    I love how Lady Lyanna Mormont is the one who stood up for Jon after we got the reveal about how his mother was Lyanna Stark. Lady Mormont was named in memory of Lyanna Stark after all, and it seems fitting her spiritual successor would be the first to stand up for Jon Snow.

    It's interesting how hard people are on Sansa, forgetting how young she was/is throughout all of this and not taking into consideration that her becoming disillusioned with the fairy tale life she had been promised throughout her life and learning to adapt is part of a really compelling story arc. Granted, it's better in the books where we see her progression without some of the baiting and then setting back that D&D have done - having her go from being a victim at Winterfell, to learning how to handle herself in the Eyrie and hinting at her becoming a major player, to setting her back to almost square one by what they did to her with Ramsay. Watching people harping on her mistakes and hating her while forgiving or excusing others for making mistakes like Comic Book Girl 19 is doing/has done is just tiring at this point.

      Right?! I don't understand how we empathize with Cersei and cheer her on as she murders hundreds of innocent people and the worst thing she endured was jail and streaking through the streets as people said mean words to her. Yet with Sansa we have zero empathy, and harp on her for every choice she makes. What kind of human wishes to see her be further punished and tortured? After what she's been through and survived, she deserves a lot more credit. I hope we see her characters rise next season. I feel that the show is destroying her arc thus far.

      +Michael Celentano I don't agree...

    • @jayjenkins9113
      @jayjenkins9113 8 років тому +1

      Well, I don't empathize with Cersei, I just realize she is one female character you don't step on without serious consequences following. Even though I didn't like the head Sparrow, I found a small part of me rooting for him to corner Cersei once and for all... which he almost did! Broke her down, shame walked her, kept her contained within the Red Keep, limited her access and persuasion over Tommen, deprived her access to the young Queen, segregated her from Jamie and began to undermine her influence in the other noble families.
      She is a fearful character in the story and has surpassed even Tywin in her ruthless endeavors to secure what she believes is her right. Now that her children are dead and gone, there is NOTHING that will matter to her and that is extremely bad for everyone at the Red Keep. Jamie is the last thing she cares even remotely about... and even HE plays second fiddle to her vengeance at this point.
      I don't hate Sansa either... I don't relish more punishment being heaped on her either. My frustration with Sansa is how much bad shit does she need to happen to her before she reacts? My anger isn't really with her being a bad actress, or not having a compelling story, it is the persistence to maintain a status quo while she is being kicked, dragged and tortured from one corner of the realm to the other. Enough is enough. Make some sort of attempt to change your fate... even if it is nothing more than a plan for self-preservation. I hate to think Sansa has endured so much and will check out without so much as a single act of retribution when every one else in Westeros has wiped out entire great houses for considerably less reason than she has.
      She even said herself to Jon before the Battle of the Bastards, "If Ramsay wins the day, I will not fall back into his hands..." or something to that effect. Meaning, she was contemplating suicide as a last act of defiance. Character flaw that implies someone who is broken and lost all hope. Not something I perceived as a plot to take matters into her own hands and deal with Ramsay, or anyone else who attempts to further abuse her.
      What truly makes Sansa so unappealing to me is the lack of activity regardless of events happening around her. Even then, I still have hope she will get off the fence and do something, anything at this point.

  • @Zimionz
    @Zimionz 8 років тому +47

    It was a smart move of Cersei? Most certainly not! She made an enemy out of every major house in Westeros. Dorne, the Reach, the Vale, the North and the Iron Islands are in open rebellion against her. The Riverlands and at least parts of the Westerlands are highly unreliable. So she's basically left with the Crownlands and the Stormlands as her only base of power. That wasn't a smart move, it was a typical Cersei move. Vengeance without thinking about consequences. As Tywin quite correctly put it once, she's not as smart as she thinks it is.

