"HEXplore It® is a hero building adventure board game. Enter a realm teeming with fantasy creatures, heroes and villains.
Select your hero by combining two character options: your Role and Race. Your Role is your profession and your Race is your heritage and species. This combination drives your Hero's strengths, weaknesses and defines their special abilities. You'll use dry erase markers to keep track of your hero's strength.
Travel across the map earning power ups by completing quests and battling opponents of several different types. Move carefully to avoid multiple dangers and travel from city to city, visiting shrines and ruins along the way.
Gain power quickly, for the Dead King also moves... He takes away your cities as you play the game. For each city he destroys, he gains more power.
The object of HEXplore It is to power up your heroes as quickly as possible, to eventually defeat the Dead King himself. The game is won if you confront and defeat him, bringing light back to the Valley."

One correction: The dead king token is not replaced by the mini. The token represents the dead kings target location. We'll talk about this more in the Rules Overview video!

Rolling Solo lol, I don’t put much stock in my luck. It’s more often bad than good. Makes gaming quite an adventure! As long as the games go to good homes I’ll be happy!

When putting down markers for quests, the A or C tile icon on the card also shows you the hex position of the quest on that tile.
Thanks for the feedback Bill! If it appeared like I guessed where the quest markers go, my mistake. I was using the hex on the quest cards to determine the quest marker locations. See you in the next one! :)

Hello Adam, thank you for the ever more generous giveaways!
I have one suggestion that I'm sure you've considered already, but I'd like to bring it up nonetheless. I think it would be a tremendous addition to your content if after every "first" playthrough you could take some minutes to give an honest opinion about the game you've just played, however formal or informal you'd like the "review" to be. Particularly on newer releases as it was the case of City of Kings, it would have been great to know how you felt about the general flow of the game.

You bet Gil! I'm working on something in the future in regards to this. I'm not into doing 'reviews' as every review imo is biased for a number of different reasons but I woudn't mind breaking down a games pros and cons. So I'm looking into it to see whether it's doable. Thanks for letting me know your interest in it!
The one thing I noticed is that they should have re-printed where the circumstance deck goes facing toward the bottom of the table on the other side of those pieces. That way you could either face the information towards the opposite side of the table and when flipped playing solo they are facing you. Just a thought.
Game seems a little complex. I wonder how it stacks against Mage Knight.

@@RollingSolo since you have experience in both games do you find similarities between Mage Knight and Hexplore? Which would you recommend to someone on the fence about both games? Which do you find more difficult to learn?
That’s a good question. I think it took longer to get Mage Knight down. As the combat system has quite a bit going on and when learning you’ll be reference icons quite a bit. HEXplore It also will have you referencing the rulebook to ensure you’re playing correctly but I found it easier to pickup. With experience Mage Knight has a tighter system. If I had to pick I’d lean towards Mage Knight based on it being one of the first solo games I learned. Neither is a bad choice, HEX is great too!
I am going to start playing this game with volume 2 starting tomorrow as a campaign style game with my own house rules.

Dead King doesn’t start on the map
Quest locations on the cards...there’s actually a reference dot inside the tile shape icon showing exactly where on that tile the hex is located
That’s correct! The Dead King is awaiting his moment to show up. Each quest card has a hex which I used to match up the quest token with as well. My mistake there was using the word 'guess' because I actually knew based on the positioning of the cave on the hex. Thanks for watching Doc! :)

Hey AF! Basically they’re two different volumes in one game world. They follow a similar game system but are two stand alone games. Based on the KS, they can be merged apparently. I’d suggest checking on the KS page to stay up to date! Cheers!
The story is as strong as you want it to be. It’s enough for a board game but if you’re looking for RPG, it allows you to throw in your own take on the world. Using your imagination for example.
