How would you compare your poison glorious to the conquest? Also for bass what rod size would u go, MH or M?
@@MrRednexus I dont have a conquest but the 1st Gen Poison Glorious was a huge disappointment the times I fished it. NRX is levels ahead in sensitivity. The Exprides were noticeably more sensitive. Not sure about the newer PGs though.

Good video !
My butt is triggered
Shimano nowadays is just for looks, fooling many fishermen into thinking they are buying a Japanese quality and expensive reel, but it has an endless shaft and plastic bushings, Daiwa undoubtedly has more quality.
I love all your videos... one thing to remember with the zero adjuster. Factory workers aren’t going to adjust the adjuster the same. You should set the zero adjuster exactly how you like it out of the box and leave it there for good. It’s why there is still an adjuster. You set it how you want it and leave it. Don’t trust a factory employee to set it perfect. I plan on getting one of each. Nice video.
correct!
Its staying as is because Daiwa knows best lol... and even if I messed with it, it was not going to make up 15+ feet because I was already on the limit.
initial first second the spool letting go the line effected by how much tension u give on spool tension...depend on how much pressure u give swinging the rod and weight of the lure.....too loose then u getting bird nest before lure hit the water....that why that knob is there is the first place...and zero adjusting term just a marketing gimmick....u need to adjust the spool tension knob....
@@wanzhaf932 you’re wrong the adjuster is set to just stop the side to side spool movement, you don’t touch it, the magnetic brakes is all you use. That’s why the spool adjuster is recessed into the frame.
@@jeffreylenz7314 all these know it alls thinking they know better than the company who made the reel lol
Metanium the BEST!
NFWay
I have both. I don't favor one over the other.
Bullshit youtube channal setting at number 8 for zillion haha
you mad kid? lol
In the end its what happens on the water actually fishing. What happens if its a bit windy etc. Anglers have their preferred brands and set ups. For me I don't need to cast more than 20 to 30 metres. Long casts aren't my No. 1 consideration. Accuracy and good brakes because its always windy out on the water.
What if your "target" is 15 feet farther than you can cast with the Zillion?
@@THEREELTEST I don't need to worry in a kayak.
@@leonardbrown1512 the majority of anglers fish from the bank
@@THEREELTEST In Australia 95% of land based anglers use Spin reels. I showed some mates my bfs gear and they had never heard or seen it. Baitcaster reels aren't popular here and it would mainly be people in water craft. My local tackle shop would have say 5 baitcasters on display compared to more than 20 spin reels.
For such a bait on the previous zillion, the best setting was 5, and in the absence of a headwind, 4. And this is with zero tension of the spool. I think you've set the brake settings too much.
Agreed! I keep mine on 4 max! 3-4 but mostly 4. Never 5 though as it seems overbraked for me
He does this every time
I have both these reels done the test w same li e same lure..actually adjust the dawia from factory results would suprise u..good content but clearly u are a shimano fan boy as u call other folks..adjust the zero adjust and re do it..
Zero adjust on the zillion is just basically tensioner right?
8 brakes on the zillion is wayy too high! the zillion has the capacity to go lower on the brakes
Nope, with that lure I was on the limit
Thats true, i can do 5-6 brake on 7-18 gram lure
My Zillions can all cast without issue with the dial set to 5-6 without backlash at all.
I've watched your videos for a long time, good information always concerning spool weights and future releases. Concerning this casting comparison, I feel 15ft difference for magnets vs centrifugal, at that one of the best casting reels around, is pretty solid. You are a seasoned caster, but Daiwa is more user friendly for most. I just don't like to take either brand's side and try to see the positives they both offer.
Both are solid reel companies. I personally like Daiwa for the line guide system, buts that's me. Crazy to see that there are reel wars like kids debating PS and Xbox.
For real and Samsung or iPhone 😂 People just like to push their thoughts on others
Put the Bantam up against the zillion. More even in the price range.
bantam getting old....
