Do you have your image editing software set to PAL/25fps or something? When ever you show a clip from the camera it's slightly studdery, like 25fps instead of 30fps. I downloaded the original clips from your drop box and they are buttery smooth. Not sure what's going on there.

toysareforboys1 It was transcoded one too many times, during editing, uploading, reformatted into flash video by youtube, and decoded my your computer, and eventually displayed on your monitor. Lots of conversions going on!

I've been wanting to buy a couple of dash cams for me and as a gift for a friend for a couple of weeks now. I've been repeatedly going over Techmoan's camera reviews and have always skipped this particular video because of the colours of the cams on the thumbnail which sort of gave me a sense that they're more like toys. After having watched the video I immediately ordered two and I feel they are going to be great. I wish Techmoan would write something in the title that indicates how brilliant they are or at least something positive (which has been done to some other reviews), as I'm sure it would be of use to many people like me.

Great review as usual. When I compared it side by side with your review from Mobius at 19:28 on this video vs 19:18 on Mobius review (red light scene), I'd noticed that C1 is brighter than Mobius in the dark. But the flare from the red and other lamp is horrible on the C1 footage. Is that just the way it is or the lens are a bit dirty/oily?
But I think the angle of Mobius is just great, not to distorted like C1.

Mobius video quality has improved considerably since Techmoan's review of the standard lens model, thanks to regular firmware upgrades. Note that the Mobius wide angle lens model outperforms the standard lens model in low-light &, imo, is notably better than the Innovv. niko at dashcamtalk owns both Mobius & Innovv, & I believe he will soon upload a video comparison.
As usual, great video review! I noticed some resemblance to the Mobius in terms of form factor, button placement, etc. Is it from the same manufacturer?

Nice review. Nice cameras too. But is it just my imagination or do those colored versions have the lens recessed, not protruding from the case?
Another great review. The Mobius (from the same people?) is working great, I came up with a way of waterproofing (rain-proofing) it (a inner tube repair kit case, with a gap cut for the lens works).
JooVuu have developed a waterproof case for Mobius, which works down to 30m depth. Mobius & Innovv Developers are NOT the same people.
Were they once? Another comment below says they were on a single team, but then the team split.
Good review as usual Matt. Did you see my review a couple of weeks back? Quite similar really. With the latest GUI you can turn off the G sensor and auto flip, and there are some other new settings. auto day night setting etc. I had occasional crashes when scrolling through G sensor mode, I think it's better turned off unless you need it. Time lapse is actually time delay when shooting stills and not time lapse as such. I agree with the comment about 720. My quality was good but duplicated frames every two or three. I didn't notice any under exposure in my test clips? Sometimes a blueish tinge though. Rock suggested I made a how to dismantle video, I was reluctant, and after seeing your comments I'm glad I didn't!
I haven't seen your video - but I'll watch it now. The dismantled C1 was a bit of a mistake. I was sent one camera that got lost in the post for a month. In the meantime I was sent another. When I started working on the review I started shooting with one camera and dismantled the other...just for the heck of it. I then realised that the cameras had slightly different FOVs and I was shooting with the wrong one (the pre-production model). I therefore had to figure out how to reassemble the camera...which is how I know it's not something that I'd recommend anyone attempt...It never went back together perfectly, you may have spotted the sunken LED light-pipe in the video and I had to jam some paper inside to stop the battery rattling due to the now absent rubber sponges.
Techmoan Ha, My first camera didn't show either so after 3 weeks they sent me another by DHL which arrived in 5 days. The other one eventually turned up after a month! One is pre production, the blue is a production camera. Glad I didn't attempt a dismantle! Maybe when I need to for a battery change at some time. Rock did give me some details about how to reassemble, but I didn't want to risk it.
I like the slider switch, I'm in to off road driving so it would be nice to have the option to use it as a normal car cam on the road and then use it to record full clips when I get to the off road site. My only thoughts are does it still split up the clips on 'normal' mode, and will looped recording overwrite them or does it lock them and just overwrite clips recorded in that mode? Apologies if these were answered in the video and I missed them. Great review as always.
I didn't manage to try everything, there were too many permutations of recoding modes and scenarios. Ideally I'd have liked to look at the time-lapse mode and try a few other things...but I ran out of time.
thank you for this review and what a great little camera. i hope they do make a waterproof case for this as it would be ideal as a helmet camera (minus the orientation issue). i also have a great idea how you could get over the external mic issue for motor vloggers. all you have to do is disable the camera's audio and then buy a Dictaphone with an external mic. all you have to do then is take the sound recording and edit the video by placing the audio (use import music option for movie maker) and now you have both high quality video and audio what do you all think?
Good review but would have been cool to see what auto day and night anb looks like. Low normal high saturation. The part where you can see the difference between standard and wide angle lens is really interesting bc of the exposure changes. 0.5 exposure looks good but bleaches out the sky and well lit areas.
Good review as always Techmoan. I was surprised by the bright sharp video and I like the audio sensitivity too. I like how the C2 lens was sticking out because it made me think I might be able to put a narrow FOV lens on it for hunting. I really appreciate you showing it taken apart too. I wish you did that in all your reviews. I want to swap lenses in my SJ1000 but I'm afraid to take it apart, but seeing the C1 apart makes me confident I could swap lenses even if it is a bit of a pain to get it back together.
BTW, you have your where to buy links backwards.
The SJ1000 is surprisingly easy to get into...just ease off the metal front by sliding a blade between it and the plastic...got to be careful you don't snap off any of the plastic retainers though.
Techmoan Thank you very much for that. I will look into getting a narrower field of view lens for the SJ1000 and give it a shot.

