- Lotus Pro sells $40 two key keypads for the game osu and is the shadiest company the osu community has ever seen and will ever see. Run by Christian Rose (I am not doxxing him, this is public information on opencorporates and from himself in his Discord announcements) who had ran a previous company called Summitcables that was later renamed to Rosecables.
From problems ranging from horrible customer service, never sending products on time and not paying his workers, this is the worst small business ever.

After having an exchange with The PooN, turns out that he was using an engineering sample and the reason for his keypad dying on 52:30 was a faulty cable.
Though it's worth mentioning that tokaku had this thing happen on her prototype as well, and she was told the same thing, so she tried 3 different cables and met the same result, and she was told it was some other issue with windows/ports/port drivers or something like that.
Besides, the other clips that were used here were on the final product and NOT prototypes.
mrekk also said during that stream where he was using the keypad that it was probably due to the cable, tho he did throw it off camera later to keep using his keyboard and didnt use it after that
Also, on a side note, QMK requires you to open source the firmware setup. All Lotus keypads just have pre-made firmwares, not the OG configs, which is against QMK. And even if they have 14 KHz chord polling or w/e, QMK has numerous issues with ordering errors in default config, and there are very hard to find fixes that I have found from various blogs on other QMK boards. All of them added up, there is still a 3ms ordering error with the fixes. No matter what, QMK just will never be ideal for osu. ESP when HyperX board exists w/o ordering errors for $40-80, and the K65 RGB Mini is the cheapest 8 KHz board for $109. I canceled my Lotus order after learning from a friend who was close with the man himself.
@@feltmods I believe the source code for the lotus keypads are public (though not linked on their store, not sure if this violates the licenses)
Also I think 3ms ordering error wouldn't matter too heavily for something like osu standard? Though for osu mania, it does slightly unless the key count is really high (like 7k) but in general player error plays a much bigger part in losing out on accuracy compared to hardware. It would matter for a milisecond based game like etterna. Though yeah you probably will get something with less messy firmware from a gaming keyboard.
But speaking of hyperx boards, I wouldn't recommend their alloy fps keyboard. People are reporting 125hz results from that one, their marketing team is denying that it IS 1000hz but the results say otherwise on osu and etterna
@@tokaku Yes, the Alloy Origins Core is the meme board everyone recommends. I recommend that one when it's on sale, aside from that, there is no reason to not just get a K65 RGB Mini if you just want a board for osu (ie just want good board / impossible to blame board) type. The only cons being it's 60% (if you hated it) and soldered board (but really easy to disassembly and mod). As for the firmware, it's only linked in their discord, and the last time I looked, it wasn't pinned or anything, you had to search and read about people asking for the firmware and seeing if someone replied with the firmware, and it went to a github link, with pre-configured firmwares, with differing debounces, labeled 1 through 5, no actual source code.
@@feltmods I flashed my QMK keyboard (GMMK Pro) to 1000Hz and 14 keys per scan. It works really well, no error occured.
(And I did it by adding some commands into the config.h file of the source keymap folder and compile it)

I worked at Square-Enix HQ and I can tell you for certain that the only two English-speaking teams have nobody quite as insane as Chris. You also can't come in without a college degree at least, it's part of the requirements to get the Japanese CoE in this field. So yeah, no lol, weird LARPing dude. It's also a shit place to work, I regret it and left after half a year or so. Doubt he even got as far as an interview, nearly all the foreigners got in through connections and all of them have a past in the industry.
If he ever comes back to that claim, I can verify through my contacts still at the company. They'd go like "who?", I bet.
In case anyone wondering - CoE is a certificate of eligibility, document from Japanese immigration service that allows you to apply for working visa. And yeah, in most cases you need degree and employer who wants to hire you in order to get one.
Forgive me for prying into your personal life, but what was bad about working at Enix? I've heard it's a bad place to work but never gotten to ask why to a former employee.
My experience with LotusPro: Arrived 3 months late, only after reminding them of my order. On arrival, the provided keycaps continuously fell off the switches. Had to use my own keycaps in lieu of this. Had some minor disconnect errors, but ok switched USB-C cables and for a while they rarely occurred. Now I constantly experience disconnects which make the keypad completely unusable.
This is just baffling
Imagine paying $50 for two keys just for them to fall off while playing LOL.

