    Awesome video. The vet diagnosed my dog with a grade 3 luxating patella this week. I had never heard of it until then. Now I am working to find out all I can to help my pup and this has given me a great place to start.

    My grandpuppy has Patella Luxation. My son's vet recommended that he lose weight and keep it off. My son put him on a diet and it helped tremendously! His knee doesn't pop out any more.

    We've had our Boston puppy now since August. She's 7 months old and just had spay surgery a couple of weeks ago. She tried jumping up on the couch and squealed, but we thought it was her hurting her belly. Then she lifted her rear leg like it was hurt, but after a few seconds put it down and began running around like nothing happened. Then it happened again last night. Same leg, same reaction, small squeal, then like nothing happened. Doing some research we found this video and I have to thank you so much for the well executed video. A bunch of info. I'm calling my vet this am to have him look at Luna asap.

      Sound exactly like what happened to out BT, Millie. She has luxating patella in both legs and has had surgery on her left. They are both grade 3. The left is now grade 1. We are post 8weeks and she is still hopping about. It's been super hard on her and she has missed out on being a puppy. Xrays look good and everything is where it should be. However, she is slow to recovery which is concerning have started PT. It's A LOT of work and frustrating.

    I officially found out yesterday that my one year old Boston terrier Toby has a grade 3 luxating patella in his hind left and a grade 1 in his right. I scheduled the surgery right away for next week with the orthopedic specialist. This is my second dog, but the first small dog I’ve owned and got him from a breeder. I’m very worried that he has this so young. I got him less than a year ago. I have extensive experience working with animals at a vets and a horse barn. But it different when it’s your own dog. I hope I can help him recover and strengthen his leg after the surgery so the he’s back to his crazy active self. Your video helped me a lot though with some of the anxiety I have towards why he has this problem. Thanks so much to you and the doctor.

      yes that sounds rediculouse. I would only crate him at night. They naturally do not want to put weight on the damaged leg so just hanging out w them should be fine. putting them on 9.6hrtz pulsed electro magnetic therapy under there pillow at night will speed recovery up by half the time.

      @@MikeSmith-rj3bu or get a cat and put him with your dog. not joking. Vets always put a few cats in the kennels with dogs w ligament injuries or broken bones. Because the cats pur gives off a frequency that speeds up recovery. And a good cat is a lot cheaper than a pemf device. lol

    It’s possible our Chihuahua has this so the video has been very helpful. We go back soon for another exam and have a checked out but he’s under a year old so we think it will have to wait a bit if he does have it. We did purchase Fetch Pet insurance when we adopted him. Based on cost, we spent on our dogs that passed away. We thought it was a good idea to get insurance. I highly encourage people when you get a dog to get pet insurance.

    not a boston but I have a poodle mix and she has patellar luxation on both knees and surgery will probably cost between $6k to $8k not including consultation, xray costs and medications. My biggest concern is that my pup is super hyper and loves to jump how should I keep her still during recovery and I need to take her out to pee? also is there anything I can do now as prevention steps to keep her condition from worsening and decrease likelihood of arthritis in the future? Is there a knee brace that exists to keep the knees in place? I can't afford the surgery right now but plan to save up for it. I wish I could get it over with but my older chihuahua had 2 ER visits recently and were still paying off the $7k for those visits.

    Should the breeder be contacted to let them know my 10 month old has had to have the surgery - and should the AKC know so that they don’t allow the breeder to register more litters for the parents ??

    Thank you for this video! My 7 month old BT Petey was diagnosed with Luxating Patella. The bad news is, the vet said he will need surgery ($2999) and because he’s still a puppy, he can’t get the surgery until he’s a year old. He’s not overweight and is very active. Right now he limps to avoid putting any pressure on his leg. My concern is, what are the side effects of the surgery? Over time will he have to face additional surgeries for the same knee? Are there any pet insurance that allows pre-existing conditions?

      @@BostonTerrierSociety for us, doping up a puppy for such a long period of time, has been very concerning. BT puppies have so much energy. It's hard to contain that. The surgeon and vet recommended Trazadone which lists seizures as a side effect. Having gone through that (seizures) with our last BT, I took her off. CBD treats help sometimes however, I just learned that BT can have problems taking it due to their short snouts (breathing issues). My hope is that, after reding this reply, you would consider doing a follow-up video, highlighting these topics. In addition to post surgery physical therapy for MPL.

    I can’t find any information on how a dog relieves himself (bowel movement)!after double surgery. I’m worried what that will look like. Can one person get them outside to do this? How do you hold them to squat after day one and that firs week (or two)? Can someone help me? I’m really nervous about this.

    • @3pendont4
      @3pendont4 Рік тому

      I totally sympathize w you. my dog back leg is jacked up now but he still squats although aquardly. I suppose having a knee wrap from surgery will be better support than even a hurt leg so I personally would just watch them and let them squat on there own. by the way a pemf device if you can get one and run it under the dogs pillow at night at 9.6hrtz will speed up recovery and cut the time in half.

      also crating your dog 24/7 for 8 weeks is retarded. just do that at night. and watch her during the day. Dogs won't put unnecessary weight on an injured leg. you just don't want to leave her alone if you work away from home.

      My BT currently has this condition. One thing I read (and noticed) is if your BT has a funny way of stretching - this may be a sign. For example, some mornings I noticed my BT would get up and drag his legs behind him for a bit, like a long stretch and then limp as if he was teaching himself how to walk. I dismissed it thinking he had growing pains (he’s less than a year old) or morning cramps.
