when I was sick and had to be on dialysis, I had to lock my Boston Baxter out of my room due to sanitation requirements while doing my treatments. My best little friend in the world one day hid under my bed for 45 min while I setup and got started, then crawled out and lay next to me the rest of the night. That is true love.
My wife absolutely insisted on a Bossy. I was very hesitant. I’ll say this now that we have had her about 9 months. They are unbelievably fantastic. I couldn’t imagine not having her in my life.
My husband was the same: Boston ignorant. That was 34 years ago and we've had nothing but Bostons since then; 6 total. and always two at a time. He's a true convert!
My beautiful Boston lived to be almost 18 years old. We made sure she ate a very good quality diet, got her exercise (without over doing it) and received plenty of love and affection. It's been three years since she has been gone and there are no words to describe how deeply we miss her. Our sweet little girl.....
My sincerest condolences, go out to you!! I thought 11 years was along time with my boston baby, Elvis, who passed a month ago... but you're right, there are absolutely no words, just a deep pain and a huge hole! I couldn't even breathe if I'd have lost mine after having him for 18 years! So my heart goes out to you...sending you both love and prayers!!
I've had Boston terrier since I was 3 years old. My parents used to be AKC breeders of Boston terriers. They are the best breed ever. They will love you till the day I die. I recently lost my most recent Boston terrier, Ellie, after 13 years of current love. Even the day she died, she waited till she came home to work so she could die in my arms. I miss her every And hopefully we'll get another one soon. Because they bring so much joy to your heart. You won't ever wanna be without one go Boston. Terriers thank you for forty years of love
The best advice I can give for first time Boston owners: the first year is usually much different than the rest… meaning, They’re usually very hyper and crazy, but please be patient. After that first year will be the best dog you can ever ask for❤️❤️❤️❤️
Our Boston turns 3 this August and she is still acts like a nutty puppy that wants to play ball 5 times a day. She keeps us busy 🙂 We got a male chocolate colored Boston as a companion for her. He plays but is much more mellow than his sidekick. He's actually sort of lazy :-) He just turned 1.
My sweet Boston lived 16 years and I was devastated when he passed. He was a loyal and loving companion. I adopted another Boston 2 years later and have no regrets. They are wonderful dogs♥
My Boston’s, first one, is 11 months. She can be so loving and attached, and then watch out because she wants attention. Runs fast, jumps, little bites, very funny, and then collapses. I know these behaviors she will outgrow. Love her. She’s Sadie.
We are seniors who currently have our first Boston Terrier. He is almost 2. His first year of life he was an absolute beast with jumping and serious biting, to the point we thought we may have to re-home him. I was committed to making it work, so we invested in both group and private training along with a litany of toys to entertain and distract him. It was well worth the time, money and effort! He has become a wonderful companion. Some things that we found invaluable: *An easy walk harness for leash training. *A squirt bottle for correction and small treats for reward. *An outdoor tug toy to hang from a tree or pole in a fenced yard. *A yoga ball or peanut ball to chase around the fenced yard and tire themselves out.
What Michele means by "biting" is that Bostons can be a bit mouthy when they're puppies. They don't bite hard to hurt but can get a bit nippy when you rough-house with them. At that point, say NO and end the play session. Then there's the Boston Zoomies - they tear around the house like they're on fire leaping chairs in a single bound. They do need exercise particularly as pups. You must be the alpha in the house or you will be their pet! But you won't find a funnier, more lovable compact breed.
I have a family member who recently bred his male and female Boston Terrier, and I am getting a little gray and white female in about 2-weeks. I’ve only ever had chihuahuas and chihuahua mixes. Today, I have begun the process of puppy proofing and puppy preparing the living space. I haven’t had a puppy in my home in 13-years, and that was a teacup chihuahua. Wish me luck.
