Worked great for me. I’m 65 and lost my wife two years ago. Tried everything to keep the shower clean with little success…until now. She would be very happy. Not that I found this but that I didn’t give up until it was “her” type of clean. Thanks for the info!
Well, I just love hearing this story! I know you had to have smiled when you saw how clean it ended up being and knowing she would be standing there with her nod of approval. Thanks for sharing!
For 15 years I've been scrubbing the shower in the basement at my grandfather's house and it never gets clean and I've literally tried everything all the way down to engine cleaner. This actually worked it's finally clean.
I think you might have unlocked a life achievement! 💪 Congrats! It’s always so satisfying when you finally clean something impossible to clean, but frustrating when you find out it was so simple 🤭
I've used this solution in the past and just forgot about how good it is. For months I've been staring at my scummy tub/shower combination and just dreading getting down on my hands and knees to scrub it. Just getting the energy to tackle the job was one thing, and I decided today was the day! First I tried Comet and the Pink Stuff but neither were doing a good job. I remembered my spray bottle of this solution and gave it a try. With minimal arm motion it was clean, white and sparkling again. Since I'm 76 I really don't enjoy "heavy" cleaning anymore so this has really helped me out. Thank you for sharing!
You have got to be kidding me. For 14 months I was trying to figure out how to get rid of the dark scummy buildup in my bathroom sink since I moved into my apartment. I did 2 parts vinegar and one part dawn. It took me less than 2 minutes to get my sink looking white as snow. You my dear are a life saver. Thankyou so much for posting this.
After months of my wife complaining that I wasn't getting the shower clean enough, I tried this DIY solution. Definitely works! I left it on for 5 minutes and some of the stubborn dirt that wouldn't come off with store bought cleaners easily wiped away. Looks ten times better! Thanks!
Thank you! I just mixed up this cleaner as you 'prescribed' and the shower stall and tub that would NOT come clean with 6 different cleaners plus a steam cleaner came clean with the Dawn & Vinegar! I am so grateful. I am cleaning a hoarders house. You can just imagine the unimaginable - a tub and shower used by 3 people who washed a husky and a german shepherd in it too; and never, ever, ever cleaned it in years. Nothing moved it before the dawn and vinegar. All I had to do was spray and leave it for about 3 minutes and it's coming right off. This really is a miracle cleaner. Thumbs up, subscribed and so grateul I will promise you my first born if you want him. LOL.
This made my shower glass doors *sparkly* clean thank you! There was MONTHS of cloudy build up on them cuz I was tired of spending a lot of money on Don Aslett Shower N Stuff (plus so many harsh chemicals I felt like I was gonna get cancer from it lol). My sister cleans houses professionally so I asked her what I should use She forwarded me this video!
Thank you so much for posting this! We have a rental inspection coming up next week and I was dreading trying to get the shower and bathroom clean. You're right, it does work. I had both ingredients and used an old sponge (hand sponge) on walls and a bristle type plastic handle brush on the flooring... So far so good. And no lung damage from icky chemicals!!! What peace of mind. God bless you a hundred fold for passing on what you learned and spreading the blessing to others like me. 🙂
I was on a web page that listed a very cryptic why you should put on liquid in your tub at night if you live alone. Then of course when you click on it it takes you want to know sites that says the 40 things hacks that you can do around the home, and there was a button is that start slideshow. Which means they were going to make me go from page to page and not even show what I clicked on the thumbnail for in the first place and somebody gets paid each time you click. So I just Googled Dawn dishwashing liquid in the bathtub and your video came right up. Thanks I hate those damn Hustlers making you click on stuff 600 times
@Sherman Springfield I use all three together but mostly I make a paste with the baking soda and vinegar. I clean cookware. I use to to pass the kids plastic cups. Dawn is great to clean a tub. But google it. There's tons of cleaning ideas. I've cleaned baseboards and window tracks too.
Hi HeartofDixie, I was wondering what the baking soda does in your recipe. Does it act as a natural abrasive, or does it dissolve stains in some way? Im just wondering how it works. Thank you, I’m excited to try it!
@@heartofdixieprepping4797 I was super skeptical about the vinegar/dawn recipe nut it worked pretty good on my stand up shower. But not good enough! I’m hoping your recipe will be a home run. Ps, I sent you a question in the comment thread. :) thanks again! 🙏

I have been using this mixture for a few years now in my shower and it works great on soap scum, mold and mildew. Much better than the stronger store bought cleaners actually made to get rid of mold and mildew. The bottle I had lasted a few years so it has been a while since I needed to mix more up - had to come and find the correct ratio. I think before it was like 50/50. This mixture makes a lot more sense. Thanks
Thank you for your cleaning recipe. I tried a different ratio of this mixture in the past. That one included baking soda. It worked but it was way too sudsy and the baking soda kept clogging the sprayer. Your recipe is much, much better and is just as effective. Thanks a bunch.