    • @DemonLordSparda
      @DemonLordSparda 8 років тому +4

      I know right? To make it worse some people truly believe that Daenerys and Cersei are going to have some epic queen battle next season. I can't imagine where people think she's going to get forces to stand against Daenerys and her three dragons let alone her fleet. King's Landing has very few warships. Cersei doesn't have an army. Dorne and Highgarden are actively against her. The Stormlands have no important to the plot ruler. The Westernlands lost their leader thanks to Cersei and would more than likely follow Jaime. Hilariously the Riverlands are under the rule of Edmure Tully of all people and I doubt he has any reason to go anywhere. The Vale is obviously under Robyn and Petyr. Finally Jon has the North.
      Who does Cersei have? For the sake of argument let's just say that somehow Jaime stays on her side. He might be able to force Edmure to help them. But those are the only options and that will not in any way happen. Cersei is dead within one or two episodes depending on where Daenerys heads first. The real fight is up North anyway. Cersei's pig headed and short sighted action signed her own end. Because I'll tell you who she has, the Gold Cloaks, Gregor Clegane, Qyburn, and maybe a few token Lannister forces loyal to her. That is all. I just want to shake my head anytime someone tries to say she's going to be a major player next season.

    • @Zorriet
      @Zorriet 8 років тому +1

      She had no other option though, she might have been executed. She was surrounded by enemies before, she is still surrounded by enemies. At least she is still alive.

      She also pissed off her own family - she did kill some major Lannister members, too, and surely the remaining Lannisters will disavow her actions rather then go against everyone. Also, as for the Iron Islands, Theon's uncle has made the 1,000 ships to try to seduce Danny to take the throne through marriage. But Danny is clearly not interested in him as she sails to King's Landing - so why shouldn't Theon's uncle decide to align with Cersi? She needs a navy to protect against Danny's navy (a naval battle would be awesome) and the guy would be eager to marry her and shine as the husband/leader of the Iron Throne and Cersi would likely agree to use his navy for protection and then it's the game of which one of them will kill the other first... I think that Theon's uncle will be her only potential ally...

      Edmure isn't in charge of Riverrun. He was brought out just to get the castle to surrender. Walder Frey told Jaime that Edmure was back in his cell. He'll continue to live out his life as a hostage of the Freys or Lannisters. In the book Jaime sent him and his family to Casterly Rock to live comfortably as a hostage. They haven't mentioned it in the show, but in the book the castle is owned now by a Frey who is married to one of Jaime's aunts.

      The thing with Sansa is IMO, is that she has the most tragic story plots and therefore is very sympathetic and relatable. She has a interesting story arc almost similar to Queen Elizabeth, but the problem as to why a lot of people get angry/frustrated with her is that she doesn't make useful choices that most people would have wised up to at this point in the story instead of requiring saving. At some point after marrying Joffrey and seeing the darkness of life for what it is, she should of learned to deal with those around her better in order to ensure her likelihood of survival. Even playing up the " tragic Stark princess" somewhat could of been used to her advantage instead of riding the waves of life and getting hit down everytime by the more seasoned players who've used her as a pawn ,at every turn.

    • @xXNekou
      @xXNekou 8 років тому +9

      She's more intelligent in the book than she is in the tv series I think. In the books it was clear at some point that she knew she had to play innocent and stupid and weak to avoid harm, she knew when to cry and how to trick people with her cry to survive. Yeah, it's not a great skill, she's no badass assassin like Arya, but still she grew much much stronger than she was at the beginning.

    Apparently Arya is also a magic person who can kill two grown men, slaughter them for meat, grind up that meat, make pie crust, make pie, tie up the kitchen for what must have been hours, get rid of the rest of the bodies which would have weighed significantly more than her, then bring Walder Frey the pie without anyone knowing. Not only would that be impossible, it makes Arya a sadistic serial killer type of character that I no longer really like. It was upsetting

      She trained to be an assassin. She also has trained in sword fighting. Killing two grown men off guard is not that difficult. Moving them around would take work. Cutting them up would also take a while. Taking a piece of them and mincing it up isn't. Getting into the kitchen wouldn't be since she would have their faces. Then she just has to bake the pies.