Mine was 6 months late and i use my own keycaps aswell bc the same problem, at least it’s not a bad product talking about latency and switches quality

I'll never understand people thay would buy specific products like this premade. I only buy kits for my hobbies. If I didn't make it, I certainly don't trust someone else to.
As the creator of GMK Delta, (Emil is my preferred name) I am very glad that I dodged a bullet back in the day in collaborating with SummitCables.
I was very close to sealing a deal, but I was persuaded to not work with Chris. I am still watching the video, but I hope some legal action can be done against this person.

For some reason the thing that pissed me off the most was "anyone can call themselves an engineer." As someone currently in school for that NO YOU CAN'T. You must attend an Abet accredited school for a bachelors, then take a novice test, then gain 5 years of experience or a PHD at another abet accredited program, and finally take a professionalism exam. For perspective both of those exams have failure rates near the BAR exam lawyers take. If you fail to do this you can't publicly represent yourself as an engineer for commercial works or you are liable to be sued or fined. As far as "who cares", well specifically the National Society of Professional Engineers who regulates this stuff. Non-specifically that title comes with a lot implicit trust. That's whys it is so regulated, cause when an engineer tells you something, to most people, that is even more convincing then it coming from a doctor or lawyer.
God stealing those kinds of credentials to scam someone only to then say It DoEsN't ReAlLy MaTtEr is infuriating. Especially since the reason he flaunts those fake credentials is cause he knows the power they have.
Wow, this is insane. I first found out about lotus through a streamer I watch, Lotus was sponsoring them. Chris was in chat talking, weirdly switching between alt accounts whilst talking about their product, bragging that "all top speed players use it" and "out of our 1000 products shipped, not one complained of issues". Sounded promising. But a red flag for me was when he said "double tapping and miss-inputs are literally impossible". I'm no keyboard expert, but I've never heard any big name company claim this, presumably because this is impossible to promise. AFAIK, all keyboards, regardless of the manufacturer, are prone to these issues. It's just a matter of luck that it doesn't happen to you.
Anyways, after watching this, I'm glad I trusted my gut and didn't purchase anything from them. Thanks for putting this together, great video!!
EDIT: I feel like it's important to say: Please don't hate on anyone that sponsored Lotus. Instead, inform them of this video and perhaps discourage them from further affiliating themselves with Lotus any longer.
I just want to clarify something about the trophies at 46:07 as well as contribute my personal experience to the discussion. I think you got the osu!ro summer tournament confused with the osu Oregon 2v2, which two of those trophies were for. Both me and the other winner received the trophy and the keypad. I remember Chris apologizing for how late it was being shipped out which I personally never realized or had a problem with since I was getting it for free. The keypad actually came earlier than expected. He showed no red flags in the brief time that I talked to him, he maybe came off as a little awkward but he was generally very polite and he even sent me a free replacement for my grips with the newer model he had just received. I've had my keypad for over half a year and I've never experienced a single technical problem and I believe it has helped me improve at the game.
I remember hearing at the beginning of the tourney that there might not end up being a prize due to "some drama involving the owner of the company" But I didn't realize that it was like this. I cannot believe what I've learned from this video and I never would have guessed that this was the kind person who was running this company. It makes me feel like I was somehow catered to more than others so that I would vouch for this company. I was more than willing to buy another one of these keypads in case my free one was ever to break. I cannot believe I willingly sent this person my fucking address.
I might have just gotten extremely lucky, but part of me thinks that this might have been deliberately set up in this way. Maybe I'm remembering it wrong, since it isn't there anymore, but I think at one point there were testimonials from top players on the website about how useful the keypad has been for them. I can't help but think he knew he was giving all of the good ones to the people with larger voices. I'm not even that good and I'm not remotely close to a top player, but maybe winning a tourney was enough to put me on that list. I would have been more than willing to allow them to put a testimonial for me on the website if they asked for it.
This video has made me realize that I was manipulated. I was hidden from everything that was happening, and given a personalized experience that would make me doubt the accusations coming from others. I watched this initially when it first came out (probably should have commented this then) and I still feel torn about whether or not I should continue to use this keypad. It is objectively the best tapping device I have. I believe it has made me improve faster and achieve greater heights than I otherwise would have achieved so far if I was using my old setup. It's form is more comfortable and the switches are better for osu than either keyboard I own, but if someone were to ask me whether or not they should buy one for themselves, I would tell them no, because I believe that it is wrong to support someone like Chris who does this to people. But even if I didn't pay for any of it, I'm still supporting this company by simply using their product. I don't want to be a gatekeeper or a hypocrite. I feel like I could be potentially scamming people just by using this keypad when I play. Maybe I'm just having an unnecessary moral quandary about this, but this video has destroyed my subjective reality of this person and this company as a whole.
I believe you not supporting others to use this product is enough, even if I do not play osu much and am more of a casual player I think that you should use what equipment helps you best and you didn't give any money to them neither are you supporting them. Use what makes you better, but you do not need to support them or buy a new one if it breaks.