Both our Bostons were rescues, different personalities as everyone says. Our first guy lived a happy 14 years. 😔 Our second we drove from Boston to Kentucky to pick him up. He has been with us 2 years and is 4 years old now. He has the bark of a killer but the personality of a lover, and can jump like he’s in the circus! I think this is why no one one wanted him. Well he works great with us!!!🥰
Boston Jack, was my little buddy for over 16 years ... he passed away a few month back and left a enormous void in our home. My daughters brought a new Boston home for fathers day. I gave him the name of Willy (Willy the mutt) and he quickly got attached to my oldest daughter's large 4 year old shaggy sheepdog. Poor Nimo the sheepdog must now put up with Willy the terror who is relentless in his attacks from every direction. A true Mutt and Jeff scenario. Willy has his work cut out to take over from Jack ... but Bostons have great characters and Willy will surely live up to it !
Our experience with Boston Terriers runs very close to Dr. Lindsey's description. Personally, I never thought to much about Bostons. They were cute, but ... ... then my girlfriend adopted one at an adoption event at her local bank where they feature each dog for a week, to replace her 14y/o " Sneagle" Jasmine who had recently passed away. She is Black &White, features all the Boston color characteristics, however: she has been blessed with varying degrees of black speckles of varying sizes all over her body, especially fine spotted sox on all fours . She has been previously names Betty Boop , so we kept that. I've never encountered a dog with more character personality and such expressive eyes and face. She adjusted to her new home immediately and brings joy to our lives daily. Get a Boston Terrier ! They love their humans.
I am a first dog owner and I had my Boston for two years. Got her as a puppy and now I am looking for a second one. Lol she sleeps with me every night and she follows me every where in the house. If she’s not in the same room as me. I know she’s doing something bad. Best breed ever!
Omg yes! I had three of them, and when they aren't following me around the house or hanging out with me, i know they're doing something they aren't supposed to.
Dexter is 12 now, much calmer, very loving, but can get very enthousiastic and playful. Runs like an arrow, and no breedrelated problems at all. Love him very much. Get a Boston, you will not regret it!!!
Fifth generation to own Boston Terriers! They look sophisticated, but are absolutely hilarious.. Loving, silly, loyal & each one has their own personality! Wonderful for singles, families or retirees in apartment or house. Devoted cuddle bugs! * Got my two from rescue group & local pound. Unless you're a breeder, they don't have to be purebred or pedigreed to make EXCELLENT PETS! *
If you do get a Boston Be prepared to be followed everywhere!! My girl doesnt leave my side EVER. She thrives on physical contact and shes the most adorable girl and i couldnt be without her
Have a 9 month old and not only does she have to sleep in bed with me and my wife but she has to be physically touching one of us during the night while she sleeps. She’s ridiculous but very loved!
I’ve had two female Bostons, and am now thinking about getting another. They couldn’t of had more different personalities. Karla was smaller, shy, and dainty. Lola was stocky and dominant. Both were friendly, loving, very entertaining, and so full of energy. Best dogs ever! Don’t think about getting one, just get one. Every day will be filled with happiness.❤️
My wife and I have a Boston that we got when we lived in South Korea. They are very rare in that country but are becoming very popular. We moved back to the states in 2018, and she came with us flying from Seoul to San Francisco to Houston. She did very well on the flight and rode in a carrier in the cabin. She will be 11 years old in 5 days. Her name is Cookie because my Korean wife and a couple of her Korean friends thought that she looked like an Oreo cookie. She is sweet and slightly neurotic and we love her to death.
I’ve had Bostons all my life. Currently have my 4th one. My first 2 lived to 14 years old and 3rd one was 15 when she passed. They were all black and white. My current one is a blue brindle named Bloo and she’s 7 and I love her so so much, they’re the best breed!
Our boy Jack is tuning 1 this Friday and is amazing and smart. He’s a handful but no doubt a great boy. We have a pool and didn’t realize they were swimmers. This little guy can spend hours jumping and swimming nonstop. We are looking to breed him but are cautious in how we go about this. This Drs assessment of this breed is spot on. Love our little dude Jack.