If you buy JDM, the Met and new Zillion are almost identical in price. If you buy USDM, you're getting a Zillion made in Thailand, not Japan. It's done specifically so Daiwa could save money on the USDM Zillion.
@@wanzhaf932 it's jarring thinking that 2018 is THREE YEARS AGO isn't it
Looks like Daiwa just raised the price of the new Zillion to $349....exactly the same as the Bantam
i got both reels, Zillion out cast the metanium. oh and both used in saltwater. Metanium died in a month. 😂
You must not know how to fish a Metanium or Shimano reels🤣🤣🤣
@@thechamplainfisher7854 maybe the reels can't take the punishment hahahaha
@@tiotiotiofishing maybe you don’t know how to fish them🤔
The metanium needs upgrade to brass gears. Most guys I know have noisy and grind within a season and upgrade to brass gears and never look back. Makes it a solid performer. Lp in salt where they get dunked has always been a question. I want to see first a300/400 lexa HD and tranx survive a season of sea kayak fishing or real wet surf with only standard fresh water flush as a SW spinner would generally receive. Then we can see how they hold up. Any reel can handle salt if it never gets more than just wet line and good flushing. But went they get splashed by waves or dunked that then shows what it can handle.
@@tonykomer2997 totally agree with the brass gears!
You really need to adjust the spool clearance on the Zillion regardless what Daiwa says. Numerous people have found its set for average and not consistent max distances. You can see this in your narrow tune ability. Blow up or short with only one click brake change. Numerous people have found this on a few different models all with the non adjust from .daiwa. when you have a chance try it. If you get over 120ft you know it had an effect with that crankbait.
It’s funny to see how the Shimano fanboys react when their reel wins a casting battle, when in reality that’s only a minor factor in what makes one reel better than the other.
Its even funnier to see how the Daiwa fanboys react lol
Sounds like something a Daiwa fan boy would say. Just bend the knee to Shimano already… 🙄
Probably could have gotten better distance out of both if you loosen the spool tension. I like plenty of play in my reels.
if you loosen 1 thing you have to tighten up another
The test is fatally flawed. If the spool tension was not adjusted on the Diawa, your results are meaninglessness
Its staying just like it came from Daiwa, the ones who make the reel and gave the instructions on it.
Metanium 💪💪💪
I used to have the 2021 zillion but I sold it anyways as I already have the Metanium and tbh the zillion is a more user friendly reel which is easier to use but still the Metanium cast further but its very troublesome to set the interoir brakes in my opinion
Shimano is life! Ride or die!
I’m a Shimano user, but you already seem completely biased and already bashing on Daiwa and Daiwa fans in your comments. If you’re going to do a actual review or comparison between the two, would you please go “fishing” and actually catch fish? All these casting and this and that does not make up for what every reel is capable of, and if you’re not catching fish with them, then obviously you’re missing most of what the reel was made for, which is to catch fish, not to be used to just cast lures on grass for crying out loud. Stop being biased and bashing on other companies and go out there, fish with each one for a month or so, catch fish on both, and then give us a complete review and comparison. Thank you.
The fact that you started off by saying you are a shimano user already tells me you aren't. And this is MY channel. I do what I want and say what I want. Nobody has authority here but me. Don't like it? I don't care.
@@THEREELTEST The fact that you replied to my comment saying you don’t care? Means you do care. Lol 😂

Saye je kalo shimano biase 1 internal brake, 2 or 3 external brake..
The Reel Test has did the testing job right,...
I used a lot of daiwa reels, but always disappointed... Except the older Tatula SV TW.... The others daiwas? Dissapointing
The Zillion like most Daiwas cast farther when you just rotate the combo and cast it sideways… it lessons the friction of the line hitting the guides, especially with the t-wing system.
I'm sorry to say this but u didn't set both reel to the max for cast..Zillion can cast even for 1gm lures same goes too Metanium..So i guess this is not a battle..Your brake and spool adjuster for both reel are not maximized yet and your casting skill too..I'm sorry but I want a 'true' battle..Not a testimony like this..Btw its a great video..Thumbs Up🔥
The first thing you do with Daiwas zero adjuster is.......Adjust it! It's a bullshit feature Invented for cynical marketing purposes. All it is is a tension adjustment that's harder to turn. Don't fall for that rubbish!