Wow. I feel so stupid for being so clueless for a long time. Sure, I thought it was kind of suspicious how orders weren't going out but I thought I would still get my keypad later. I ordered it 1st September, and just today asked for a refund due to all the things you taught me about Chris and his nature. He's a pathological liar. Ordered mine in July, got it in December, the wait times are long because of supply chain shortages, if everyone would quit complaining about global supply chain issues and just be patient it would be dope

Thank you so much for making this video! I actually did some investigations myself and planned to work on a video like this, but I guess I don't need to now. Yet despite this video being 1:30h long, there is also a lot more, its actually ridiculous how shady that guy is.
On a sidenote, the complain shown in the video is actually my second long one, following up to one I made 1-2 months earlier to which after angelside dmed me. We had LONG chats (like going for hours at a time). At the beginning I actually thought he was a nice guy, but just kinda clumsy with almost reasonable excuses. At some point it just wasn't believable anymore tho and turned strange really quickly. I also got a lot of dms from people seeing my rant (one of them who sent me this video) and they shared my concerns and kept me up to date with their orders.

Honestly I love these types of videos and I really think this one was well put together. I actually really considered getting a lotus product after watching tokaku’s video on it but decided against it when I had to get other things, I’m really glad I did.
I was v close to buy the keypad... glad I didn't... I knew something was off when I DM'd Chris for a custom colour and he asked to pay him through zelle. He would also constantly change the subject and gave vague answers to my questions. I also connected with someone from the discord who also wanted a custom colour, Chris ended up changing the subject on her which was when it got weird.... Chris ended up trying to call her on discord and asking her to hangout. I don't know what his problem is, but that is not how you handle your customers....

years ago when I was first getting into osu, I was getting into it with a group of friends who I knew from minecraft. One of the friends is the current #26 ctb player rostld (Jimmy Rustler at the time). I remember some months after we were going with the game that he was getting really good at ctb already, and while I won't be able to find any of the logs of these conversations, I remember him specifically complaining about someone named Storm- on the basis that he kept targetting his scores if he ever took one of his first place scores. I also remember him talking about how Storm would aggressively brag about being a higher country rank than my friend.
It is absolutely earth shattering to me to hear how this thorn in my friends side from almost 7 years ago is not only still at it, but gone completely to the next level and running full fledged scam operations in the keyboard industry. I spent 80 minutes just watching in interest to get blasted with the information that I had already known about this dude, albeit not very personally. Honestly knowing this kind of background makes me even less surprised at this whole situation.

Holy shit i had absolutely no idea how deep this rabbithole went. I found out about lotus through xooty's streams and I heard people hyping up the "almost done" first ever made for osu tablet in there that was going to blow every other tablet in the competition out of the water and I even remember joining the lotus discord (as at the time i thought it was a legitemate claim) briefly to ask about when it would be done, only to see that literally no one had anything concrete to say about it at all. Now it all makes sense.

Oh, so he's using PayPal? Several people could take all this evidence and report that to PayPal. That will get his account suspended and the money in that frozen until the guy can prove it's legitimate. For starters, a business not using a business account in PayPal is against their ToS.
i remember talking with him once because i was being a bit sad and it seemed like he was trying to cheer me up, he called me and oh boy, here's a list of what he did and say (take some of these with a grain of salt, it has been more than half a year)
- him bragging that he's made a million dollars with a former company
- his parents being ill and then leaving him and taking everything that he had after him paying for their hospital fees etc.
- being pretty transphobic, sending in some racist and transphobic memes in my old discord
- said something like "I feel like a god when I sacrifice the weak" and posting some gory anime pictures
- being very intrusive and asking me about my interests (love interests) despite me not knowing him at all
- acting pretty high and mighty iirc
- having a private discord server with his "close friends" (he did invite me into there) and i remember a top player there being homophobic and what not
thats all i was able to remember, i did also have that doc about rora for a while and tried to tell some people i know to stay away from them because all i saw there was pretty fishy

