Daiwa's Best baitcaster ever? 2019 Daiwa Steez CT SV TW700 vs 2017 Steez SV TW

  • Is the Daiwa Steez CT SV 700 TW Daiwa's best reel ever?
    It's light, and compact. But what's the deal with the price tag. I dig it and all but in my opinion. It doesn't bring enough to the table to warrant the $$$. No magforce 3d which I guess daiwa aborted. No carbon fiber handle like in the $300 Air Stream Custom. Just less less raw materials (and how does less cost more) and a clicky drag (found in other lesser expensive reels that trickled UP to this reel.

    Why do you think they sound and vibrate so much when they cast (happens to my new ct sv), or is it just mine? Some Daiwa silent tune version would be greatly appreciated.

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  5 років тому

      Hey man...Your CT is buzzy on the cast too? Good ears....I was wondering if someone would notice that in the beginning. I'm glad you chimed in. After some poking and prodding i think the click I mentioned is due to the spool bearings.......my Non CT steez reels and every other daiwa I have is silent on the cast.

      Is this reel any good for topwater fishing? Or can it handle like a fifth of an ounce topwater lure? In Europe there’s a fish called asp and one of the best ways to catch it is topwater and i really love this beauty of a product

      @@schadow0418 It would work extremely well for that. Especially with light line. You could also go with a BFS reel too if you want to throw that suze or smaller the majority of the time.

    Completely agree. I love my Steez SV TW’s far more than my Steez CT SV TW. They fit my hand better, especially resting my thumb above the T-Wing. I wish both would have come with 90mm handles from Daiwa because the 80’s feel obnoxiously small.

    This guys100% the truth. Daiwa Steez is just as good or better than Shimano's flagship baitcasters. Feeling the micro gears grinding together in shimano's doesn't make it a better reel.

    So I really hope you get a chance to answer this question.
    You have given the Daiwa BG much praise and have said it is one of the best reels you can buy for your money. And I have bought 3 of them just from your recommendation and I love them!
    I’m looking to get into Baitcasting reels. What would you say is the “Daiwa BG” of the baitcasting world? If there even is one that is similar in quality for a reasonable price, thanks.

    I just bought the Steez sv tw yesterday and fished with it today for the first time. I gotta a 15% discount of the retail $550 so ended up saving around $80 for buying a demo from Dicks sports. I never thought I would end up owning a Steez. But I’m so glad I do. I went from a Lews xfinity paired with an Ugly Stick 7’3 MH. Fished with that for 6months then bought a Shimano Curado dc. A massive prize jump between each purchase but the nicer I got with each purchase the desire for even better took over. And I definitely wasn’t about to put my Steez on a freeking Ugly Stick😩
    So I paired my Steez with a St.Croix 7’1 MF legend tournament bass series rod and was blown away with the combination. Been fishing with a bait caster for 25 years and
    Between the smoothness of the reel and sensitivity of the rod. I can’t help but think of how many fish I missed just because of my cheap set up. If you have the love for fishing like I do buy high end equipment you’ll be glad u did, I know I am. See u on the lake👊🏻

      It had to be repaired by Daiwa. I dealt with the tech directly. He said spool bearings... I told him level wind components. It was in the level wind. Strange repair process too. I dealt with the head of repairs and the reel sat un touched for about a week and a half since the return address and name wasn't mine... Was like what would it matter who's names on it.

The ecmcs3 amzn.to/2J4qXPM I clip it to my hat so it's always the same distance....and i turn the mic gain allll the way down so in premiere pro it never peaks above -6 db...and if it does I attenuate it. Every now and then if I hear background noise I'll run a filter. The shimano video i had the gain up a bit and the audio was a little clippy.....I had a fancy rode mic but returned it because it was no different.

    Any shimano/daiwa crossover guys...is it really, TRULY worth checking these reels out? I’ve been throwing metaniums and aldebarans for years so I’m pretty used to shimanos high end stuff and can’t quite picture how a reel could be “better”. But at the same time, I’ve had a nagging curiosity to check out a steez for a couple years. I’ve liked the tatulas I’ve thrown but not enough to dethrone my curados. I’m wondering if it’s the same case with daiwa’s higher end stuff or if they pull ahead in the premium market somehow. It’s an expensive question to get answered and of course, frickin tackle warehouse’s demo program is down just as I’m able to fish more than I have in the past decade...

    I agree when it comes to the aldebaran. If you’re steadfastly against shimano, that’s one thing. But if you’re willing to give it a shot, the aldebaran is just about as good as it gets in the “ultra premium” $400+ range. There are certain things daiwa just does better. Their braking and tws just scream “short range accuracy”. But for an allrounder, weightless plastics and jerkbaits to 3/4 ounce jigs, I haven’t found a better reel than the alde. Especially when you throw it on a lightweight rod like an nrx...good god....