I’m curious as to how the zillion pitches and skips compared to the metanium???
Zillon is the best :)
Until a 25 year old abu enters the comp!
Maybe
Which one
Appreciate all of your videos. I have two of the Metanium MGLs and I’ve been underwhelmed. Looking fwd to trying the new Zillion.
Im starting to think people dont know how to set up SVS infinity for distance casting... maybe Ill make a video on that. But I do admit that after a few years of testing SVS infinity, there are way too many variables and combinations with its braking system the average angler
@@THEREELTEST you should make that video!!!
@@THEREELTEST imo the SVS Infinity is super simple to use and set up. I don't use spool tension most of the time especially for lighter lures and plastics. 2 shoes and around 3 on the dial bomb casts everything without issues. Only rarely do I use 4 shoes ON and that's for weightless plastics or very light lures or if it very windy and I have to cast into the wind
I think He Should use casting plugs instead Lures.
Hahaha Daiwa brakes set to 8! Try again with setting 2.
Why dont you show us first and put it on UA-cam? Using the same lure I used. Ill be waiting
@@THEREELTEST I can’t get mine down to 2 with a very similar crank bait, but I can get my 2020 zillion down to 4, and the right brake just tight enough to take away the spool wobble. In my opinion, 8 seems a little high, and 2 seems a little low. But it may be the rods we are using that is making the difference possibly
@@ryanfujimura8742 I got mine down to 2 not even beeing too careful while casting, tried casting 8g daiwa lure, not as compact as TRT lure, 10g viblure, metalvibe, baitjunkie jigs. I think the SV boost activates when the setting is so low as it probably is "too low", but then it spins freely late in the cast. Tried 8 first but that was WAY too much brake, my buddy ran safely at 4 with all kinds of lures and weights. No wonder the distance sucked in this test.
@@philipwiberg992 4 is my go to setting 80% of the time. And I adjust the right brake just enough to take away the wobble. I love my reel. It reels extremely smooth.. as it should for the price!
@@ryanfujimura8742 Yeah I think that will end up being my go to setting as well, also love the smoothness!
Casting distance is useless compared to precision, daiwa wins
Metanium svs will always favor long cast.
which one is better for pitching? no backlash, I suck at pitching, I do get small backlashes, so which one has the better brakes for pitching? thanks
I was expecting an actual competition here. Wow. Looks like Daiwa should boost that reel back to the drawing board.
SV Boost may work... against standard SV reels, just not against SVS Infinity
Nah, they at Diawa already caught (and will continue to catch) the "fish" they wanted.
I just tried my zillion for the first time. And I can say for sure that using the setting 8 on the brakes is just ridiculous. I went down to 4 with a 12 gram crankbait witouth any problems. Just to be sure I didn't touch the zero adjuster at all. I'm not saying that the zillion casts further, I haven't tried the metanium yet but 8 is for sure way to much breaking.
I’ve discovered the same. I usually run it on 5 or occasionally 6. Anything over 6 is choking distance…
Unless throwing light and/or non-aerodynamic lures…
Just adjust tension knob dude,, that's not fair,, if u service that reel that tension knob will change not same as factory before
yuppp
Exactly. Those are set differently by whatever worker handles it. If Daiwa didn’t want you to adjust it - there would be no knob in the first place. It’s meant to be adjusted by the owner to preference AND THEN left alone.
no knob adjustment will make up that 15 ft difference.
From diawa its set by a computer for there optimization its not meant to be adjusted at all says in the diawa instruction but they still allow you to adjust it
Not sure why it's always " VS" with people.
Can't anyone just buy what they like and be Happy?
And it's not like you only own 1 reel,,,
Lol.
Thanks 4 the comparison.
Respect.
