It's time for a V8 SHOWDOWN!
It's Mat vs Yianni going head-to-head in two cars that have oh-so similar specs. Mat's in the Bullitt Mustang, which is packing a 5-litre V8 under the bonnet which will produce 460hp & 530Nm. As for the LC500? Well, it's also powered by a 5-litre V8, which can produce (you guessed it...) 460hp & 530Nm!
However, there are a couple of differences. Although the Mustang only has a 6-speed manual gearbox (compared to the LC500's 10-speed automatic), it weighs about 100kg less than the Lexus! But will that be enough to power it through to snatch the win?

Changing gear in a manual actually takes skill. That's why I don't know why these guys love racing autos. It's all about the car.
He probably should be changing gears like that with that glass transmission. The MT82 in the Mustangs, aside from the GT350 and Mach 1 that have the Tremec TR6060, are known to be glass and hate fast shifting.
Matt is shifting more like a granny. You could see every time he shifted the Lex gained on him. Someone needs to teach him how to powershift that six speed.

LEXUS LC500 at beginning had 477HP and after software updates currently has 464HP. I think that this engine has vast power and potential for eventually tuned cars.

Love when people say that because it shows a lot of % of people don’t know why that use to happen but don’t anymore (as often) mustangs use to have live axle which wasn’t the best for those situations. Most car companies didn’t make powerful solid axle rearwheel drive cars. But now for a long time ford has been using irs. With that comes better handling and control. Now it’s just driver error and the fact that there are more 8 sec 1/4 mile 900-1100whp mustangs out there than any other car in the world. You stick a idiot behind the wheel of the old or new ones it’s on the idiot not the car.

I saw one of those Lexus on the road last week, from memory the only one I’ve ever seen and it looked amazing, actually started looking on Autotrader and they are ~£59k at 2019 so good value from 90k new.
I've never really looked at Lexus cars before, and I've never seen the LC 500 on the road so I didn't know the thing existed. I checked randomly and everything I'm seeing is basically my dream car. Really looking forward to the 2024 model when it gets rid of the touchpad for an actual screen. Seriously considering purchasing one.

All the power in the third gen coyotes is 6500 to 7400 and he kept short shifting right when he was finally hitting the power and was pulling on the Lexus...Lol. pretty much a dead heat with driver variability though.

He shifts pretty much where peak power is. Nothing wrong with it at all. The Lexus is simply a slightly faster car compared to a 6 speed Mustang.

Matts granny shifting reminds me of my old 2008 Audi S4, it had an automatic that changed gears so slowly and thats what lost a few races.. Otherwise the power and acceleration is very comparable otherwise. Neat..

Maybe so, but that mustang has an mt82 transmission and it’s the worst transmission you can get in a mustang. The 10 speed auto would have wrecked the LC500. Not sure if these mustangs are slower in Europe, but even the 10 speed mustang on car wow hasn’t been putting out the best numbers. They will do the quarter mile in high 11’s and trap 118-121. Like an m3/M4

@@dhillon5660 something has to be up, there was a supercharged mustang gt with 750hp and here in America we have people going out and buying stock mustang GT’s with bolt ons (headers, intake manifold, e85 tune) with 500whp and they would be right next to that 750hp mustang on carwow. Granted the one I’m talking about is a 10 speed with a motor that’s one generation newer, but it doesn’t matter when we are talking about such a big difference in power in the same car. Oh well

as an lc500 owner you needed to put it in sport + and turn off traction control so it wont blog down.
@mat you know need to hold ur foot on the brake and hold the traction button for about 15 whole seconds till you read (advance track off) in the mustang for u to get in launch control for drag and drif cuz... its just something ive rarely seen anyone do on yourube

I’ve had both the manual and 10 speed in the third gen mustang, you had it in drag mod but had traction control on. Turn it off and don’t use the launch control. Takes a bit to get it right, the ten speed is the same , turn off traction control. Plus, that was a bullet and has an extra 20 hp that a regular GT
I’ve been blessed being an owner of different classes of Mercedes, BMW, Lexus and amongst all of them Lexus has been a more rewarding experience for me, Not only in terms of luxury and quality, but also great resale value

