It is the funny thing about sailing, that at first you might struggle with the movement, sickness, the work involved. But then that becomes the joyous part of sailing; the movement becomes calming, the work becomes rewarding, and getting off the boat becomes harder and harder.

Lovely small cruising boat. I lived part-time on a hand-built 37-foot gaff rigged schooner in the early 2000s on the coast of British Columbia. Wonderful way to live and travel.
Wonderful story, I’m sure a lot of people can relate. I purchased an old wooden boat after my divorce and restored it. It helped me get through a very tough period. Flash forward 25 years and I still have the amazing restored boat. Many happy memories. Good luck in your journey 😊
I could see myself in a similar situation in the future. How long did it take you to restore the boat? And how much time have you spent over the past 25 years keeping it in its restored condition? I've been fascinated by old wood sailing yachts since I was a little kid but have heard it's basically a full-time job keeping them maintained.
There is nothing better than the boat life. I have lived 7 years in my 44-foot sailboat, north of the polar circle, Bodø and Tromsø in northern Norway .The winters uo here can be harsh, with 2 meters of snow and fierce winter storms. But wouldn't be without it
I didn't think you could live up there on a sailboat. Do you have to have a bubbler or something to keep the water open in winter? Living on a sailboat was a dream of mine - and doing it in Norway where my mom came from would have been pretty amazing!
@@janinafisher101 The boat was frozen in the harbor for several weeks during winter. But the boat doesn't seem to take any damage from it. It is important to keep + degrees inside the boat and especially around hull penetrations / hoses.
When I lived aboard in Alaska, I only got frozen in once. It took several hours to get chipped out and use my hairdryer. No biggie, but I had to get to work!

Your boat is nice and cosy. You are an uplifting person and wish you all the best for your mental health. The ambient mood of sitting in your boat as the water slowly rocks and the calming peace.
Waves yes!! Wires…. That gets old and annoying. Your neighbors might use plastic bags to tie your halyards off the mast when you are gone to prove a point. Just sayin. But yes, chillin and sleeping and living on a boat is a good way to live. Especially in San Diego.
I was on a Minesweeper with the US Navy. It took us longer to get across the Atlantic then it took you. We were 179 ft long, made out of wood. Great experience. Always slept well hearing the waves against the hull. Cheers.

IMHO you are doing the right thing. I built my boat in the 90’s here in San Diego. Launched in 2000 and she has been my home ever since. I’m on a mooring near the Star of India downtown. My plan is to sail a lot locally this summer and head south in November. I’ll make my way north to Puerto Penasco in the spring and leave her on the hard during the hurricane season. You do a great job of describing the lifestyle.
Sailing is therapeutic for me, I know that for sure. Just have a dinghy but it still brings me great joy and peace. Forget day to day worries and chase the breeze. What a way to live. Be safe on your travels.
for$1k you did well . less is more especially with boats . i had a 62 foot classic Italian yacht and as much as i loved her became overwhelming. i have a 34 foot boat now and it’s better all round. but as all yachts there is always a cost .

I thought about a boat tiny home when I started but it was out of my budget. I think it will be something I build soon enough.