We all secretly think ours is better anyway. Can say it doesn't matter though. I've caught my biggest bass on abu or lews, doesn't mean I dont love and prefer fishing my shimanos. It just means I spend more time with the cheaper reels cause I don't mind a few scrateches on those -- and my luck was better on those days lol
Because people like to see which preforms better, long casting translates to easier/better short casting, so this could be important for pitching light lures for example
@@fantomphoenix6170 fair enough. But I've always found distance to be much more dependant on the rod than the reel.
@@Voxguitarsrock I use a tfo tfd power 1 rod, with an slx dc, and the TFO is pretty much a small musky rod to throw 1-2 1/2 oz baits, but I can cast a weightless plastic and empty my spool that has 40lb power pro v2.
The reel sets the base line, and the rod is a + or - from that.
As well as the line.
@@fantomphoenix6170 good to know. Thank you.
Da wurde die Zillion wohl absichtlich, ausgebremst.
🤔 ...20.9 g and 21g is a 1 gram difference? 😂
Im a fan of the Metanium but this video is worthless, didn't set the spool tension on the Zillion.
Daiwa recommends that you don't touch the spool tension. So he didn't. Daiwa claims that the zero adjusted tension is the best for casting, so...
@@clariidfisherman3702 Don't care what they recommend. Have many Diawa reels with the zero adjuster and went a year without adjusting the tension knob and then I finally did and I was blown away how much better performance I was getting. There is no reason for not adjusting it. If you don't like where its at just move it back to where the factory had it. They set it too tight from the factory and thats a fact.
I love these videos but I agree. Why not set the spool tension ? At the end of the day two physical properties must be managed. Firstly the acceleration of the spool and secondly the friction between the air and the casting plug. Personally I dial in the centrifugal breaks for the specific lure / rod. Then I play with the spool tension depending on wind conditions etc. Again. I love the videos
@@jimford8512 well I can't comment as I don't have a zero adjuster reel. But as a general rule of thumb I set the spool tension to minimize the sideways play and just fiddle with the brakes. I hardly ever touch the spool tension
@@clariidfisherman3702 I agree, you want to set the tension so theres just a tiny bit of side play in the spool. If you watch his unboxing video, he says there's no play in the spool then says diawa recommends a little bit of play. The entire reason for the zero adjuster is for people that dont know how to use a baitcaster, they would just set the brakes and not the tension and get back lashes so Diawa set it themselves, a little tighter then it should be so people didn't have to mess with it and it would work with all baits. I used my steez for a year then finally decided to adjust the "zero adjuster" and I was literally getting prob 12-15 ft further on my casts, it was ridiculous. I guess I was scared to adjust it because Diawa says to leave it, but its the same as all reels, they just pre set it from the factory.

Adjust the zero adjuster based on how you like it and it will cast further
If you bought a USDM Metanium, it has a different spool (150) than the JDM Metanium (70). I can't personally verify that, but it's posted in fishing forums. It sounds like you can buy the JDM spool separately. I guess that's why it's called the Met 150 MGL B in the USDM. I pre-ordered the Zillion SV TW G (USDM) with brass gears as apposed to the Zillion SV TW 1000 (JDM). I'm pretty sure he used the JDM versions in the video.
@@findingthetrackway4875 jdm met is actually called a “100” size but it only holds 10-11 less yards then the 150 met so not much of a difference.
I bought the jdm metanium also and it cannot outcast my zillion, i have all 4 internal braking off and external braking on 2. And braking at 8 on the zillion is way too much braking. The settings on the zillion needs to be adjusted to get the distance out of it.

Looking forward to your Zillion review brother
Dude I had both reels same rod same jig the zillion cast further , way fewer birds nests. You can’t keep the zero adjuster at factory settings
You have to open it up further like you can actually hear clicking.
One thing I can tell you the Zillion doesn’t have that play in the handle that all Shimano have , and for sure a lot smoother.
I sent the Metanium DC back , it was making some kind of gritty noise on the retrieve .
