Holly - you're incredible! As a retired heavy duty mechanic, I'm impressed with your determination and skill at improvisation! That is the true hallmark of survival! Way to go - there's nothing you can't do.😀👍
I have watched your vids for a couple of years now, i dont remember commenting before although i always leave a like.
However, i am compelled to write. You are a very VERY remarkable lady i cant tell you how impressed i am having done the exact same job myself last year.
Absolutely the purest example of determination and never giving in.
😊
Thank you so much!:)
I'm impressed. Not an easy project, even whrm everything goes perfectly. And in a boat it's harder. Nice job!
The collab I have always wanted, James and Holly.
She's a real Seaman!
James is a panicky little harbour loving girlyboy who's sailed about 6 tacks on the ocean in his life.
😋
Once again, i am so impressed by you. A true adventurer.
Nice to see you getting down to the business of maintenance. Impressive the amount of work you personally contributed to such a challenging project.
I love the sound of a Bukh DV10, one of the best marine engines ever made
Such a solid little nugget
Holly AND James?! My two favorite channels. Really cool seeing you both in the video. Made me smile. 😊
My two hero's Wind Hippie Holly and James.. you are flippin amazing - well done.. sail well..
I'm impressed by them both.....cut from the same cloth.
I am BEYOND impressed! I grew up around cars, worked rebuilding engines and retired as a machinist. What you accomplished is amazing!
Sailor James and wind Hippie. My two favorite solo sailors!
Thank you Holly, for making my Monday feel a little less like a Monday.
Holly, you continue to amaze me! Your positive attitude, grit, and skills are inspirational! Get it, girl! :)
My Hero. I am a 63 years old sailor girl and I am soooooo proud of you! I do not know half of what you do! WoW! You should know that I am moving forward with my plans to sail because of you. I feel like I can do it because of you. THANKS SO MUCH you have changed my life.
Praise the troll hole!
@@Ramenscooter The hole troll????
@@davidamburgey9398 the whole troll in the troll hole?
Yeah girl!! I'm so happy that you're out there doing it :)
“Figuring stuff as we go”… when we are lucky that is what we all do. You did great
"The red bastard", I love it! I think I'd have to train as a contorsionist to work in that engine room! You're certainly not afraid to get your hands dirty working on your boat. Mighty impressed!
Needing to twist in behind the engine is always a nice reminder to do my morning yoga haha
Your control of all the situations you have endured in the last several video's is amazing and as a viewer I could feel the emotion and strength you presented in overcoming them. Fair Winds and Following Seas
@WindHippieSailing_on_TeIegram ?
Go the "Red Bastard", hopefully a trouble free asset for the rest of the trip
Oh wow, I love when the cool channels cross-over each other! I've been following James on Sailing Triteia for some time and it was cool to see that he made it to New Zealand. It's also great to see how friendly the folks in the marina were. Great job captain!
New Zealand is such a friendly country! And yeah it was so fun meeting up with James
More adventures in the troll hole, this time with a umbrella☔ Amazing job you did on the engine, amazed at your resilience, go holly!
Or a clever advertisement. A deceived audience is a disenchanted audience.
Big smile when your engine started 😅. You are an inspiration to all of us starting our journey
Holly, I commend you on everything that you do. Tackling everything as you do with almost no knowledge. Good on ya!
Best of luck. Looking forward to more episodes. Thank you.
Hi,
Well done. I've been critical before of some of the risks you have taken. However, hats off to you for getting this sorted and doing such a competent job. Hopefully this engine will do you for many happy and safe miles.
So good to see.
So cool that you and James from Tritea are friends. His channel is one of my all time favorites… as is yours (of course).
Incredibly impressed Holly. You are a natural mechanical/electrical engineer! Well done!
Many years ago i read a book called The Dove by Robin Graham. I'm 68 now 46 years out of the Marines. Was on an LPH Okinawa. West Pacific cruise. Love the islands in zhat area. Also enjoyed time aboard ship. You Dear young Lady are living Your Dream. Keep going strong. And as Jimmy Buffett would say Fair Sailing to you.
Just came across your channel. I love it. The Bukh engines are a fantastic little engine. It will give you decades of service.
I remember following all this on your IG stories and just being amazed at you getting stuck in there. It's a hell of an achievement.
When I have a problem on my boat I start to get worried and concerned, but you take it so well and deal with it as it is just another day in the neighborhood. you are amazing and supergirl,... Cheers.
Having installed 2 engines myself.I admire your approach to what is a tenuous task.
I am impressed by the language skills and the ability to articulate the procedure of engine removal so well, You are not a novice when it comes to mechanical work, kudos to you for a job well done. A side comment, I purchased my Catalina 27 in Dana point California and had a wonderful time being around the sailing culture. I loved it
Bloody amazing you are.
