar will break down and ruin sine natural tiles and work tops.

why heat up the vinegar?
From what I read, the soap and vinegar will normally separate. Warming the vinegar helps them mix.

Heat tends to speed up chemical reactions, so the hotter the solution is, the faster it should work in breaking down the mineral deposits.