I had a Boston for 7 years. We loved him so much. His name was Donut. He was the best dog with the biggest personality. So loving, loved to play, loved car rides. Got into trouble from time to time. He would mark in the house which was a painful habit but we loved him even with his issues. Unfortunately he got IVD (intervertebral disc disease) and was paralyzed over night a few months ago. It broke my heart into a billion pieces because we had to put him to sleep. It was so sudden and he was in immense pain. I def want another Boston but I am so worried about the IVD happening again. I don’t think my heart can take it but it’s hard to think of having another breed after having a Boston ❤
Our rescue 1.5 year old Boston came with the name Otis, but we have added Hogan (Nosy Hogan because he must investigate anything), Felix (don't know why, it fits when he clowns around), and Itchy because he can be such an itch at times. His antics make us laugh every day. He thinks he's so tough but then he's so needy when he follows my wife everywhere in the house and cuddles like a baby. I'm 67 and lost my first Boston over 50 years ago and I cried for two straight weeks. I already dread the day when little Otis won't be with us.
We had 2 Bostons!! Reggie and Lucy!! They were the best doggies ever!! good with people and little barking but did bark when anyone came near house!! Good alarm doggies!! We miss them terribly!! Reggie lived to 16!!
My mom has a Boston Terrier! She is one of the sweetest dogs I have ever met. My mom has had her for probably 6 years now and I think I only ever heard her bark or make any noise maybe 3 times. I always tease that she is mute because she literally doesn't make any noise. My mom's Boston Terrier is a bit on the older side but you wouldn't be able to tell! she acts just like a puppy. She is the perfect mix of a playful and lazy dog.
I have a 11 month old Boston Terrier named Lucy, she is reddish fur and just so funny. Lucy loves her zoomies, she has a great sense of humor and makes us laugh. This is the First BT that we owned since she was 8 weeks old. For first timers, these dogs love to run, they give you kisses, they love to please you, and its seems they dont like the heat so well. you will not be disappointed.
We've had our little guy for a little over 4 months now and he is one lovable dog. He does follow me everywhere inside the house but will wander a bit outside. The first few weeks were the hardest with having to take him outside every 2-4 hours. They are definitely in need of temperature control. He doesn't want to be too hot or too cold.
Honestly pretty accurate so far I have a 6 month old Boston they are extremely smart and trainable and total sweethearts if you get them from a respectable and responsible breeder that does health checks most of health issues can be avoided
I’m Australian and have my first Boston terrier. Got her because I was thinking about a pug or Frenchie until I found out about all the health issues and boy I’m glad I did. She still has a cute little squishy face but has much more projection than those do and we have no issues with her breathing except for some light snoring. We have been to dog parks with pugs and frenchies not and it is really sad so see my little Comet zooming around like a mad thing and to see the pugs and Frenchies watching wistfully while snuffling and snorting around barely doing any exercise. She does get some hay fever and watery eyes because of her bug eyes so she needs some antihistamines when it gets really bad and we have special wipes to keep them clean. Unfortunately people in Australia are wising up to this breed now so no doubt they will start to be breed irresponsibly and their health here will also start to deteriorate. But for now the Bostons in Australia are still a pretty healthy little breed.
I have 2 bostons (brindle and white) I absolutely love them! Such great dogs! They do fart a lot, tho. I’m surprised she didn’t mention how smart and easy to train they are
Our female 6 month old BThas been a nightmare to house break. We have had many dogs many breeds and none were this hard (potty train). She loves running after our American Shepard and Is best friends with our 16 month old Standard Poodle. Yard fence surrounding the house lets the dogs run around and around. The BT runs full blast. Very little farting- high quality dry kibble.
I had a Boston for 13 years. He was my best friend. I taught him to catch a frisbee and he was obsessed with it for his entire life. These dogs will overexercise so you need to limit their activity in hot climates.
I've had 6 Boston's now in the 50 years they have been in the family. They are the only breed for me. One health issue you didn't mention was they are also prone to seizures from about age 8. All, but one, has made it to 13 years and my current one is 12 and doing well, not even showing signs of the seizures that every other one of mine have had. One thing a prospective Boston parent needs to realize, though, is from the time you get them until they are about 2.5 years old, they can be very destructive when left alone. My mother had a two tier coffee table back in the 70s and our own Boston chewed off all 8 corners of that 2 years. However, as I stated at the beginning...despite these things, you cannot have a better family member that wears fur than a Boston and I hope to get #7 before I leave this planet.
