My mother, her Omi/grandmother was German and had told me about them, though she never got to attend one. Then, I got to live in Germany as an adult for several years and finally attended one as a journalist with Desiree’s dad. So I’m so happy that Desiree got to do the same. Another option for people who are determined to go to a ball but can’t travel to Europe is to bring the magic closer to home by putting on your own ball in your local area, it’ll take work but your local community will appreciate you creating the opportunity to attend a ball for everyone nearby who can’t travel and it’ll be a nice tradition/ legacy you’ve made to improve the community .
That is an excellent idea. We have a historical ball every year, that my historic dancing class organises. There are historic dances and historic costume involved ;) about 60 to 80 people attend every year. It is a lot of work, but also a lot of fun. If ballroom dancing isn't strong part of your culture, I also recommend a weekend ballroom dancing class, or three evenings in three consecutive weeks or something. It's a great idea for couples as well, because they need to learn to attune and listen to each other with their bodies ;-)

Waiting for surgery that could be so far off, it's such a blessing to live vicariously through the eyes of content creators like your self. I knew I was probably going to be a little emotional with this one, but I literally just quietly smile/cried the whole video. I’m so proud of you for telling your fears to take a backseat so that you can take control of your own life again. I absolutely know how that feels having chronic illness after Covid and another serious infection just prior. I told myself the same thing for this year: this year I start living again. What’s the point of just surviving? We need to live, especially us fantasy driven, leading lady, adventurous hearts, and daydreaming artists. We were never meant to be locked up… especially when we are the ones holding the keys. I’m so happy you were able to do this and I hope it inspires more people to do the same - this is the kind of thing people need. I’m always rooting for you! And Jared, too! I used to be a member of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society and there are chapters all over the USA (and Canada). I went to a weekly dance/class held at a local dance hall. You learn to dance: reels, strathspeys, jigs, hornpipes and more. There was live music: bagpipes, violen, guitar, bodrhan. Twice a year there were costume balls with men in full kilt and women in ballgowns with their tartans. SO MUCH FUN! It felt like the Scottish version of a Jane Austen ball. Highly recommend. The bar to entry is higher: as in you must learn the dances and become a member but you may have a local chapter and no need to travel abroad (Although that looks fantastic too!)

What a fun video! For 40 years I lived in a very fancy Florida town (Sarasota) that has a very active social season with many charity balls, and I have gone to many over the years. They were fancy, but not quite to the level of the one you attended. I was even the chairperson of several of them. I had 15 ballgowns that I rotated over the years and several mink stoles/wraps I wore - all gorgeous and vintage. I know just how you felt. I felt like a princess every time I went. It never got old. What a lovely video. I am so glad you got to experience the entire dreamlike experience!

Wow Desi, how wonderful was this night! You have to enjoy and make your dreams come true when you are young! I am a retired nurse, with pretty much an ordinary life in Connecticut. But.....once when I was single, I was dating a guy who was vice president of a company and was able to attend a Big Brother/Big Sister event at The Waldorf Astoria in NYC with him. I bought a gown and he wore a tux. A limo brought us, and I had the time of my life. After dinner, we went to Regine's (this was early 90's) to sip champagne and listen to the music. I have never done anything like that again in my lifetime, but I am so lucky to have this memory! You looked so beautiful! The ball was breathtaking. Thanks for taking us with you! 💗

This was so sweet to watch. 🙂 In the Czech Republic we have this custom that at the end of elementary school, when you're 15, there are dance classes where they teach you basic dances like waltz, foxtrot, jive, etc., as well as basics of etiquette and things like that. The classes are pretty popular and almost everyone takes them, girls wear beautiful dresses, boys tuxedos and white gloves, it's nice. And we love balls. During ball season there are balls in every village (obviously much less fancy than the Vienna one, lol). When I was in college me and my friends used to attend at least one ball every season. Every faculty had its own ball. I miss those times. 🙂

Hey Desi, I loved this video! It is great that you have felt so good during your trip. Maybe a reason for that is that in the European Union you cannot sell anything (e.g. additives or other ingredients of food etc.) until it has been proven that it is not problematic or harmful in any way to your body. I think in the US it is the other way around: You can sell basically anything until it has been proven to be harmful. Many people experience better gut health or just in general a better wellbeing here in Europe since food is so strongly regulated. Love your videos!

I knew I was probably going to be a little emotional with this one, but I literally just quietly smile/cried the whole video. I’m so proud of you for telling your fears to take a backseat so that you can take control of your own life again. I absolutely know how that feels having chronic illness after Covid and another serious infection just prior. I told myself the same thing for this year: this year I start living again. What’s the point of just surviving? We need to live, especially us fantasy driven, leading lady, adventurous hearts, and daydreaming artists. We were never meant to be locked up… especially when we are the ones holding the keys. I’m so happy you were able to do this and I hope it inspires more people to do the same - this is the kind of thing people need. I’m always rooting for you! And Jared, too! I used to be a member of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society and there are chapters all over the USA (and Canada).
I went to a weekly dance/class held at a local dance hall. You learn to dance: reels, strathspeys, jigs, hornpipes and more. There was live music: bagpipes, violen, guitar, bodrhan. Twice a year there were costume balls with men in full kilt and women in ballgowns with their tartans. SO MUCH FUN! It felt like the Scottish version of a Jane Austen ball. Highly recommend. The bar to entry is higher: as in you must learn the dances and become a member but you may have a local chapter and no need to travel abroad (Although that looks fantastic too!)

What a fun video! For 40 years I lived in a very fancy Florida town (Sarasota) that has a very active social season with many charity balls, and I have gone to many over the years. They were fancy, but not quite to the level of the one you attended. I was even the chairperson of several of them. I had 15 ballgowns that I rotated over the years and several mink stoles/wraps I wore - all gorgeous and vintage. I know just how you felt. I felt like a princess every time I went. It never got old. What a lovely video. I am so glad you got to experience the entire dreamlike experience!

Wow Desi, how wonderful was this night! You have to enjoy and make your dreams come true when you are young! I am a retired nurse, with pretty much an ordinary life in Connecticut. But.....once when I was single, I was dating a guy who was vice president of a company and was able to attend a Big Brother/Big Sister event at The Waldorf Astoria in NYC with him. I bought a gown and he wore a tux. A limo brought us, and I had the time of my life. After dinner, we went to Regine's (this was early 90's) to sip champagne and listen to the music. I have never done anything like that again in my lifetime, but I am so lucky to have this memory! You looked so beautiful! The ball was breathtaking. Thanks for taking us with you! 💗

This was so sweet to watch. 🙂 In the Czech Republic we have this custom that at the end of elementary school, when you're 15, there are dance classes where they teach you basic dances like waltz, foxtrot, jive, etc., as well as basics of etiquette and things like that. The classes are pretty popular and almost everyone takes them, girls wear beautiful dresses, boys tuxedos and white gloves, it's nice. And we love balls. During ball season there are balls in every village (obviously much less fancy than the Vienna one, lol). When I was in college me and my friends used to attend at least one ball every season. Every faculty had its own ball. I miss those times. 🙂

It is great that you have felt so good during your trip. Maybe a reason for that is that in the European Union you cannot sell anything (e.g. additives or other ingredients of food etc.) until it has been proven that it is not problematic or harmful in any way to your body. I think in the US it is the other way around: You can sell basically anything until it has been proven to be harmful.
Many people experience better gut health or just in general a better wellbeing here in Europe since food is so strongly regulated.