That dirty, oily, not so rusty, shaking, awkward, knuckle busting, greasey Red Bastard better keep performing after all that effort and fortitude!!! Holly, you are not only a singer, musician, chef supreme, dancer, author, film-maker, sailor, hair-guru, comedian, sail-stitcher, mechanic and so much that I have forgotten, you are truly the ultimate “Girl Friday”! Happy days forever, SkipRay, Kerry, Ireland. (And it is knarley and raining here!)
Holly, your a LEGEND! Unbelievable, you not only do your Homework, your the teacher in this class. Truly phenomenal, your a CLASS ACT.
Both very competent yachts people. Follow the winds and your ❤
That's a lot of work! So glad to see you complete it successfully. Hope it holds up well.
64 year old Brit here ,followed quite a few of your vids , love your take on life and determination to succeed, brilliant
Holly, you are a CLASS ACT.
I loved the umbrella.
Woo Hoo! Holly has an ENGINE... now if we only had a functional key/lock!
As a licenced aircraft mechanic and a guy who has repaired old things..I get a kick out of watching you work on your engine. The way you named it made me chuckle. :)
Haha yes it's always important to name things like this
@@WindHippieSailing
I didnt want to post this for everyone to see but if you have left wires flopping around eventually they will break wherever they are fastened to something. Same with fuel lines. There are best practices that should be followed to prevent dangerous failures and sometimes amatures doing their own work may not see a potential problem. Sometimes its good to have a REAL mechanic take a look at your work and make sure its safe. Or maybe face time your father and let him look things over.
I think you are awesome but im a dad too and wouldnt want you to have a dangerous situation develope..:)
Glad you got your new engine. Very cool to see James jump in to help.
Your channel and videos are so real and fun to watch! Happy sailing!! 😄
Such a sailor, “The Red Bastard” 😂😂
Moving all the grease from the engine bay to Holly ... well done 🙂.
Kia ora Holly, I spent many "fun" hours working on my BUKH 20... fantastic little work horse that had done over 10000 hours.. I lost my yacht a month ago... rolled and dismasted out from Napier in a southerly storm that just kept on getting stronger with huge swells... the BUKH 20 had run till the last.. mine was named Angus... great work.. cheers, Alex
100% all in - and with Danish DV10 , Down under - as ever top marks, you just get right into whatever comes up. Amazing strength
10 out of 10 for having a go at doing most of it for yourself.
You rock! Hopefully no more engine drama for awhile. Your attitude and determination are always inspiring. Thanks for sharing!
It was great to see James from SV Triteia helping you! I looked away from the video but recognized his voice instantly. What a pleasant surprise. Happy sailing. FWFS.
Yeah it was so nice of him to swing by and lend a hand. We definitely had a lot to chat about
New to channel and loving it! You're very DETERMINED and seem willing to take on any challenge! Any young ladies just starting an adult life I would strongly suggest you use this young lady as an example of WOMEN CAN DO.ANYTHING A MAN CAN DO ( except peeing standing up, lol ) so don't let anyone tell you any different. I raised two wonderful daughters
All true but what cancels out the peeing stood up thing is that girls never miss the bowl.
😁👍🍻
Holly this is the real thing and a great great watch.
Haha. Strings on wrenches, parts etc. That's what we used to do in the USCG at Air Station Sangley Pt., Philippines, to change engines on HU-16 Grumman Albatrosses over the water. Those were the days!
Good job. BUKH is a very solid engine.. I´ve had a couple my self, and they never failed. Like your boat, it´s made here in Denmark. You were lucky to find one on the other side of the world. Have a nice trip.
The red Bastard!😂
You deserve 100K➕️ more views. Even when you feel bad, you keep chugging along. Congrats on the new working engine. While I'm not fond of the name you chose a more endearing name may serve your better/longer. Karma is fickle. Thanks to everyone who had a hand/part in the project. 👏
The "red bastard"...I love it!
HI HOLLIE, OR IS IT HOLLY? I JUST CAME ACROSS YOUR CHANNEL BY ACCIDENT AND I LOVE IT....I'M AN OLD HIPPIE AND I LOVE SEEING SUCH A YOUNG AND TALENTED ADVENTUROUS HIPPIE. ENJOY THE JOURNEY!
I have been really enjoying your videos for some time. Your engine change out was especially interesting, especially having done the same thing myself. I was concerned how you were going to align the engine as those mounts did not appear to be adjustable. I am sure you got it done anyway. What is most imprerssive to me is your ingenuity along with your attitude which seems to remain cailm in pretty much all diversity which arises for you. Quite impressive!
Since it was the same engine model that my old one was, I wasn't too worried about getting it lined up. Luckily it didn't prove to be too difficult
Wow, way to go, pulling an engine is kinda fun once you get the hang of it! I did one once, not as difficult as yours though, you continue to impress!
Well done Holly saw your collab with the Old Sea Dog. Love the way you can still raise a smile in the face of some quite challenging problems in foreign lands miles from home and help from friends and family.
Wanderlust.
8:55. Nice!
And oh oh oh! That little tape-hat trick on the bolt head is AWESOME and will probably get used on my boat once per week. Thank you!