I’m delighted to say I’ve had the pleasure of owning 3 Boston Terriers over the years and currently have a rescue named Bugsy. Although he’s my first male dog ever he has proven to be a great dog nonetheless despite unusual behaviors* I’ve never had with any of my dogs no matter what breed. I would highly recommend this breed to anyone! ❤ *😮
I have two Boston Terriers: the female (Coco) is 7 and my male is approximately 16 years old. We adopted Max and they guessed he was about 2 years old when he became part of our family. I love BT's! They are smart, loving and affectionate. I periodically search for adoptable or BT puppies but they are hard to find where I live. I recommend two at a time, since they bond together and become very close. My two spoiled rotten and that is just how it is. (: I can't imagine not having a BT in my life.
Great family dog, excellent with kids, easy to maintain and they do not bark a lot. I’ve owned other breeds of dog but have fallen in love with the breed. They are very sweet and affectionate. They love attention and being with their family.
I will always have Boston in my life and recommend them to anyone who is looking for a great family dog. I have a wonderful and spoiled pack that consists of 2 Bostons, 4 Boston/Pug mixes, a Pug, a HHL Chinese Crested and 2 Pit bulls, my world revolves around my babies and I wouldn't have it any other way (well it would be nice if they could help vacuum occasionally).
Love my boston sooo much. Something most videos say is that they don't shed a lot. I honestly think that's not true. The hair is short but it definitely is a big amount. I have to brush her often. Just thought i should mention this for people looking at this breed. Bostons are definitely the best breed. Definitely can't imagine a life without my Boston. But if you are considering a Boston do know they do shed a lot.
My first two didn’t shed too much and my foster shed just a little bit more. My my current baby sheds soooo much. But I can’t find a brush that works. What kind do you use
I have a 2 year old Evie..shes amazing I don't find she sheds much at all..its one of the reasons I chose a boston..I had 2 siameses befor and they shed more
I own 3 Bostons, or they own me. The best dog breed ever. Loving, playful and just goofy. There isn’t a day that goes by where one or all of them make me laugh.
My Boston barks a lot, fights with the cat, hates new people and tries to kill them, and farts all the time. Maybe it's my fault but she doesn't exactly fit the description. Except for the breathing issues. That part was spot on for me.
We have two Bossy's, Stella is our first ever she is two and so much fun we had to get me a boy, Whiskey is 10 weeks and he is a terror but I love him already.
I had lost my Bella Rose back on Jan. 9th while at the vets for checkup. the reason she was at the vets in 1st place her eye seem to be getting cloudy. she suddenly had severe seizure, afterwards the vets said we must let her go due to all the pain and suffering she was in, my Bella was barely 4 years old, I miss her so very much, but now wonder did I do the right thing?
I have 5 year old Boston Terrier named Toby. I love him so much. He’s super smart, super friendly, and super fast. He obsessed with his three dozen balls day and night. He’s the best dog I’ve ever had and if I adopt another dog it has to be Boston terrier.
I’ve had Bostons for 30 years. I can't imagine life without one. My recommendation would be to check the parents and try to get one with a little bit of a snout, rather than one with a really flat face. As cute as they are, the really flat-faced ones can have terrible breathing problems and may require airway surgery. The ones with a bit of a snout will breath better and be able to be a more active family dog. They are smart, funny, loving and friendly. You can't go wrong with a Boston.
We r in our 60s and have a brother and sister. He is 4 and she is 2. They are very different. She has the short nose but his is longer. They are brindle
I am currently on my 4th Boston. 2 have been rescues 2 as puppies. The more I know people the more I love these love bugs. However they do require a close relationship with their people with much love and attention and total committment. My current Boston was surrendered x2 SMH but he is in the best home situation now.
My Zingo is a Boston Terrier. She lived almost 14 years. My profile has a picture of her. Zingo was super smart. I trained her to do about 40 commands. She was active dog like a Lab yet very small. She was very friendly yet like the dog in the video aloof meaning cool and distant at times yet very friendly. Zingo was smart, friendly and needed to be with people. She did not like being held or in lap but would sit beside you and let you pet her all day. Tempature was a concern they can not be to hot or too cold. Snubed nose they can not tolerate 85F and above and short hair they get cold at 60F. Zingo would tolerate children but if they continued to pester her she would yap and semi-bite at children. She would never bite at children but just let child known that child was bothering her to much. At the end of her life she could not see very well and got cancer. Summery, I love my Zingo and will get another Boston Terrier. Overall they are friendly, active, and wonderful companions.