Thanks for sharing! I need to get one of those scrub brushes and give it a try. That blue Dawn also works great for cleaning lots of things you may not want harsher cleaners on - I use it to hand wash cotton face masks (I soak them with the Dawn & hot water a while to kill germs), clean out the interior of handbags, clean up shoes (it works good on the rubber part too), clean up random spills/smells on carpet, etc.
I love the idea of the vinegar and the soap actually enclosed in the scrub brush chamber!!! GREAT IDEA!! Yes, me too, I can't handle sprayed vinegar or bleach! I sprayed vinegar once in my shower and the particulates in the air were inhaled by me while cleaning and it really burned my throat and nose and I coughed for a couple of days. Vinegar is a strong acid. Bleach, when sprayed, is a bad idea because it also creates chlorine particulates in the air and possibly a chlorine cloud which is really bad (she's not using bleach here though). I am looking for a non-chemical cleaner for my shower glass since I want it to sparkle :-) I am going to try 1/2 lemon with salt on it first and/or possibly vinegar mixed with baking soda to make a paste. Anything with vinegar though, I cough.
This works on everything. I used Dawn Platinum and I have used it on everything including mopping my floors (I dilute in 2-3 gal hot water) picks up and eradicates dirt and smells
Granddaughter used this today as we were cleaning the bathrooms. It worked like a damn! It's not hazardous, it has no harsh chemicals and it does the job. I also use this in the laundry....also does a great job.
There is nothing like Dawn. We use it for many things but here's one you've probably never heard before. A small amount on dentures, lightly rubbed and rinsed makes for a slime free surface (sorry about that) that will enable denture adhesive to work much better. I have no doubt a whole book could be published on the uses for Dawn.
I'm going to try this cleanser for the bathroom. Thank you so much. I tried it and it works, but it didn't work well on old scum so I added baking powder and it worked like a miracle.
Wow, this cleaning solution worked wonders on my acrylic shower enclosure. It is pretty stinky but well worth it. I was able to gently work the surface with a microfiber cloth, rinsing often, and the wall was clean! Thank you!
You're welcome! I'm glad to hear it worked for you too. That is bray funny you say its stinky... I still have not gotten used to the smell, but I love the results

Nice. I’m going to try this for our shower tub that’s deep texture fiberglass. Being in my sixties it’s getting difficult to reach in and over it all. To do this while in there using that scrub tool sounds right up my alley. 2 👍👍
I think it will work perfect for you. My tub was pretty yucky with soap scum. After a couple times of doing this, it was very easy to maintain and keep clean each week.
This is helpful. I have a really nasty looking shower stall that has mildew stains. Just FYI another video shows to heat the vinegar and also use baking soda and to let it sit for a while. Thanks.
Hello! If your shower is really bad, you may need to use the other method. I've had great success with using it this way, but baking soda is such a great cleaning ingredient also, I am sure it would be a great addition.
It works! It may take a few times if it's really nasty. Spray it on and let it set for a few minutes to let it work on the grime. Once you get it really clean, it will be easy to keep clean from now on.
This is great. I live in Europe so I don't have access to Dawn. Instead I use laundry detergent and it works just as well. Spray along inside the tub, wait 20 -30 minutes, and wipe. Works like a charm!
Its good to know that detergent other than Dawn works well too! Dawn isn't available for everyone or people can't use it for other reasons. Thanks for sharing about a different option!
I am so sensitive to fragrance, so your tip about laundry detergent is a great idea. I will try my fragrance-free laundry detergent. For some reason, Dawn gives me an allergic reaction and a sinus infection.
I've been using blue Dawn since getting a sample bottle placed in a bag on my front door in 1976. Don't know why, but the other Dawn colors don't work as well. Is that just me or does anyone else find that to be true? I use pure Dawn as a de-greaser on engine parts and it works great to get hands totally clean when the engine work is done.
I kinda like this idea, although Dawn is NOT a natural dish detergent (no shame as I use the same thing). My other thought is to possibly use a funnel to help with not spilling the detergent. You can find them in any hardware section of a store for super cheap.
Thank you for the proportions! I did the half and half before and you're totally right! Too many suds! 😅 I think the Dawn that they used in the original 'recipe' must not have been as concentrated as it is now days.
