    To be honest D&D didn't have to rush through A Storm of Swords A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons the way they did. They're replaced a bunch of good storylines with their own stupid bullshit and this show suffered because of it.

    Hey, CBG19! I wanted to thank you for doing the Patreon Revolution! My 11 year old daughter and I love watching you together. Because you did this she is now able to donate a small part of her allowance to become a patron! She's not a high donator by any means but she's totally excited she now gets all your bonus content. She thinks you're the "coooooolest". I as a mom want to thank you for showing my daughter it's "coooooool" to love comic books and be yourself. You've shown her it's okay to be different and I can never thank you enough for that! You've totally boosted her self confidence and encouraged her to pursue her interests, because let's be honest, Kids are fucking mean. Aaaaaand, now I'm done rambling on. My daughter told me to add to this...Dazzler Rules.

    Arya needs a bit of grit. It's weird that she's so capable, things go so well. Her revenge went so smoothly, she lost no fingers, she ended up without any scars. I think the action in the show works when things are portrayed as being messy and imperfect. The action with Brienne was much more interesting to me, as a result of how many failures she had to overcome in fulfilling her word to Lady Stark.

    • @PipkinXIV
      @PipkinXIV 7 років тому

      I can understand the sentiment, she's unreal. But I think her story's structure in the show made her seem too secretive, and that's why the story doesn't work there. I think you can make her story work in the show, she just needed more explanation. How she achieved her revenge, the faces she took on, scenes of Arya meeting her family's killers while she wore her glamour, that would have been great. Instead we saw too much of her training and then we jumped to the reveals of her efforts, the feeding. I like that there's a character whose work is so methodical and masterful but, cutting out that middle portion really doesn't work, for me. I think they were afraid we would have forgotten the players in the red wedding by now, and they didn't want to dedicate time to reminding us who they were. That's why they rolled it out that way, to hit the story beats they wanted to hit without slowing down for Arya's tale. And you can't tie up loose ends that way without disappointing your audience.

    • @ginge641
      @ginge641 6 років тому +1

      @Jake Skywalker Avengers was well written, for what it was, and the characters remained consistent throughout. Arya jumped the shark. Or the Stark, I should say.

    Someone running from the lake where Jon Snow and the other Crows were, to the wall , then sending a raven to below the Neck, and having Dani fly all the way up to that lake . . . in less than day . . . that's too much for me.

    • @amy-chan4398

      That is also another issue. The whole epissode was a collection of "convenient" stuff happening to force the plot.

    • @Toukon4ever
      @Toukon4ever 7 років тому +1

      My thing is that there are a number of ways to make that whole situation make more sense if each step is spaced out over several episodes. Instead of being stuck in the middle of a lake, extend the scenario across a larger region where the characters are still isolated, trapped in, surrounded, starving, etc. The whole thing can play out over a 1/3 of the whole season if you wanted to. BUT, I know we don't have time for that. The show is wrapping up. And I don't mind that things are moving quicker. We got 3 seasons worth of payoff this season compared to seasons past. At the old pace we would STILL be waiting for John to meet with Dany, we wouldn't be anywhere close to the summit meeting at King's Landing, and the white walkers would still be 4 seasons away from reaching the wall. So yeah, I can live with the loss of 3 seasons of pacing and content in exchange for 1 season with as many payoff moments and moving the narrative forward. It's not what I prefer but it's what we have left cause they're wrapping this ish up.

    • @sabinea.4532

      saar144 I know right? She is so amazing, I read In a review (and I totally agree) that she has the ability to give glimpses of humanity to Cersei and then switch back to being a horrible monster. When the writing wasn't that good I would still look foward to the Cersei scenes, to see what could possibly horrible thing could she do next. She really deserves the Emmy (shoulda have won it since season 4 tbh)

      Worldweaver True, if they don't have shields and spears or pikes; and if the horses don't have brains and will just charge at a massive formation of troops with no qualms.
      Cavalry is only effective when the line of troops has been broken. This can be achieved in multiple ways; dragon fire is a good, quick and easy solution for such an issue.

    Aunt-nephew incest shouldn't be an issue. There's plenty of 3rd degree incest in Westeros, just as there was in the middle ages. Tywin married his first-cousin, Rickard Stark married his aunt once removed, and there are many more like that. Westeros is all about "doing your duty" to your family.

    i thought D&D already confirmed that the ending of the show will be the one that Martin told them? You even included that clip in your video. Why would they ask George for the ending of the story if they didn't intend to use it? They also said during season 6, after "hold the door" twist, that they have one more big shocker from Martin himself and that it will happen by the end of the show. Probably that will be the twist that determines the ending. They said multiple times that they're just taking a different road to the same destination. So I say that the show will spoil the end of the books. Oh, and there was no info about season 8's premiere. That 2019 noise is bullshit so far. Possible though.

    • @davidvondoom2853
      @davidvondoom2853 7 років тому +14

      I think George will hold a lot back, for his books There needs to be a reason to read them, so there will still be a lot in the books, that we wont get in the show. Just like LotR didn't end with the One Ring being destroyed. It went on after that. The show will probably end with Night King being defeated, leaving us to read the books to find out what happens to every character afterwards.
      And frankly, I'd rather read George's take on the ending, than the show's take.