I admire you so much. I wonder if you ever get scared on the wide open ocean and how do you cope with fear? Your boat is so small and your so confident, nothing but respect!
Good to see that the engine shouldn't break down as much. Get going on the rest of your journey. Fair winds ahead.
SO glad you got the new engine, one that you can count on!
Holly. You are one remarkable young woman. I wish my daughters had half your grit and determination.
Awesome video girl!!! Great job on the engine swap!!!
I started to chuckle when you named the Engine, the Red Bastard. That string trick with the mounting bolts was ok. Liked the video, not too many women take out a boat engine, well done.
One word Holly “legend” you are inspiring. Stay safe.
James is looking positively dapper!
Very happy you got kiwi help with the engine since they have a really genuine view of boating yachting and motoring in boats. Hope this boat motor gives you very sound service Holly hippie. You're a proper sailor having made it all the way here.
Really awesome work Holly, so good to have some help. What an accomplished person you are.
Ya lucked out having James there. Been watching his journey, n he's a "get er done" type. Always has a way of getting the job done.
Continued admiration for your bravery and skill!
Hi Holly,
Confused as to why you don't have 1M+ subscribers?
Thank-you - and your family 🙂
Neat that you and @SailorJames crossed paths in the South Pacific...enjoy both of your channels!
I just ran into you from watching the old sea dog. I follow I'm for about a year. I am an 87 yr old retired person in Indianapolis Indiana. I enjoy these experiences through these sea travels watching .
You are my hero. You re-powered your boat for $1,000 +/-. Amazing job. Good work.
Wow! Thats impressive work!! Congratulations! I love your channel!
Well done, looks like you had some great help. Great to see James. All the best !
Impressive work. I suppose having a single cylinder engine made it slightly easier. Nice to see how helpful everyone was.
Holly you are amazing. i believe you could fix anything.
What a top chap Keith is, you're very lucky to have met him.
Bolts go in from the top so if the nut comes off the engine stays in the same place. The thing you call the foot is an engine mount.
I’m glad someone else mentioned this I was about to, but I thought I should check the comments first 👍🏻
You are my hero! I love that you are not afraid to tackle any project!! I’m currently working on multiple projects on my boat. This season I’ve replaced the old water heater and toilet; swapped out the original 51 amp alternator for a leece-neville 90 amp in preparation for adding solar and a house battery bank. This weekend I’m starting plumbing line replacement and addition of a Whale Gulley IC 12v shower waste pump kit. Keep up the great work!
Wow mate, you continue to impress, I don't know that anything can shake you!
labels, photographs and drawings are SO professional! :)
I can't explain how impressed I am with your "can do" attitude. Like they say, "Showing up for the work is the hardest part." Impressive. You are gaining worlds of experience with this tiny boat. I wish you the best from San Francisco Bay.
You are so awesome!
I was hoping that you’d learn that trick for bringing the bolts up through the frame for the engine mounts and you did! That actually is a tool used for various frame attachments. It’s a spring (around the bolt) with a long end that you snake through the frame. But you invented it by your own “resourcefulness”! And doesn’t that new engine sound sweet!!! I am so happy to be a small part of your adventure. PS Key? We don’t need no stinkin’ key! I can’t wait for your next adventure!
Oh sh... oh dear! :D Well done, nice job! I did not have your patience with the Bukh and kicked it out. An E-motor is living in its place now.
Replacing engine was a great idea!
Very smart!
You are definately "tool people" qualified!
Safer travels now.
Thread trick was GENIUS!
Woooo🎉 get it girl.
Little tip if you have to do the engine mount bolts again , weld a short length of flat or round bar to the head of the bolt, paint it with galv paint. It will be easier to instal and when you tighten up the nuts the bolt tang will lock against the inside of the channel, also easier to remove if necessary.
incredible manifestation on the engine!! and all those angels! So cool and love the name. U r an inspiration!! Love, Love, love!!
Great work Holly, you really are amazing
G'day HOLLY HUGE HUGS from Tasmania -OMG it's so nice to see all my sailors helping each other, haha funny, YT, off to watch James now..
Thanks Tish!
Same happened to me. Raw water backed up the exhaust in a storm. The entire was turning over, but not starting, after 2 weeks, wouldn't turn over at all. Something you can do is called "pickling" where you can flush it with fresh water and keep it turning over and this will wash the raw water out. But not after it is locked up, of course. So cool seeing you doing all this yourself.
These simple engines are great! I have a Bukh DV10 on my boat. It is 43 years old and sill running. Love to see yours bringing you that far! Hopefully the "new" one will bring you where ever you want to.
Greets from northern Germany, i'll stay tuned!
Congratulations Holly that's a huge effort. And having a reliable engine will make you much happier when entering new anchorages. Jolly well done.
You are the real Wonder women , what ever problem come up you solve it , getting the engine installed looked a real pig of a job . totally in awe of you .