As a newer friend with chris who mostly knew him from osu and stuff, I had no clue about any of this letalone he was the owner of this company, thank you for making this video, I feel like it will help many people
My experience with lotus: ordered a few cables back when he was still running rosecables. Spent somewhere around a year making the most absurd excuses to delay sending anyone their cables. He gave the business to a friend to do the order while he was taking "personal time" which was just another excuse to not do anything but sound like he is. I had a pm conversation with the guy who took over the company and he speaks exactly like chris. Even spent half the conversation bragging about him and about how rich and powerful chris is.
Now eventually, people were getting so sick of waiting and doing mass chargebacks that he blew up his discord server, the only way we had to communicate. He claimed it was a random attack that someone phished his employees and took over his discord and made a new server. Anyone who wasn't paying attention on that day would never have found the new server.
At this point, his story was that covid destroyed his business, the guy who cerakoted(colored over the metal) the detachable aviator part of the cable went out of business and he couldn't find anyone else to paint his detachable connectors so he bought his own cerakote machine and couldn't figure it out and started to refund people.
Now, what's funny here is that he did an gmk olivia themed cable groupbuy and hasn't even delivered on that. Then he makes a good friday sale knowing he won't deliver on it because he's already not delivering on his past orders and thinks he can 200iq galaxy brain manipulate us into getting scammed by making excuses until it's too late to be able to do a chargeback.
While all this is going on, he takes the money he stole from us and invests it into funding a new startup, lotusmech. All while this is going on he's posting pictures of $10,000+ acrylic cutting machines that he bought several of.
I've talked to him over pm on discord a few times and tried to understand what goes on in his head. Most of the conversation is just him bragging about random shit then trying to insult me. He even wrote a whole google doc and tried to spread it everywhere "exposing" me and others for being in an obsessed cyberbullying hate group. Guy is disturbing, but at the very least entertaining.
Edit: he also was convinced that someone in the "hate group" was some CIA agent there to stir chaos for no reason with no evidence.
Also the "hate group" discord was just for people to still be able to talk after chris turned chat off on his discord. A lot of his screenshots were purposely out of context to change the narrative to try to make us look worse. Of course we shit on him and vented our frustrations without censoring a bit, we had been getting dicked around for a year.

Him comparing the keypad delays to cyberpunk is quite funny, because cyberpunk on release had a lot of glitches and bugs (same way as when people actually got the keypad, it had issues)

Btw I also ordered a keyboard that they put up for sale and told me to put down a deposit to hold it for me. They wanted me to pay by cash app and I was kinda skeptical but really wanted the keyboard lol.
Ended up paying $250 for it, waiting since November and 30 days ago they made what could be another fake tracking number cus there is no movement on it til this day. Been pretty patient with the kb and also the keypad but the keypad is mid at best.

Edit: 1:09:30 IIRC, we can increase the scan rate with QMK, but the problem is the USB limited the polling rate. I've read this before in a QMK Discord server. I will ask my friend (a QMK nerd) to know more about this.

1) reduce latency by around 5ms (use eager debounce)
2) increase *internal scan rate* up to probably 20k-50k if its only two buttons
3) can't send more than 1000hz via USB due to the microcontrollers supported

@ 51:11 Just wanted to confirm your point, PCB trace length to key switches will have absolutely no performance effect at the frequencies a keyboard scans keys. PCB trace lengths really only start to matter past 1Mhz, and even then, you can get away with poor layouts / poor connections up till around 20Mhz
I’ve never played osu! and I was so invested for this video. The fact that there’s so much evidence on someone is amazing. It actually kind of sucks too because I know someone like this in real life, albeit on a much smaller scale. He would constantly be late for group projects and claim that we were harming him for not letting him add to the project even though he didn’t communicate with the rest of us and that he was incredibly busy with his own classes and whatever. This year, he was put in the same group as me again and he claimed that he changed, but this was proven wrong immediately when he only sent in his recording (this was for a choir class) three days after everyone else and after the final draft was edited. At this point, he had the audacity to ask for the number of the person editing the video even though there had been a group chat since the beginning of the year and we had all introduced ourselves. We didn’t give him the number to avoid wasting her time, but my only regret is that I didn’t tell my group about his prior history because I wanted to believe that he did indeed change. You can’t trust people who say they’ve changed unless they can give solid evidence backing it up.

