You and the old seadog are by far the best youtube sailing channels. This is because you are both very honest in showing your feelings together with your adventures. I have to say, in the way you handle adversity but more generaly your attitude you life, you are truly an inspiration to to me!!
When tryng to teach girls to go to sea, I always share you with them with glee. I've seen many vlogs of fancier yachts, but never such passion to get an extra point 3 knots. From gimbles to gambles and exhaust pipes that crack, we here all have faith Holly will make the right tact. Who needs an engine? Let's see what luck brings. And as wind fills your sails 1,000 hearts sing.
I saw you on Barry's channel and came over and watched your last video where you sewed the sail up and was impressed with your sewing. Now I am really impressed since I've seen your mechanical skills. You rock!
Loved watching this. It's great that you do all your own maintenance jobs, so satisfying. And hilarious to see you both towing the boat. Love that you're so real and genuine and honest. I just found your channel via your awesome YARN with Sailor James, and he has such an inspirational story from when he first bought the lovely Triteia. So two great sailing channels to watch. Thanks Holly for just being you, and your videoa are really terrific. Take care.
Your content is so much better than any other biopic sailing channel. Super impressive. You're a good role model for my daughters (well, maybe skip some of the swears, lol).
I love how chill you are about serious engine issues. Most would lose their minds but you just stay calm, laugh, and find a solution. I have seen grown men in near tears because their engine would not start at the dock - with no idea how to bleed a diesel....Holly you rock and are a huge inspiration to all of us. Fair winds!
I was a little scared for her flapping those fins around in the water like that. I'd be scared of attracting sharks. But what a funny story to tell, how you had no engine or wind so you jumped in and started swimming your boat to New Zealand!
10:19 what a great Dad and sister🎉 I know you understand that your Family support is incredible, keeping up the videos, you are the Best UA-cam Channel anywhere 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you, Holly. As always you are an inspiration! Seeing your outro on dry land I know you arrived alive. And William is Spot On as far as your day (and whole family) goes - give them all a hug when you see them next and thank them, for me, for supporting you so well. And for raising such an inspirational adventurer of a daughter.
Great episode. Watched it twice. Shame the shop didn't have a clue about how exhaust manifolds work. If you had more time you could have put a U-piece on the pipe pointing down as a temporary fix. Loved the fun game of seeing who could tow the boat the fastest! Love Queenstown, amazing views from the top of the ski lift.
I never comment but felt inclined. Great videos. You make it seem so obtainable. You are a great inspiration. I am trying to do the same thing as you and feel I can do it without having to have a trust fund. Love your patience and sweat equity. I get you a little more after seeing how much love and thought your father put into the directions and prep work. Seems like a wonderful and caring family. Keep the content coming.
I've just spent 2 days upside down and contorted in all kinds of ways sorting my little yanmar out. Overhauling the raw water system etc. I can relate to the troll hole 😂.
Hvac tape. The metal kind. Adhere it with some steel stick for extra hold. It'll last a few hundred hours, then, wrap it again. Diesels like to have breathing room, so you could literally use any heat-safe apparatus (hose, duct, etc) to route exhaust. As for the water discharge from the heat exchanger you likely have, keep a pump running. Stay close to land.
Exhaust elbow issues, I had same problem it blocked but didn't break so slowly motor got weaker and smokier until eventually it just wouldn't work it took months and months of struggle to even find the problem at least I am in NZ so once found problem was easily and cheaply fixed. So anyone watching with a diesel inboard remember to check exhaust elbow first :)
If you're still in that part of NZ, it's worth the drive up to Paradise - about 15km past Glenorchy, at the opposite end of lake Wakatipu from the tourist hell hole otherwise known as Queenstown. Go maybe half a mile past the big green Paradise sign, through the wooden gates on the left - looks like a private driveway heading up the hill.
