I didn't understand what you were actually doing with the software because I don't know much about music but it was really fascinating to see the thought process on how composer compose music, and I could really see the passion while you were composing keep up the amazing work!
hey Zach, that's a perfect example of the creative workflow in a day of media composers. all the struggles, the sweat and tears are shared by thousands of fellow composers every day. I love your final version, well done!
For the first time EVER, I'm sharing a behind-the-scenes look at my composing process for animation, from a blank project to the finished score. Special thanks to Pivotal for the wonderful animation 😁 Pivotal's Channel: ua-cam.com/users/piwoot
That was Awesome! Really loved the transitions from moment to moment how you made the different instruments take over. Definitely learned something new!:):)
I really enjoyed this. I always watch your Carol of the Bells duet with Frank every Christmas season and decided to take a look at the other things you have been up to. I’d enjoy watching more creative moments like these. Good work 👍
Loved the process, thanks for sharing it! I've noticed you use articulations sets a lot. How do you go around the different negative track delays each articulation needs if all the articulations are on the same track?🤔 Keep up the good work!
Thanks Alvaro! Wherever that's an issue, I have them split out, but I've only found that to be a problem between Cinematic Studio Series' legatos versus their articulations. Their Legato is around -200ms, while the other articulations are around -80ms from memory :)
Hey Zach, Just found your channel, this video is awesome. I love seeing the process even with tempo adjustments. Something that might be helpful to add would be quick notes of your theory process behind some of what you’re doing like the key and harmonic decisions. Excited to watch some more of your videos!
Thanks so much Jack! I covered my template in this video (linked below), but will likely make a video in the future doing a play through of my sounds/settings in the future :) ua-cam.com/video/wBAdi_kUAtM/v-deo.html
@@ZachHeyde I’ve just been watching it I love the nerdy breakdown! How did you manage to name the bus sends on your tracks rather than B1 etc?? And I notice you have a lot of gain plugins on your tracks, is there a benefit to that? I’ve been working on my logic template recently and mixing and would love any advice!
@@JackMcKenzieComposer Glad to hear it 😊 The bus’es can be renamed through “I/O Labels” (a quick search will tell you the menu it’s in). As for the gain, I do that so I can “gain stage” each track appropriately... this means that the levels are near perfect without adjusting the volume fader at all, enabling a cleaner setup and more fine tuning. The volume fader has the most nuanced adjustments around 0db, so if you’re setting initial instrument levels by yanking the fader up or down, you’re losing the ability to fine tune down the road. You can test it out-move the fader to -25db or so and see how difficult it is to make fine adjustments around that level! Hope that helps :)
@@JackMcKenzieComposer If you’re ever interested in a one-time lesson, shoot me an email at zachheyde@gmail.com - I love helping other composers get their setup reared and ready to go!
@@ZachHeyde no, thank you! Your workflow, taste, and consideration are all very inspiring. If you have a moment, please check out my 3 minute “music film.” I’d love your feedback! Positive or negative. It’s new on my channel, called “The Witch’s Keep.” Either way, good stuff man!
Hello I was wondering if you could describe your virtual orchestra set up and the sounds you’re using ? Like : for violins legato I use symphobia and for the piano I use Noire. For the oboe I use etc..... ? Thanks !!!
Today I was so dissapointed in me for lack of inspiration while trying to compose...I found your video "Don't give up" and it is like this was intended for me...THANK YOU! I will definitely buy your Udemy course very soon. Question, do you have a video showing the VIs libraries that you use? The choir is beautiful. Is it East West?
Thanks Jim, so happy to hear that! Hope you enjoy the course :) Here's a list of what I'm currently using! I believe the choir at this point was Insolidus by 8dio 😁 - Cinematic Studio Winds/Brass/Strings (for almost everything) - TrueStrike Percussion - Hollywoodwinds Runs - Cinebrass PRO - Ample sound Guitars/Bass - Noire Piano, Embertone Piano - Insolidus Choir, Strezov Essentials Choir - Afflatus Strings, - LASS Strings - Omnisphere
I just found the video with your template! Super useful! I use EastWest strings which I hate! I will consider the Cinematic studio strings! Plus I am looking at the the 8dio choir! Great sound!
Hey Zach I had to sign in to comment what a beautiful sound you have full of wonder and colour. Is there any chance you could walk us through the process of building a template and what each plugin does or would that be too much?
Thanks so much for sharing that! I do have a walkthrough of my template and layout here... ua-cam.com/video/wBAdi_kUAtM/v-deo.html As well as a downloadable version of my template using Logic's built in sounds here: www.zachheyde.com/store/orchestral-template-for-lpx I'll likely make another video in the near future about my sound, as I've gotten lots of great feedback recently on it! 😁
@@ZachHeyde I found it shortly after posting haha. You have a very inspiring attitude towards composing it it was great to see you compose that live and just do it without any technical issues.I hope you plan to do more in the future.
I enjoyed this more than I expected to enjoy. And I expected to enjoy A LOT. Haven't been this disappointed to see a video end this quickly in a while- I kinda thought it would be useful, and don't get me wrong,it is pretty useful! It's just that I realized- "wait- *oh yeah, you need money to get nice composing equipment* " edit: Oh yeah(x2),I almost forgot! Have you heard of Chrisopher Larkin? More importantly,do you think you could reach out to him? That would be the collab of the century! (well, now it sounds like I made this comment just to tell you about Chris, please don't think about it that way xD)
Thanks for the kind words!! I’d recommend doing some searches for free virtual instruments, there’s a TON out there (and Spitfire has a whole orchestra library out there for under $50) and you should always work with the tools you have/can afford before investing in more 😁 I love Christopher Larkin’s music! He’s an exceptional composer-would love to connect with him some day :)
Thanks, Dean! I use Logic Pro X, with several third party virtual instruments (Cinematic Studio Strings and Winds, Cinebrass Pro, and various percussion libraries 😁)
The videos are great but I hope you just give some theory explanation beforehand also. It will just take a minute or two and whole learning experience will be changed. Please take it as a positive criticism.