    Sansa shouldn't be punished for not telling Jon about the Vale Knights...I think it was uncharacteristically wise of her. She knows little finger is not to be trusted, he's treacherous. If Jon and Davos knew about him, they would have certainly made plans that counted on Little Finger's arrival to the battle...that would have given Little Finger the chance to stand them up and get Jon and the wildlings killed. As far as Sansa knows Peter has had more recent alliences with the Bolton's than the Stark's...he did get her father killed(I do know she's not aware of that tidbit)....Sanza was not about to put her last remaining family members life on the line for such a shaky relationship. Also...none has clocks....what if Peter came but showed up too late? they were coming from a long way away...she did seem to be trying to get Jon to hold off another day but it's unlikely Ramsey would've given them that opportunity. I realize I'm apparently the only GoT fan to take note of this but, it does make perfect sense to me. She doesn't know her other siblings are alive so she's not going to gamble with Jon's life and she knows he would gamble with his own life if he knew of Peter's involvement.

    • @kilmcm45
      @kilmcm45 8 років тому +4

      Dularr No way...as I said above...Jon doesn't know how dangerous Peter is. There's a good chance that if Peter knew Jon was relying on him...he may have not shown up after realizing that, if Jon won, he might get in the way of Peter's plans to have dominion over the North. Sansa is the only one familiar enough with how Peter operates.... she knows he's opportunistic. Also as far as Sansa knows, Peter has been more recently aligned with the Bolton's than the Starks....Just another reason to expect him to just happen to show up to late than go back to diplomacy with the Boltons. Jon's in a tough spot and primed to opt for a gamble a great opportunity for Peter to stand aside and let Ramsey wipe out his opposition to ruling the north.

      agreed 100%. If Jon knew the vale was coming, it would have given him more of an excuse to just depend on those forces. Without Sansa they would have been lost, and he was GOING to lose. Jon seems like a shit battle commander - he ran in to the trap, allowed his army to be surrounded... sure he's courageous, but he's a fkn idiot. At least Sansa knew that they needed more troops, If it wasn't for Sansa they'd all be dead. With Marg gone Sansa is now my fav character (and Olenna).

      I don't think that this is "obvious" though it is very likely that Sansa will do something that leads to Littlefinger's end. After all, she knows a great deal about his many crimes. I read the scene at the end as her understanding that Littlefinger would always be a threat as long as he was around. He was the one person not cheering Jon. However, others have read it as Sansa being tempted by the power and adoration that Jon was getting. I don't really buy this because I don't think that Sansa has shown any thirst for power. The only reason she would want power is to protect herself and getting power actually puts a target on your back, something she would understand.

      So hundreds and possibly more than thousand of people died because she didn't call all those knights right away. Heck with a bit of luck and some clever tactics they might even have been able to save one of the last Starks. Instead she nearly got everyone killed, including Jon (although he is clearly protected by plot armor but still). She deserves punishment, had she not been the last of her house she should probably be executed or at least stripped of all titles or banished.

    The object in the library that is not a candelabra is called an "armillary sphere " or "spherical astrolabe." it's a model of objects in the sky (in the celestial sphere), consisting of a spherical framework of rings, centered on the Earth or the Sun, representing lines of celestial longitude, latitude, the ecliptic, etc. It was used in the olden times to calculate phases of the moon, the positions and movement of planets, stars, etc.

  • @brownfriendgaming2242

    that funny spinning thing that's in the library and opening is called an "orrery". My girlfriend is watching this episode and I had to think for a second, but it definitely RESEMBLES an orrery. An orrery is typically a model of the solar system or a basic sun, moon, and earth, used for relative positioning. I'm not a huge GoT fan, but if you apply the idea of heavenly bodies to the houses, an orrery makes absolute sense when it comes to positioning and the motions. At least this is my theory.

    I agree with almost everything said in this video, but I have three points:
    1. That dress made Cersei look like a Disney villain. (I did not care for it)
    2. Sansa did not outright reject Little Finger, she is playing coy. This will only make him want her more.
    3. Jon was made King in the North in the show to remain consistent with the book. Remember that Robb created a new will and named Jon his successor before the Red Wedding.
    4. I think it is implied that Lord Frey ate a piece of that pie and was asking for seconds. ( Isn't a piece missing already?)
    I am surprised you don't like Sansa. Every other GoT youtube commentary I watch loves her and I don't get it.