I also sent the Zillion back , I found it to have
A lot of side to side play in the TW line guide.
I did re order one just didn’t get it yet.
I have heard a lot of good things about the Lew’s Pro Ti
If the next Zillion has the same problem , I will trade it for the Lew’s Reel.
I am waiting for this for so long😆😆🤩🤩
I'm surprised it wasn't closer.
with casting plugs SV reels can hold their own sometimes, but with real lures they still have way too much braking force.
shimano is the best. not surprise
Daiwa or shimano? I like them both.
What's the max casting weights for both reels? :)
Shimano always kick Daiwa ass in casting distance. The met is also cheaper, better looking and lighter than overpriced Zillion
Both have the same weight, and metanium is more expensive than zillion... at least in Japan
You got to be kidding
I had 30lb Daiwa j braid Grand , 1/2 oz jig with a Missile bait D Bomb with A chunk missing
But it has aperture that
Slow it down.
Brake control to 3
With some play in the tension knob
I was getting over 50 yards on the Zillion sv tw With the plug you were using it would have gone past the 60 yards
I've had both reels for a while now fishing inshore on the Texas coast. My impression, the zillion is a more practical application reel for a dy of fishing. During a normal day of fishing I may be casting cross, into, or with the wind. I may be throwing a paddle tail on a 1/8 jig head, 27 Mr, or a top water. The zillion will cast all that with little to zero adjustment needed and not have issues.
The metanium can cast as good or better, but change in condition or lure weight seem to require much more adjustment or attention to prevent issues.
Both are light, have very consistent drag and are smooth. How one feels in hand versus the other is a very subjective and personal thing for each person.
Both are great but I find myself using the Zillion on my go to rod and the metanium on a technique or weight specific rod to minimize any potential adjustments.
Do you think that means the metanium dc would be better for our texas coast because of the major changes with wind? I'm trying to decide which shimano reel to get
@@TexasSlamFishing I got rid of the metaniums because I didn't think it was good for our Texas coast. I had the metanium and shallow edition.
The Zillion throws the weight range that took using both the shallow and regular met. The metanium is a gorgeous, very refined, high performance reel. It's like a Ferrari, I'm more of a truck guy.
I did keep my Curado 150mgl. It is an awesome reel. The metanium barely out casts it in perfect conditions. The Alderberan is the other shimano I still use.
I wade and kayak. I don't need tons of line. A small light reel works just fine. I have a Sarge Freebird rod that I use either an Alderberan or Custom Lite on. Whole setup is less than 8oz and does it all. Don't sleep on the Curado 150mgl it can do it all too. It just weights a little more.
@Rainbo Sprinkles cool I have the Lew's custom lite, maybe I'll just stick with that, it's just a little annoying getting backlashes while kayak fishing in a heavy wind. I make sure I'm not casting directly into the wind and I thought the dc might solve that problem
@@TexasSlamFishing it won't. You can tighten down the spool tension knobs or kick up your brakes and get the same results as the IDC5 on the W setting. Keep in mind the Scorpion DC has the same IDC5 chip in in that the Metanium DC has... and it's less than 200 dollars on digitaka. Maybe that would be an option to see if you at least like the DC or it is capable of doing what you want.
This winter with our strong winds and constantly changing direction Ive leaned heavily on my zillion and Custom Lite. They've made it very easy when I switch from a Kwiggler ball tail on a 16th to a Corky.
I've owned Old 18, Laguna, and waterloo rods fpr a good while. I finally jumped in on a Sarge rod. It's not magic, but it's made as big of a difference as a new reel. I may pick up a Waterloo carbon mag some day, but I'll have a very hard time putting down a Sarge or Laguna ever again.
@Rainbo Sprinkles yes I can tell I'm starting to look at rods now and I'm sure it's because I'm wanting to upgrade my reel
I’ve never had my brakes on 8 on my zillion 21 honestly. I must set up my reel differently than you. Mine stays between 4-6 most of the time. I think maybe you could have gotten more out of the daiwa. I can’t speak for the Shimano and I don’t own one. But I know my daiwa never sees lvl 8 brakes
Your correct, I use 5 and my zillion cast really far. He always leans towards Shimano so you need to filter some things on here.
