Just wanted to add some appreciation for your product reviews. Please disregard occasional criticism that they are boring....I find them all extremely informative and providing all the comparisons and technical information that I require. Accordingly I have purchased several items on the basis of your recommendations. Excellent service especially for some of us 'technically challenged' folk.

@addyer Hey - don't be down on the scooter riders - everyone on bikes deserves some respect. I've now got a Honda NT700 instead - but I'd never look down my nose at someone who is prepared to ride any bike. The motorcycle industry is struggling at the moment, we should all try and encourage rather than discourage bike usage.
The bad thing about this type of cam is that is very hard to know if you are pointing too high or too low.
@ammoniteproductions No, theres no way to get rid of the time/date. When I crop my videos to 16:9 it automatically gets cut off the edge, if that is any consolation to you.
@9a6m I take it that you installed the drivers First and also switched it on?
Old video is old, but still useful.

@MrJustinexley OK - As expected - all files import into the iPad - but only the Photos can be displayed. The videos cannot be played - due to them being in the avi rather than mp4 format.
@FlyCrashBuild Difficult to say....have you looked in the folders on the card?

@RomeTrailers Most of the spy cameras seem to be using the same insides at the moment. If any new ones come out that seem to be an improvement on the current batch, I'll try and get one in to review.
@connell256 Have you tried pressing the reset button?

Thanks for the date set info. I used a 808 #26 on my RC sail plane RADIAN...Great Videos from these lite aerodynamic cams. Was watching Your Toaster vid Jan 19, 2022 and went back to check on your videos from 2007 that you talked about and ONLY went back to 2010. WE Both got grey hair over that time...LOL !
@turpi27 I crop it out by making my videos in 16:9 ratio - but I believe that there is no way to actually turn it off.

You cannot remove the time & date in this camera. I cropped the footage from 4:3 to 16:9 to cut it off the edge.
@Unispoof Did it run out of memory or battery - I usually charge mine for 3 hours. The light doesn't seem to reflect the charging on mine - it just stays on (I've left it 24 hrs to check).

@PillzGoezWoot Its a version 3 on the Chuck Lohr website. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a reliable way if getting a specific model.
@chrisg2k1 there is only one way up - the way I hold it in the video is the correct orientation.

@torontoraps8 Yes I think it would. But you can upload any resolution as any other resolution...UA-cam converts it to the resolution you choose.
@JJFP1 It charges through USB either via an adaptor or plugged into a PC. It takes about 3hrs to charge.
@AxBattler Yes mine works with SDHC - but there are so many versions around some might not.
Thank you very much for this video! I've been wanting to film an engineer's eye view of my model railroad to post on a hobby forum, but didn't want to spend a lot of money. Your review prompted me to get the product and I successfully uploaded a video today. The images aren't bad for the price. I especially appreciated your comments about being careful while inserting the memory card. As you mentioned, my camera's slot was a little out of alignment. Thanks for the balanced review!
@Peddersdub I assume that you are talking about the HD 808#3. Try connecting it to your laptop and then put it into webcam mode by using the method of holding both buttons shown in the video. Also have a read at my associated blog post - link in the HD808 youtube notes.
@dabruna This does not have a sound activation function. There is no way to remove or turn off the time & data.
I'm actually impressed with the video quality. Literally just ordered one for 4 quid. Then found this review :) not the best, but for the cost I'm happy
@altggg I might try one at some point - but I'll only try it when someone brings a model out with a working date indicator. I only wear watches that show the date (with the exception of my Nixie Watch).
@addyer I cropped the video into 16:9 on iMovie on my Mac. You may have noticed my latest review of a real 720p 16:9 camera like this now... It produces video a lot better than this version. By the way the bike was a Piaggio MP3 400. Apologies if I appeared a bit ratty in my response, it wasn't my intention, I just read it back and it looked a bit snappy.
@4Loki Yes, it comes apart really easily. Unscrew the two small screws and then open it from the same end, one half angles and slides onto the other. Nothing to it.
@bonapartist No - I hadn't heard of meritline until you mentioned it. I get all my stuff from Ebay from HK retailers. They come and go and the prices constantly reduce - so I don't mention the seller or price as it would be out of date by the time you saw the video.