unfortunately only made it to about the 20 min mark and hoping to continue watching in future, but here's what I have to say so far:
I, honestly see quite a lot of myself in Chris, most of it is stuff I'm over, some of it I'm still working on, but the biggest thing I don't understand is why tff is this dude out here trying to run companies and manage them like this. If I had started a company in the past, this probably is how it would have ended up because yeah, I was a pathological liar. I was also self aware enough to _not_ start a company, because I knew I didn't have the proactive mindset (which chris clearly doesn't either) to get stuff done, and I'd definitely end up making excuses and lying instead of facing the actual problems.
that's basically my main issue with chris (other than the fact he kinda seems like an asshole), it's the lack of self awareness. I'm not abt to hate someone for being a patholigcal liar, I'm still working on getting out of that so it'd be a bit hypocritical, but my god. he just charges headstrong amd as soon as something goes wrong he just goes "I'll just lie so this problem is solved in the short term, let you future me deal with the consequences" and then lies so much all he's ever doing is dealing with consequences

I purchased a lotus pro in June 2021 and received it in November 2021. One of the switches had bent pins and the keycaps constantly fell off.
Can confirm that wait times are ass. I ordered a 2k on August 1st 2021 and had to wait until December 9th and I assume that the wait will only get worst. If I recall correctly I think they said I should have gotten it in September, only a month later, that being said I do like some aspects the keypad but after hearing about the backstory of the owner and the company I wish I would have skipped out of ordering it.

I had bought one a couple of months ago, and then immediately refunded as I realized that the keypads are bad. It took them 2 weeks of me pestering them to get a refund REQUEST submitted. I had to wait like 3 days for the refund to actually go through.

Maybe a year ago I had placed an order for a lotus pro. There was never any feedback afterward and I would get a ship date and then nothing would ship. Then I would get a new one, etc. I ended up contacting him for a refund and I never got a response, so I took it up with paypal in which they contacted him. I then got THE MOST RUDE response I have ever gotten where he basically said "Take your money back and F off" and eventually I got my money back and just never looked their way again. Absolute Garbage of a man.

I am a huge fan of Shige and well I first saw a model of the Lotus from his play on youtube I really liked the style of it and well I guesssssssss~ the fact that Shige was using made me want to try it out. My light interaction with the company: i knew about the company from Twitter. It was on shige’s twitter to be exact (in summary Chris sent a keypad to him and) and i was pretty curious cus I genuinely wanted one, so the first thing i did was join their discord. The first thing i saw that caught my eye was i kid u not the “pics of keypads” and the “support” channel. They were the most polar opposite thing I’ve ever seen coming from the same discord. This was a red flag I didn’t notice mb cus the image trust i put in them. Basically after that i so inches away from buying it but instead actually regained my rationality and actually did some research. It was hard to find anything on yt then, apart from affiliates’s gameplay. It was then i realized that i didnt need it yet so i waited. (Before that i kinda lost some faith in Chris due to him being the weirdest owner I’ve ever seen, so he was basically pinging @everyone on the lotus pro discord for the weirdest messages. Ex; the parent one and just being unprofessional in general) The other weird thing was that he posted like multiple short update clips that literally most of the time had nothing to do with the keypads (ex; his 3D printer and said he built one? + some pics of screws?) and when it did it was just showing it off. Last thing was the tablet thing he was planning to make, apparently it was going to be limited to like 50 units per year of sth (i cant remember what he said). IN SUMMARY basically the whole discord was prob the weirdest company discord I’m in where it feels like the whole thing is full of cover ups and censorships, until i saw this vid.. yep going to get the sim pad now (the original one not the resold one)

Very nice video explaining everything about RoseCables and LotusMech. I was actually very good friends with Chris when he was running RoseCables but wasn't aware he did this stuff, I found out shortly after but he kept denying doing any of the stuff and being the friend I was, I ignored it as well but eventually I did start believing the stuff he did to people and started to expose him. I was also one of the only people who got a prototype of the keypad which he had promised to send me for free but never did so I bought it instead. Thanks for bringing some light to this!

I actually was interested on the keyboard but a lot of stuff pulled me off like the price was quite high for something that isn't a complete keyboard or the us only (it might be because when you do an international buy you tent to get the benefit of the doubt) and a week or so after I saw tokaku community post which shower me I choosed the gold option of not buying it
order numbers not matching the actual number of orders and "place in line" for orders are fairly normal on account of issues in the ordering process, canceled orders and other factors, this being said along side the other issues found/pointed out are far more damning.
