Since you are already microwaving the vinegar, wipe the microwave afterwards. The vinegar steam is great for that. A 2 for 1.

Great tip! What I do to clean my microwave is I microwave distilled water mixed with lemon juice long enough where it boils and there’s a steam, and the steam makes it soooo much easier to clean, and it’s without chemicals.

I use Dawn & vinegar for many cleaning tasks. You need to let it sit for 20-30 minutes before scrubbing or rinsing. Another tip: roll your bottle instead of shaking it & you won’t get so many bubbles.

I have acrylic tubs and showers, I use a Cascade dishwasher pod mixed with about 2 cups of water, sponge it on one section then wait a few minutes before scrubbing lightly with sponge and rinse. Comes out fantastic-this also is terrific for tile surrounds as well.

When my daughter was in diapers 58 years ago, there were no disposable diapers. I used cloth diapers, which stained terribly because of the high ammonia content in her urine. I tried everything but her diapers were never bright white. I read in the newspaper a hack for whitening diapers. When I changed her diapers, I always put them in a diaper pail with water until wash day. The hack suggested putting Cascade dish washer detergent in the diaper pail. It worked beautifully-the diapers were bright white.

I like vinegar and Dawn dish soap as a cleaner. It works really well.
I also bought an electric rechargeable brush scrubber from Amazon for cleaning the bath, and it has been a game changer. Used with the cleaners, it cleans faster and it saves on labor because it’s doing all the scrubbing for you, and it has a long handle where you can do everything standing up. The other added bonus is I can also use it (with a different brush head) on my tile floors, and my floors look like new.

Warning: I once microwaved a cup of white vinegar, full strength, for 5 minutes. The reason I came up with this big idea, was I wanted to clean out my microwave. My son had used it the day before, and it now had a huge baked--on mess of whatever it was that he cooked. About 3 or 4 minutes in, I heard a loud bang. I ran into the kitchen to find that the microwave door had blown open, when the vinegar heated up and exploded. Since it now looked safe, I went ahead and cleaned It out, as planned. It did clean up very easily. Unbelievably, the door seemed to not be damaged. Still, I should have probably thrown it away because it could have gotten an undetected radiation leak. I'm not qualified to give advise on this subject, but personally speaking, I won't ever heat up full strength vinegar again. And, I wouldn't heat up vinegar that's strongly diluted with water, longer than 2 minutes. Actually, even taking those precautions, I don't know if I would ever do it again. If you just want to clean out your microwave, boiling a cup of water in the microwave for 5 minutes, works just as well as hot vinegar. And, no explosions.

    • @Xeyxey0
      @Xeyxey0 2 роки тому +25

It might've been whatever container you used to microwave it in had fissures in it, and the heat was too much for it. Even Pyrex are known to explode in certain conditions. But 5 mins in general for a small container seems really long in general, I don't think I'd even microwave water that long.

You can achieve a wonderful result with so much less effort by using a 75% vinegar solution and get it steamy but NOT boiling then add the BLUE Dawn dish soap in a 1:1 ratio in a spray bottle. Take this mixture a spray it on all the surfaces liberally. Then let it set for 2 hours without doing anything. After 2 hours start rinsing everything down with just plain water, perhaps from the detachable shower head. Then to make it super easy USE A BROOM, dedicated for this purpose only, to scrub all the soap scum and hard water stains away. I just let the hot water trickle out of the spout to keep my nylon broom bristles wet as I'm scrubbing. Then give your surfaces another water rinse. YOU WILL BE AMAZED at how this works. I first saw this technique on a UA-cam however I can't remember the lady's name that shared her technique but I just tried this yesterday on my shower tub that I had neglected cleaning for 3+ years. WOW was I impressed with how it looks now!

Just a quick comment, after researching the effect of mixing vinegar and a variety of soaps like Dawn, Castille soap, etc...It appears that mixing them together causes one to weaken the effect of the other. Used separately is different. I, for example, wash pet dishes with a solution of Dawn (2-3 tbsp) and water (16 oz) in a spray bottle, rinse, spray with a vinegar and water solution (1:1) in a spray bottle and rinse again. The vinegar solution removes any soap residue (or saliva residue) in the dishes. I also use this method to wash travel mugs and bottles to eliminate any soap residue. I found a product called "Iron Out" very effective when I had hard water staining in my bathtub. I do use Dawn dish detergent alone to clean the tub and to clean grease stains from clothing (a drop rubbed into the grease stain before tossing the item into the washer)...great results!

I agree. Many of these ‘recipes’ are not based in science. For instance there’s no advantage in heating the vinegar up. Putting baking powder down a sink and following with vinegar doesn’t create the brilliant cleaning blockage clearing volcano many claim- you see action on the outside, but the vinegar works the same with or without the baking powder. It will clear some blockages and not others and is better followed with hot water to remove any grease the vinegar starts to break down. Many people also don’t realise that vinegar is not an effective germ/virus killer. Best use of vinegar is removal of hard water deposits, but it can ruin some unsealed natural stone tiles and can ruin grout also.

I always used either Ajax powder cleanser or Comet powdered cleanser to clean the tub after every use. I never wanted to get in the tub that hadn’t been cleaned and sanitized. I would sprinkle the cleanser around as soon as the water drained out and I use white washcloths that I get very inexpensive at Walmart for cleaning the tub. Wet them down and start rub around and clean off the soapy residue and skin cells, then use the sprayer that I have installed in both of our bathtubs to thoroughly rinse the powder dow the drain. My tubs have always stayed shiny and clean. You letting that rust stain build up and then using a scratchy sponge is actually damaging the glaze on the tub making it more likely to stain always. My mother-in-law never could understand how my tub was so shiny. When you let a stain set into fabric, tubs, wall or whatever the harder it is to remove. Do it immediately, I live in the country too and we have rust in the water too. Those powdered cleansers also have some chlorine type chemical in them that bleach’s and disinfects.

