  • The effectiveness of Glucosamine is widely debated. Dr. Cibere, Rheumatologist and Research Scientist at the Arthritis Research Centre of Canada (ARC), illustrates why Glucosamine Sulfate is not as effective at relieving pain from knee osteoarthritis as hoped and provides recommendations to manage knee osteoarthritis.

Hogwash! Taking Glucosamine sulfate daily saved me from having to have my arthritic great toe amputated after a podiatrist botched a surgery on my foot 30 years ago. I personally take 1,500 mg of Glucosamine Sulfate daily along with Boswellia.
Thank God for quality Glucosamine Sulfate!!!

I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis last month and was on pain medications all day. Once I learned about glucosamine, I started taking it and in as little as two days the pain reduced dramatically and I am walking better day by day.

You didn't mention what type of glucosamine was used in the study as the old type is less effective then the newer glucosamine sulphate and you also didn't mention how much each individual took each day. The recommended amount for effectiveness is1500mg each day from my own research over the internet.
Please be through in your video as people generally look up these videos when they start experiencing symptoms associated with osteoarthritis.

Some very good studies were made that suggests the form of glucosamine taken makes the difference. It has been known for years that glucosamine sulfate is the only useful form of glucosamine. Despite that, I still see a lot of research using glucosamine chloride.
What form of glucosamine was used in this study ?
The other thing is that since glucosamine's mode of action is not primarily through its anti-inflamatory action, 6 months is probably not long enough.
A study would have to run for at least a couple of years.

Why would you expect people who stopped using glucosamine to flair after taking them off?
Without studying the reason the cartilage was damaged in the first place, you won't be able to compare against changes in activity (for example) after the cartilage has been repaired.
The ability to work and exercise after the pain is gone may be enough to maintain healthier cartilage. Mightn't such activity help - for example to aid in getting nutrients to the cartilage?
Would a good study just ask the question: Does glucosamine help repair damaged cartilage? or not?

Science aside, glucosamine sulfate 500mg three times a day has provided me a 57 year old male with both pain and swelling relief. This in turn has allowed a return to exercise and improvement of range of motion and mobility.

Had osteoarthritis on and off for several years now. It'd flare up and go after maybe several weeks or months. But for over a month ago it got worse and could barely handle the pain. I tried Diclofenac sodium 1% gel , arthritis strength Tylenol and knee brace. Didn't help much. Now I was skeptical somewhat of supplements since so many are out there for Soo many things. A few weeks ago finally tried glucosamine chondroitin pills chloride form. Walgreens specifically. Heard that these types of supplements help some but not others. Within a week helped a lot with the pain. Sometimes have momentary flare-ups but overall much better. My friend who's even longer time suffers from four different types of arthritis recommend osteo Bi-Flex triple strength turmeric pills. Both are chloride form. I might try sulfate one day see if that is even better.

im allergic to shellfish and i take glucosamine sulfate ,and it helps me quite a bit - first off i cant take more than 1 pill at a time or my allergy
starts ,i take a half a pill every 4 hours - i feel it in my body -mostly in the back of my head the medulla oblongata is throbbing and i guess thats it working on my brain too ...
it works for me . i have VEGAN glucosamine and its not as strong and not as fast as the regular ones i take but its a option if your allergic to it. it comes from corn -which might be good or bad, depending on your take on corn.

I could not stand the pain in my feet from standing 12 hour days at work. Started taking joint soother from V. W. The pain stopped. Ran out was waiting for sale. Within a week started having pain again. Went and paid full price for them. Also made my fingers stop hurting. You must have tested the wrong type. I swear by this stuff.

I did glucosamine for years in my 40's, both knees wrecked in my early 20's from skiing. Your plant food contains oxalates (Google "the dangers of oxalates) and these crystals get into your joints and act just like shards of glass. You need the fatty acids from meat to heal the joints and tissues. I was on methotrexate for my RA and gout, and another autoimmune disease. After 1 year I switched to keto and got off Prednisone, another year and I discovered the dangers of oxalates and ate just red meat and was off methotrexate in 30 days. That was over 3 years ago, no symptoms of flares since. I feel better now at 67 than I did at 47.

"Results from a 2013 clinical trial compared two Ayurvedic formulations of plant extracts against the natural product glucosamine sulfate and the drug celecoxib in 440 people with knee osteoarthritis. All four products provided similar reductions in pain and improvements in function".

Even though the title says glucosamine sulfate, you didn't mention that is what was used. If it was glucosamine hydrochloride, then of course it didn't work because that form is not well absorbed. But also, this study is very poorly designed and clearly not long enough. Joints don't have a blood supply so you need to follow people for at least 1-2 years to see results, not 6 months.
