This is actually my dream car and I hope to own it one day. It's sad that everyone wants SUVs and two door sports cars are pretty much dead. Because there are great options like this and some others. In the future if I have enough money I'll definitely be someone who buys it.
Its just sad that everyone buys generic suv #49 nowadays making all the awesome and daring cars not worth it to produce for the most part. I don't even watch his(or anyones) vids on them anymore. Just boring.
Hi Doug, just wanted to let you know that all the LC500 convertible vehicles we've had are still selling pretty hot and they do not last in our showroom for more than a week at our dealership. We even have 3 on order so this shows there is definitely demand for this type of car.
I just bought a 2018 for 70k. I absolutely love the car. It’s like butter. I previously owned an S 63 and this car fits like a glove. A much greater visceral experience due largely to the exhaust note.
I mean this car in 2008 would've been $82k in 1998 that goes down to $63k which means that this car is more than affordable for what is being offered. I mean in 2008 a Toyota Land Cruiser went for $80k brand new. People just don't take into account inflation when they think of new car prices (especially considering all the new tech that is in cars today). I mean granted this is all information that is valid prior to the economy falling apart since nobody is buying any cars and prices should come down across the car industry but still.
The problem with the LC500 is that very few people get to experience it. It's a great cruiser and not a sports car despite its appearance. It's right up there with Merc SL without reliability issues years down the road.
If I had the money I'd buy this one in a heartbeat. I love the look. The interior is by far the best I've seen in a long time, especially in the beautiful tan. I can forgive the finicky info-tainment system as I wouldn't be using it much because of the glorious exhaust sound. It deserves higher scores than Doug gave it. I hope to be able to afford it some day. Thanks.
I couldn't have said it better myself. This car is beautiful. The only downside is that I don't like the big Lexus grille but it doesn't look to bad on this car.
I love Doug but he cares more about infotainment systems than he does about engines or transmissions. If he doesn't like the infotainment system the car won't get a good dougscore.
Hi Doug, I bought one and I love it. Coming off two Audi S5s this is a nice step above. Funny, my GF who is not a car person pointed out the same issues with the brake lights. A great CA car. Lexus have never actually made a car true to this segment though, like a Toyota GT 86 or Subaru Brz they're just ricer cars as stock. No actual speed or street cred just look like they should be fast, a ricer as stock. The 1980's Supra Celica or Celica would turn in their graves, yeh they've made a new Supra as good as the 90's one but with help from BMW. I'm 39 and remember when Japanese car manufacturers actually made good cars of this segment, there was probably more Supra Celica's, Celica's, Supra's and MR2's on the road in the UK than Corolla's and Camry's in the 80's early 90's. While I know the "mouse pad" is somewhat inconvenient, especially compared to a "touch screen", if you turn the mouse pointer down to "slow" it makes it much easier to use, no over shooting anymore. The one advantage of the mouse pad vs touch screen is "no finger prints" all across the screen detracting from it and being forced to constantly "wipe" the screen all the time. I bought a Lexus RC F with the mouse pad and honestly, I've gotten so use it, I prefer it. No having to "reach out" all the way to the screen while driving. My right arm is in a comfortable position on the center arm rest and my finger naturally falls right to the mouse pad. Get use to it, and you'll find it's "not that bad" like so many "one time reviewers" make it out to be.
My first thought was Japanese Aston Martin, but the red over tan helps your point a lot. Either way, it's got great proportions with distinctly Japanese details, which is makes it very cool to my eye.

