Adding a Zillion SV TW spool to my Steez A helped for lighter weights and river fishing. A Steez A spool in an SS/SV made a surprisingly well caster...
chewy i have a few steez sv tws and find it just as effective with heavier lures...like 1/2 to 3/4oz chatterbaiters etc...not sure if you ran heavy lures on yours when you had it. the steez A has my attention though because of the higher line capacity for throwing 1oz to 5oz swimbaits on 20-25# fluoro. i know daiwa's aim with this reel was to provide a more "rugged" steez sv tw essentially although magnesium vs aluminum durability is negligible in these applications, with weight savings being the true benefit of magnesium. i agree with all your points though in this video...i prefer the steez over the met20 as well because of the far superior braking and broader range of casting consistency going from 1/4 oz lures to 3/4 oz lures with little adjustment. it looks like i'll be picking one of these up.
Met won’t backlash either. 4 brakes on and dial at 1-2. Try it. I can launch baits into low earth orbit and the spool sounds like a jet engine. I would do 2 on 2 off until I tried 4 on. I read somewhere that the svs was designed for 4 on and now I believe it. It’s the rod that and mechanics that control backlashes too. Good form and correctly loaded rod make all the difference. Cheers good content. 👍
The shimano can be adjusted "on the fly" with its external 6 position dial, contrary to what you said. You work out how many brake blocks you need on internally, then make finer adjustments while fishing with the external dial. This gives the Shimano more different levels of braking as well. I own both reels.
I have the SV and CT. My only complaint about the SV is that it sits a little higher on the rod then the metanium. I have all four internal brakes on every Shimano reel I own and just use the outside dial with the brake adjuster. With this setting I hardly backlash.
You were quoting $300 on the 2020 Metanium and $400 on the Steez A. Where are you finding these prices. I typically have to wait for Tackle Warehouse’s Black Friday 20% off sale to get anything lower than MSRP. I have the Steez SV TW and 2020 Metanium and I prefer the Daiwa.
@@joexie9512 in malaysia both reel are at the same same price range around myr 13++. Maybe steez a abit expensive around 50-60 myr. But still will go for steez a even the mgl is newer because i want to use it for saltwater and based on some videos review i think steez is more awesome in performance.
Not sure about the quality of the “current” production on the steez A and SV and so on, but back in 2016 or so when these were first released, I had issues with both the A and SV during casts. It does not happen every single time, but randomly on a cast the sound it created was not pleasant and they felt like a grinding noise. This happened to both my A and SV. On top of this the gearing on the A and SV felt like a smoothie grinder after a few outings. Anyhow my cousin had the same “exact” issues with his SV therefore this removes the user error out of the equation. I love the steez especially the design and ergonomics and they feel much better in the hand than metaniums, but because of my experience with these two I got rid of them and stayed with my usual shimano reels. So my question is, did anyone experience the same issues with the A or SV (or any of the steez lined up) and are the newer productions better or do they have any issues?
I assume the new daiwa steez/zillion/alphas with digi-gear and sv boost spool casted g1 aluminum will destroy the shimano metanuim in casting and all around performance on the water. The Shimano Antares A70 is probably the only reel to compete with Daiwa's new reel line up now.
@@ChewyThaoFishing How would you compare the new 2021 Steez A TW HLC to the Steez A discussed here? Which one would you buy right now if you had a choice?
Its a wank.I You can and should adjust it to get absolute best performance. This is how stupid modern marketing is. They have to dream up some bullcrap feature to write on the box.
I like both reels. Both are lightweight and almost the same price. But i prefer the steez a because of the aluminium body meanwhile the new metanium still magnesium. I want to use for saltwater/inshore fishing so its a no for magnesium eventhough shimano has upgrade to brass gear. The design also i thinks steez a is better than metanium. The metanium color is not very attractive for me
I typically throw plastics like senkos and craws and flukes. All weightless. I was looking into the Curado DC. Will this get backlash with no thumbing?
i had to revisit this as i've fished the daiwa steez sv tw (i know...not the A) and the metanium mgl 2020 since it launched all this year exclusively. long story short, the daiwa steez wins without question. yes the met20 is smooth and long casting, but just isn't as consistent as the daiwa steez. as mentioned here in the video, the daiwa steez magforce braking system is just FAR superior than the SVS infinity braking system. the steez also handles a broader range of lure weights better with no hiccups in changing from a qtr oz swimjig to a 1 oz glide bait. paint it however you'd like, but a contact/friction braking system is going to be inferior despite all the hype surrounding the SVS infinity braking system. both reels are super smooth and well built. both reels are light. both reels cast well. but at the end of the day the reel that requires less adjustment depending on wind and lure size is going to win out for me. this and the fact that the steez is more comfortable to palm for me personally; better thumb bar positioning etc... BUT, the biggest issue i have with the svs infinity system is the inconsistency if you use a line conditioner. i've noticed if i spray my reel then suddenly decide it's a setup i need to throw...the chances of me blowing up my reel seem to be greater than desired. that line spray will seep into the side plate and onto the polymer braking tabs and brake plate. when this happens it seems the reel has no braking at times and it'll overrun badly. i rely on line conditioner in running fluoro because it does make a drastic difference. and yes i do run good fluoro, but still...once you use line conditioner you won't go back. with the daiwa steez i could literally fully submerge it into line conditioner and it wouldn't matter due to the magnetic braking. at the end of the day the daiwa steez is the better performer with little to no adjustments. this becomes glaring when you've fished both reels ALL day long...8-12hr sessions. and yes shimano offers dc reels but the slx dc and curado dc are too heavy...and the metanium dc still not as light or as refined as a daiwa steez sv tw, which you have complete control of. @chewy...are you on instagram?
i owned 3 metaniums but sold them because they geary. i owned 2 steez A and a morethan they are smooth. my friend bought 2 new metanium with brass gear still not smooth...he tried my steez and bought one .. im sorry to be honest. i love shimano but i hate micromodule. i love daiwa but i think t wing just not really needed.
towing a joke really isn’t like daiwa going to win any casting contest even with it i wish they made a lower profile reel that i can actually palm comfortably
@@garyk76 i miss those days when workhorse reels just hv simple brass gear with big teeth that is smooth powerful and cheaper too. aluminium gear is fine for those finesse applications.
Lim Mun Chew to a fault of my own i power fish and sometimes with big baits i had a bad experience with a aluminum grated reel i’ll take the little extra weight of a brass geared reel any day now over trying save a few ounces i’d love to find a curado e 7 300 imo is the best reel ever made i used to fish daiwa’s before the t wing i just don’t care for that feature myself i don’t think it gained any distance and i’ve heard you can’t run braid to flouracarbon leaders the way i do on them where i put around 15-20 yards of flouracarbon leaders on my reels where it’s usually enough to cover a fishing trip without having to tie another leader most days
If you need a reel that's guaranteed not to back last thing you might want to learn baitcasters a little better! And if it's too much work to open a side plate to make an adjustment (who's is not needed in the Met) maybe you are just lazy 😂 Once you adjust the Metanium it will not backlash either no matter what you do to it! It is a million times more comfortable in the hand than anything in the Diawa lineup also.

I do not understand why Daiwa will put clicky drags in regular bass casting reels but not in their BFS reels lol
You can convert the gear over to clicky drag. Lol
Agree and I am going for Steez A TW as well :)
BOOM!
Daiwa will be friendlier for sure. The met 2020 will be the better for long casting.

It’s a zero adjuster. Cast cap you don’t touch it it’s set from the factory just to stop the side to side spool movement.
Yessir it is set from factory however, you can adjust it if you should choose for even better skipping results!
