    depending on life stage, if no responsibility prolly 3.5-4k.. if prep for bto/resale prolly 5k and above as we all know housing aint that much affordable as we still gotta take loan

    Depending on stage of life, that is really the key, and if you stay with parents, any other liabilities, what you deemed is necessary to you personally, to qualify as comfortable. The latter determines how much you need, even for peers at the same stage of life.

    CPF does take up quite abit if your basic salary not high. So people need to take this as consideration when asking for starting salary. Earn 5k mean your cash on hand is only 4K.

      When you want to have resources for ur kids. Retire your parents. Be almost debt free. Can retire early and don have to depend on kids for allowance. Travel 4 times a year. Thn above 10k will become reasonable. Its just different perspectives

      family of 4 - rent 6k, school for 2 kids 6k+, groceries 2k, entertainment and clothes 2k, savings 3k = 19k, do you have any more questions? expat life is harder than Singaporean life

    • @FlamingWind
      @FlamingWind 4 місяці тому +4

      @@LangLang5689 I believe if you choose to rent somewhere cheaper, you could probably save another $1-2K. This is your choice to stay somewhere that is more upmarket. There are cheaper condos to rent elsewhere.
      Also, am not too sure what kind of entertainment and clothes that cost $2k every month which I believe you can reduce this down to $1-1.5K.
      There you go, you probably have extra cashflow of few thousands more every month.
      Even if you don’t adjust your lifestyle, having $3K of savings every month in Singapore is quite decent. That is if you use a larger portion of this money to invest in ETFs.

      they say comfortable though, so its quite vague cause different people needs different standards to feel comfortable. If you grew up in landed property, eating restaurants everyday and going europe once or twice a year, you are not going to be comfortable with $5k. But if someone who grew up in a 1 room flat, eating rice sauce everyday, then $5k would be insanely comfortable

      If 4-5k isn't enough for you to live comfortably, the problem definitely lies with you. 100% you made bad financial decisions most of the time, either that or we have very different definitions of "comfortably".

    • @Resolute.j
      @Resolute.j 11 місяців тому

      @@lawlacast7107 probably the latter. The definition of "Comfortable" to me is being able to afford a steady spending and sudden expenditures during emergencies. Eg: Hospitalization
      This is all while owning a HDB flat and paying off the loans taken while still having a net positive on CPF OA savings contributed per month.

    I think fundamentally, it's the wrong mindset to begin with. You can't think in terms of "depending on current life stage", because the future is going to come whether you like it or not; the same responsibilities are going to enter your life. So a comfortable salary should already account for the amount you want to set aside for savings and investments so that these money have the time horizon to grow and multiply by the time you need them for e.g. wedding, house.

If you want to chip into the house hold maybe around $400? or give that money to the parents (filial piety). Then save for the future (marriage and family). Combine income should be at least 5k? Depending on what type of house you want. And your CPF helps Alot.

    5k will still struggle as a single person. There will be hardly any savings left. Upwards of 6k will allow room for breathing.

      Let's see., take home pay of 4k monthly. In comparison to the extra 800 for 6k (4.8k). 800 not a lot leh lol. 16% of 5k

      depends if live with parents or not tbh, that one already save like $600-$1k in rent. Spending probably able to get by with $1k per month, so left $3k for leisure and savings is more than enough
