    I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.

    Review the Lews high-end vs the Shimano metanium. I've used both and know shimano is better but all the young guys have fallen into the wild colors and over priced trap. Like if you agree

      Lew’s doesn’t offer anything that compares to the Metanium.
      Pro-Ti is the top end Lew’s reel, followed by the Hypermag. $349 and $299 respectively.
      They are pretty much Bantam and Chronarch competitors. I do own a Hypermag (that I got on heavy discount) and it’s a really, really light and nice reel.

    It would be cool to see a tour of your new houses, or at least the backyards.
    I have two of the 150B HG reels. One I had to send back with a bad bearing. My only complaint with the new Metanium is I preferred the way the older versions palmed. Otherwise they are less finicky of a caster (exactly what Matt pointed out in this video) and the brass gears are awesome and should allow them to stay smooth longer.
    I'd also like to see a walk through of the Poison Adrena lineup. I have the 6'11 Medium Plus and I'm curious how it compares to the 7'3 MH and 7'2 H. I wish they would add a standard medium power spinning option.

    I’d like some opinions on the Steez SV or eve the CT, looking forward to buy something for small baits (jerkbait, weightless plastics, small lipless etc)

    • @helotaxi
      @helotaxi 4 роки тому +4

      While I’m not Matt or Tim, I do have one each of the Steez SV and CT. The CT is great for light baits and line. Only reel I own that I think could use a little more drag. The SV is my favorite reel that I own, and I own a lot of high end reels including several of the new Metaniums. Super light. Super smooth. Super controlled. The Metanium is a touch heavier, but so small that you don’t really notice the weight and just as smooth, however it’s has a livelier spool. Great for long casts, it will bomb just about any lure 1/4oz or over a mile, but isn’t as controlled in close where the Steez really shines.

    • @sgtpavlov
      @sgtpavlov 4 роки тому +1

      Depends on how low you want to go with the lure weights. If you are looking to literally cast lures weighing around true 1/16 oz, the Alphas Air TW came out in Japan earlier this year. You can cast a trout magnet 1/64 oz jig head + plastic with it, out of the box. The spool is extremely shallow and light though, so you won't be able to fit as much line on it as a normal reel.

    • @HBeretta
      @HBeretta 4 роки тому

      @enrico giorio...like the other comments mention with regard to the steez sv tw to which i can attest to it does have more control throughout the cast especially with lighter lures. i have a met20 jdm which has the smaller 100 size spool, so i'm not sure how the US version with it's 150 size spool compares. ebay has jdm met20s for under $350 and in some cases as low as $305 which is a steal...i'd know because i stole one for $305 plus $25 shipping. it's hard to justify a steez sv tw at msrp...i was lucky to get mine for around the $400 on avg but did get lucky with a nib at $350 on ebay. personally, the steez sv tw is still the best baitcaster on the market, BUT if you went with a MET20 you wouldn't be unhappy. the MET20 is very very very smooth and performs well. steez sv tw wins out though due to being under 6oz and does have FAR superior braking over the highly touted and deservedly so SVS infinity braking.

    • @helotaxi
      @helotaxi 4 роки тому +1

      HBeretta if you order a Steez from Japan when the exchange rate is good, you can get a pretty good price on them. I bought mine before last year’s price increase and also during a Tackle Warehouse sale so got a great deal. My first Metanium was from the first batch Tackle Warehouse got in. My other two came from Japan. All three said Metanium 150 on the box and the listed line capacities are the same for US and JDM. They’re the same reel. I haven’t seen a 100 sized version advertised even on the JDM sites that I frequent.

    • @HBeretta
      @HBeretta 4 роки тому

      @@helotaxi my met20 JDMs only spool a 100 yds of either 12# or 14# fluoro...I'd have to look, but it's close so it's a true 100 size spool. likewise, my steez sv tw in around the same line capacity wise - i prefer 100 size spools; more versatile. i haven't seen a US met20 so can't compare, BUT all my JDM met20s came in a box that just reads 'Metanium - HG'...no 150 anywhere on the box. This aligns when Chewy Thao's review on youtube he threw about a month ago comparing the JDM and US versions and the US version does have a true 150 spool, along with his JDM only having a 100 size spool. good looking out with the steez exchange rate tip...i'd have to look direct at japanese sites then, as many do offer paypal and just need to check on exchange rate. i have 3 steez sv tw(s) but a couple more wouldn't hurt.

    I wonder how light of lure weights the reel can handle. I'm talking about being able to throw tiny crappie jigs and stuff like that with it. I have the Shimano Calcutta conquest BFS hg from Japan, and I cast really tiny things with that reel. It has the smooth micro gears too.

      Until you break one and Shimano tells you about their limited year warranty. St Croix and Loomis have the best warranties, where even if its your fault, you can get a replacement for less then MSRP. For me it's a no-brainer, I'd never drop that much money on a rod that wasn't a Loomis or St Croix.

    • @paoslee
      @paoslee 4 роки тому

      Honestly I feel like reels are more important than high end rods. I own from megabass destroyer to cheap $100 fate 13 rods. I have tried my bros conquest, nrx, imx and i can say theres not much difference in sensitivity except for weight. A decent brand $100+ is almost as sensitive as a nrx now a days, but a good reel makes a huge difference. No need to spend $500 when todays 100-200 rods are very good, but I do love the light weight of those expensive rods.

    • @twiggsherman3641
      @twiggsherman3641 4 роки тому

      @@paoslee all my rods are the old Shimano compre's with the EVA handles and the technique specific actions. They had a lifetime warranty. I just recently decided to try a newer rods, as these things are all 8 years old. I was annoyed when I found out Shimano did away with their lifetime warranty, I was looking at some Zodias, but because of the warranty changes, I went with a St Croix Mojo bass with the SC III blank. For a 150 dollar rod, it's amazing. I paired it with my Lews Hypermag, and the combo weighs practically nothing. I use it for my senkos. It has a 5 year warranty, and even after the warranty period I can get a new rod for less then MSRP. Not that I break rods much, but stuff happens, and I'd rather go with a company that stands behind their products and gives the consumer some piece of mind.

The one issue I have with the reel is the side brake adjustment is very stiff and sometimes even difficult to adjust. Wished they made a smoother adjustment with clicks through the number settings. Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this issue as well with their Metaniums.

I want this reel and rod to be my skipping set up for jigs and worms/ etc but was wondering if getting a 8:1 is too fast for bottom baits because i have the Curado dc and I use it for bottom baits and it’s a 7:3. I seen in y’all’s speed/techniques y’all use a lower speed than this for bottom baits, I’m assuming it’s all about preference. Also do you use a heavy rod for flipping/skipping or do u use a med-heavy. I was thinking probably getting the rod in a 7,2. Its crazy because if I go and asked every pro fisherman their opinion they will all give me a different answer

    As a high school angler it’s so hard to have these really high end reels. But I know someday I will have these and it’s awesome to have this information. But if you could do a reel in the 100-120 dollar range that would be amazing. Just do one that’s most requested by your viewers

    With the size of my hands I can't go anything but a Shimano. The Scorpion DC is my #1, feels perfect.