I once helped a fellow sailor to sail his classic yacht back from south Wales to Bristol harbour with a engine that had a cooling system fault with me pumping manually the engine coolant outflow through the washbasin in the main cabin
They mentioned you on parlay revival. I commented on their video that I believe you may be the best sailor on youtube but you will have competition if sierra from delos becomes a sailor someday.
I use keel cooling and a dry exhaust A little noisier, but better fuel economy and the outlet has to exit through the deck in a screened pipe (prevents burns) such as a tubular dinghy davit or awning Samson post
Hi,rather than buy a new exhaust piece you could have the raw water connection moved to the top and weld up the place where it has been.It will also make fitting the water pipe easier.Cheers Roly🇬🇧.
I can’t wait to see what impact the cyclone has had on your journey. Hopefully, you found a way to avoid the bad stuff. Northern New Zealand unfortunately did not fair well.
I found you by chance. And I really loved, how you explained and showed things in the engine room as well as the challenges, inclusive not being able, to bring the engine back to live. I must congrat you, since there are soooooo many Video Bloggers out there, overdoing things in such a way, that nothing is TRUTHFULL but lied, staged and decorated with vsry stupid nudity and false but very dangerous behavior.
Hi Holly ,, Hope you can get your problems sorted out soon ,, and hope you can afford to visit Aussie , other sailors said Aussie was the most expensive in the world to visit but if you are still having problems when you get to Rockhampton we can get them fixed,
Very glad that you sent us the later updates from NZ so we know you did actually get there. Bravely sailing off without and engine is very courageous, but...

I used hydraulic hoses as a replacement for my raw water hoses. It worked but they are rather stiff to fit so changed them for the real thing when I could.
This might be the wrong answer, but I would have checked out and then used as much time as I needed to fix the engine. If anybody asked I would have explained it was an emergency or didn't have the weather window without the engine. I seriously doubt they would be deporting you on a plane. Maybe a fine.
WEsail had the exact same prob in their latest vid. Luckily Warren had a spare part... AND being a CAT, still had another engine, which he then also gave some TLC. Actually, his exhaust manifold didn't break. It was entirely plugged with carbon.
I can't believe that you jumped in the ocean and started swimming in order to move your boat... INSANE!!! Your strength and guile is amazing. I wonder why you didn't launch the dinghy and row, as in Master and Commander... ???
You could have bonded the old parts together with cement (as in concrete) and fibre glass (many layers with cement and water slurry) in a desperate situation. There is a muffler plugging compound which I think is a kind of ceramic cement. The most important Kiwi words to get right are fersh and cherps with lips pursed, and you won’t go hungry. Great Kiwi vegetarian food, try the Carrot Cake, its great.
You are a bad ass hard worker I love it! Thanks for sharing your vids. I am refinishing a camper right now and I love listening to these while I work, keep it up!
@Wind-Hippie-Sailing Awesome channel. I've been watching your channel and various others for a good while now. Interested in purchasing a used sailboat and wanted to know in your opinion if buying off eBay would be to risky? Craigslist and I was even thinking the vast marinas here in southern California would provide ample options. Anyway love the channel. Keep up the great work and stay safe. Joe CA
I have done the fix the old inboard engine thing a few times. I found it both very annoying and quite dangerous to not have a reliable engine on my 24 foot sailboat. Also fixing the inboard allways costs an insane amount of mony. My solution was to mount an engine bracket on the stern and put a BRAND new 6 hp Mercury fourstroke outboard engine on it. So now I have a brand new and totally reliable engine and it cost me 1000$. When it becomes too unreliable for me, I will sell it and get a brand new one for half price ;-) Best of all, I got a lot more usable storage space when I ripped out the old inboard engine.
Congrats on your nomination for Best You Tube sailing channel....very deserving
She was a close second place from what Colin said on Parlay. Way to go, Holly. 👍😊
@Tom Williams He didn't know who Wind Hippie Sailing was though

Well done Holly on leaving without an engine. You’ve both got a lot of bottle as we say in England. Keep them videos coming.
