the idea for this cover was entirely birthed by my recent obsession with the 2022 adaptation of "a league of their own." i think i remember seeing a fan cam of d'arcy carden as greta gill, and then going down an entire rabbit hole of figuring out what her character was from and what it was about.
a quick synopsis from wikipedia: "The series, set in 1943, is about the formation of the Rockford Peaches, a women's team in the nascent All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. Carson Shaw leaves her small town life to pursue her dream of playing professional baseball, while her husband is away at war. Maxine Chapman is an African-American woman obsessed with baseball, who cannot even get people to allow her to try-out and struggles to get considered for any baseball team."
needless to say, i quickly fell in love with the relationship between the characters carson shaw (played by abbi jacobson) and greta gill (played by d'arcy carden). for a while, i had actually fantasized about doing a cover of "bei mir bist du schoen" and centering it around them. the idea came to me from my knowledge of the play, "indecent," and the way that the song was used there. "indecent" spans from 1906 to 1953, and in the play this song is sung by the sapphic characters, reina and dine. with the way "indecent" visits the same time period as ALOTO and includes a story about gay women, i was inspired to apply this song to carson and greta. it all started off as a small, whimsical idea, and then my obsession with it took over and drove me to make it a reality.
some special thankses:
💗 special thanks to @annapantsu for being so gracious to join me on this cover. i thought of you when coming up with this idea because i saw you liked jazz, and i just thought your voice would work so well with the harmonies and style of this song. thank you for listening to me excitedly talk about this cover over discord.
💗 special thanks to @GezeusQuiryst for mixing this cover. you were an absolute delight to work with, and you were probably the first person to compliment me by saying my vocals were "cracked" (i'll be using that more often!).
💗 special thanks to @maddiedrawz, who i commissioned to draw the art of carson and greta used here. it was so nice to be able to work with a fellow fan of ALOTO, and you were such joy and fun to talk to throughout the process of working on this.

@@mullerpotgieter *Sure, I can make that happen.*
Hello, I don’t want to be rude but as tmnt Donnie likes to say: it’s always good to be actuate so I’m just going to point out that it’s spelled ‘schön’ not schoen. Of course you can completely ignore this comment. It’s not a hate comment either, I just wanted to point it out, nothing more. I also understand that the English language doesn’t have the letter ‘ö’ so this is an useless comment. Have a nice day/night ^^
First time I ever heard this song was Rebecca Parham's 1 Million subscriber milestone. I'm glad to see another lovely cover
OMG that’s my first time hearing it too! I love love LOVE Rebecca! Hearing this from Justine and Annapantsu, my two favourite cover artists was a delight.
sehr wunderbar gesungen :D great job! I love it
OML I LOVE THIS YOU BOTH PRONOUNCED IT CORECTLY IM SO HAPPY *german aproved* TVT ITS SO LOVELY
Actually, the only German word in the song is "wunderbar." The title is Yiddish, not German. The song was written in 1932 by two Jewish American songwriters, Salom Secunda and Jacob Jacobs. The lyrics were originally all in Yiddish. Then in 1937, two other Jewish American songwritters, Sammy Cahn and Saul Chaplin, wrote new English lyrics, but kept the original Yiddish title. The song, with English lyrics, became a huge hit in 1937-1938, the biggest hit sung by the Andrews Sisters. The song is considered a great American standard
This song is amazing by itself but then you two did a cover on it together and made it even better! Then adding the wlw part of it just puts the cherry on top.
THIS IS MIND-BLOWING! YOU FEEL THE CHEMISTRY BETWEEN THEM AND THE STORY MAKES YOU EMBRACE THE SONG EVEN MORE.
The art alone 😍 ahh I'm so excited for this cover!
I love this so much. I've literally never heard of the Andrews Sisters before
same
I'm so glad that you and Anna did a cover together your voices are so good together 😍
Very well done!
In both the swinging vocals and the backstory and chemistry of the girls! Truly and really felt genuine!
My grandma and I would sometimes sing this song. I miss her, and this song reminds me of her. She passed away a few months ago. This song, among other songs I would sing with her, holds a special place in my heart.
AAAAAA I’M SO EXCITED!!! I already know this is going to be lovely! ❤️
Oml this is absolutely amazing!, it gives off such a good energy that I can't even explain!, you both really did an awesome job!
i keep coming to this song everyday, gives me the serotonin boost
Fr your talent deserves wayyyyyyyyy more subs man you're sooooo underated

Glorious song ever coming from, you Justine's Mic and annapantsu i love it to the both of you ma'am
✨️really well pronounced ☺️I'm German btw 😂is a beautiful cover i love your voices☺️✨️
Not so got pronounced, man konnte sehr das weiche englische raus hören.
@@RipVan.Winkel Only "mir" and "sehr" was kinda of, but other than that the pronunciation was pretty perfect.
@@senittoaoflightning4404 and schön was pronounced like schenn. The singing is great, but by no means is the German pronunciation good (which is honestly just part of the song anyways, nobody ever pronounces the German in this song well)
Actually, the only German word in the song is "wunderbar," (And the lyrics are "I could SAY wunderbar" not "sehr wunderbar.") The title is Yiddish, not German, and promiunced CORRECTLY.. @@aresee8208 Yiddish is a "child language" of German, causing the Yiddish lyrics, including the title, to still pretty much be German.
This song is SO good, finally someone cover itt!! And you made it better omfg 🛐
I really like the intro. It has a similar vibe to the first Andrews Sisters' recording. Later versions seem to have lost that.
I just came across this and I would so love this song to be on spotify somehow because it is so so so GOOD!
GOSH I LOVE WLW COVERS SO MUCHH❤️❤️❤️❤️
My favorite cover of yours so far. This has to be your best work. Great job. I

Rebecca Parham : YESSSSSSSSS!!!
LOVELY COVER
you guys did an awesome job! you would know that the vocals are too op and cracked when melodyne refuses to detect your vocal techniques
The duo we've been waiting for
Bopping my head along like a bobbleahad to this one 😌🎶
The shorter one reminds me of aunt cass from big hero six. Take it as you will.
Holy Shit! Loved this song since it was part of Academic Decathlon in high school. This is excellent!
WOW!
*Yessssss*
Bei mir bist du schön is actually pronounced pretty good
😍
Wait show this to let me explain studio!
I know this is about an entirely different fandom and pairing but every time I see the thumbnail, I keep thinking of cartinelli, Peggy Carter and Angie Martinelli, from Agent Carter. 😭
Damn a klezmer song
u 2 are 🤩
😎🌟😎🌟😎🌟😎🌟😎🌟
Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen- You’re beautiful with me
I didnt expect Bei mir bist du schön or any german at all. People usually stay away from german

@@aresee8208 I think I can tell the difference between Yiddish, German and English. It originally was in Yiddish yeah but this Version is English and German. We have our own version too
@@aresee8208 i never said it isnt Yiddish, I know that it is. Du bist schön is exactly the same sentence and pronounciation as in german and in the english version that is pretty much the only thing said aside of english. So idk what the problem is
@@tei9317 The problem is you said it was German. It is not. It is Yiddish and only Yiddish. Even the German singer, Max Raabe knows the correct pronunciation.

Have a nice day.
@@aresee8208 Maybe because I didnt know at the time that it is Yiddish because as I said, the pronounciation for that sentence is in both languages the same. I've heard authentic Yiddish before and obviously german too. Theyre not the same but that sentence is, thats why it might get confused with each other, got it?
Somehow, because I listened to this first, I prefer this cover to the original.
i missed NOOOOOOOO by like 10 minutes :
