Sometimes you just gotta take a nostalgic song and add way more harmonies than necessary, yknow? I’m afraid I don’t have too much to say for this bad boy but I hope you enjoy it regardless.
I’m also sorry for the lack of subtitles on this video, last night got a bit hectic and I wasn’t feeling up to dealing with all the changing text colors.

What I've always thought was great about it is anybody who thinks Anneliese has it better because she's not in poverty, is proved wrong with this verse. She does *in a way*, but Erica will taste freedom one day even if it'll be a long wait. People enjoy her singing so she should have a shot at a decent life. You can't escape your birthright on the other hand. It's clever of them.

For those who don't get it:
Each gift represented the ties she would be making if she married. Hence why she said strings. It's like a puppet with strings to control them.
I actually think she's relating it more to her own position - she's a princess, and many beautiful things come with it ("presents"), but her caveat (or "string") is that she can't really choose what she wants or marry who she wants because of her duty as a princess. It plays on the idiom "no strings attached."
No, the presents most likely come from diplomats. Accepting the gifts comes with an expectation that they will work together. So strings attached.

@@BeesMeliss even though something is a gift, it could have strings attached meaning if I do this, then you have to do that for me because I did that for you. In the movie the princess has to marry a prince she doesn't want to in order to save her kingdom. Being a princess is the gift but having to marry someone she doesn't want to is the strings attached

I always thought it meant that every present comes with strings: Everything she has, because she is a princess, is over the top. Like having a dress and well all the riches you can imagine. And that she realises that, because after that Erika sings that she has little.

What many people forget about that movie is that princess Anneliese wasn't the one that first said "I'm just like you" but Erika. The poor one didn't care that she's a princess, she only saw that she's ready to do her duty even though it'd break her heart, just like herself. Many think that Anneliese started that thinking, but it was Erika

This film is proof that you shouldn’t underestimate a movie. I loved it as a kid and as an adult I realize just how many things it did that even Disney wasn’t doing at the time. Mainly it had a princess who actually had to worry about the political aspect of the job, and while she did have a happy ending the fact is they didn’t try to shy away from a little realism and tried to tell the Prince and the Pauper in a way that did help educate kids watching. :) plus it had some beautiful music.
I would love to hear Anna sing “if you love me for me” it’s my favourite song from princess and pauper, and that song coupled with Anna’s Angelic voice would make my whole life.

Okay, but I want a remake where Erica is in love with the local princess and Princess Anneliese is in love with the pauper seamstress that comes to do her dress fittings from time to time so they do little escapades where the Anneliese dresses up like a village lady and once she is caught she tells her parents she wanted to show _princess_ Erica the kingdom so now she has to pretend to be a princess. There's an arranged marriage subplot but the prince finds out about it and he's like "daz ok, we get married but you two get together, I like the captain of the royal guard anyway" and the whole Preminger kidnapping still happens but he doesn't find out they switched places, he finds out they are lesbeans.

But the movie is about them changing life’s. (If that makes sense in any way)
They aren't. both of them get married to men at the end of the movie and have arcs about their relationships. in fact the two lead girls barely talk to each other in the movie.
However if you want a gay barbie movie I recommend barbie and the diamond castle or even the fairytopia series. princess and the popstar is also kinda gay but its kinda the worst barbie movie imo. In the case of diamond castle I wouldn't be shocked if the leads being gay is on purpose. it probably isn't but theres a whole scene where the 2 female best friends (who btw live in a cottage together selling flowers for a living) get taken away from the two dudes on a magical rainbow bridge.

I remember seeing that one ad for Starlight Adventure that was going around on tumblr, but the actual movie was so intent of cashing in on Star Wars that it missed all the possible paths it could have followed? I couldn’t keep watching it past a certain point, but some of the cosmology introduced in the intro is very Fallen London, and the thing with the enemy being basically entropy is cool.
I‘m pretty sure that I remember Barbie being ~in tune with the song of the stars~, or whatever, as the girly bootleg Force, so maybe there’s be songs and she’d somehow convince the stars to stop dying, or raise them from the dead, or form new ones, or convince THE UNIVERSE ITSELF to cut it out with the whole “dying” stuff?
(Also, the scene at the gala or whatever it was, where all the characters on the team were meeting eachother? It was kind of uncomfortable, and all the protagonists were being dicks to characters that weren’t on the team, but their chemistry was *excellent*, and I ship it. This is a polycule of terrible people, they’re assholes who shouldn’t be the protagonists of a kids’ film, but they’re assholes in love)

As a really little kid, I had a collection of barbie movies, including the Princess and the Pauper. This brought so much nostalgia flooding back- I remember I used to dance around the living room to this song and songs from the 12 Dancing Princesses, The Island Princess and the Swan Princess.
