Yay!!! As a Brit welcomeeeeee!!! Also you’ll need to join the National Trust when you get here, it’s a relatively affordable monthly membership that you can get for ‘couples’ and you can freely visit all the wonderful sites across the country. Abbeys, manor houses, gardens etc. So your sort of thing. I hope you love living here, I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. I absolutely can’t wait to see you thrive and flourish here. Xxx

@@pumpkinpatch5I know, I've lived in UK for nearly 30 years all over and the changes are dramatic. I moved to a 'nice' part of London in 2012 but towards the end of my 11 years there it was awful and couldn't even go for a walk without a panic button, had issues with GP, parking and so much more. All my friends were leaving so I started the great hunt for a rental outside of London. Took a while and in the end had to match my London budget but love my cottage in the countryside now. This area is so much nicer, although crime in the area is going up a lot but I'm fortunate that where I live benefits from a big security team from the surrounding estate

I felt absolutely awful in London, but while in the Cotswolds, and other country areas in England and Scotland, I felt incredible. It seemed like every rest stop along the highways had local farm foods sold in them, the air quality (in the country) was great, and the water felt nourishing, especially in Scotland. I’m from Florida so our water is very hard, but in Scotland, I could wash my hair with nothing but water and it’d be silky and smooth!

My sister lives in the States, and we've both lived all over the world from Greece to Italy to the East to NZ - we agree there's no bigger culture difference than between the US and the UK. We're heading up to New England this summer because we've been looking at Vermont and New York for years now (countryside/small farms and views - slower life). Taking the first steps towards moving to a cooler climate (than VA), snow, covered bridges, mountains, and magical holidays. Cannot wait. I don’t even garden or go outside because I don’t want to get Lyme. It’s not something I’ll ever get used to. Hey Desi, I am so happy for you, I would have chosen England too! As a German I can absolutely understand what you mean. We are not always the most openly friendly people... As a tip though, if you are considering an area in Germany to visit or to move to, choose Hesse, specifically Wiesbaden. Unfortunately it isn`t the prettiest region in Germany ( it's not ugly, you have the Rhine valley and the beautiful Taunus, but there are more spectacular areas), but it is very international with Frankfurt nearby. And Wiesbaden actually has an American Army Base, so there are many Americans living and working there and people are used to it. Wiesbadener are more open towards Americans, because we lived with them for decades and everybody speaks English. Plus Wiesbaden itself is very pretty with a lot of 19th century buildings and cosy cafes. And if you should come to Wiesbaden, check out Idstein! It is nearby and I just know you'll love it. It is a small town ( known you its witch trials....) that has these very beautiful, clichee German timber buildings.
I wish you all the best with your move.

As someone living in Europe from the US, the UK is going through some really rough periods with the job market, food prices, and housing. The health system is also absolutely horrible. Please keep aware when walking around as well as crimes against women are rising. I am not saying this to scare you but you need to also have a very realistic view of what that country is like. Since the UK left the EU it has been experiencing a lot of change, many negatives but hey that's life.

As someone who was born here .. THANK YOU for bringing this up. The UK is too romantasised considering what a lot of us are going through right now. Cost of living is hurting us badly our health system is about to give in (its impossible to get a dentist appoitment also and people are resorting to removing their own teeth) there is no houses for those of us born here so alot of us have to live in tiny one bedroom flats (if your lucky) or move back in with family. Crime rate has gotten WAY worse especially in the cities but now its going to outside of the cities as more and more people are moving here and people are clashing with eachother. We cant afford gas or electricity or food shopping anymore. Wages are not keeping up with the cost of living anymore. It doesnt matter if both you and your partner work you wont be able to afford the bills. My dream was to be married and a wife by now (im 30 next month) but me and my fiance have had to give up the dream of a child due to money and also how the country is changing. We cant just up and leave our country either because we cant afford it and we have such big family here. All this to say PLEASE if you read this be more aware before coming here its not a cottagecore life style or a jane austen movie .. its full of classism and has been for generations. The town im from were hated just for our accent and for being working class and not considered "true english". It makes me sad and bitter seeing people moving here and talking about how beautiful and amazing it is and getting a house when in reality we who are born here or from here are suffering to get by and have to give so much up and put a pause on our life goals just to get by. I dont mean to sound hateful i just wish people wouldnt make out like my country is a dream place to live and all is good because honestly for a lot of less privallged people its actually hell right now.

Hello from Rhodes, Greece. I grew up in Hartford , Connecticut and I feel you. I am infatuated with England. My daughter lives in England. She loves it. You will love it.
    Good luck to you both.❤