The dawn and vinegar seems to work well with soap scum and shining up the chrome (like you mentioned) but not necessarily hard water stains in my experience. I recently moved down to Florida where I have some pretty harsh well water so my shower gets pretty rusty looking fairly fast. For me I have found two things that work. 1.) Lime-a-way. This is nice because you can spray it, leave it, and rinse it (no scrubbing) but it can be streaky and I find scrubbing doesn’t help it. 2.) Barkeeper’s Friend. This is the one where scrubbing is needed but you can be more thorough. Another con of this for me is it makes my hands peel like a lizard. Those are the two things that I have had luck with using for my hard water stains.

I saw what you were doing with the vinegar and Dawn. If you don't mind chemicals, I too live out in the country and my water is so rusty and hard. My tub got really bad, because of being handicapped. It was so dark orange it was disgusting. Anyway, I filled the tub about with about 4 - 5 inches of hot water. Then I put 1 bottle of the "Works" that I got for a dollar at dollar tree and half bottle of "Rust out." I let it sit for about 30 minutes. The part that was under water was completely clean without touching it. But being handicapped I brought one of those scrubbers that goes round and round that I also had to charge up. I was lucky that the concoction worked so well because I didn't have to scrub that hard on the rest of the tub. Anyway I don't use that strong stuff on a reg basis but I just thought if the rust got out of control again you might want to try it. If rusts builds up around the drain, cover with hot water and put a little Lysol rust toilet bowl cleaner in and let sit for a little bit. After rust is gone, drain and rinse cleaner out. Oh by the way, that toilet bowl cleaner, Lysol rust toilet cleaner in the black bottle is the best cleaner that I've found for hard water. Sometimes its hard to find because the stores run out so fast. Whenever I find some, I buy several bottles of it.

You don’t have to heat the vinegar for it to work. Also if you put some baking soda on the stain first then spray with the vinegar and dawn solution, stains will be one quickly. When you spray the baking soda with the vinegar solution it will foam making clean up quick and easy The vinegar is natural but the dawn is not, so keep that in mind if you think you are using a totally natural cleaning solution. Since down is safe on pets (ie, you can clean oil off a duck with it), I use it regularly.

I saw a video on You Tube last year about hard water removal. In the comment section someone had suggested to use a straight razor to scrape off the hard water scum on glass beveled shower doors. I tried it on the inside of the door and it worked. That suggestion was the only thing that cleaned the door. It might take a while but to me it's worth the scrubbing time.

Blue is opposite yellow on the color wheel. They neutralize the opposite tone but not necessarily diss appear. Elbow grease and bleach does though. So the scrubbing and the magic eraser did more I think. Dawn is soap so it does clean. Making the solution hot helps melt the grime so it’s easier to scrub it. Baking soda for abrasion is right. But, in the end, you could accomplish all of it with comer which is probably not more toxic than the magic eraser.

New tubs n showers are smooth n shiny so if you have time to polish your surface with say car polish will this help. Quick wipe down after using and try not scour n scratch or leave cleaning for so long. Best of luck from the land of the Kiwi.

Well, it may have taken more heat and soaking time; it looks like it worked. I have an acrylic tub also and live in the Country with very hard water also. I have always used old fashioned Comet scouring powder with bleach and the cheapest bleach cleaner in lemon scent, (from Walmart), with a kitchen scrubbie like your’s. It works GREAT and is not too abrasive. My tub always looks great after that combo and I use the scrubbie side not just the sponge side. I figure if that plastic scrubbie side does not hurt my ceramic lined Frying pans and pots it should be safe enough for my tub. It is.
If You would prefer a more natural cleaner; I use a lemon and the lemon juice with Baking soda on the top of my glass top range. It is the only cleaner that gets the white rings to show the burners, white again. I use the lemon as my scrubbie. I cut it in half. Put baking soda all on the burners that are the worst and greasy. I take 1/2 of the lemon and squeeze all of the juice all over the range top with the burners rings getting the most of each cleaners. I then pick up any pits from the lemon and scrub with the fleshy side of the lemon all over the range top. It works AWESOMELY! I am sure that it works in the tub also. You may need 2 or 3 lemons for a whole tub though. Sorry for this novel. I just wanted to share my hacks from my hot water stained Country home also. 😊👍🏼💕

I sometimes use vinegar to remove rust from delicate iron parts in the garage. It works pretty well but it does take some time, a few hours on some things. That water would drive me nuts! Have you considered a filter on the supply line to the house? one thing you may want to look into is getting your well bleached. growing up we lived in the country and we had problems with high iron content. we ended up getting a water conditioner to treat it. years later when getting the foot valve replaced in the well the plumber company said that we had an iron algae growing in the well and that's where a lot of the iron was coming from. once the well had been bleached it killed the algae and we no longer had the rust problem. we still have our water conditioner but we go through much less salt now that the iron algae has been killed by the bleach.

I have much iron in my water and the yellow stains are horrendous, but I need to keep after it every time I use the tub and I don’t. I’ll definitely try this. But first I will use a commercial product called WHINK. I had such a gross toilet. with rust streaks that nothing helped. A friend of mine from the New Jersey shore put me onto it. She said everybody at the shore used it. I couldn’t believe my eyes. In less then a minute a miracle happened. The streaks were gone. VOILA!!!! I had a nice white toilet again. . Since I got a whole new water treatment this has reduced the prior problems. But if I don’t keep up with the water treatment the yellow comes back. I fully recommend this product and no I’m not affiliated with the company so this endorsement is to help anyone struggling with really nasty iron problems. Good luck.