    I have both Daiwa Steez SV TW and Steez CT SV TW. Just like Daiwa designed and claims them to do; Steez SV TW is more of an all-round reel casting heavier lures flawlessly and light lures effectively but requires little more practice and techniques, while Steez CT SV TW is definitely much more efficient and effortless casting lighter lures. Like all flagship Daiwan products, Steez reels are built with greatest possible quality and refineness and I believe they worth every single penny spent if one can afford. They also make 'KDM' stuff but recommend you to look at those brands if you want to see how their products perform. BTW, in South Korea, KDM version of DOYO baitcasters (they produce Lew's and Abu reels) are much more popular than those of Banax.

    The only low profile baitcasting reel I ever bought was the Abu SilverMax for $60. Casting was not easy. Does it get better around the $150 mark? [Tatula/Curado K] Or should I just stay with spinners? Whats a cheap reel you would suggest that can be used for lures ranging from 10 to 20 grams.

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  5 років тому

      It all has to do with the brake. Find a deal on the daiwa fuego usually around 60 to 70$ start with the brakes turned up. And work your way down...You'll find your casting stroke and release point will change as you go down in braking. I suggest you adjust the spool tension knob to allow the slightest amount of play and focus on thumbing the spool at splash down to stop it. That'll get you accustomed to doing that right off the bat for when you get a feel for it and gain experience. The fuego is one of the lowest priced reels that will stay with you for awhile...it's the same thing as the pricier tatula minus the T wing line guide that really only nets warm and fuzzies offering a smoother casting sensation at higher lure speeds....with a tiny bit of distance...not really noticeable in fishing applications.

      It's a great reel.....very controlled when you want it an example being.... jointed baits can fly straighter with less banana'ing. Great at skipping due to how strong the braking can get.......and if you want max distance..........especially with braid......the lower settings fly. Though I find a bit lower trajectory casts yeild the most controllable results........high arcs yeild mid cast over runs...The cuado K is another one that bombs. Set it up at 2 brakes on and 2 or 3 no the dial for loong range.....And add another brake and tune the dial for distance and control...Though it doesn't skip as effortlessly....and I find gantare/ chibitarel style baits banana/ frisbee a bit more at higher settings compared to the mag z brake. The tat is smooth but a different kind of smooth...the curado feels like that butter smeared on a window type sticky smooth...the tat feels like wd 40 on a window type smooth lol

    First of all, I will never spend US$700 on a baitcaster, it is just out of whack for the type of fish that you can target with it. I think my absolute limit is no more than US$550 which is basically how much an Antares DC MD costs in Japan.
    Overall, I look at species and their respective level of requirement on gear. Personally, I would be much more willing to spend more on saltwater fishing simply because certain species of fish demand it. Take big GTs for example, you are just not advised to use anything other than a Stella or Saltiga, is just a fact of life. Anything less will not have enough drag and will not stand up to the punishment dished out by the GTs. But, if you are only going after Largemouths for example, one could argue a workhorse reel such as a Tatula CT Type-R or a Curado K is more than enough. Anything more is just luxury may be because of the reel's ultra smoothness or quality materials used, etc. In other words, you don't need it and is nothing more than a nice-to-have if you will.
    My most expensive Daiwa baitcasters are the 2018 Ryoga and Steez A TW. If you are talking about all round fishing, they are already plenty good enough in my book. I bought my Steez A from Japan for US$360 which I felt was the right price for that reel and not its US recommended retail. I mainly do saltwater fishing and to me the Steez is already plenty small, light and smooth enough. It is probably my favourite low profile if you discount DC reels.

      Couldn't agree more.....It's hard to take reels at this price seriously. Especially baitcasters which internally are all generally the same. We all like nice things. And what many of the top reels offer just adds to the enjoyment......but virtually none will catch you any more fish. The 700$ price tag for this reel is out of line with reality. It's the same exact reel only made using fewer of the raw materials......with a clicky drag. It should be less expensive than the 2017 steez tw which already was expensive. And took it a step further. What's funny is on the daiwa website they call it a 70 and a 700...Never nice to see obvious misprints for a flagship price reel...but they are wrong in every single product discription for every single mag sealed spinning reel on the entire site.....There is no such thing as a mag sealed main shaft...It doesn't exist anywhere. It was hard to take the saltiga bay jigger seriously at it's price with the certate hd being 250$......$550 for a gear......and repair prices on saltigas 330$ for a worn gear set and they won't even send you the bad set back.....weird things with top tier daiwa offereings it seems.