      I just think that having the same ending for 2 entirely different things, at this point, makes no sense. One of my biggest gripes has been the Lack of Dire Wolves. The Dire wolves are as important to the stark children as the dragons are to Daenerys. Ghost should never be far from Jon. One of the reasons the people of the North are in such awe of Jon's feats is his connection with such a powerful creature.

      Steel Xcaliber Those are dogs. Sansa's actress even adopted Sansa's dog :) I don't think they're just glued on there. The young direwolves were simply played by the dogs, when they are grown, they need to make the dogs look larger and more scary looking, not sure if they do it through a greenscreen or right there on the "film". Either way now it takes more work (although still probably a lot less than a dragon...).

    Arya - Sansa - Littlefinger play was purely for the watchers, not really for the GoT world. It was a typical TV twist which made it so bad, knowingly made it look like Arya is suddenly not capable using her abilities.

    • @memerick420
      @memerick420 7 років тому

      There is apparently a deleted scene where Sansa asks Bran what to do about Arya and he tells her about Littlefinger's scheme. So everything between Arya and Sansa was genuine.

    • @DagobertX2
      @DagobertX2 7 років тому +7

      That doesn't make the whole thing genuine. Arya single handed sneaked in, killed of all the Frey's, but then she doesn't see/sense LF hiding near and not just walking away from his room. She could fight blind but now suddenly lost her assassin abilities on a guy who she knows is very dangerous. Or that Arya and Sansa going neck on neck, Arya threatening/suggesting to kill(suddenly total psycho, not just a cold punisher) Sansa, her sister in a closed room with low voice, so it's not like they act like LF is at the door listening to their conversation. Then Sansa seeking help from LF, who killed her aunt, gave her away to some psycho, to a house who flays people, for basically no reason for Sansa. And if it's again just an act to get LF somewhere, like suggesting to her to kill Arya, why would be that the point where they think, ok, now he definitely should die?
      The whole stuff is full of plot holes. It shows they couldn't just handle it in time.

Sansa sending Brienne away after he starts to hint at using her...doesnt add up to me...seems like they had some issues they needed to sort and they knew what LF was doing...

    Hi comicbookgirl... since you started talking about your relationship with GoT, I feel like I what to tell you mine. When I saw the first 3 ep of season 1 I didn't really like it, cause I didn't understand it. However many of my friends were really into it. I knew it was good, but I couldn't help falling asleep while watching it. UNTIL I found your videos of the history behind all of this and the way you spoke about it made me really curious. Besides, thanks to you I finally understood everything, so I could enjoy the whole season till now. You also inspired me to read the books. Since then I've been watching some other of your videos. I really like the way you talk about what you read or watch, cause you get transported to those universes just like I do. Sometimes I don't agree with your opinions, but I understand why you think a certain way cause you explain i, so I respect them. Alothough, most of the time I do like your cristicisms or analysis of the movie, series, etc... Sometimes I also learn things, so it's fun.
    I also want to point out that you made a book club and I think that is awesome! I love to hear your opinions and reflect on the stories together with people. Specially if it is a good book. I haven't read DUNE yet. I discover your club when it was almost over. But I'll read it and I'll watch the videos too.
    So... I look forward to some more videos, thanks!

    I feel the rushed travel and ravens are due to the fact that there is only one more season and they're just trying to wrap things up. I agree that it goes against the established travel rules from early on, but this season really HAD to set things up for the finale. I accept the show as a good source of entertainment and have sort of separated them from the books (I know... I'm braced and ready for all the mean comments) because of various reasons. Get real. Martin is going to die before he finishes the last books. What we get in the series is going to be the end of it until some other author comes in and uses his notes to write it out to the end. It's basically Robert Jordan over again.

    NOTES~
    A. awesome outfit
    AA. havent mentioned it but love the set too
    AAA. love that your hair is getting a bit longer
    B. Robot is the man, brain is insightful
    1. thanks for pointing out the noticeable difference in writing. I think dialog especially took a hit. Its as if what was once multidimensional became squashed into very simplistic 'terms' (pun?).
    2. couldnt agree more that it is really solidifying social groups, specially IRL :) & appreciate whats going on the show!
    3. *magic number* just want to say thanks, nobody in my circle noticed the writing change (or they did but wont admit it)
    4. Havent been getting into dune group :( but i did read it a few years back. huge fan of the movie, and atm ive just about finished the audiobook, the audible version is BOSS.
    5. agree, aria... very 1 dimensional
    6. red haired pop star, had to be told who he was, found the performance good. Mastadon has a few really cool songs, check out sleeping giant or oblivion
    7. "old enuf to drink" not the only modern vernacular that has snuck into the new writing. rather disappointing.
    8 why'd none of the nobles mind when the hound went to just march over and have a private convo with the mountain in the middle of court?!
    9. shitty ending to little finger. fine ending but not for someone wwho has been built up.
    10. party on. Be excellent to each other. I really hope that rev is working. Thanks for everything, MORE MORE MORE XOXOXO!
    X1 Brienne + Toorum/ Jamie / pod - i predict toorum!
    X2 incest+love= ( surprisingly? only )" a little wierd"
    "Without change, something sleeps inside us, and seldom awakens. The sleeper must awaken."
    Hope you guys at team CBG19 are enjoying the season change, keep thy chins up, thou most excellent fadaykin warriors! have one for me ;)