      I thought that Cersei was definitely channeling Tywin in that outfit. It was very Commander-y. For that reason, I thought it was perfect and true to character. I agree with you about Sansa. I don't think she's dumb at all, she knows exactly what Littlefinger wants, I just think she wanted him to say it (and also so the viewers can hear him say it). I was a little surprised that he actually said he wanted the Iron Throne though. I thought he would just say "I want you". I think the reason he DIDN'T just say "I want you", is because he's aware that Sansa would see through his bullshit, so he may as well be honest. Or mostly honest anyway, this is Littlefinger after all.

      If those soldiers had been there, they would have had to charge to save Jon's ass. (Just like Sansa told him not to.) They would have ended up on that giant pile of bodies Ramsey made with the hail of arrows. The element of surprise meant whatever Ramsey was planning would fail. Bringing them late to the fight totally fucked up his whole plan. She had to keep it a secret, she knew Jon is subject to his honor. He's a great man, but a terrible General, hasn't won a battle yet. Sansa made the right call, it's fucked up, but the right call.

And Cersei completely ignoring Tommen, but making sure he was safe, while she took her vengeance is perfect charaterization for Cersei. She is like Tywin doing heinous things to preserve the family name/legacy while having no connection with their lives.

After tying him to the Elder Tree they would reveal they've been talking about all the shit he did(arranging the whole Stark vs Lannister feud through Lysa, murdering Jon Arryn, setting up Ned Stark etc.)and then treating him to the old Stark punishment for traitors:
    live disembowelment followed by decorating the Elder Tree with the traitor's entrails! Merry Christmas!

    • @matthewconlon2388
      @matthewconlon2388 8 років тому +15

      A direct fan to artist revenue stream would allow her to cut down on the amount of time she has to spend courting investors or chasing ad revenue. Do you like her audible commercials? Do you like seeing the ads for her Marvel show? Do you think her content might be better is she's less considered with keeping those investors happy? If you don't, then a way to fund her directly would give her more freedom in content development, more time for content development, and a higher quality of product with more diverse media incorporated (like more animation, screen shots or music bits for which she might have to pay for licensing).
      It's not charity. There are plenty of talented artists that are willing to give away their work because they've been fed a line of bullshit that "working for exposure is paying your dues."
      It's not. Creating art can be fun, but it's hard work, no different than teaching or jackhammering a hole in the street. Every hour you spend doing justifies a form of compensation. Providing fans (aka consumers) a means to compensate her for the work cannot be called charity.
      If you don't want to pay directly, you'll pay some other way. If you like the content and want it to get better, you can choose to buy the calendars or pay for the Epic Histories, or you can set up a patreon feed. If 2/3s of the people that watched this video set up $1 a month, she'd net about $8k a month. That's a lot of flexibility to create contests, t-shirts, and wave a middle finger at the industry she regularly criticizes. If you don't want to do any of that, you pay with your time as you sit through progressively more advertisements.
      But artists that actually produces content doesn't live on "charity."

It signals that she is done with the training. They didn't show that she learned the magic stuff but its possible that we can infer that she was exposed to it and learned enough to be labeled "no one", which I take as their way of saying she has completed training and is fully one of them.

Yet Jaime killed the Mad King Aerys because he threatened to "burn them in their homes, burn them in their beds." Cersei actually fucking committed the actions that Jaime condemned Aerys for.
    and secondly, it would be so like GRRM for it to be Jaime just because if Cersei is strangled to death, that means Jaime will do it with one hand. Which just feels like something GRRM would do haha.

      But was the valonqar prophecy even mentioned in the show at all? Unless they do the continuation of that flashback in season 7, Cersei won't be afraid of Jaime/Tyrion going after her. Right now (prophecy wise) she must be worried about the young and more beautiful "one" to cast her down a.k.a. Dany.

