Fun fact: one of the first books to depict vampires was about a lesbian vampire that prays on woman in the night. Carmilla written in (1871-72) by Sheridan Le Fanu is a tragic romance. This is a whole 25 years before the classic story of Dracula came to be.

@@ArsenFox Better is subjective, because everyone knows Dracula and outside of a handful of people, nobody really knows about Carmilla at all. But if you really wanna talk about influence, let's take a look at how Nosferatu, despite being a ripoff of Dracula, managed to change vampire lore in pop culture basically forever. That whole sunlight weakness? Vampires didn't have it until Max Schreck got face-melted by the light of dawn on the silver screen.
@@MrNickPresley I've read the book Dracula and I remember that it was either the sun or a stake through the heart that killed Dracula. The brides of Dracula were killed in their coffins while they slept by Van Helsing with a stake through the heart of each one.

Except that the lyrics of the song aren't about vampire's at all, they are about being in love with the night itself, which is personified as a woman as a poetic allegory. Literally nothing about vampires or bloodsucking in there at all. (Though Justine isn't the first to underlay that song with vampire art).

Agreed. I recall he also had his song "Cathouse Tragedy" covered by the Misbehavin' Maidens. That's the only other cover I know of though.

Please do more Voltaire. I've always wanted to hear some female covers of his work. There's not nearly enough. I'd love to hear more. I especially love his songs Feathery Wings, The Headless Waltz, Almost Human, and When You're Evil.

Everytime I hear that song, I get a music video in my head showing a half vampire girl getting married to a human guy, and then after the (arranged) marriage she runs away to meet her vampire girlfried, and they dance.
The most lesbian sounding cover i’ve ever seen (i mean that in a good way, we need more of this stuffff), loving this.