Daiwa Zillion for me :P
Daiwa only for me. Everyone else can have Shimano.
What this test is about ? Metanium/aldebaran breaks are not stable and reaching long distance is always "close to overrun".
Daiwa steez/zillion breaks are stable in different weather/wind conditions and you don't need to control the spool at all.
8 ? I use 3-4 on steez and all my friends too.
The distance could be different as author is used to shimano breaking system.
I'd like see the reel being tuned by a person who uses Daiwa steez/zillion and make the comparison and ideally with different lures.

I know it's been awhile, but having received both these reels in USDM versions, I have to point out that the USDM Zillion includes instructions on adjusting the Zero Adjuster. It's explained that the zero adj. is not a one-n-done from the factory. It's explained that It's designed as a means to keep from bumping the spool tension while in use. As far as which is my favorite, the jury's still out.
Messing with the spool tension would not have changed the outcome
How does this palm in comparison to the bantam mgl, or the curado 70? The one thing I’ve never liked about daiwa is how wide they feel, like little fat bubbles. This one looks pretty compact and might be the reel that gets me to switch over from Shimano.

@@THEREELTEST From what I've hear many people outcasts their metaniums with their zillions on a lower setting, with a real lure. I just got my zillion and my buddy got the metanium, I will have to try myself to be sure. But with the right tumb control and the zero adjuster set to your own preference I'm sure it will cast closer to the metanium than this test.
Lmao “bootytrain” this weirdo’s online handle has been kicked off every fishing forum online😂
did you use the JDM mentanium
I’m wondering if there’ll be a difference in casting distance between Metanium 20 JDM vs US? Will the US Metanium beat the new Zillion?
100%
Your casting form is terrible also turn your wrist after you cast so the reel is sideways in your hand, it lets the spool spin more evenly
you are mad... also you are mad... oh yeah, you're mad! lol
I appreciate What you are doing. Why would you lose half of the Day to do this test plus Another half to get this movie cut and put together So we can watch it. You could have gone fishing searching for your Sally or other river girl at the same Time and have much more fun. Greatly appreciated your service to us Anglers who is into purchase Best choise reel. Thanks.
Ive been fishing here and there, caught a couple of decent bass. If you see me take like a long break from posting, its usually because Im fishing without the go pro :)
I just bought a mint condition in the box 2016 Metanium MGL for $210 shipped from Japan. Im excitied, Ive never fished a $400 class reel before. It might not be the latest and greatest but it was half the price and youve had nothing but good things to say about this reel.
I bet the gears will feel buzzy so check out a brass gear kit. I did that with mine and I think it feels better than my 2020 Metanium.
@@hunterbull7804 my new Curado MGL is a little buzzy too. Aluminum gears?
that reel will still eat up 98% of the reels out today
@@THEREELTEST I'm lucky I got it for this price, it doesn't have a scratch on it, it's in the bubble wrap. It has line on it but it wasn't fished very much. With the new one coming out I'm going to look for these reels. My limit is around $200 for reels. If I can get these for that price I'm going to take it over any $200 reel new on the market
@@hunterbull7804 the reel arrived today it's in perfect condition not a scratch on it. It does feel a bit buzzy but it's still smooth. Has the same buzz as most of my shimano reels. I'm going to run the stock gears until I have an issue. I service my reels regularly and the number one issue with micro module is dirt getting in the gears. Just a little bit can cause slipping. This real looks like someone put line on it, casted a few times and never used it again.
Have you tried swapping the zillion spool into the steez?
JDM Met 20 for $300 is the best value in any baitcast, nothing compares

Good video thanks
Hey I’m getting either the Metanium DC or the 2020 Metanium MGL what are u thinking I should get ? Or thoughts on it
Get the Zillion
Was that the jdm met you were using?
