This was very good and easy to make. I added to the recipe onions, mushrooms and red wine. I cooked these in the same pan after cooking the hamburger steaks, prior to making the gravy. Once cooked, I put over the steaks using a slotted spoon to leave the liquid in the pan to make the gravy. I put in a casserole dish and baked in 350 oven several hours later for dinner. I cooked rice rather than making mashed potatoes. Thank you Catherine for this awesome recipe.

My mom made fresh green beans with bacon and onions for years as a side dish. If she wanted to make it a meal, she'd put in more bacon and add cut up potatoes. We still make it every year with fresh beans from the farmer's market. Yum!

Catherine it looks great. When I use can veggies I drain them and rinse them off to get rid of the metallic taste. When it comes to my green beans I use a little bit of what's called ham base. Makes a big difference in taste. Have a great day!
Love you dinners!!! With your green beans try using beef bullion, minced onion, black pepper, and some Crisco oil. Amounts will depend on your amount if green beans. These taste close to fresh green beans as I have found. Beef bouillon is much more flavorful than chicken.

You cook great family recipes enjoyed by all. Tomorrow I’m making a German cabbage pie with coarse ground steak, like chili Meat. New recipe but it’ll be good. I’m sure the beans are delicious. My favorite recipe for beans follows. I use canned green beans but you can use butter beans as well. I prefer green beans. Heat small amount of bacon grease. Add flour enough so it will slightly coat beans. Cook flour to remove raw taste. Season with salt pepper garlic powder and/or onion powder. Drain beans and toss to warm in bacon grease flour coating until heated through. Delicious. We grew up with our beans cooked this way. Don’t use too much grease. You can also add a bit of crumbled bacon. I just don’t. You can also make a similar coating with butter flour seasoning and Parmesan cheese. Try it. You’ll like it. Mom was Polish. Dad was Italian. I tend to cook Polish but also Italian to a lesser degree.
I use Allen canned green beans. First brown some bacon, add the green beans, some chicken broth, some brown sugar, garlic powder, pepper and some red pepper flakes. Cook down. So good and doesn’t taste like canned green beans.
You brought up my childhood memories eating this sometime at my great-grandma house on Sunday lunch after church. She called it buffalo stake with homemade white grave that turn tan color. It was best ! I sure do miss her.

I don't know if you have vegemite or marmite over there, but some of that stirred through that gravy would be amazing, also. Would give it a darker, richer flavour. Great recipe as always. :)

It was too thick so I added some water. That’s what my grandmother used to do. Btw I am not a good cook. I really struggle in the kitchen but this looks so good I had to give it a try.