@GaryGSF Can't really go wrong for the price - I'll post some more reviews of small cameras shortly - but I still haven't seen anything better than these two.
@MANGO1962MONKEY That sounds like what happens when I format a card in my Mac rather than my PC. Even though both machines will format as FAT only the PC's version will work with the keyring. So yes - you should reformat as FAT or FAT32 using a PC.

@derkwah I agree that it is probably stretched too. The time and date cannot be removed (you could crop them out). See Chuck Lohr's website for lots more info on the DVK808

The video files can be played on any computer (with enough power and the right codecs).

@sphudson No it won't. However I have another camera on test that will do this - video to follow in the next few days.
@yyyzzzz You are right it does have an extra wheel- it's a Piaggio MP3 400. If you are looking it up, also have a look at the Guilera Fuoco. Next year I'm hoping to upgrade to a Quadro 4D when it comes out.

@dizzydave12341 Have you had a look at the contents of your time file with a text editor program. It is quite possibly similar to the tag.txt file.
@MattakaMouse Well if you want to store anything on it, you'll need to have some memory in it.
@maha77 No. That's just me demonstrating how to take a picture. Just tap to record, tap to stop then tap again to record...etc

@DumblyBrilliant I didn't mention a price - because these things cost whatever you pay for them. I paid £9 for mine from HK but this particular retailer doesn't sell this model any more. I've seen people trying to charge £70 for these so shop around. Do a search on Ebay.
@mike649fox I haven't come across a mini camera that takes good stills yet - I'm not sure that any exist.
@connell256 Reformat the card as FAT32 in a PC. Don't try to format it in a Mac, for some reason the camera doesn't like the way OSX formats cards.

@AirsoftKarlsruhe Yes - as long as its a proper card - a class 2 will be plenty for an 808 camera

Hello I have a second question, My camera does video, however, the video plays back in pastel colors, not clear at all. I can hear the voice well, but the video is not clear and cannot make anything out? Any suggestions?

@lilbig8543 Its ok, the camera creates the folders again when it starts recording. It might be best to switch it on and off once before you start recording properly just to make sure the folders were created.
@Aphexas Your battery sounds faulty. As far as removing the time goes, the only way to do this is to crop it out when editing.

@kkuukkoo2 This isn't an HD camera. The HD808 #11 is the 720p model - I've done a review of that one too, you can find it and the Jumbo 808 review in my other videos.

@rcflight13 Yes they charge from the USB. I plug mine into an iPod USB wall plug to charge- but it will work just as well attached to a PC as long as you don't mind leaving it on for long periods of time.
@ThatIndianGuy7116 I just held it in a hand with a load of other things, wallet, keys etc. Another good way is to hold it with a cup of coffee or a newspaper.
@pumatom7 It should take TWO HOURS to charge the battery. The led charge light will never go out, perhaps after the thing sets on fire it may do, but I haven't tested this.
@Peon546 Seriously? Even if if was 100% lead it would still only be a small amount. I wouldn't recommend swallowing it though. What do you plan on doing with it?
@JmLozadaSite You mean can you record without displaying the time - I have been given a link to some instructions on how to flash the firmware in the #3 camera - It is very complicated and I have not tried it myself. UA-cam doesn't allow links in replies - so cut and paste the next line into google to find the site (include the quotes) "how to remove the timestamp on the gumpack #3"
@RomeTrailers The only way to move the date/time is by cropping it out of the edited video. I find that my 16:9 ratio videos trim it iff the edge nicely.
@rojdodge You just have one of the other versions - see my HD808 #7 review to see a bit more about the various versions - or have a look at Chucklohr's 808 website for the full info.
@Sh012222 I use iMovie on the Mac (this video was shot with iMovie09, but I'm now using iMovie11). iMovie was the main reason I got a Mac, years ago when it had the only consumer focussed HD editing package. The hardware is an old black plastic 2.2 ghz Macbook, iMovie needs lots of disc space but not too much horsepower. The disc space isn't too much of a problem with these small UA-cam clips.
I have some friends who work for a non profit store that helps people get food, clothing, household goods etc. They have a big problem with people dumping construction trash and other large unwanted things on the side of their building (last night someone dumped about 10 large windows and 10 bags of leaves, last week someone dumped a refrigerator filled with moldy food). It's costing them a small fortune to have this stuff hauled away. They need a motion activated camera that's small and can work relatively well in low light to get some faces and license plates. Do you think I should get them this one or can you think of something better?