  • @spaceunicorn
    @spaceunicorn 7 років тому +79

    That littlefinger trial scene was absolutely terrible writing, he acted completely out of character by admitting to murder in the show's attempt to force the viewers into thinking Sansa had evolved into a great schemer. I can't get the thought out of my head that Littlefinger could have just said when accused of murder "Hey Sansa, didn't you testify to the lords of the Vale (who are in this room right now) that you saw her fell? You were in tears recalling it" Lords: "Hmm that's right" Sansa: "You made me lie!" Littlefinger: "So you are saying you conspired to murder your aunt? You either lied to them then or you are lying now, either way, you have shown yourself to be completely untrustworthy" Boom trial over. What else was there? Bran saying stuff happened when he wasn't there in person? Come on. The show can be enjoyable if you turn off your brain and enjoy the action but the lack of consistent characterization and a betrayal of the show's own internal logic to force the story can really make your brain start collapsing on itself

    budget restrictions was the reason there was no direwolves this season. dragons aren't cheap and that polar bear really stretched it
    the plot in winter fell was so meh especially the trial but there was deleted scenes where bran explains what happened
    bran was so annoying this season .

    I think the best thing about these new seasons is that it's making me look forward to the BOOKS even more! That's not what I was expecting at all, I thought I would resent getting everything spoiled, but now it's a very interesting writing exercise. I want to see how a smart, experienced writer handles this as opposed to rushed, fan service writers. It'll be fascinating to compare the two. Although the worst thing would be if George dies before the books are completed and all we're left with is the inferior version of the ending to his story.
    And shout-out to Tyson for being able to handle playing two distinct characters while directing and running the technical aspects of the show. Very impressive, they've got that shit down to a science now, not sure how they deal with that on set. Really like how 19 turns from side to side to address the characters' eyelines correctly as well. Great job!

    Thanks so much for your insight CBG. I have to agree about Sam's miraculous cure: they had a comment either in the books or on the show about how ground up dragonglass is a possible cure, and that's all they needed to do. This idea that peeling it off is ridiculous - it would have been tried dozens of times if it was that easy.
    The time travel/suspension of time laws is pretty goofy; I get it in terms of expediency, but building a massive fleet in two weeks (when you have no trees) was aggravating.
    Arya is awesome, and her tenuous nature is a great unknown. I thought her willingness to reveal her skills to joust with Brienne was a nice reveal of her immaturity.
    I was thinking that the "ice dragon" was breathing an explosive energy that has the ability to destoy/overcome magic.

    I was disappointed by Petyr Baelish's story. Not because he died but because of how anticlimactic and unearned everything was. The evil genius was defeated by fucking Sansa, who's spent every episode doing what other people tell her to do. Arya (and also Bran) just seemed to be weird and unusually unapproachable for no reason, so this whole selling of that conflict that went on the entire season was something I never bought into and everything falls apart. Littlefinger is out of plans, he's just content to hang around Winterfell causing not distrust between sisters because somehow that will make him the king or whatever. Also, Bran's convenient awareness of everything somehow doesn't become relevant until the last episode. And despite no one knowing what the fuck a Three-Eyed Raven does or is, everyone just accepts it at face value without question. The Starks are lucky they don't have lawyers in Westeros.

Pushes Lysa to her death and counts on a 14 year old to back him up? Sells said 14 year old. Sets up conflict between the Stark girls. He's just constantly rebooting and hoping he can dance enough to come out on top.

      @LungsOutJem 7 років тому +1

      This may be a bit off topic, but I'm going to have to argue about Rey being used as an example of a Mary Sue. The Mary Sue concept is about a character who is written as the first, youngest, and best at everything. Rey, like Luke, was a bit of a loser, a kid just getting by. When her power was finally unlocked, like Luke, she took to it well, but she wasn't the best, certainly not the first, and far from the youngest. I respect the argument that her skill came across unearned (though I disagree), but that's far from the concept set forth in the stories of Lt. Mary Sue.

    The kinds of flame one would need for the dragon to be, would have to be just over 100 degrees celsius. Compared to the normal dragon fire in the show, their fire burns in the 1000s. So Which would have been enough heat to just cause the wall to evaporate. So I would think, that with just how much force a dragon's fire spews out, that with a blue flame, which comes around the 1600+ degrees Celsius(which would cause it to go more violet if it were hotter). That amount of heat and with the force behind the firing of the flame, it would literally cut straight through the wall and any water would instantly be evaporated. No chance to melt.

    Surprised you can do as much as half an hour on this season. It's just telly now. Lots of money on screen, everyone involved is competent so it's still watchable, but... eh. I find it weird that we have to regularly 'rediscover' that TV tropes don't reflect our real animal nature. Our minds shouldn't be blown by Martin's stories - he's just writing about humans. Why are we scared to talk honestly about humans?