Assuming that a waterproof case will be available would this be the best overall camera to permanently attach to a motorcycle? Needs to have reasonable quality day and night, operated when ignition power is applied and have loop recording.
What is the best 1080p video camera to put in a costume
What's the point of the shock to start thing? Why would anyone want to start recording when it gets a shock? I can't think of a use...

Thank you for yet another great review. You mentioned that a different type of USB cable is required for automatic power on/off if using this camera as a dash-cam, but I didn't hear mention of the name of the cable or where it might be purchased. I'd be very grateful if you'd provide this information.
Apparently it's now being included in the box....at least that's what I've been told by the manufacturer.
The image quality is just incredible for such a gadget. The center ist really pin sharp, the left corner/border is a bit blurry, maybe some decentering. But once again it is much better than what we had back in the days of VHS/MiniDV. Just amazing.
Yes, crazy when you think of the cost/quality/size when you compare it to the old full size VHS camcorders from not that long ago.

Awesome reviews those you make. I´m looking for a nice cheap camera to film my RC helis flight right from my head. I´ve tried cheap camera glasses which renders a poor video with narrow angle in which the heli sometimes comes out the view range, but on the other hand ivue glasses have a 720p quality but too wide field of view so the helicopter always remains in the video but it looks just like a tiny spot away. Is really dissapointing. Which camera in your opinion renders a descent video quality, a wide angle but not so wide and can be used on top of my head or cap? Thanks in advance.

i think what makes this good for us RC Flyers is that Orientation sensor, i have to make sure the video on my Mobius is flipped before i mount it on my Quad, having this that will automatically know when to flip the video would be cool
not great if you also fly acrobatic unless it keeps starting orientation when recording starts ;)

Another great review as usual by you, thank you very much. IMHO I think the Mobius cam is the better one. When I compare the inside vid's from both cams you make in the mall, the exposure of the mobius cam is so much better.
The videos were shot at different times of the year and the mall uses some natural lighting through large skylights, so I can't directly compare the two videos. The firmware may be tweaked on C1 yet. I'll see if I can find the Mobius camera and do some side-by-side shots, but no promises.

Is the time stamp only viewable in the 'car' folder, or can it be viewed in the 'video' folder, as well?
I'm confused by the GUI Config Util options and the mode-cycle button.
If you enable "Power on record" but also enable "Motion detect", will it then act in a parking mode? I.e. You drive to your destination and kill ignition, C1 stops recording, but enables motion detection to record when another car approaches you?

quick question for anyone.. i plan to mount this on a rear window but obviously that window is slanted, so velcro isn't the most ideal solution, since i want level mounting. Also i'd like it to be low profile, and mounted from the top down, at the top of the window. Has anyone seen a low profile adjustable mount for this camera?

Techman ... You do a good job reviewing. In your experience, have you found a waterproof camera package about the size and weight of a gopro that does a better job than a gopro I am about to spend real money on a watertight drone and would like to put the best camera I can on it. Thanx
On mine the orientation sensor does not seem to work. I am using mine as a dashcam and I have to keep it oriented with the buttons facing up, otherwise my video is flipped upside down :(
I have both Mobius action camera and Innovv c2. Personally, I love Mobius for its video quality. It is so much alive and clearer compared to Innovv c2. The only thing I like about innovv c2 is its metal casing.
Decent thingy, worth considering.
I don't rem if you mentioned it, but is there any software off the top of your head that can filter the video to correct the "fish eye" effect?
I've never used one - but they are some pieces of software out there (that I believe are pretty expensive) as well as filters for various editing packages. Search for DEFISHEYE for more links.

Hi, what about the timelapse capabilities? Did you try them out?
It takes stills in the intervals specified in the GUI app. I haven't tested this myself, but I didn't feel that there was much more I needed to know about it.

Many complaints for the Mobius is that it is too conservative in Viewing angle, the C2 especially could sort that, also low light performance. The Mobius does much better than the #16 Keychain cam, but not good.
Guaranteed you'll be asked about low light performance, since this stands to dethrone the category champ ;)
What's the chance you can do a video quality head to head between the two.

