    im scared for the future of the game, I really like the FA's and all, but we all know very popular artist/songs will never be featured and most of the FA's will be mostly rhythm game artists (MIDI, DnB, Electronic, as such), vocaloids, jpop and prabably some metal, leaving behind pop/kpop, rock and some other popular genres (as expected by its popularity)
    Also, thanks for the informative video, very entertaining and well edited :3

    Copyright is interpreted differently by people of different cultural backgrounds.
    In the case of Japan, Fair use doesn’t exist there, so many folks there treat certain game websites on the same level as music pirating platforms.

      @@gyroninjamodder While true, there is a reason why osu! hasn't been scorched to the abyss and that is because compared to actual illegal music distribution sites and torrents, osu! is literally an oxygen molecule in a drop of water in the metaphorical ocean that is pirating music. The music industry doesn't give a shit about some tiny niche rhythm game. They care about large distribution sites and torrents that allow for mass illegal downloads of their music.

    This topic needs to be talked about so much more, about how osu! is a game that's unfortunately built off of stolen music. Equally is how the osu! dev team has been trying to push osu! away from this past which is amazing (take a look at the osu! world cup tiebreaker video for an example).

    Part of it is that the community deserved it, for years they said that they don't want their music in the game or reuploaded on YT and yet the community just didn't care. One redemption arc would be to get a_hisa as a featured artist but it will never happen, and definitely sent a message to hundreds of thousands of people to stay far away from their songs.

    I'm not really worried about the future of Osu! personally, as a lot of artists (me included) want to get their songs on the game, it's just that the process itself is confusing and takes many months.
    But yeah, if an artist has opposed to the use of their songs in a game for many years, don't try your luck. It's their creation, and ultimately, they decide whether you can or cannot use it the way you intend, so it's always good to reach out beforehand ^^

    I've recently seen a lot of underground or even barely known artists in the osu community being featured. And like, not really complaining about that, more power to peppy for adding them, but a lot of the more recent ones I've never even heard once and I've played the game for almost 7 years now. I could give some specific examples but since the a_hisa situation I've noticed this trend of including featured artists that aren't that well known get included. Might be that I literally do not actively search out songs and that thing is my fault

      Almost every other legit (meaning using licensed music) rhythm game charges the player for a set of tracks whether it be an initial base game purchase or with numerous paid DLCs. In comparison to osu!, since it's f2p, the only source of fund that the game can use to license music from featured artists would be from supporters. This means you either take a chunk from that money to license a few well known artists, or a whole lot of lesser known artists (and I presume it would be easy for them to agree as having music in the game is free promotion as well).

    • @lonelyweeb03
      @lonelyweeb03 6 місяців тому

      Yeah I kinda agree, although big profile tourneys also bring the game a lot of attention and money too. It's a good point you made about the artists but the recruitment of smaller artists really caught my attention the past few weeks. The only issue with it is that it's up to the players if they wanna use music from the featured artist section or not. In mania at least I barely see maps with the featured artist tag. Meanwhile in std I see it much more frequently. Which further proves my statement. Idk might be wrong, feel free to correct me if I am

    a_hisa and Osu! case has been documented for quite long time and most of the case the artist are willing to get their song in a game or whatever project as long they ask the artist first and if they get allowed to do so but sadly in osu!, most of these mapper that got their song ranked and get copystrikes often make the same mistakes that should had been avoidable before they start mapping which is just ask the artist first before start mapping but sadly most of them often skip that one key rule plus make it worse that some of the map here took months or more than a year to finish and got ranked or loved. witnessed the community decide to taking either the artist side or the channel side are one of the most idiotic thing I've seen instead of focus on try to solve real issue how to prevent copyright strike on osu! sadly many often don't listen and make a fuss about copyrighted song so much on social media especialy on Twitter to the point it make a good fuel for those who have deep grudge with the game and took advantage the copystrike law and you can see the consequence with the Sakura No Uta song incident as one of the damage these people can deal.
    ffs man is it that hard to ask the artist to map what song you want first before mapping it? no the reverse way which has been documented ending it a very headache case peppy have to deal with for more than 10 year.

