The Soup Nazi was based on an actual owner of a popular take-out soup store in NYC, Al Yeganeh. He was known to be a bit prickly and eccentric, but his soup was awesome. He said he hated Seinfeld because after this episode, the popularity of his business skyrocketed beyond what he could handle.

@@cainealexander-mccord2805Yeah he really can't blame seinfeld for his businesses failures. he really was doing well for himself after the show. His business was expanded and he was able to franchise out etc. The business failed because his CFO was indicted for tax evasion cause the company failed to pay taxes for seven years straight.

I also heard that Jerry Seinfeld did go to the actual soup nazi awhile after the show had aired. The guy had to make sure it was the real Jerry Seinfeld because there were a lot of impersonators. He yelled and cursed at him. Check out the making of this episode.

The Argentina bit pops up in the weirdest places. In an episode of Frasier, Niles’ South American housekeeper surprises everyone by knowing German, saying she once worked for a German family in Argentina. On the Simpsons, Bart randomly calls international phone numbers and gets Adolph Hitler missing the call.

My then Girlfriend took me for lunch to the Soup Nazi before it was on Seinfeld, she said you have to see this guy and experience his craziness, but you have to let me do all the ordering because you gonna screw it up, so I shut up and let her talk and pay the exact price no change was allowed and it was just like in the show which aired a couple of years later

To be fair, even without being a Nazi I think Elaine was doing too much while ordering food that first time

After this episode, ESPN sportscenter went crazy by saying "No soup for you" while showing highlights of blocked shots in the NBA.

I read that the inspiration for the Soup Nazi was based on a real person that served soup to the cast and crew in the parking lot of the studio they worked in. The mannerisms of the vender was the same in the episode.

I played varsity basketball during the 1990's. Every time I or one of my teammates blocked a shot, we'd yell, "No soup for you!!"

I realized last time I watched this how much Elaine was playing with fire by taunting him with the recipes.
Like, if his reflexes were just a little faster, he could've snatched them away from her and there would be this alternate ending where she just has to sulk off home, empty-handed and defeated, and deal with a closing scene where Jerry smugly made fun of her.

The Soup Nazi was based on Al Yeganeh, the real-life owner of Soup Kitchen International in Manhattan, New York City. After the episode aired, Jerry Seinfeld and members of the cast and crew went to the restaurant for lunch. Yeganeh yelled at them and stated that the publicity had ruined his reputation. After Seinfeld offered an apology, Yeganeh yelled, "No soup for you!" and ejected them from his restaurant. Any references to "Seinfeld" are forbidden in any Soup Kitchen International.
    greetings from Rimini, Italy.