    I think during the whole episode months passed from beginning to end. That's how Arya travelled all the way. The Tyrell lady was already mourning and ready to fix an alliance with the Sand Snakes. You don't choose a queen in a weekend, surely there were gatherings of the remaining court members or nobles to "certify" her. Also, Jamie made all the trip down to Kings landing...
    All that time would have been enough for Danaerys to prepare her troops and the ships, go to Dorne, pick up Varys, talk with some Femmes Fatales and finally set sail on our scene of the last episode.
    The problem is that they didn't make these time leaps obvious in the show...

    Sansa, I see her more as she doesn't want this glory. She doesn't want the iron throne, she doesn't want to get married, she just wants to go home. And she only did these things to go home. I mean this girl was tortured by Joffrey, and Ramsey. She knows of Littlefinger's reputation, and she doesn't want it, she wants to go home, and try to reclaim some innocence that she had lost. Plus she saw him push Cat's sister out of the moon door because he only loved Cat, so I think she doesn't want to be in that position of Littlefinger has what he wants, so what's gonna happen to her. And this is the man who sold her to Ramsey Bolton. Again I think that she just wants to return to Winterfell after watching her world fall apart around her, watching three family members dying, and being tormented by Joffrey, and tortured by Ramsey. She didn't have an Aarya arc, where she learned to kill and survive, she was a hostage to the Lannisters. Is she stupid in some aspect?

    Orerry - Model of the solar system. That is what is in the opening of the show and in the library. In this case we don't know what the Westeros solar system looks lie, but the special effect guys seem to get it. If you look closely the library has all kinds of mirrors and beams of light moving through the assembly. This suggests that they use the orerry to track the seasons, and maybe this is how the maesters know when winter is here. It's a huge solar observatory like Stone Henge or other solar circles.

      Women who has royal blood come the last one in succession to Iron Throne , however Cersei doesn't have Targaryen or Baratheon blood in her. Robert himself became king not so much because he was fierce warrior, but because of Targaryen blood that was in him , he was cousin of Prince Rhaegar. John Arryn was brains behind the Rebellion and he actually started it, so he easily could've crowned himself if he wanted to ,but it's Robert who was closely related to Targaryens , there had some claim and became a symbol. There should be male relatives left who have some Baratheon blood or Targaryen. Either way if there is big problems with finding one , the Great Council of great lords is assembled , which decides who will become the next monarch. Show shitted on it and all logic of feudal society that is not in stage of absolute monarchy. What stops great lords from assembling an army and taking the crown right now, since apparently Cersei with no claim and who was important cause she was mother of king ( who is dead ) can crown herself ? Plus we all know who everyone there hates Lannisters.

She didn't know how high his political ambitions went and that's what she was asking about. Also, you accuse her of not knowing how to play the game. Keeping things coy and vague is exactly how you play. She didn't slam the door on him and she can still keep him as an option. Sansa pretty much tells Jon that she doesn't trust Littlefinger no matter what he says, even about her. That's plenty of recognition. That glare she gives him at the end is like "I've put an obstacle in your way that you were expecting and I dare you to outwit me in this." Will make for a good end to Littlefinger's story as I think Sansa will probably end up gutting him.

    I have a FanFic scene in my head where somebody(Tyrione maybe?)tells Jaimie that when they say Kingslayer they actually are thinking Childslayer and aren't thinking about the Mad King he killed but the wife and children of Prince Rhaegar who didn't protect from his father's killers.
    Also one of the few changes in the show from the books that I like is when Ned points out how cowardly and convenient it was for Jaimie to kill the Mad King when his father's troops were pouring into the city and there were no other men in the throne room. "Its not your act, its your timing. You killed him when it was safe."
    If Jaimie had gone all heroic and killed Aerys while Ned's father was burning and his brother was being strangled, he would be a heroic legend. A dead one, but a heroic legend!

There are most likely multiple days that pass from scene to scene. Martin says as much about the books, the timelines aren't all the same for each character in the books. By the time we get to the end of this episode, most likely months have passed from the time that Varys was in Mareen and when we see him on that boat standing behind Dany.