You are absolutely amazing. What stores do you usually do your grocery shopping at? Do you ever stock up on anything like soda or water? Can you possibly do some in store grocery shopping videos? It would be awesome if you could show how you do your full shopping trip
Great tip. Sandy. I apologize if I'm wrong or if this has been discussed. At 3:24 the ratio is 2/3 vinegar to 1/3 Dawn. However, at 4:09 the ratio has been flopped to 2/3 Dawn and 1/3 vinegar. How about clarifying the ratio in your comment section. Thanks.
New renovated bathroom here, first shower cleaning I used BonAmi but it messed grout up. Crew had to come back and fix it. I will now try this mixture. Can I also use this on the porcelain bath floor?
Sure! Although I am not sure if the additional water will make it suds up even more. You will have to try it and let all of us know. Tons of us read the comments and learn from them
I am not sure, Kimberly. Maybe call a flooring place and ask them to be sure. I know that I use it on our porcelain sinks and toilets without a problem, but am not sure about floors.
When recording your videos, try using your phone in landscape mode. Vertical presentations are really annoying to people who watch UA-cam on a PC or TV.
Thank you SO much!! This worked perfectly. I can't even begin to explain all the things I have tried that did not work. I didn't even have to wipe that hard to get the grime off!!! :)
I tried the dawn mixed with vinegar this morning. I was amazingly surprised that this really works to clean the bathtub. Thank you for putting this video out for others to try. Also do you have any videos on what to use to clean inside of oven?
Do you have any Advice on cleaning out washers I have a front loader I know how to drain the water but I don’t know how to get the black stuff around the gray rubber by the door in the water smells terrible
Hi! I would get the surface wet and then sprinkle baking soda in your tub or shower. Then use your scrubber with your dawn and vinegar over the baking soda. Baking soda and vinegar will bubble up, so don't add baking soda to the mix or you would have an exploding combination.
That is a great idea and would definitely work better. Sometimes I read the comments and think, duh, why didn't I think of that. Lol. I always learn from the comments.
I made this with 16 oz vinegar and 6 oz blue Dawn. It is still too sudsy. I think I should have made a much smaller batch first. Now I have a giant bottle of this stuff that I’m afraid to use in my shower (for fear that it will take a lot of water to rinse the soap out or it will be slippery). Can I add more vinegar to dilute the mixture? At this rate it will take forever to use it up. Was thinking about throwing the whole thing out.
Yes, you can add more vinegar to dilute it. I make it in smaller batches because if it sits for a really long time (months and months), it goes rancid.
@@artisacat, it is safe to use on tile...and grout, as long as you are washing back off. If grout is not sealed, I would not use vinegar on it. But, otherwise it is safe. I use it in my tile shower.
I assume most soaps will work. I haven't tried anything other than Dawn soap though. The blue kind seems to really get rid of soap scum. Plus its cheap at the dollar tree for just $1.25 a bottle. Used to be a dollar but of course they raised their prices.

I kinda like this idea, although Dawn is NOT a natural dish detergent (no shame as I use the same thing). My other thought is to possibly use a funnel to help with not spilling the detergent. You can find them in any hardware section of a store for super cheap.
Thank you for sharing sandy!
You're a great teacher! Thank you!
I am glad this was helpful! Thanks for letting me know.
Works great! Buy cleaning vinegar instead and mix 1 cup vinegar and half cup liquid soap. Spray and leave for 30 mins, then rinse with sponge
I have never used cleaning vinegar. Thanks for sharing this so others know too.,
Worked great on shower floor!!! Thanks
Great to hear! Thanks for letting me know.
Can you recommend your favorite cleaning tools and products
Thank you for the proportions! I did the half and half before and you're totally right! Too many suds! 😅 I think the Dawn that they used in the original 'recipe' must not have been as concentrated as it is now days.
Right?!! Lol I am glad you found this recipe, because it totally works!
Thank you, I'm going to do that! What do you use to clean ovens?
I made a video on how I clean the oven with baking soda and Dawn. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/83r6UqEmuNo/v-deo.html
Great video. Do you have a video for cleaning floors and walls? Thank you.
Thanks sweetie pie! Works like a gem.
Yay! I am so glad it worked for you too!
Awesome! You are delightfully funny🥰
Thanks for this video. I like the idea of using vinegar for disinfecting.
You're welcome, Sherri! Thanks for watching
You are absolutely amazing. What stores do you usually do your grocery shopping at? Do you ever stock up on anything like soda or water? Can you possibly do some in store grocery shopping videos? It would be awesome if you could show how you do your full shopping trip
Sure, I will do a grocery haul video. Thanks for the idea!