Going to have to agree. I do agree human's can't shift faster than a modern auto or DC, but I think a better driver could have closed the gap a bit. Still enjoyed the video though. :) (my daily is a manual FWIW).
That MT82 is at it again with those clunky shifts. Every time he shifted the car slowed more and more. I love my 6R80 it NEVER misses or slows down, even with 112k miles.
I thought that it would be close, until they said that one would have to row through the gears, and the other had extra gears and that in automatic! Not much of a chance, but the Stang performed well- at only 2/3 the price.
Legend has it “Matthew is still trying to shift that manual from 2nd to 3rd in that mustang still till this day ”.

Thinking the same. Those shifts where horrible, I shift my Clio casually on my way to work quicker than that, bloody hell.
Manuals require a learning curve that takes weeks or months to get in perfect tune with the car, in order to shift quick and smooth on demand. And every manual is different from one another.

The Lexus is just a boring car compared to other German and Italian brands/cars, can’t really get upset over the fact that the Lexus is very slow compared to its competitors hence bad reactions when driving it.

@@omarmahmood5011 Do research on the LC 500 and you will quickly find out that it isn't designed to set lap times or win races from a dig. It's a grand touring car, built with high-quality materials. It's built by the same team who manufactured the LFA, in the same Motomachi plant as the LFA. It's a very comfortable car that looks sleek, and goes pretty good when you put the foot to the floor. Never said it was a supercar, becasue it's not. It's a balanced and finely tuned machine.
I should have been a racecar driver. In my teens, I was truly devastating with any Manual. I could make a mustang dance. Oh, the tremec memories!!

Bruh that Lexus does not have launch control. He lift the brake and launch it that caused the wheel spinning.

Yanni just brake and floored it for the launch, but he should've just gave it about 1/2 throttle just to bring the rpm up to torque converter stall speed until actual start.
Since he floored it before the actual launch, the power of engine overcame the rear brakes, thus the spin before the launch, which the traction control kicks in also. Knowing lexus, it kicks in and cut engine power for 1 to 2 seconds.

The ideal thing would be like the corvettes C7 manual. First 6 gears are not that long , but 7th is a massive overdrive. Like the Gt350 trans would be great for the regular mustang gt.

@@VenTMG Because the Lexus has no launch-mode. So you need to launch it like the Mustang with ~1/4-1/2 gas. Otherwise the wheels lock up because it the torque overpowered the rear-brakes which caused traction-control to kick in and caused the Lexus to cut power. In the rolling race it was visible that both cars are basically equal outside their transmission & launch.
Lexus would have easily won the drag race, the launch was messed up for 2nd race

My mustang GT with 3.73s, hits 90ish mph in 3rd gear, and about 115mph in 4th gear.
Seems to me that the euro version has longer gears which is worse for acceleration but better for mpg
2018 and up Mustang GTs do have longer gearing than the 2015-2017 GTs. It's as fast as the 2015-2017 and if you drive curvy roads 3rd gear is all you need

Damn, the difference between the 10 speed mustang and manual is massive. It would be really interesting to see the 10 speed mustang vs the Lexus. You can see the mustang pull on the Lexus until Matt needs to shift, then he starts falling behind.
Yes the problem is that even if the shifter in mustang is a short throw one, you still need some skills to shift it faster. Moreover the Bullitt only comes in manual.
I'm just waiting for Mat to review the GT500 and get it in for some drag races as well. That would be awesome
The 10 speed would definitely pull on the lexus. You could clearly tell the mustang was faster until it was time to shift

There's also a 10speed auto gear box in the Mustang as an extra and I believe that's the problem

The problem with the brake tests is that the cars have different tyres. You'd get differences in stopping distances with the same car but different tyres
