Just a fun fact told me by my professor at University of Rome, who made an interesting research on the the Colosseum structures: Vespasianus was already more than 60 years old when the building started, and was worried not be able to see it completed.
For these reason he made this edict: if he was alive for the inauguration, then he would pay the total cost of the building from his private holdings, if he died before the inauguration, then Rome treasure would have to pay the bill.
For this reason, to achieve the highest building speed, the structure was subdivided into independent sectors and each sector was designed to be able to start the next floor when the one below was not even completed (practically, before the pouring of the concrete into the stone mold).
They managed to complete the building process in time, and Vespasianus was happy to pay the Colosseum with his own private money.

The roman era equivalent of George Harrisson paying for Life of Brian with the motivation "because I wanted to see it!"
Though, with much more actual killing. :D

    Great job it looks amazing!
I rebuilt the Colloseum a few years ago and still made some mistakes.
Setting up and rendering 80 or more statues back then was impossible with my old computer.
If someone masters the new Blender versions in connection with addons well, it is wonderful to see what is possible today.
The interior with the walkways, the statues and the audience, just awesome. Big Respect
And I think Procedural Crowds really needs some time-adapted people groups for stone age, ancient time, medieval ... ... 😅

At the ground level, between the arches, they had shops. The columns next to these arches have slots in their sides (in the opening) where they inserted wooden boards that got fixed with a wedge at top. When all the shops were closed, imagine a platoon of watchmen walked around the Colosseum.
The idea of using columns for shops of variable sizes with "flexible system walls" already existed in the basilica architecture/building form. Here they had wooden sticks at, say, 8 ft high between the outer wall and the inside column opposite that hole. Tapestry over it and you had your system wall. Between two columns was a very nice shop, but fancy ones could have (afford) more than one section. The money and jewels traders would have their tables in the centre lane. Doors on one side, closed at night, watchmen, and nobody would get inside to steal.
So the basilica form started as shopping mall.