You remind me so much of Nancy Travis on Last Man Standing!
Some other people have told me that before too.
Does it works for hard water stains too?
Thank you so much!!
Great tip. Thanks.
You are absolutely right, and that is a great idea to clarify in the comments that it is 2/3 vinegar and 1/3 dawn. Thank you.
New renovated bathroom here, first shower cleaning I used BonAmi but it messed grout up.
Crew had to come back and fix it.
I will now try this mixture.
Can I also use this on the porcelain bath floor?
Vinegar has so many uses. Stock up on it you could probably do an entire video on just vinegar
Vinegar really does have soooo many uses. It is a must have in my house.
Just use dawn powerwash now. Amazing
Thank you! Is it okay to add water to it to make it thinner and less suds?
Sure! Although I am not sure if the additional water will make it suds up even more. You will have to try it and let all of us know. Tons of us read the comments and learn from them
Can I safely use this on a porcelain floor in a shower!?
I am not sure, Kimberly. Maybe call a flooring place and ask them to be sure. I know that I use it on our porcelain sinks and toilets without a problem, but am not sure about floors.
I use this all the time.
Such a good cleaner!
When recording your videos, try using your phone in landscape mode.
Vertical presentations are really annoying to people who watch UA-cam on a PC or TV.
Thanks - 2/3 vinegar and 1/3 Dawn works perfectly!!!
Great! Thanks for letting me know that it worked for you too!
Going to try, but it would have been nice if you would have demonstrated !!!
It totally works! I made this video originally as a "live" video on Facebook which is why I didn't demonstrate.
Thank you SO much!! This worked perfectly. I can't even begin to explain all the things I have tried that did not work. I didn't even have to wipe that hard to get the grime off!!! :)
Wonderful. am so glad to hear it worked well for you too!
Trying this, thank you
You’re welcome! It works great
Thank you so much for sharing!
You're welcome. :)
Thanks! Great idea! I can't wait to try it!👍😊
You are so welcome!
Why blue Dawn? I have orange Dawn. Will it work as well?
I tried the dawn mixed with vinegar this morning. I was amazingly surprised that this really works to clean the bathtub. Thank you for putting this video out for others to try. Also do you have any videos on what to use to clean inside of oven?
Yes, I do! How to clean the oven:

Thank you!
❤tks I will try this
I hope it works for you as well as it does for me!
Do you have any Advice on cleaning out washers I have a front loader I know how to drain the water but I don’t know how to get the black stuff around the gray rubber by the door in the water smells terrible
Tfs. Does this mixture work on kitchen fiberglass sink?
would adding baking soda into the mix help to? i feel like it would
Hi! I would get the surface wet and then sprinkle baking soda in your tub or shower. Then use your scrubber with your dawn and vinegar over the baking soda. Baking soda and vinegar will bubble up, so don't add baking soda to the mix or you would have an exploding combination.
@@sandysteinbrook i was literally about to make an explosion 🤣 ... thank you
Using a funnel might work well to fill your scrubber.
That is a great idea and would definitely work better. Sometimes I read the comments and think, duh, why didn't I think of that. Lol. I always learn from the comments.
Could dish-washer machine soap be used instead of normal washing up liquid - It would create less soapy suds? Just a thought..
I have never tried it, but it may. I love when people comment and give new ideas.
Also is it safe to use this mixture on delicate tiles and grout?
Yes, you can add more vinegar to dilute it. I make it in smaller batches because if it sits for a really long time (months and months), it goes rancid.
@@artisacat, it is safe to use on tile...and grout, as long as you are washing back off. If grout is not sealed, I would not use vinegar on it. But, otherwise it is safe. I use it in my tile shower.
I spray the shower and scrub with a stiff broom. Much easier than a hand held brush.
Thanks for sharing your tip!
Does this concoction work in toilet bowls as well???
It is worth a try!
How long can you let the mixture sit in the spray bottle before having to throw it out?
I am not sure. I use it weekly, so once I make a batch, I use it up before it goes rancid. But, I am sure if it sits for months it will get nasty.
Your video was fab and you are adorable! ty
how to get the pump to work on the dawn liquid progessional
Does ajax soap work too?
I assume most soaps will work. I haven't tried anything other than Dawn soap though. The blue kind seems to really get rid of soap scum. Plus its cheap at the dollar tree for just $1.25 a bottle. Used to be a dollar but of course they raised their prices.
@@sandysteinbrook makes sense, plus I guess if that stuff cleans the oil off animals - it's probably worth it.