    Watching the whole situation gave me an outlook that while probably biased, is still not the worst I could have.
    I am fine with a_hisa copyright striking videos, however I am not fine with his handling of it either. He could have handled it better and while people would bitch and moan, most would be like "thats fair enough" unfortunately he chose scorched earth because of pre-existing bias and it blew up. He is not entirely at fault for it getting like this, but he played his parts in it. Cause of it, the goodwill we have with artists is still skewed to this day. Not the worst its been but it was alot better before September. Also doesn't help that the drama helped alienate osu! more from the rhythm game scene as a whole more now (speaking from personal experience.)
    All in all its been around 5 to 6 months, we have all moved on and its whatever. I stopped listening to/playing the beatmaps of a_hisa cause of how I saw him handle it, specific users I dislike heavily now cause of them being sharks *cough* JAKADS *cough* and over all I don't pay attention to specific social media circles for osu anymore since they are le toxic.
    The video was well made and mostly non-bias so it was nice to see. Keep up the good work

      I hope osu! ends up like Limewire or Kazaa some day. Waiting for a record company to take them to court. What shut limewire down was: "copyright infringement, engaged in unfair competition, and induced others to commit copyright infringement" Tell me osu! isn't doing the same thing lmao

    • @chocomitony
      @chocomitony 6 місяців тому

      @@Ulve124 do you open the osu! rhythm game to listen to music while you do something else? its not even comparable to limewire, a program practically made for piracy. a program that saw no major use other than music piracy, to listen to music for free
      Nowadays, it's so easy to listen to music legally and for free, that things like osu! will never impact the market again cos no one is using a rhythm game to send mp3s to each other.
      the only possible argument is that peppy makes money from osu supporter, but i dont think it adds any real benefits outside from cosmetic use and *maybe* the specific mod leaderboard and country leaderboard.
      I also feel like most songs on osu! come from smaller artists who actually only benefit from their music being used in a rhythm game. like someone in the comments says, there are over 400 featured artists (a number thats growing rapidly) and, when i open the recent beatmap tab, i cant see anything but featured artists.

      @@Ulve124 I mean, I HIGHLY doubt any more than 5 people in the entire world are using Osu! as a way to illegally get music. Pretty sure the people illegally downloading music are using torrents for high quality distributions like they have been for over 2 decades now. I am also pretty sure music artists and the music industry lawyers are more worried about large scale illegal distribution of their music rather than a niche rhythm game played by a relatively small handful of people compared to other games and especially compared to illegal music distribution sites as I mentioned.

    For anyone that doesn't know, the copyright laws in Japan are very different from copyright laws in countries like the US. In Japan, if the copyright holder asks for something to be removed, you legally have to comply. There is no concept of fair use. The musical artist kinda had every right to do this on a legal basis and seeing how they ultimately worked together to find a solution suggests this wasn't with much malicious intent.

    a_hisa should follow suit with all the other major corporations like UMG and Sony and just claim videos that deliberately play the song, that way they would earn money for the intellectual property. ive uploaded a few videos and have gotten them claimed by other parties because they are the owners of the property at the end of the day and theres no reason to fight it because its overlayed onto gameplay in a sense. striking down channels or in this case letting youtube strike channels down because you have enforced a basis to strike on command is not healthy for the artist or the community, it in fact reduces how many people from the osu community go and see an artist. i would rather go listen to an artist like Undead Corporation who just claims their music then a_hisa who lets channels be striked down for using their music.
    its a wrong move from a_hisa. if it was a game where people earned money for making beatmaps or sold access to them with copyrighted material that would make sense but its freeware, their bottom line is not hurt at all by osu existing and mappers using copyrighted music. it barely makes a scratch to their reputation or potential watch time.

      what if a_hisa want none of that. Why must he care about the osu! community or publicity lol, people are allowed to not care about things.

      "it barely makes a scratch to their reputation or potential watch time." the irony is that this actually does the opposite lmao. in fact, osu popularize many small artist while doesn't take any resourses for this, as people say "free publicity". But when such artist trying to do such bans and copyright strikes, it only makes things worse for themselves first and foremost. Yeah, they have right to do such things, but no one says that the reputational losses will be worth it, especially when community around artist is already niche and small. However your idea with following major corps suit with just claiming videos and earn money for IP and not banning them is really great. Your generated "free publicity" gives you free money and income in the form of new fans, while at the same time you not recieve any hate or rep loss for doing very controversial things in community

      well i already replied on top comments(based on likes maybe) that the fact that i never heard a_hisa despite already plays Osu! or any rythm game and youtube never recomends a_hisa music speaks how obsecure,small and unimportant his/her music is and its fan base. well maybe this drama adds new peoples to see their works,but this drama also possibly spawns haters rather than fans(possibly more toxic than that too)

    • @Jolerty727
      @Jolerty727 6 місяців тому

      @@shiro3146 true but the point is that the drama is mainly known to the already existing community, so it's very unlikely that it attract new people from outside rather than spawn new haters in an already established community of a_hisa

    IMAGINE OSU GETS DELETED ONE DAY BECAUSE OF TOO MUCH DRAMA, AND THEN YOU CAN SELL A PC FOR 10K PLUS IF YOU HAVE OSU INSTALLED WITH AN EXTRA AMOUNT DEPENDING ON HOW MANY BEATMAPS ARE INSTALLED

    It's not moral to take someone's channel down?
    You know what else is not moral? Playing a game that profits off of other people's work.