Once I finally had a decent amount of money to start buying cars... I realized that Toyota and Lexus are the only real way to go for me. The least expensive to fix, and the most reliable. I became brand loyal almost overnight.
Agreed. Im pro Asain vehicles, but more Specifically anything TOYOTA. I refuse to own anything american or european.I work at a volkswagen dealership, and we work on everything from chryslers,to Benz'. I gotta say,the quality of those brands is just not in the same ballpark as say a Honda. Brand new Chargers have issues with their doorskins folding when you use the windows enough, and brand new VWs keep coming back with battery issues. Meanwhile,I happily drive a 94 Celica, that still turns over with no issue. lol
Personally though I'd buy high-end Toyotas until Lexus sorts out the infotainment. I've tried it in real life, it's even worse than Doug says, because the LC has the most up-to-date version. The other Lexuses have even worse versions. Toyota has much more usable, better-looking tech. And the interior gap between Lexus and high-end Toyota isn't that big. When you buy an Avalon instead of an ES, or a Highlander instead of an RX, you're getting just a little bit more leather, but what little more leather you get is still nice soft-touch plastic in the Toyota. The Limited/Platinum Toyota is so close to the Lexus that Toyota's better tech bridges the gap IMO, Toyota interiors have come a long way in the past 5 years. Lexus is planning to fix that though: Lexus has known for a long time their tech is terrible and they want to fix it. They're very aware that a 2007 LS has a better infotainment than a 2020, and they're not proud of it, but they threw so much money at the failed mousepad system 10 years ago that they had to get their investment back first. They were stuck with it for too long, but they're not anymore. The RX just got a touchscreen as a stopgap, and the whole terrible system is going to be replaced in all Lexuses in the next few years.
All cars are reliable for the first 5-7 years (except for maybe Land Rover) and if you're buying a new car then most people won't keep them for more than 5-7 years.
If I had the money, this would be my choice. It looks great, especially in cool Lexus blue, and is so much less common on the road than other premium convertibles at your local golf club.

You want to encourage drivers to choose the V12 for long drives or daily drives and current batch leave them exhausted from the drive and also the crazy drop in value from just using the car. A used FF or Lusso is the great buy bc amazing V12 but way more affordable and usable. 612 is my darling for a gentleman daily over the 550, and I LOVE the 550. The 612 design is the best modern Ferrari period and will slay future car shows when the return to timeless design returns to glory over aggressive boy racer designs. Look at all the multi million dollar classic F cars and all are design like the 612. It also has the best sounding V12, full four seat layout, classy interior and glorious exterior dressing the first full aluminum space frame. It will be my first Ferrari if I don’t go with a two seat 550. The Luca years were the best IMO after the golden 60-70s.
LFA, Eunos Cosmo, FD RX7 and this new LC500 are the best best Japanese designs. First gen NSX should be added too if I had to pick 4.

Meanwhile,I happily drive a 94 Celica, that still turns over with no issue. lol
Enjoy driving boring cars for the rest of your life. Lol.
Subaru.
Hey Tom, if you like Lexus I have a few reviews of them, including the LC500 and the new UXe (as well as driving it from 100% to 0%). If you have time to watch it I would love to hear your thoughts :)
I’m pretty sure cars and bids is still gonna be new in 25 years...
Doug- I don't like to do ads in my videos
Also doug- I'm going to advertise cars and bids in every new video forever

Living in Kobe, Japan, I’ve seen a few of these in the streets recently and really loved the design. The teardrop headlights and taillights definitely leave a lasting impression.
i live in Kobe and i second this comment!
It would be good on a perfect road. Too low needs real tires.
The thing Doug isn‘t remembering is that the 2 door market definitely isn‘t "dead" in the rest of the world.
@@Dezbo Unfortunately you're wrong there, lots of premium manufacturers are looking towards China, such as Jaguar Land Rover or Europe. In fact looking at the official data from the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) in both 2018 and 2019 Germany exported more cars to the UK than the USA by about 25% more, in fact the Germans export more cars to the UK than the whole of North America and South America combined by a healthy margin! About 1 in 5 cars they export comes to the UK, by volume the UK is their number one export market, hence why they do some of the development work here in the UK, to make sure the cars suit the UK market.