My son rescued a brother/sister combination. They were great pets! The downside was that it was expensive to maintain their health. The eyes alone cost a fortune to keep healthy. They have since passed and I really missed their company.
@Carved Haunts the male dog developed some kind of infection and the ophthalmologist (for animals) could not save it after some treatment so had to remove it and replaced it with a glass eye. The sister developed cataracts and due to her age they decided to just let it run it's course. She eventually became totally blind. It was not cheap. On the upside, my son just rescued a new male Boston Terrier last week from the same place as the other two. It's about two years old and a really well behaved pet. This rescue actually interviews prospective homes to make sure it's in the best interest of the dogs.
I share my life with a 10 month old dark blue and white Boston. I'd say don't let the non standard colours put you off buying one. My dog , Harry, is very loving and as mad as a box of frogs!
Great dogs if your in an appartment with fussy neighbors...they are very quiet in general (mine litterally never barks at anything). The reason I mention this is because two of my closest friends have Chihuahua's (ones a mix), and they are great dogs, but a nightmare when it comes to barking (not saying all of them are)...they've both had issues with neighbors constanly complaining. Bostons are amazing all round. For dry eyes, I just give my dog a couple of drops of Burt's Bees' eye wash every day, he actually likes it (like 8 bucks off amazon and each one last me for around 6 months). He doesn't have eye issues (knock on wood), it's more of a preventative thing cause it can get really dry in the winter and his eyes are pretty bulgie.
I have 2 Bostons, Panda and Tre. They are brothers and will turn 9 on August 9th. They rule the house. They are spoiled rotten and so loving. They think they are human. 🤣
We just recently got a boston terrier and im in a wheelchair and still live with my parents and she listens to them and not me.. And were trying to potty train her so i want to help with her but she wont get out of her crate. For me.. Help

I lost mine this past August 13 to a seizure, she was only 5 years old. Absolutely heart shattering

Sweetness is one of the many personality traits

She will be 11 years old in 5 days. Her name is Cookie because my Korean wife and a couple of her Korean friends thought that she looked like an Oreo cookie. She is sweet and slightly neurotic and we love her to death.
I’ve had Bostons all my life. Currently have my 4th one. My first 2 lived to 14 years old and 3rd one was 15 when she passed. They were all black and white. My current one is a blue brindle named Bloo and she’s 7 and I love her so so much, they’re the best breed!
I have a "blue" as well! He was a breeder dog and he is wonderful, never leaves my side.
They need another video just to describe their personality 😂
Boston terriers are amazing. Idk if I would ever choose another breed.
Have to agree with you. Have a 10 year old BT and we are getting a 13 week year old BT tomorrow. They are the best. Such great temperament
@@natlovell122 Bet they are both HAPPY now!
I had a bunch of these dogs as a kid growing up. They were very playful and loved to snuggle.
Adopt a rescue
That will be soul destroying the IVD, painful with lovely memories I'm choked now thinking of your experience.
@@carltonthepug That's how I "get through it". Rescue dogs are so loyal...
I have a Boston and they are the most entertaining breed I’ve owned. Just delightful.
So right!
Been having my Boston for a little over a trade now got him at 6 weeks, best dog breed ever. He’s like a big baby though lol
I have two about to get another one. Best dog ever. My very first boston made it to 16 Such a blessing.
Boxer for old people. Wish my Mum had gone for a Bosty when their last old Boxer passed. Beautiful and fun little characters.
I have 2 bostons (brindle and white)
I absolutely love them! Such great dogs! They do fart a lot, tho. I’m surprised she didn’t mention how smart and easy to train they are
Best dog I ever owned was a Boston they really do have the best personalities of any dog !
I am on my second sweet Boston Terrier. I lost my first one a year ago last July. He was almost 12. They are loving, loyal and intelligent.
Love my Boston. She's perfect :) I wouldn't want to have it any other way.
