"HEXplore It is a hero building adventure board game. Enter a realm teeming with fantasy creatures, heroes and villains.
Select your hero by combining two character options: your Role and Race. Your Role is your profession and your Race is your heritage and species. This combination drives your Hero's strengths, weaknesses and defines their special abilities. You'll use dry erase markers to keep track of your hero's strength.
Travel across the map earning power ups by completing quests and battling opponents of several different types. Move carefully to avoid multiple dangers and travel from city to city, visiting shrines and ruins along the way.
Gain power quickly, for the Dead King also moves... He takes away your cities as you play the game. For each city he destroys, he gains more power.
The object of HEXplore It is to power up your heroes as quickly as possible, to eventually defeat the Dead King himself. The game is won if you confront and defeat him, bringing light back to the Valley."

Hey Everyone,
One correction: 1:03:05 The Black Market "can" appear after defeating a boss. All players roll a d10 with at least one player rolling the number of defeated bosses or less. So if you've beaten one boss, at least one player has to roll a hex. If two bosses, then you have to roll a 2 or a hex, etc etc. It doesn't automatically appear just from beating a boss.
Big thanks to John Titor for pointing this out!
Cheers!
Still helpful six years later!
Woohoo! That’s amazing. 🤩
What an AWESOME walk through. Thanks Adam!
It was fun to make! Having fun with the game at the moment. About to release the first part of the playthrough. Feel free to jump in and add corrections if you spot any during the playthrough! Cheers :)
OH yeah!!! Was waiting for that! Thanks :D
No problem DP! Hope it helps you out. Now onto the playthrough ;D
Okay you got me, just ordered VotDK 2nd edition! Looking forward to ”rolling solo” next weekend ;)
Thanks for your wonderful channel and fantastic playthroughs!
Oooo! Have a blast Marcus!
Been waiting for this one. Can't wait to watch it!👍👍
Filming is done for Part #1 and now onto the editing tomorrow ;D
Imagine we could clone Adam Smith in mini form and include one in every game box. We would rid ourselves of reading (terrible) rulebooks and jump right into the frail with our very own tutor. I think I stop now, before I spin this down even weirder paths.
Great explanations as usual and an other top video. Thank you for all the effort. As you see, even years later they are a treasure.
Thanks so much for the kind words! It’s awesome knowing the videos (even ones made years ago) still hold up and help people get to the fun of the game that much quicker. All the best on your adventures and I’ll see you around here! 😄
@@RollingSolo You have a massive catalog of videos going back a long time, all of them tremendously well made, informative and they all hold up. Hell, I learned through you about the existence of games I haven't seen anyone else showcasing or talking about. So you and your channel are in the top 3 of my all times best boardgame creators.
A quick clarification on the Black Market. It appears when after defeating a boss, all players roll a d10 with at least one player rolling the number of defeated bosses or less. So if you've beaten one boss, at least one player has to roll a hex. If two bosses, then you have to roll a 2 or a hex, etc etc. It doesn't automatically appear just from beating a boss.
Great point John and you’re correct. I will be covering this in Part #1 of the playthrough as this comes up actually. Thanks for the feedback! :)
I have no doubts ill be watching this again when I finally get my hands on it lol
Sounds like a plan. Hope it helps you get a better understanding of how the game plays! See you in the playthrough CoD! :)
Looking forward to it, and yes it definitely did.
Awesome! Mission accomplished!
Can't remember exactly what it says in the rulebook about the Dead King appearing on the board, but I think after the third try he automatcially just comes out...
Hey Glen, the rulebook states that each game turn you increment the die by one until he arrives. So his odds increase of showing up each round. But he doesn’t arrive on the third round as a rule. Hope this helps!
Sorry don’t know if it’s a dumb question, trying to learn the game, moving cautiously you read move 1 hex, but in the video you moved 2, so I am a bit confused...
Oh, after rewatch that little bit, something to do with “normal rate”
Nothing is a dumb question! Lots to take in with board games. :)
What’s the point of the different terrain if they are all one move each? It doesn’t seem to have any in game impact?
Hey! It's not top of mind but I do believe there are impacts on the events and scenarios that can occur on particular terrain spaces only. Cheers!
One thought...if a character during battle dies, would it be able to use an ability like Shifter since, well, at that moment it is dead?
Yes. At 59:24 you can see that the Angelborn race is able to save themselves or an ally from death. So this ability could be triggered even after the character is dead to revive them. In the case of the Shifter, because it can use an ally ability as is, the Summoner could save herself if killed.
It states in the rulebook on pages 8 and 34 (hope those are the correct pages); "Each race has a unique special ability which consumes either Health or Energy to use. These abilities are usable at any time and do not disrupt game turns or combat rounds. Heroes may use their Racial ability during any phase of combat without interrupting their action."
Hope this helps! :)