I remember seeing the LC convertible when it was a concept at the 2019 Chicago auto show

@@Baukevandijk Yeah, we missed that time when we could walk outside to see concept cars in a place with a bunch of people =(
Good story
Saw the production model in person earlier this year at the 2020 Chicago Auto show. Beautiful, eye-catching yellow color
amazing, you were just a child, but now you’re 1 full number bigger
I love where the roof and all-windows buttons are located ! God it looks like a self destruct button hidden in the middle it would be amazing to show to the passengers , meanwhile hiding them so the interior is not ruined .
This has to be one of my favourite 3 cars ever! I‘ve never „Wow!“-ed so much because of a car since the 911 Turbo S! It just has it all, quality, styling, NA V8, sound, everything! Whoever did this at Lexus, I take my hat off to you!
If you’re going to have a menu you need to enter to use the heated seats, the least you could do is offer voice controls to turn them on too
I think the Lexus system has some sort of voice control but I have no idea what you can do with it
I agree I work at the Las Vegas Lexus and this is one of my biggest complaints from lc and LS owners
Matthew Farbo Lexus infotainments and systems are such a joke, you buy em for reliability and some luxury
@@youngtreveion Other than the terrible, horrible front end on them? I know it's polarizing but I HATE it. Can you tell? :)
if I was a multi-millionaire, I'd buy it. Why? because that tan interior is bloody gorgeous. it's honestly the most beautiful design for a loooooooooooong time, maybe even ever? imo ofc.
True, that interior is beautiful
The design is glorious and will be a smash hit second had and lightly used.
How bout the spyker
I didn’t notice it at first but even the soft top matches the interior on the inside. I’ve never seen anyone do that before with a soft top.

I was in love with this car, I get to test drive it yesterday with the sport carbon roof package. This is my next goal car.
Doug you should make a note of the quality of sound systems in cars.
Agreed! No mention of the Mark Levison sound system other than pointing out the sub between the seats...
Sound systems are hard because music copyrights. He needs a free to use test song to test the sound.
I think he lacks the knowledge and experience to rate sound systems. Of course you can tell the difference between a cheap ford and a bentley, but to compare sound systems from cars in the same price category would need you to have multiple cars in as a direct reference with you to tell what's better.
Copyright isn't the issue here, there's lits of great copyright free music, also he doesn't need to show himself while testing the systems.
Comparing sound systems even with reference is quite difficult (because audio and sound is a quite complicated topic, in many other ways aswell) and I'm sure he already considered reviewing it, but came to a similiar conclusion.
Fair point because my "12 speaker PREMIUM BOSE sound system" is anything but....
Bought one, and love it! The perfect trade in for my 2011 Ram 3500 Cummins Dually that I didn't need anymore since I moved from Texas to Southern California! I have a black top, white exterior, and red interior!

Doug is 100% biased against Lexus. In a Ferrari's tan interior, he has nothing but compliments. In a tan Lexus interior, Doug calls it "beige everywhere" and says it's not the interior he'd go with.

The thing looks like a damn concept car brought directly to our roads. Love it! We need more cars like this!
The fact that it isn't going to sell, is exactly why you need to buy one to park in a collectible car garage for long term storage. It will likely be very collectible in the future due to lower production, beautiful styling, and respectable performance. It just should not be a daily driver. The very fact that as he says, nobody is going to buy it, is it's strongest selling point for those who can afford a rarely driven garage collectible car that might be worth a fortune in 30 years. It might even be one of these cars that has a million dollar value in future auto auctions in pristine low milage, but well maintained condition. No demand, often equals rarity in the future.
Everyone else: In-car apps should be fast and simple to use.

Doug should I quit youtube my friends keep making fun of me for it
I can just imagine all the executives at Lexus crying in their coffee when they heard Doug say, "A great car that no one is going to buy...."
@Justinian Yi Exactly. Toyota/Lexus is an automotive giant. They can afford to produce products like these without worries of low sales.
@Justinian Yi Based on that logic they might as well bring back the LFA.
Ed Ding Please say it louder so they hear, we need a new LFA so bad
Undefined Process why? You aren’t gonna buy one lol
@@dkix89 Thing is, the lc500 is made to sell. No matter how small its market share is, its still made to generate profit. The lfa from the get go is not like that as evidenced on how the company lost money on each lfa they sold. Its not a car strangled by accountants, instead, it was an engineering exercise, which is rare and costly in the part of a manufacturer, regardless of how big they actually are. So i doubt they would bring back the lfa. I hope so too as i do adore the ngineering behind that masterpiece of a car, but its a reach for that to happen.