Doctor Lindsay, thank you so much for mentioning Sgt.Stubby...a true American Hero. 🐶🇺🇸
I had a Boston for 13 years. He was my best friend. I taught him to catch a frisbee and he was obsessed with it for his entire life. These dogs will overexercise so you need to limit their activity in hot climates.
They are the BEST dogs! I have a blue abd brindle both sweet as can be super gentle and obedient
Boston terriers are honestly the BEST dogs!❤
I'm forced to agree!!
Being absolutely hilarious is a big one. You will laugh all of the time. Even when they sleep.
I love mine he’s so cute
We have a Boston and she's adorable, very bonded with our other dog too x
Love my boston sooo much. Something most videos say is that they don't shed a lot. I honestly think that's not true. The hair is short but it definitely is a big amount. I have to brush her often. Just thought i should mention this for people looking at this breed. Bostons are definitely the best breed. Definitely can't imagine a life without my Boston. But if you are considering a Boston do know they do shed a lot.
They definitely shed a surprising amount and I'm not sure why
My first two didn’t shed too much and my foster shed just a little bit more. My my current baby sheds soooo much. But I can’t find a brush that works. What kind do you use
@@paintedskies3279 KONG Zoom Groom Multi-Use Dog Brush is the best brush I've found so far.
I have a 2 year old Evie..shes amazing I don't find she sheds much at all..its one of the reasons I chose a boston..I had 2 siameses befor and they shed more
Love my two boston terriers!
My grandma passed away in 2015. I have her Boston pug mix she’s 15 still really hyper and smart lol
I own 3 Bostons, or they own me. The best dog breed ever. Loving, playful and just goofy. There isn’t a day that goes by where one or all of them make me laugh.
We have a Frenchton that definitely favors the Boston more… great dog love him.
I’m on my fourth Boston Terrier love the breed
Bostons are the best. I’m the proud owner of my 5th Boston.
My Boston barks a lot, fights with the cat, hates new people and tries to kill them, and farts all the time. Maybe it's my fault but she doesn't exactly fit the description. Except for the breathing issues. That part was spot on for me.
addicted to Boston's
I approve this ❤️
Thank you for watching Toby!
Do the video on SGT. Stubby, he even captured a German soldier single paw.
He literally grabbed that guy by the seat of his pants, his butt if you will.
Good video! We have a 14 year old male. Still in good shape, but deaf. Love the breed!
Best dog ever, I grew up with this bread, get one they're the best
I had a Boston. He was awesome.
And I forgot to say... I will be adopting another Boston Soon!! I love their personalities, loving and snuggling nature!
Thank you, Dr. Butzer. I now have my third BT, Stella. I LOVE THEM!! So fun and funny and each is a different type of clown. Fun, smart, and funny!!
They have lots of energy.. like unlimited power! Could probably play nonstop in cooler weather, they will slow or stop playing in high temperatures.
LOVE boston terriers ❤
I just got a 16 week puppy she is very skidish and wants to stay under me she seems scared of the outside to is that normal
No! work with her! be kind and loving and take things slow and make everything fun with treats! Good luck!
I share my life with a 10 month old dark blue and white Boston. I'd say don't let the non standard colours put you off buying one. My dog , Harry, is very loving and as mad as a box of frogs!
Yep, I saw few places before I got mine saying that they don't shed much.
Love my Boston Terrier ❤️
Best dogs ever
Do they shed?
Yes
Only a little
Never had one i have a beagle hes alot of work but hes a good dog had him for four years now
Cushings disease is common also my 16 yo Boston had it and passed from it was devastated miss him every day that was 8 yrs ago he was family 😢
Wait... did you say they are calm?
Sgt Stubby was an American Staffordshire Terrier
Yeah, that dog did not look anything like a Boston Terrier.
You can't own a Boston Terrierist, they own you. The happiest entity on earth.
I have 2 Bostons, Panda and Tre. They are brothers and will turn 9 on August 9th. They rule the house. They are spoiled rotten and so loving. They think they are human. 🤣
I have a boston and a pitty and they are best buds
Boston’s are the best, just be ready to play….Constantly 😊
Boston terriers always happy! I swear
My favorite breed I don’t think I’ll ever get another breed ❤
have some puppies ready to go in about month
They are the best.