Mobius has a choice of 2 lenses ... Horizontal Field of View (HFOV) = 85deg (standard) & 116deg (wide angle), which is wider than the C2. Not only that, but you can alter the angle of view for each Mobius lens 3 ways via selection within firmware. The Wide Angle lens, for instance can vary from 116deg (1080p/30) to 63deg (720p/60). Note that 720p/60 does actually work on the Mobius, & that overall video quality has improved considerably since Techmoan's review, thanks to regular firmware upgrades.
Mobius wide angle lens low-light performance beats the standard lens &, in a video comparison it matched a DOD LS300W, which is an excellent $140 DashCam. Mobius beat it for daytime video quality. I don't expect Innovv video quality to match / exceed Mobius quality anytime soon, if ever.
russ331 The cropped image of Mobius is not usable. Both cameras are weak in low light but I hope starting with 1.17 fw version of Mobius and the Auto Bright Night feature of Innovv to have better images in low light.
This cam looks awesome but the only thing that is holding me back from buying it is that they are not making a waterproof case. but other than that it looks like its a awesome HD cam. Thanks Techmoan!

Hi Techmoan, don't know if you'll get the opportunity to answer this but - for someone who isn't looking for a car or action cam - I just want a plain camcorder, I'll be using a tripod to make up for the lack of image stabilisation, how does the C1 compare to the Mobius 1080p?

In the printworks picture comparison between the C1 and the C2, i think the C2 looks noticeably sharper at the edges, is this the case Matt?
It's possibly a side effect of the frame grab, hand shake, or exposure differences....but the C2 is either just as good as the C1, but may be slightly better.
Techmoan The image from C2 is better, maybe because of better quality lens of C2, but darker image ruins this advantage. I think Innovv needs to offer 2 fw or settings for C1 different for C2 just because of lens.

Could I ask a favour? I've been looking for a cam with an exact spec for the last 3 yrs and this could be the one.
I want connect it to the car battery and use motion detect 24 hours a day, so I can point the camera in a direction when I'm parked so that 'possibly' it may one day film something that I need - someone denting my car in a car park, or a theft perhaps, who-knows.
I've already asked the manufacturer for this, they acknowledged, but it's been a while now with no reply and not sure they understand what I need.
My question is:
How many amps does this unit consume whilst recording? Is it 500ma, 200ma, 1amp, etc. Would you be able to connect it up via a multimeter and check this? When you have time of course.

I expect for 1080p are needed max. 750mAh, but 500mAh should be OK..
HD2You Hi, I actually had a reply from the manufacturer - "The power supply is is 3.5~5V, 380~420mA in 1080p recording".
So this should be fine, but just in case I'm going to purchase a "Mobitronic Automatic Low Voltage Protector M-50U-12" to cut the power to the Innovv just in case it runs the car battery too low.

Good review. I bought one and it "failed" after one month -or, so I thought. Would not respond to power. I tore it down to expose the board, wiring, components, but didn't find any breaks after probing. Turns out I looked everywhere but the non-standard USB connector: its contacts had shorted, having gotten criss-crossed onto each other. They are made of pliable wire, and not secured to the plug tongue very well (or, perhaps, at all). Cheaply made and not to USB spec. A magnifier was necessary for me to see that.
The contact wires were irredeemable, so I replaced the cable. I am grateful it was not a more complex issue, and that the unit continues to function. I use two of them, when driving and cycling, pointed forward and rear. For the car, they're tucked into the passenger-side visor; on the bicycle, I've added velcro to the seat's underside, and have a high-mAh battery ticked into the under-seat tool bag. Basic sousveillance for not much silver.

I was hoping they would improve upon the #26. The field of view of the 26 with the video quality of the Mobius would be great. Why haven't they done it yet?
Most of the dashcams user are asking for wide angles. In all dashcams the wide angle is presented as a great feature. I consider it not. Unfortunately average users which are asking for wide lens dont know they will have distorted images on the sides and losing details because the central objects are smaller.
HD2You I agree. I'm not a fan of the super wide-angles either.

question: which version has the preproduction waterproof case, throughout the whole video i was saying to myself damn no water proof case. since there is a possibility one may come out i am interested.
The pre-production waterproof case I saw was for the C1.

Looks like a macro USB, same as a non iphone phone would use?? Does it fit a smart phone lead? HTC/Samsung/Sony.. only the "special" Iphone doesn't use macro USB
If it is, this is a definite advantage over the Mobius, I have shed loads of macro USB leads only have 2 mirco USB leads, both from cameras ( 808#16 and Mobius) Every smart phone I've had for last 4 years has macro USB.
You can get an adaptor for your ciggie lighter for pence.
Both the above cameras are used for FPV, both chosen thanks to the excellent Technomoan advice.
Unfortunately there are quite a few different small USB designs. This one doesn't use the common Micro USB that's now on most phones and compact cameras....it uses a non-standard variant that you won't find in any stores.
